I know this type of article can be incredibly disheartening, considering the circumstances. Sometimes, the winds of change brew a little slowly. Even the wealthy eventually see consequences for their ill deeds; there’s only so far a person can run, because there is no escaping oneself.
@moodycat I'm assuming by souls-like they mean to include elements like high risk/reward, challenging fights, and no-nonsense combat. Souls games didn't become truly open world until Elden Ring. The prior games were very, very focused experiences, especially Demon's Souls.
@shaneoh I love Rogue. There have barely been any games like it since it’s inception, yet publishers and devs will say ROGUELIKE if they share even one mechanism from Rogue. Same crap with RPG games. Those are just story books with turn based fighting and exp systems. None of them feature any actual role play, like pen and paper RPGs had. Ah, I love being old enough to shout at clouds
@OorWullie Sometimes you gotta push a product out early, hope it sells, then use the profits to fix stuff like this. Games are mainly a service now, after all.
Pretty sure this might be considered genocide, at this point!
Reminds me of the time From Soft had a website registering the number of player deaths by hazard in Dark Souls 2. Sure, people died a lot by the bosses and enemies, but those numbers paled in comparison to the number of players falling in pits! Gravity OP!
@Joeynator3000 Same here. I played Dogma after Dark Souls. The stiff combat, excessive fetch quests and the annoying banter from party members made me put it down.
@Vivid_viking The ONLY turtles game I care about is TMNT IV. This one looks pretty and I’m happy the artists did the game justice, but it doesn’t look like it captures the magic. So, right there with ya
@gcunit I am still left wondering why game-breaking bugs are present in a 9/10 game. I understand that it's largely based on the perception of the writer and player, but if I am aware of such a thing, that would diminish my personal enjoyment.
@ThomastheTankEngine A lot of truth is spoken in your comment. The problem, is that some people dislike confronting the truth, especially about games they love.
Hell, I thought it was Miyamoto that keeps sending the lawyers out? (joking)
@Araquanid Almost everything released on the Switch gets released on Steam, too! Like the recent Ninja Turtles game So reading a Nintendo site is still helpful for a PC gamer, like me!
And thank you for commenting back! I appreciate it! <3
@sketchturner I enjoy reading the articles, especially from Kate Grey and Damien McFarren. I enjoy chatting with the user-base, since this site is for the most part, non-toxic in that regard. The site does non-Nintendo related articles all the time, too, as I'm sure you've noticed. I like watching out for stuff like console mods and the emulation hand-helds, for example.
@ThomastheTankEngine Honestly, the Steam Deck looks a little too breakable, so I'm just sticking to PC gaming. I really hate that Nintendo is so heavy-handed with it's copyright protection. I get that they are legally protected to do so...doesn't make it right or ethical for them to use their billions of dollars to bully individuals, though. Fines would have been plenty of punishment for these people.
Thank you for replying in kind. Sometimes I feel like this place is becoming a Nintendo echo chamber.
I thought Casey Jones used hockey sticks, not golf clubs?
This review reads like it's second-hand. I don't doubt that the reviewer played the game, but it reads like someone is telling the reviewer deeper information so they can fill in the blanks for the things they didn't do.
It reads like a long-winded commercial for the game, and completely blows off recalling the major bugs and glitches in the "joy/con" section, which should be listed there, in summary. Color me skeptical.
EDIT: Thank you @Tom-Massey for taking the time to professionally address these concerns, consider this comment null and void
Having drawn pixel art with vector style programs on and off for small projects over the years, I have A LOT of respect for the people who do that for a living. It takes a ton of patience!
@stinky_t Oh why thank you! You’re too kind. I agree with you that from a PR perspective, he’s shooting himself in the foot, thanks for clarifying what you meant <3
@stinky_t You don’t understand something until you’ve experienced it. Watching a sliver of game footage isn’t exactly going to give a full understanding of a game. So, I disagree with you. It’s the perfect words to use, in a world where people see a tiny bit of information and then convince themselves they have full knowledge. Especially in the games industry.
