Re: Talking Point: Claims of Wii U Third-Party Development Troubles Shouldn't Be Dismissed Lightly

B-Squared

I really think a lot of this stems from Western developers attempting to work with a Japanese company. Translation issues and design philosophies clashing will make for some conflict. Contrast Microsoft and Sony, who seem to cater to Western developers more. Sony is still Japanese but more and more it feels like a Western company. Just look at the more Western oriented launch of the PS4....and the fact that Japan isn't getting it until later! A while ago a Bethesda guy stated that during development of PS4 and Xbox One, the companies would check with developers to get feedback for how to build it, while Nintendo is more isolated.

I'm not saying Nintendo should out and out copy their rivals, but I can see how some third party developers can be slighted. I'm really all for something akin to third party exclusives rather than out and out multiplatforms, myself. Not having to spread yourselves thin and no worries about porting to different systems. Like No More Heroes or Zombi U...but then....you need advertising for that too so...

Re: Feature: A Year in Development - Image & Form

B-Squared

I was somewhat interested in this game when I first heard of it, and I hear such praise thrown its way. After I slog through my backlog, I'll definitely pick this up. Great read too! Glad to see a dev that's down to earth and, dare I say, human.

Re: Sonic Lost World Gets Patched Up On Wii U

B-Squared

100 Rings granting a life by itself ups this game a few points in my book. It just seemed like an odd oversight and I'm glad that's into it. I admit I was kinda...bummed about the game at first but its grown on me. It can still bend me over its knee and break me, but I do have fun. I do wish the Wisp powers were more...y'know, USEFUL instead of being just an alternate path.

Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Heading for a Spring 2014 Release

B-Squared

I honestly hope this isn't true, only so the game can have the most time possible to polish it and make it great! I would say Summer at the earliest, maybe August? If it was, I'd be wondering what we'd see in the Fall and Winter of 2014 then.

That said, maybe they will release one version ahead of the other. Like, the 3DS one; you'd get time to get that mysterious feature you can transfer between versions ready for the Wii U....but who knows. I do feel if any version would pop out faster, it'd be 3DS...otherwise, who would buy the portable one if it came out last? Smash on the go is amazing but I feel the Wii U one would steal the show.

Re: TIME Lists Its Reasons For Picking Wii U Over PS4 And Xbox One

B-Squared

I'm really glad the article mentioned LEGO City Undercover and The Wonderful 101. Those games need a bit more exposure!

I'm not sure I agree with the "drop the price AGAIN" point...at least this soon. True, I just got a Wii U before the price drop, but this price drop just began and we have yet to see a return on it . Maybe once sales pick up there can be one...though I personally think $200 like he suggests is nuts. I mean...we're just NOW getting PS3 and Xbox 360 sales in that ball park.

Re: Nintendo Launches New Wii U Christmas Advertising In Japan

B-Squared

I'll go ahead and say it: bring back those "Wii Would Like to Play: ads! And there's at least one thing going on in this that I like: they show GAMES and the GAMEPLAY. As visually impressive as the Xbox One and PS4 ads can be...half the time they don't show any of the games that you play on the system. Of course, I'd like if this ad also showcased the Game Pad features and Miiverse and such but its a good start!

Re: Talking Point: The GamePad and its Role Defining the Wii U

B-Squared

I think the Game Pad has lots of potential and can help Nintendo stand out. It can't just be a graphical arms race (that said...Nintendo is behind in lots of features, like the way the eShops are handled, so they have a lot to learn).

I just think that no one's really hit on really great ways the Game Pad can be used besides, say, a move list for fighting games and a map or inventory. Its nice to see the map/move list at all times, but you still have to take your eyes off the action.

I think where the Game Pad can really differentiate itself is with multiplayer. The ways you can change up the game are really interesting, and Nintendo Land shows that.

As far as a "Wii 2" or "Wii HD"...I don't think that would help just by themselves. When I hear people talk about the Wii U it is less "I don't like the Game Pad" and more "What is Wii U?" or "It has no games that appeal to me." Really, you need marketing to get your message across and the software to back it up...and we might see that happen now after a very low-key year.

Re: DFC Intelligence Lowers Wii U Lifetime Sales Forecast, But Supports Holiday Releases and Strategy

B-Squared

I just don't get predictions like this. There are just too many variables. Its not impossible nor improbable that the Wii U's lifetime sales will be that amount, if not more or less but you simply can't know. Did people expect Mario Kart Wii to outsell GRAND THEFT AUTO IV? I didn't. It just seems like people like to pretend they know what they are talking about but you can only predict so much.

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario 3D World's Playful Whimsy is Refreshing, But Faces a Vital Commercial Test

B-Squared

As I look at my backlog of games recently...things like the Directors Cut of Deus Ex Human Revolution and Zombi U go untouched...while I played Sonic Lost World all the way through and almost got everything. Granted, that's not pure Nintendo (and I'm kinda broken up about this particular game) but I do feel that "modern AAA" games don't resonate with me. Nintendo is Nintendo and they don't compete with Sony and Microsoft in the same way. Its not that they couldn't; that's not who they are.

Nintendo will always be unique and seems to put fun first, which I appreciate. And I appreciate Sony and Microsoft doing something different too. I just wish people would put down their staunch fanboyism and give more things a chance. I only owned a Wii last generation because of money issues but there were a great amount of games on the other consoles too. Just give fun a chance!

Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening and ZombiU Developers Outline the Challenges of Permadeath

B-Squared

Still haven't gotten around to Zombi U yet (Have it but I'm no good with scary stuff ) but that whole approach to character death was why I got it.

Awakening was my first Fire Emblem game and I went Classic...and I feel I "understand" the game better that way. I still didn't like how, say, certain characters just "retire" though. For my Hard mode playthrough, I purposefully killed off any love interest of Chroms...and then Sully still came back and married him in the end. :/

Re: Review: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

B-Squared

I can only wait for so long! But its gonna be worth it. I've wanted a game like this for years! Different characters with different abilities! And with Rosalina in, maybe we'll see other people joining in...MAYBE in DLC or in future games.

Re: Happy Birthday, Wii U - You're One Today

B-Squared

I've been very entertained by my Wii U since I got it a few months ago. Lego City, Wonderful 101...even the surprisingly fun Nintendo Land. And I'm still working my way back to the heavy hitters of Pikmin 3, NSMBU and Wind Waker HD, among a few other things. Here's hoping year 2 and beyond breathes some life into it!
