Well, doing next-gen open world game with rich deep gameplay, voce acting and everything on Kickstarer. Not gonna happen, unless Kickstarter would be just well, a start to attract some publisher willing to fund majoriy of the project alongside marketing.
As they say, may the best win, and Nintendo faced off with some classy competition this year. It's always nice to see Nintendo games being recognized but for me BAFTA's are probably the most fair awards show out there.
Pretty generic for a Mario Golf game. I love what they did on the cover of Mario Kart 8 but this is too, hmm, toned down maybe? I would expect something to pop out of the cover like on Super Mario 3D Land box.
As always nothing beats free, so I can't complain. I've been playing this version on 3DS for past couple of days and the contrained screen gets a little in a way of moving around some areas but all in all it's still Mario and it's still awesome.
Off-TV play streams video at 60fps (for supported games) so I'd say it's pretty kick-donkey.I agree GamePad's not been used in the most creative ways so far, maybe except for Rayman Legends to which it is absolutely essential. I just like Wii U GamePad Please watch the profanity — TBD
@unrandomsam Yeah, controllers are nice thing for mobile platformers but only a handful of players will use it and when designing a game you have to assume that most people will use touch controls. Also take into account different screen resolutions and aspect ratios and hardware. It's a lot more pain than developing for one fixed system.
I always had a problem with gaming on phones because you basically obscure large part of the screen with your fingers. It's less of an issue on a tablet but holding a tablet is not that much comfortable, at least compared to say Wii U GamePad.
You can't port Nintendo platformers to touch devices. However, it is possible to create brand new experiences on phones and tablets (see excellent Rayman Jungle Run) but still it's impossible to hit the Nintendo quality and joy of playing as far as platformers go. Does anyone want Mario auto runner?
It's actually good news. Developing cross-gen titles hurts the quality because you have to compromise on a lot of stuff to fit the game on every system.
And don't worry we'll have plenty of awesome games to play on Wii U anyways
That's cool, and I'll probably get it for Wii U in hope to play in Off-TV mode. It has portable roots so I guess it will feel the best played that way.
Mario Kart 8, Zelda U, Smash Bros U, GC Virtual Console, price cut and software price. Nintendo has to realize that you can't sell several-years-old games at $60.
I really liked "Moon", I thought it was the next best thing to "Metroid Prime: Hunters" when it comes to FPS on NDS. Would be awesome to se a follow up to this on 3DS, without all the hardware limitations of previous gen.
And now, how about that Treasurenauts release date?
As this generation for Nintendo is all about asynchronous multiplayer, I'd like to see just that incorporated into "X" using some online functionality. I mean not a direct multiplayer like co-op or versus but something like sharing, exchanging chracters skills, items or community quests where thousands of players have to contribute in order to fullfil the quest's requirements and so on.
I don't know where Konami will take the series next but considering Lords of Shadow generated enough profit to warrant a prequel, sequel, and PC port I guess they will produce an Xbox One, PS4 game with super graphics and a fitting magnitude. Although it would be awesome to have some more Castlevania on 3DS, either in the vein of Mirror of Fate or classic GBA/DS trilogies.
Mario on disc. Nintendo, I can get it 10 pounds cheaper if buying physical copy AND it's not forever and ever locked to my console. I really don't see reasoning behind the pricing on eShop.
What's the price on Link to the Past? And I'm just saying but €69.99 for AC4? That's ridiculous. Who would prefer to buy it digitally with that price point?
Wii U could get more advertising and as 3DS gathers much attention why not advertise Wii U in the same places that 3DS is advertised? Like there is opportunity with the Smash Bros because it's cross platform. And more promotions. There are numerous discounts and promotions on 3DS like buy 2 games get one free or something and there is almost none for Wii U. Didgital Deluxe Promotion is a failure because digital releases on Wii U are more pricey than retail. And what you buy on 3DS does not count towards it. How about promotion like buy Super Mario 3D World and get Super Mario 3D Land for 50% of regular price.
I'd like to see direct comparison but from what I've seen of PS3/360 versions this looks like considerably higher texture resolution. And as I don't really care about PS exclusive DLC, I'll probably play AC4 on Wii U while waiting for Watch_Dogs.
Apart from new mario and stuff I think Nintendo should finally reveal Zelda U which is THE killer app and system seller that Wii U needs so much. It's not coming out soon I guess but it's time to build up a hype and show potential buyers that if you want to play a really unique, polished and one of a kind adventure, you can have it only on Wii U.
Interesting. I played it on X360 so I'm not getting Wii U version, but it fit one DVD and the DLC was like under 1GB for sure. I'll blame it on uncompressed audio or something.
Already played it on 360, with The Missing Link expansion. The game is super awesome. Paying that much more for a different platform is just ridiculous especially considering Wii U is struggling so much on the market. Publishers should support it with competitive pricing instead of charging a lot more than other platforms.
Other reviews around the Internet mention about the horrible framerate when playing with 3D on. I guess that's the reason why Game Freak decided to not implement it in all areas of the game.
I own all three consoles, so if I were to buy GTA I would pick the superior version in terms of performance, graphics and controls. If that would be Wii U- sure.
I live in Poland and can confirm that it's all true. Personally I bought my Wii U on launch day... via Amazon UK. It's a little better with 3DS, but some stores that used to sell Nintendo stuff no longer do that. It's very difficult to come across games for Nintendo systems at reasonable price, that's why I buy almost all my 3DS games through eShop, and Wii/U games with UK online retailers.
It's strange considering that original DS as well as original Wii were both very, very popular in Poland.
That's really tiny. I don't know exactly what they did with the game, but I guess lo-poly geometry and simple colour palette has something to do with it being just 1,7GB. Still, on promotional videos, visually it's a 1080p stunner. I can't imagine this game looking better while still remaining faithful to the original art style.
I would also probably pick Twilight Princess. Everything about that game was magical and so well put together. And even though Skyward Sword had better boss fights and did a whole better job at using all the Wii Remote had to offer, I still think it was a lesser game overall. All the backtracking really felt like artificially extending the length of the game.
I will be getting Rayman Legends but not as a digital download. I can get it cheaper at retail, and it's nice having awesome box. I buy most of my 3DS game digitally but for some reason for Wii U I still prefer boxed copy.
Iwata is right about the software. I preordered the system because of the promise of Rayman Legends as exclusive launch title. We all know how this deal ended. I still got my Wii U on day one just to satisfy my curiosity of the system. I had a blast with games I played on it (including Rayman Challenges App) but it's been mostly eShop titles, VC and, well... Wii games.
And they made a pretty big mistake calling it Wii U. With the first announcement at E3 I honestly was confused if it was a new system or just a cool new peripheral for the original Wii.

Oh, and I don't know if anyone cares about it, but Wii U GamePad pretty much solves split-screen problem of squeezing two games onto one screen.
