While many fans are avoiding Pokémon Legends: Arceus spoilers like the plague due to the game leaking online recently, one thing that's already been confirmed by screenshots and trailers is the fact that the monsters in the game will be rendered in different sizes.
That means you could find yourself being towered over by a Pokémon – and that's a situation that has left some fans feeling a little uncomfortable.
Please be aware that the following tweets could potentially contain spoilers!

I like how you showed Lopunny and Gardevoir…
It's better than the alternative of when Wailord was half the size of the trainer.
Everyone bloody complained to death about Pokemon being too small in SwSh and BDSP and now that they're big, they don't like it. Irony is sweet. (I haven't seen the images for myself so I don't know whether or not this is a legitimate criticism, I just think it's funny regardless)
Remember in Pokemon Let's Go the monsters have different size that being told during encounter?
Now, you will see the difference between tiny size of Pikachu and jumbo size of Pikachu in Legend of Archeus.
There's been a big emphasis on size this generation, hasn't there?
From Dyna-maxing in Sword and Shield, to shrinking down in New Pokémon Snap.
Im hyped and optimistic that the positive reinforcement will show Gamefreak and TPCI the value of being more detail-oriented with their games.
Rule 34 has no exceptions.
I mean yes Pokémon come in different sizes, that Gardevoir is pretty realistic.
But then I see that Lopunny... they supposed to be around 1.3m, that one in the screenshot looks twice that size...
@RupeeClock Yep, but this is the first time it's been shown visually (dyna-maxing doesn't really count as it's only a temp change).
@Fizza As the old saying goes, "You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time."
Some people are just, simply put, never happy with anything, and try to find joy in ruining things for others.
This is going to make for funny meme shots.
What are people talking about? We just had a Pokemon game where everyone Gigantamaxed?
I guess it will make Resident Evil fans chuffed
@MysteryCupofJoe That was a temp transformation, though. In Legends, the Pokemon have different 'normal' sizes.
I love it. Give me a female small Pikachu, I shall bestow the name of Mini Mouse.
@danemord The internet is also partially to blame, Danemord. A character will be run through at whim every time something new comes to its attention.
I... can have... a giant Togepi?
Forget shiny hunting, I’m going to hunt me some oversized cuties.
I love how people have already run to defend the huge size variation trying to justify it with "just like in real life" argument.
@VanishStampede ... relax, it obviously wasn't supposed to be a serious post at all
Pokémon fans sure are something.
Well, people did complain about Wailord being too small
this is awesome
It looks pretty off to me. I think it’s cool that they’re making the Pokémon different sizes, but this looks like they just dragged to enlarge the models and it looks weird. Like, you can tell which Mons are meant to look naturally large and which ones don’t.
Horny people please
please stop
Now they are hating because Pokémon sizes are more realistic?! Why are this PokéHaters so... ugh!
Just... why they always gotta be like that, geez. 🤨🙄😒
(PS: I avoided the spoilers and jumped straight into comments right after reading the Twitter spoiler warning)
Some Pokemon "fans" !!!!!!!, will always look for something to complain about.
These twitter posts you put in the article are just hilarious
Forget gardevoir and lopunny big Bidoof is where its at
It looks weird, but at least it's an interesting-ish mechanic. I don't like knowing that 'Alpha Lopunny' & 'Alpha Gardevoir' are a thing now.
"Please step on me" "mommy"
Please, shut the f**k up.
@Orpheus79V then you'll be super happy with the "Machoke me daddy" that was getting bat around the twitter thread.
@Silly_G
"Togepi, break his legs!"
"I thought there was a level cap of 99..."
"Yeah, my Togepi doesn't believe in consent."
I like this. It provides a lot more variety out in the game world. I also really like that they took the time to make them react when you're talking to them, like bigger ones crouching down to your level. I'm thinking I'm really going to enjoy this game. Gonna ride a Glaceon into battle lol.
It good to have different size Pokémon that makes it all the more interesting.
@Chibi_Manny There will always be people that are upset, unfortunately. However, is it really a "realistic" thing? Have you seen guinea pigs or parakeets or Labrador retrievers tower over humans? You said you didn't look at the images, but they show one species of Pokemon that are both huuuuuuuge and also super tiny, and the Labrador example was from another Twitter user
That being said, I personally like the idea of size difference for Pokemon and have no gripes with it. It just...it isn't realistic, dog
This may be one of the several reasons they took down the main Pixelmon mod for Minecraft. One of it's many draws was that Pokemon could be hilariously tiny or freakishly huge. They would definitely not want to compete with something that would be upgraded constantly for free. Also I don't want realism in my Pokemon games. We're making sentient creatures fight each other and they somehow come to love us for it. They were never realistic.
Ok I actually like the pokemon's new sizes, I always thought they were a little to small in sword, does that mean we will get actual sized legendary's? 👀
@Fizza Would you mind if I gave you a answer?
If you don't mind, just click on this Yes, its valid
Pokemon fans are the gaming equivalent of Karens; they will bitch and moan about something the size of a pixel TO a pixel.
The only spoiler I want is if there will be a Mega-like transformation or something. That would be the cherry of the "alpha" cake.
Besides, they apparently never played a Xenoblade game if the think THOSE are big...
Anyone have exact numbers on how much variance the "height value" makes?
I presume 127 is "average" sized (1x scale) but does anyone know the minimum and maximum scale?
I am now torn between making a team entirely of massive absolute-units-of-pokémon or itty-bitty babies.
their max size seems too high but it's a cool feature and great if their relative size to each other is accurate. don't know how the curve works, the extremely large being rarer would be better
It maybe looks a little sillier with humanoid pokemon since we'd be particularly sensitive to the height of those relative to our trainer. And I'm guessing a lot of these screenshots are of the 1 of a kind "alpha" pokemon.
Maybe I'd prefer it to skew a little closer to their default sizes, but the variety is definitely needed in this game. It's not like they have different IVs or abilities in gameplay to differentiate them.
Pokemon left realism behind all the way back when they decided that 'mons would "evolve" from one species to another instead of changing form by, y'know, growing up like a proper animal. I know that sounds like a petty gripe, but it's an original sin that's kinda directly responsible for this mess, wherein size variation has to be artificially applied to ageless creatures in a twisted simalacrum of reality instead of just naturally following from younglings being smaller than their elders.
Aaanyway, the result is something that superficially looks fine so long as you don't think about it too hard - except for the Pokemon that've also committed the arguable design sin of cribbing too much from humanity, since our brains are hardwired to notice when things have gone terribly out of whack with depictions of the human form. They've painted themselves into a corner with these freakish Lopunnies and Gardevoir in particular, and there's no easy way out.
@Snatcher Eh, the big pokemon are funny as hell. It already gets my mind going as to what teams I'll have in this game.
@VoidofLight I think its really cool, and TBH something I didn't think they'd do.
I like this. It doesn't seem like it does a ton, but it does add a little variety. I think in no time at all, hunting for the biggest and smallest Pokemon will be a thing just like shiny hunting.
Ngl, those are pretty anxiety inducing. Haha. Especially since they not that huge in the anime. But I mean this is ancient times, so like dinosaurs, I guess it makes some sense..., It does feel weird tho in an unsettling way XDD
The real question is, will size give an advantage in battle? And will a small Mon you catch grow in size as you own the mon and play the game? And how? By passing of switch time? Or leveling up?
I feel toward pokemon what most feel toward Fotnite. I can kinda respect it for what it pioneered...but it just needs to go away now.
Before they were too small, then not big enough, now too big. I see the saying "Pokemon fans hate Pokemon the most" is confirmed.
@danemord Well yeah, the same force driving you to say it's a joke drives the whole r34 industry as a whole
Y'know the 'whoa!' you make when you walk past a massive dog, well, I dare say the game will give you that same feeling when you discover a massive Pokemon lol.
It would certainly be cool if it effected their stats, still neat in an odd way as it is though. I'd want the widest Psyduck available.
@Nin10doh Now too variable, I guess.
First world problems, I guess.
@UsurperKing Is anything about pokemon realistic though? Like they exist in a virtual world where anything could happen. I don't get why people complain about realisticness
@Fizza
You are absolutly right, it was bit weird that they were all soooo small.
It is just good that they render them in their proper Size and with Variation.
Pokemon Battle Revoultion was the last Game that did it.
I for one, am excited! Back in gen 6 Pumpkaboo was the first poke'mon to have size difference, which also changed it's stats depending on how big it was. This could mean that this now applies to all poke'mon, bigger being more hp, at, def, sdef, -spd. Smaller being more spd, -hp, -def, -sdef! This may change how competitive works now!
Totem Pokemon made me uncomfortable too.
I didn't think a choppy framerate was something possible for a turn-based Pokemon game to have (playing on my O3DS)!
It's almost like it's a fictional fantasy video game that doesn't have to be like real life.
Are these people braindead?
