Re: Feature: What The Creator of Ecco The Dolphin Did Next

@edannunziata LOL Of course I forgot about the porting process itself being a technical hurdle. But otherwise it’s cool to hear that securing licenses wouldn’t be as hard as I thought thanks to personal connections. It would be absolutely nuts if you could somehow collaborate with M2 if they decide to move forward with Saturn games in their SEGA AGES lineup. Although I have no idea how Mr. Bones fared in the Japanese market back then and if there’s much demand for a rerelease over there now...

But anyways, I hope your new game does well for you guys, and thanks for the reply.

“Also, if I have it my way, modern versions of Mr. Bones (Saturn) and Tiny Tank (PS1) are heading over to the Switch someday!”

Mr. Bones was one of my favorites on Saturn! Such a ridiculously quirky experience with an excellent soundtrack. Speaking of which, if Ed’s serious about getting this game on Switch (PLEASE!), he’ll have to somehow secure the rights to use Ronnie Montrose’s music. Not to mention working out a deal with SEGA and Rockstar. Sounds like an expensive licensing nightmare just to port/remaster such a niche game to modern platforms, but here’s hoping this dude can manage to do it. I’ll certainly be there day one!

The art is definitely beautiful, but all of the individual moving pieces and special effects seem like they’d be overwhelming from a gameplay perspective. I can see why the game’s been delayed for so many years when they keep adding in more and more and more and more graphical detail. At some point it’s just too much. Also not a fan of the narration in the trailer, it would’ve been much better without it.

That said, I wish the devs the best of luck and am looking forward to reviews of the Switch 2 version when it arrives in 5 years.

Damien authoring more content for the site is fantastic news and can’t be overlooked. His features are always well-researched with great photos and proofreading, with content that adds much-needed variety among the daily news articles and reviews. (Plus it helps he’s a huge SEGA nerd, which is totally cool by me!)

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th July (North America)

Wait a minute, a bunch of these games were also featured in last week’s download update. I guess if your game releases in-between Thursdays you get featured twice? Why even launch on a Thursday then? 🤔

Edit: And now the poll and the games in question have disappeared from the article. Stay winning, NL.

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th July (North America)

Poll was at 80 votes and 0% for 20XX, which is very surprising. It looks great and I plan on buying it on sale eventually, but the $3 Switch tax is dumb compared to the Steam price. Probably would’ve bought it day 1 if it wasn’t for that. 😕

The indie guest characters and pre-order discount convinced me to try Runbow. Pre-ordered Shining Resonance Refrain a while ago; first western Shining release in a decade needs every sale it can get. Speaking of which, where’s the option for it in the poll? It’s even the featured game in the header image! 😞

Re: Video: The Unsung Heroes of the Nintendo Switch eShop

@kirbygirl Bought it when it was <$2 on sale from $5. Very polished for a budget game and the one-button gameplay is crazy addictive. Lots of extra content. Though there’s no rumble, only a few enemy types, and repetitive music (but what’s there is great, from the guy who did Owlboy’s OST). I’d say it’s worth the $5 but there’s bound to be a sale on it again soon.

I feel like Fairune Collection came and went with little fanfare. For $10 it’s excellent. Imagine top-down classic Zelda simplified to the fundamentals with lots of polish and awesome chiptune music. Also a shoutout to King Oddball which I never expected to put 10+ hours into.

I’ve been a regular visitor to the site since 2011, so right around the time you started contributing to it. I usually never comment on anything posted here but I had to when I saw this. My jaw literally dropped. You’ve been such a prolific content creator for NL over the years, and you’ll be missed. I wish you all the best in your new role at Circle, and thanks for everything you’ve done for this community, Thomas! Peace! ✌️
