Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2

Benjamin_K

Goodness, if 60fps was in the ballpark, why drop ALL the way down to 30fps??

I agree with @Max_the_German, 40fps looks much much better than 30fps and it should be the Switch 2 standard for all but the most intensive games. I'm pretty confident the boost from 30fps (pretty much the standard on Switch 1) would satisfy most people.

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

Benjamin_K

I actually think our dear friend here severely underrates the likelihood of a Super Switch. SNS isn't a bad acronym at all and "Super" is a strong way to differentiate the new console without being confusing like Wii U was. And I'd be willing to bet people would just call it the Super Switch (SS), and leave it at that. Can't wait for the announcement of the real thing, though!!

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022

My guess is the Switch 2 will be more or less the power of the ROQ Ally, though probably a little lower-powered (say 85% the graphical power) to save on battery life (since the Ally only lasts an hour on graphics-heavy titles), and also lighter than the Ally (my guess is 450 grams). That puts it at better than the PS4, and due to faster memory and other cache and instructions-per-second improvements, will be as fast as the PS4 Pro without the brute force of that machine (similar to how the XBOX Series S is faster in practice than the Xbox One X, despite lower graphical power on paper). So you're looking at a GTX 1060 (Max-Q) in your hands, running at 1080p on a crisp OLED display (I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo just kept the Switch OLED's screen).

I also guess that the Switch 2 will do something / have a functional capability that nobody saw coming, and that will make it the talk of the town, because Nintendo is always throwing new ideas into the mix. And it won't be called Switch. Nintendo won't re-run Wii and Wii U.

@themightyant to the SEC, just like companies that pay bribery fines for violating the FCPA (Foreign Corruption Practices Act). This link shows how they put the proceeds of those fines in one of three places: https://www.marketplace.org/2022/08/12/where-does-money-collected-from-corporate-fines-go/#:~:text=Over%20at%20the%20SEC%2C%20a,used%20to%20repay%20harmed%20investors.

Re: Review: Sonic Frontiers - A Bold But Ultimately Failed Attempt At Something New

Benjamin_K

@Mach_Rider truly! I mean, just look at these reviews (which are clearly real folks, not bots)

"KaiDaiSai - Nov 9, 2022
This game reminded me of why I love Sonic. While it’s not perfect with issues like pop-in and cyberspace controls, it manages to tell a really cool story with the open world and Super Sonic boss battles being some of the big highlights… Sonic is finally back"

Higoshi88 - Nov 9, 2022
"This is my first ever review of a video game on a website....Overall this is a step in the right direction and I would be lying to say Sonic in an open space isn't fun, It's EXTREMELY fun! Though not a perfect game, this formula with some revisions and add-ons could create an even better game!"

sonicpal - Nov 9, 2022
"I haven't had so much fun with a sonic game till now. They've got a winning formula and building upon it will bring sonic back to the top."

NL staff should really ask themselves why their review was so out of step...

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of No Man's Sky On Switch

I'm honestly just so impressed that Hello Games jerry-rigged a version of their MASSIVE and GRAPHICALLY INTENSIVE space explorer game onto the tiny Switch hardware. If it feels like it's been jerry-rigged, I'm totally okay with that! The NL review shows that the fun of the game isn't compromised, and the skittish graphics on the margins just shows how little they matter to the actual enjoyability of the gameplay!

Nine Parchments! The game is such a chill experience in a group — I've stayed up till 3 am on multiple occasions playing its simple yet enjoyable game cycle. The unique combination of magical powers and upgrade possibilities make every group a new experience, which is lovely. And the voice acting is hilarious. Harry Potter-lite plus tons of monsters to blast with your magic--who could ask for more? https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nine-parchments-switch/
