Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Verdict For Indiana Jones On Switch 2

@gcunit fortune and glory indeed! I love to see these miracle ports come out on Switch 2.

And beating Xbox Series S is glorious. I had one those and enjoyed it - but that little box cranked out some serious fan noise and heated up like crazy. I love that that level of graphics tech (and more) now fits gently in my hands - with a gorgeous eight inch screen - on the switch 2

Re: Opinion: Replaying Star Fox 64 Convinced Me A Switch 2 Remake Is A Good Idea

Benjamin_K

@Misima nailed it right there. A multiplayer Star Fox with steezy Arwing move combinations and a few subtle (but not overpowered) character-based special weapons/move upgrades would be soooooo awesome and would likely sell like crazy.

Follow the EA battlefront series example and they wouldn’t even need a single player mode until the second one 😅

Re: Video: Here's How Star Fox On Switch 2 Compares To The N64 Original

Benjamin_K

That video does a lot to make me excited + nostalgic, it’s a gorgeous remake and the OG was one of my favorites.

Random Notes:
(1) the added option of gunner and pilot looks fun.
(2) Fox looks a little off but Falco looks fantastic
(3) I hope this very safe move by Nintendo preps their game design team to make a future, BOTW-level Star Fox game - they need to revisit what made this game great, refine the character models a bit more, and figure out a bold new step that gamers will love. New Star Fox by 2028/2029? I hope so

Re: ICYMI: Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Estimated Switch 2 File Size Revealed

As probably the lone game key card indifferent Switch 2 user on this site (👻) I will be sad to have to decide between a resellable (which is a big plus) version with 50-100% slower load times of an already massive game and a non-resellable e-store version that will make the most of that 2,100 MB/sec data transfer rate for internal files.

I said it: for a game this massive and platform-stretching, I would have preferred a game key card 👽

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Review Of Pragmata On Switch 2

Benjamin_K

@Misima I 100% hear you. Cinematic frame rates FEEL better than 60fps+, which is a level above which everything looks like a cheap daytime drama. I also hate motion smoothing mode on 4k tvs, it looks terrible and weird. While I can see why gamers who are tracking fast moving objects want that 120 fps experience, when I'm playing a game that is cinematic and beautiful like BoTW or ToTK, I never feel any improvement over 60fps, and 30fps suits me just fine

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Review Of Pragmata On Switch 2

Benjamin_K

Love to see graphics on Series S looking distinctly worse than Switch 2. They'll probably listen and add an optional fps cap for docked mode (hopefully 40fps) and handheld (30fps). Personally, I don't mind fps variance when I can get above 35fps most of the time, I'd prefer that over a cap. Altogether, pretty happy with the results!

Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2

Benjamin_K

Goodness, if 60fps was in the ballpark, why drop ALL the way down to 30fps??

I agree with @Max_the_German, 40fps looks much much better than 30fps and it should be the Switch 2 standard for all but the most intensive games. I'm pretty confident the boost from 30fps (pretty much the standard on Switch 1) would satisfy most people.

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

Benjamin_K

I actually think our dear friend here severely underrates the likelihood of a Super Switch. SNS isn't a bad acronym at all and "Super" is a strong way to differentiate the new console without being confusing like Wii U was. And I'd be willing to bet people would just call it the Super Switch (SS), and leave it at that. Can't wait for the announcement of the real thing, though!!

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022

Benjamin_K

My guess is the Switch 2 will be more or less the power of the ROQ Ally, though probably a little lower-powered (say 85% the graphical power) to save on battery life (since the Ally only lasts an hour on graphics-heavy titles), and also lighter than the Ally (my guess is 450 grams). That puts it at better than the PS4, and due to faster memory and other cache and instructions-per-second improvements, will be as fast as the PS4 Pro without the brute force of that machine (similar to how the XBOX Series S is faster in practice than the Xbox One X, despite lower graphical power on paper). So you're looking at a GTX 1060 (Max-Q) in your hands, running at 1080p on a crisp OLED display (I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo just kept the Switch OLED's screen).

I also guess that the Switch 2 will do something / have a functional capability that nobody saw coming, and that will make it the talk of the town, because Nintendo is always throwing new ideas into the mix. And it won't be called Switch. Nintendo won't re-run Wii and Wii U.

@themightyant to the SEC, just like companies that pay bribery fines for violating the FCPA (Foreign Corruption Practices Act). Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

Benjamin_K

@Mach_Rider truly! I mean, just look at these reviews (which are clearly real folks, not bots)

"KaiDaiSai - Nov 9, 2022
This game reminded me of why I love Sonic. While it’s not perfect with issues like pop-in and cyberspace controls, it manages to tell a really cool story with the open world and Super Sonic boss battles being some of the big highlights… Sonic is finally back"

Higoshi88 - Nov 9, 2022
"This is my first ever review of a video game on a website....Overall this is a step in the right direction and I would be lying to say Sonic in an open space isn't fun, It's EXTREMELY fun! Though not a perfect game, this formula with some revisions and add-ons could create an even better game!"

sonicpal - Nov 9, 2022
"I haven't had so much fun with a sonic game till now. They've got a winning formula and building upon it will bring sonic back to the top."

NL staff should really ask themselves why their review was so out of step...

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of No Man's Sky On Switch

Benjamin_K

I'm honestly just so impressed that Hello Games jerry-rigged a version of their MASSIVE and GRAPHICALLY INTENSIVE space explorer game onto the tiny Switch hardware. If it feels like it's been jerry-rigged, I'm totally okay with that! The NL review shows that the fun of the game isn't compromised, and the skittish graphics on the margins just shows how little they matter to the actual enjoyability of the gameplay!

Re: Community: Found A Great Switch Game We Didn't Review? We Want To Know

Nine Parchments! The game is such a chill experience in a group — I've stayed up till 3 am on multiple occasions playing its simple yet enjoyable game cycle. The unique combination of magical powers and upgrade possibilities make every group a new experience, which is lovely. And the voice acting is hilarious. Harry Potter-lite plus tons of monsters to blast with your magic--who could ask for more? https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nine-parchments-switch/
