Those evergreen Nintendo games just keep on selling, and Nice to see the Pokemon remakes doing some decent business as well. and Animal crossing once again underlining why it's the best in the series so far, of course there will be people saying the same old things, sales do not equal quality of satisfaction, whilst totally ignoring it does not mean anything either way, outside of one's own personal feelings on the matter.
But seriously good job Nintendo.
@johnvboy We're just going to ignore the previous screaming into the void? OK.
The Switch's successor comes along and inspired by GTAV, Nintendo announces "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Definitive Edition: Expanded & Enhanced" as a launch window game.
So Splatoon 2 is out of the top 10. Makes sense since there's a new one on the horizon.
But Nintendo has a great attach rate. Well done.
@Fizza,
Lost internet connection at the vital moment of my edit, but all is well now, having my broadband fibre installed today with 900Mb speeds.
@johnvboy That's a relief, I was wondering why all I saw was AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Sales do not always equal a quality product. Remember that people.
@Fizza,
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA you noticed that did you, my caps lock was stuck.
@SeantheDon29,
Yes and people always buy poor quality rubbish products, so basically anything that's successful can be torn down this way.
@Grumblevolcano Mario Kart 8 : Smog of the Speedway with breath of the wild content now with Guardians.
Great figures. Just a minor note: it says "As of December 31, 2021" on the source website, not as of February 2022
sad that 14 million would rather get a half ass remaster than a new game
@johnvboy Mhm. Pokemon Sword&Shield being a prime example. I think it's because people fail to realize that most of these sales are made from fans who will buy anything related to the IP rather than because it's a quality product. That's just my opinion though.
BDSP will easily become the best selling remakes in the franchise (only ORAS and Let's Go are ahead of it currently) and may very well surpass the original Diamond and Pearl.
Impressive.
@SeantheDon29,
The mass majority of gamers just buy games they like, and purchase things/games based on what they contain rather than what's missing, we as core hobby gamers dissect things too much, and feel if we do not personally like something, how can others not have similar issues.
Personally have enjoyed every Pokemon game on the Switch and had great fun with em, they all have some rough edges but overall they are all pretty good imho.
103 million and a list of launch title games………come on Nintendo let’s get some new titles this year!
@KBuckley27
I mean, that isn't true is it?
It's far from a half arsed one too but clearly you never had any intention of buying it and that is fine.
More to the point, Legends Arc likely wouldn't have even had a figure for this with it only releasing last Friday. So your point falls on deaf ears.
Fun fact: Total 1st party Nintendo Switch software sales have reached ~400 million.
@SeantheDon29
It wasn't always the case of fan will buy the games regardless of their quality.
Some peoples who bought the game didn't even know or even bothering the trivial things inside certain games when some peoples really vocal about those trivial things as the flaws and if somebody bought those games whether they know the flaws or not, the naysayer will call them a blind fan.
They are not always a fan of certain games and we don't need to be a fan of something to buy and play the games.
If I buy and play Pokemon Sword / Shield with "bad" quality from point of view of fanatic diehard Pokemon fans, I mean do I really have to concern from other people's opinion to enjoy my game purchase ?
Maybe the games are bad by those peoples but it was not a bad game for me because I am not a huge fan of Pokemon, I have little knowledge about Pokemon but I still have some interest to play Pokemon games casually so if I thought the game was good enough then it was a good purchase for me. It doesn't mean I am a mindless people who just only buy crappy products from Nintendo without thinking.
Every peoples have different perception about what is good and what is bad for them.
@Damo These numbers are as of Decrmber 31st 2021, not as of today. It's their quarterly report.
@SeantheDon29 If its sales were from the same players every time Sw/Sh wouldn't be the 1st entry since 2000 to sell over 20million copies.
They needed to convince 7 million non-fans to buy Sword/Shield over Sun/Moon for it to reach 24million. Which would be pretty hard to do if it wasn't a quality product.
Your argument falls apart when the series sales are rising.
@Dr_Lugae It’s a lot more complicated than that. Pokémon Go has increased brand recognition to greater than it was in the GBA and DS eras, and the Switch has a much larger install base than the 3DS, as well as having a healthier ecosystem than pretty much any previous Nintendo handheld. These will have all contributed to higher sales. Almost all 1st party Switch games are among the best performing in their series, regardless of quality. The increased sales have less to do with the quality of the games and more to do with the system they’re on, as more users + more hype = more people willing to try new series they know little about.
@BTB20 Well spotted - I've amended the piece. Apologies!
A lot more people bought Pokemon BDSP and Mario Kart 8 than I thought, wow.
Incredible. It prints money
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe expanding its dominance. Oh, and Pokémon BD and SP should be on spot 8, they've made 13.97 million copies sold compared to Let's Go Pikachu and Ever that sold 13.83 million.
@Grumblevolcano Nintendo should definitely announce the next Mario Kart iteration that way in a trailer, then list Mario Kart 9 in a small font just to troll people.
Perhaps Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also just "in the middle of its life cycle."
@Thomystic,
Just imagine that, who knows how may copies it would sell.
I honestly want to get Ring Fit sometime this year. Maybe during christmas cause right now my sites are set on Sunbreak when it comes out and I may get Monster Hunter Stories early this year.
I have a feeling Legends will break into this list by the next update.
@Dr_Lugae Sword and Shield already outsold Gold and Silver which had roughly 23 million. never did i think we have potential for sword and shield to hit the 30 millions of red and blue or come close.
@Edu23XWiiU Dude, Let's Go sold 14.33 million, it says it right there.
@HeeHo
legends might be number 8 or 9 on the next top 10 update
Most of the games only went up by 1 million, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe went up by 5 million. Crazy.
@BTB20 Ugh, I think I watched the previous sales number hehehe.
It's so nice to see a platform that doesn't have a top 10 filled with turds like CoD, FIFA, etc. I just wish game freak used some of that money to develop modern Pokémon games.
