Re: Video: Dark Souls On Switch Has More In Common With Last Gen's Original Than This Year's Remaster

Cobalt

Where are you @Dalarrun ? Who's the troll ? Who's the liar ? LOL

Dalarrun Thu, 6:52pm
@Mrtoad
It is 1080p docked. Don't take anything Cobalt says seriously, the dude is a known troll.

Cobalt Thu, 7:33pm
@Mrtoad No, the Switch version of DS use the same (not as bad) technique that Xenoblade 2 use... :/
"The Switch in portable mode can also exhibit noticeable frame pacing issues. Portable mode renders at a native resolution of 1280x720. Docked mode uses a dynamic resolution that switches between 1280x720, 1600x900 and 1920x1080."
@Dalarrun : If you don't know that the Switch use a dynamic resolution, too bad for you but it's not trolling, it's just true !
It's not 1080p from A to Z like you kind of said...

Dalarrun Fri, 7:29am
@goggles789

1080p docked, 720p handheld. Don't drink Cobalt's kool-aid.

goggles789 Fri, 7:38am
@Dalarrun
I, like Cobalt, think for myself, and research. I'm just confirming what he is saying. That the game dynamically switches between 720p, 900p and 1080p, depending the workload of the system.

@goggles789

You're absolutely right ! ^^
Now, you'll be treated like a troll only because you point true facts, so be careful dude.

It's just insane how some people can't just admit the reality when it's about their favorite brand, I never understood that.
I think the total opposite way, like I absolutely LOVE Xenoblade Chronicles X but I refuse to forget how the mixing between musics and dialogue is poorly executed.

I think there are a lot of young people here and it could explain why they are so capricious sometimes.

What is wrong to just talk about factual elements ?

To conclude, my personal thought is simple :

Dark Souls Remaster on Switch is a great thing because Ninty players can experience the game for the first time on their system.
Technically, the game can't handle 1080p/4K like the other versions but use a dynamic resolution from 720p to 900p to 1080p.

The same for the framerate, the Switch version can't support 60fps constant but 30fps with hiccups when it's too busy on screen.
Some effects are not present on the Switch version because that's too heavy to handle.

The sound FX and musics are downsampled to 22 kHz to fit a smaller cartridge size compare to the bigger size of a Bluray disc.

So, the Switch version for me is a "in between version", I mean the PS4/ONE/PC get a remaster and the Switch get "the missing link" in between the PS3/360 version and the PS4/ONE/PC one.

With all that said, I think the game deserve an honest 6/10 for the people who play "docked only" and a 7/10 for the people who play "handheld mode".

@AloftStudio

I have five questions for you :

_1st, why a resolution of 288 x 216 ?

_2nd, do you plan to output the game on CRTs ?

_3rd, or it was only convinient to have a multiplier X5 to get a fullscreen (4:3, 1440 x 1080) and keep the aspect ratio just to look more vintage ?

_4th, do you plan to add a CRT shader on the display options ?

_5th, do you need people to translate the game in several languages or the game will be in english only ?

PS : Sorry for the amount of questions and the best of luck for your project... (next year, my turn ^^).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 20th)

Cobalt

@BladedKnight

I'm 100% with you buddy !

Just a question : I play SoulCalibur VI on PS4 and I'd like to know if on XBOX ONE, you feel the same as I feel...

What I mean by that is that the game looks even smoother than a 60fps... o_O dunno how to describe it better but it's almost like visually they made the game ULTRASMOOTH.
Do you experience the same on XBOX ONE ?

PS : RDR2 = NO SOCIAL LIFE ANYMORE !

@goggles789

Again, you're absolutely right ! ^^

Some of the people here, they call me a Nintendo hater even if I already said several times that on my TOP 3 favorite consoles of all time list, there are 2 consoles from Nintendo.
I said several times how much I love Zelda BOTW, Xenoblade, MarioKart, Donkey Kong etc... but guess what, I'm a troll and a hater... LOL.

Basically, to be accepted as a "good guy", you have to say that everything is perfect, every game is a 9/10 or a 10/10 etc...etc...

I'm not and I won't become like that...
When something is bad, it's bad... and vice versa... ^^

Re: Review: Dark Souls: Remastered - Perfect Portable Punishment

Cobalt

@Blizzia

I understand your point of view even if I don't share it...
When you play docked on a 65" screen, let me tell you that the dynamic resolution that falls to 720p with disabled anti-aliasing makes my eyes bleed...

So talking about the definitive edition, it's a little to ingenuous for me...

@Frendo For your information :

https://www.everyeye.it/articoli/recensione-dark-souls-remastered-della-versione-per-nintendo-switch-41216.html

I translate for you :

"The occasional increase in image blur in docked mode, in fact, suggests that Dark Souls Remastered exploits a dynamic resolution system on Switch, going from 720p to 1080p to avoid significant changes in performance, even adopting the "comfortable" solution of the 900p.

In the same way, although it is not possible to establish it with absolute certainty, it seemed to us that even antialiasing (probably TXAA 2X) is disabled when the system is under stress, with rather visible consequences on the cleaning of the contours.

Although solutions of this kind are certainly not new in the way of porting on Switch, bearing in mind the technical merit of the basic material, it is reasonable to expect greater solidity in terms of optimization, even by making more substantial changes to an engine that this point of view has never shone.

Even more so considering that the version for the Nintendo hybrid does not include some of the nicest additions landed on the living room cousins, which relate to the fielding of an advanced effect."

Re: Monolith Soft Director Would "Love" Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, Money Stands In The Way

Cobalt

@shaneoh

The OST is fabulous, from my perspective it's the best ever made in a MonolithSoft game. BUT, the mixing between the tracks and the audio(SFX and dialogues) IS NOT GOOD AT ALL. The problem is that there is no settings for the sound, which is a shame !

Still my favorite Xenoblade by far ! It's the most complex, the biggest, the fullest and clearly design for more adult people...
9.5/10

Re: Starlink: Battle For Atlas Physical Release Will Require A 6GB Day One Update

Cobalt

And now, another example of STUPIDITY !

Because Bandai Namco doesn't want to pay for a bigger cartridge, this is how they found a "great" solution to make the game fit. o_O

https://nintendosoup.com/dark-souls-remastered-switch-still-suffers-from-compressed-audio/

I'm tired of all those problems that Switch users have to deal with.

1st, the game looks and plays better somewhere else.
2nd, the game is already available somewhere else.
3rd, the game can't fit the size of a small cartridge so we just compress all the audio to the max... :/

Re: Video: See Yo-Kai Watch 4 Running On Switch With This 10-Minute Gameplay Video And Trailer

Cobalt

@maruse

GREAT means artistically beautiful, means nice and rich textures, means totally fluid with a constant framerate, means 3D with more than 20 polygons, means no pop up textures just in front of you, means a minimum of AA, means a minimum of normal maps on the 3D, etc...

Yokai Watch 4 is poor and unworthy of the Switch capabilities...

I'm sorry but when I read stuffs like "it reminds me Ni No Kuni 2", I can't stop laughing... I think we are in a so dry period than whatever will be shown, it'll become awesome/great/beautiful etc...

The reality :

@roboshort said : "If I say a movie looks good, does it mean the movie is beautiful or it looks like a movie I’ll enjoy?"

Dunno man I'm not native.
If I'll translate your sentence in french, the meaning would be "a visually appealing movie". Like, a really good photography that gives a beautiful aspect to the image...(like the greenish photography in Matrix for example).
