Re: Former Metroid Prime Engineer Admits He Was "Disappointed" With The Wii's Specs

@PBandSmelly I’m glad you used that example because it just proves that the experience differs on a case by case basis. Alien Isolation for example has parity with the PS4 version, so do the Bioshock games, off the top of my head. Some Switch ports improve on the PS4/Xbox One versions in some cases. Another good example is Dying Light. But the example you gave, A Hat In Time, that’s the product you get when the Switch version/port is made without passion from the top. Especially after the negativity the creator/dev expressed towards the possibility of a Switch version in the early years of the console. Lack of passion and financial incentive leads to bad ports. It’s not purely a “power” thing.

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

Ballzilla

@gortsi @Grumblevolcano There's an exclusive MH coming, Steep has issues associated with online and Nintendo is helping and CoD is still coming. Condrey, just like in 2014, comments on what his studio is doing. SHG is not porting the Switch version. Beenox is. And they're not talking about it. Wait for an August reveal, around Gamescom.

In 2014 Condrey commented on Advanced Warfare and the Wii U saying: "We're not developing a Wii U version. That was a business decision made by Activision to focus us on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Another studio is doing current-gen (PS3/360). The Wii U wasn't on the business key plan. So that was off our radar, but I know the company's not doing it."

Compare that to the "No" we have this year. He can't talk about something out of his hands and announce something Activision clearly doesn't want announced at this time.

Re: Codemasters Hasn't Completely Ruled Out Bringing Micro Machines To Nintendo Switch

@JH64 CoD yes. Battlefront II no. Not because the Switch is underpowered but because Frostbite is a messy and difficult engine.

Frostbite, to me, is a classic example of a poorly optimized engine that just needs more and more power to make up for that poor optimization.

Having more power is an easy way out for devs not wanting to deal with headaches like how flexible an engine is. Don't you ever wonder how Nintendo games manage to look good on weaker systems and also take up less space? Nintendo's teams are simply less lazy.

@Alshain01 Again, I disagree for the reasons stated before.

2DS was the same handheld portable experience without 3D. It wasn't TV vs handheld. It was also aimed for children, hence the sturdy wedge design and Nintendo fans who wanted a budget console to play their favourite titles for $99 on Black Friday.

There has never been a Nintendo hybrid console until the Switch. Comparing it to 2DS vs 3DS is difficult since they are essentially both handheld-only.

Maybe your idea will be true in the future of the Switch's life cycle, most likely when sales stabilize after a couple of years. But right now, at launch, it would be suicide for Nintendo.

As much as I enjoyed our conversation it's getting a bit boring and it seems we've reached a dead end. Don't like the Switch. Don't buy it. All I know is, come Christmas, I'll be enjoying the shit out of some Mario Odyssey on my TV and on the go. Not because I'm a rich hole-in-one, but because I saved up for a whole year and supported Nintendo by buying a product that made sense for my daily needs and my budget.

Have a nice day

Re: Feature: One Month of Nintendo Switch - Five Improvements We Want to See

@Alshain01 Like I said, one is a gameplay feature, the other is a console type. Multiple versions of a same console, each classified as a different type and a different experience can confuse and alienate consumers. Nintendo and any company worth its salt wants to avoid this at all costs. It also doesn't make sense from a developer standpoint. Some developers may not want to split resources, so then you have home-only games or portable-only. And how do you differentiate them in the market?

It's a messy process that would run any console company to the ground. Look at the history of the Sega Genesis and Sega CD and 32X. Calling it a clusternibelsnarf would be sugar coating it.

I get the reasoning behind your scenario and it's perfectly fine, but if we're being realistic and examine the game console market and its history, it's not feasible.

Re: Feature: One Month of Nintendo Switch - Five Improvements We Want to See

Ballzilla

@Alshain01 Different story. 3D is a gameplay feature. It wasn't a switch (pun intended) from traditional console roles to hybrid thinking. Also it was supposedly bad for kids because their vision was still developing so it was a no-brainer to make a sturdy 2D-only version to entice parents too scared to jump on the 3DS bandwagon.

Re: Feature: One Month of Nintendo Switch - Five Improvements We Want to See

Ballzilla

@Alshain01 It would be nice if they could cater to all audiences at once with multiple versions of a console but that is a really bad business tactic. It wouldn't be long before richer consumers demanded a more expensive, more powerful version since they can afford it. It's chaotic. My advice is for you to wait until the price goes slightly down and snatch one up. It's incredible.

Re: Feature: One Month of Nintendo Switch - Five Improvements We Want to See

Ballzilla

@Alshain01 fair enough, now I get what you mean. For people that want a full home console Nintendo experience, the only option is the now discontinued Wii U and that's not an option for you. What happened to the Wii U was Nintendo's fault starting from the confusing name and the developer-unfriendly architecture. It sucks. Had it not had such a rocky start things might have been different, but at least now we have a more focused Nintendo with more experience on HD development and scheduling.

I understand the original PS4 is more powerful than a Switch, but on the other hand the Switch is more portable than a PS4. It is also microscopic as oppose do to the PS4. My point is, the Switch is something entirely different and as a hybrid, very difficult to compare. Again when comparing graphics only, you say Switch tech is 6 years old. It's not. 6 years ago no one had such a thing in the market. Even nVidia Shield doesn't run as well as the Switch. The Switch benefits from being a Nintendo product, like it or not.

On the other hand, a launch PS4 is old hardware that chugs even in the system menu. You don't see that on a Switch. 6 years ago the Joy-Cons were not possible. The closest thing to a mass-produced, affordable and mass-purchased Joy-Con were the Wiimotes with Motion+. And even that didn't work as well as a Joy-Con.

If you want 4K Nintendo games with the latest bells and whistles then you're looking in the wrong place. How long do you think before the market stagnates? The PS4 and Xbox One are already interchangeable apart from some exclusives. What's next? It happened to the iPhone and it will happen to consoles eventually.

Me? I want innovation so I feel the need to upgrade. Otherwise, just get a custom built PC and call it a day.

Re: Feature: One Month of Nintendo Switch - Five Improvements We Want to See

Ballzilla

@Alshain01 Like I said, it's obvious the Switch isn't for you. You don't like the Joy-Cons and what they offer and you seem to prefer standard controllers. Plus you say you don't like the portability and wouldn't use it.

It's not like you want to buy it because you like what it offers and it's overpriced; you just don't like what it has to offer. I can't blame a launch day PS3 in 2006 for being an overpriced Blu-Ray player just like I can't judge a Switch solely on its use as a typical home console.

Playing with dual Joy-cons and exploring Hyrule is the bomb and it brings me back to playing Wii all chillaxed with my hands apart. And for some people like me, co-op out of the box is worth it. Controllers after all, are expensive, and not an easy decision for students that don't earn poop. In conclusion, show me the $260 PS4 you found with the pack in game, because that seems insane to me. And don't get me started on the mandatory installs on PS4 and its hidden costs.

*edit: I just realized you mean the original PS4 is $260. No one in their right mind would get an almost 3-year old console that chugs in 2017. Outdated hardware is not using what little money you have in a smart way if you can save for an extra 100-150 and get something that will work without lagging in menus/games.

Re: Forget Scratched Screens And Joy-Con Problems, "Warp-Gate" Is The New Nintendo Switch Issue

Ballzilla

@VENOMVSCARNAGE There is absolutely no need for that tape and it's a shame you believed the fake news. Now your machine is getting improper temperatures while playing and harming the normal function and life expectancy of your hardware.

I've said it time and time again in this website; the Switch has padding on the front bottom part of the dock. It's small, so you'll need a flashlight to see it since the dock is black. All the screen scratching BS was done for YouTube views and clicks. Nintendo planned ahead to fix this glaring issue and it's a shame NintendoLife reported on fake news without checking their own console to see the padding on the dock.
