Nintendo yesterday announced the classic 1999 Nintendo 64 release Pokémon Snap would be coming to the Switch Online Expansion Pack service. Apart from Custom Robo and its sequel, this was the only remaining game scheduled to be released in the original batch of teased games. From here on out, we're not entirely sure what's on the way.
Ahead of Snap's release on June 24th, we've decided to round up a series of screenshots from Nintendo's Japanese website, to show you exactly what the game looks like running on the Switch hardware. Pokémon Snap was previously released digitally on the Wii Shop in 2007 and the Wii U eShop in 2016.
So, without further ado, here's the full round up of direct screenshots:

It looked too outdated for me lol.
I keep sticking on New Pokemon Snap for better graphics and that handsome Professor Mirror (Still haven't bought the game yet 😅)
Yup, that sure is Pokémon Snap alright.
Hmm now that this wraps up the initially announced games it leaves a convenient gap which could be filled during a direct, say a few days after release...?
I was sceptical a direct would happen so late but this gives me a little hope
It looks like they've opted to keep the blocky backgrounds and make the mons a lot sharper. Looks really nice 👌
Playing through this as a kid, trying to solve the puzzles without any internet help was a blast. Looking forward to playing it again.
It looks like an N64 game. Who would'a thunk it?
Will stick with my N64 version for now but if they add Pokèmon Stadium 1 and 2 then I'll upgrade immediately without hesitation. I have those games on N64 too and like Pokèmon Snap I've always wanted to play them on the move.
Really hoping this solidifies the nintendo direct because there are no more n64 games coming after this one, so why not just show a trailer of what they've got planned for the next couple of months, plus the new fire emblem was leaked. Just please let smash be the next n64 game
They really need to add the option to either stretch the image to fullscreen or remove the dotted background on the Nintendo 64 application.
I still don't get why three is no Donkey Kong 64. Among the "doable" that's the big miss for me.
@RCGamer If my understanding is correct, if they let Donkey Kong 64 run on the NSO N64 emulator, it would probably corrupt the fabric of life as we know it!
Hello in-game pokemon evolutions! That was the part I was missing the most in New Pokemon Snap
@PineappleLake : As in, you wanted to experience evolution occurring "in the wild", as it were?
Because there are plenty of Pokémon in New Pokémon Snap whose evolutionary families are not present in their entirety.
And I didn't expect to spot Captain Keen on this safari!
@Silly_G Indeed, best one was Slowpoke interacting with Shellder turning into Slowbro.
That's Commander Keen for you
@Anti-Matter Don't let the dated graphics stop you from playing the original Pokémon snap, it's still a pretty good game
@RCGamer I know - I mean there's already some absolutely terrible, borderline unplayable garbage on the NES and SNES apps so clearly it's not just being ruled out due to reasons of quality...
Playing this years ago was a blast. I hope it's as fun as I remember it being.
...couldn't I just go on Google images years ago to see for myself? Cute that this is pretending to be some deep dive exclusive 😂
@Anti-Matter what a silly comment. Literally every game on the n64 looks dated...because they are
@RCGamer there's a ton of games that should be on there by now. This drip drip release strategy is insulting and the main reason I'm not subbed yet.
@PineappleLake Yes! That and the whole mystery landscape puzzle were the parts I was missing in New Snap. My favorite evolution was bonking charmeleon into the lava pit to get charizard. I love New Snap, but it's more of a passive safari. Things feel more interactive in Snap 64.
As someone who's never played the original, I'm going to try and avoid as many screenshots/videos as I can since a lot of the magic of Snap from what I've heard is seeing Pokemon do wild, unexpected things. Super excited though, cannot stress that enough.
@RubyCarbuncle just a heads up, there are 3 pokemon stadiums on N64. I don't know how they would name the first one tho. Maybe stadium zero, or maybe they keep it japan only.
@abdias Ahh yes you're quite right I always forget about that. It wasn't called Pokémon Stadium 3 but I know exactly what you're talking about though.
Havent been able to emulate this for some reason so looking forward to this. I remember beating the whole game on my birthday in 2000 with a bunch of friends and taking a pic of mew, good times
Nintendo direct confirmed, n64 games looking like n64 games confirmed
🤗 news
@DJP- looks inconsistent as hell
@Anti-Matter Too bad some people only care about graphics, this game is actually really fun and has a lot going for it.
I would argue that this game is in some ways more fun than New Pokémon Snap.
For instance you can cause Pokémon to evolve. And there are some interesting puzzle like challenges.
Both games are cool, but I think I am more likely to replay the original
@DaniPooo
Well, I didn't grow up by N64 games so I will not invest for outdated N64 games.
I will pick the Switch version for better graphic since I have never played Pokemon Snap before.
@Anti-Matter I really don’t understand how you are thinking. I have been exploring many franchises that are older than the games I grew up with. A good game is still good and worth checking out regardless of how the graphics look.
And if you are already paying for the Nintendo subscription you really have no reason not to check it out as you get the game with the membership
@DaniPooo
Well, different peoples have different life experiences.
I didn't grow up by N64 games, instead I grew up by PS1 games during my teenhood.
I personally have no interest with N64 games after comparing with PS1 games and I don't think I want to invest in N64 games even just for curiosity.
Oh, I don't play old Nintendo games from subscription, I have no interest in renting the old games.
I just only subscribe $20 for able using Online play for ACNH, ARMS and other Switch games.
Also, do I have to play Pokemon Snap N64 version if I have no interest at all with the game ?
@Anti-Matter
It’s ok if you don’t wanna pay to play a game.
I get that.
What I don’t get and certainly can’t stand behind is the disregard for any game that is a certain age or was release for a certain console.
I think that is very narrow minded..
Some of the best games ever are even older, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy VI, Zelda - A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Street Fighter 2 and the list goes on.
Oh and the N64 was way more powerful than the PS1, it just had a terribly limited storage capacity on the cartridges which held it back.
I miss the music in this game so much. Valley is one of my favorite songs in the entire Pokemon series. My biggest disappointment with New Pokemon Snap was the music. Something just isn't right about New Snap's music. The original soundtrack was like, bouncy and fun. New Snap is maybe more technically deep music, but it feels waaaay more generic.
@DaniPooo
Just because I don't have interest with N64 games, it doesn't mean I was narrow minded.
Every peoples have their own interest that built naturally from their life experiences.
I have seen the games library of N64 from internet and I didn't think I want to invest with N64 to see their games library were collectively weaker than PS1 games.
I don't play Zelda, Donkey Kong, F-Zero, Metroid, Banjo, etc as I don't have interest at all with those games, but I grew up by Dance Dance Revolution, FF VIII, FF IX, Bishi Bashi, Punky Skunk, Pepsiman, Magical Drop 3, etc from PS1 games that shaped my teenhood.
I personally choose New Pokemon Snap even I don't have the game yet than choosing Pokemon Snap N64 version as I don't have interest with N64 games due to looked outdated and I prefer better looking graphic games as I can invest with the games I have never played before. It was my personal choice.
Also, I have a choice to determine which video games I want to give investment judging from their games library.
The memories with this game. I remember when I used to mess around with the Pester Balls and not really take pictures. Fun times.
