Super Mario 3D World Reaches Top Spot On Amazon's North American Best Sellers Chart

Just last month I couldn't find Mario in the top 50.

I'm not sure as mario 3D world does nothing for me as i've played a lot of mario games, but DK Tropical Freeze is another story cannot wait for that. While i'll be buying DK Tropical Freeze day one, i can wait until sometime after xmas for mario.

I think cat Mario definitely helps, as we all know the internet loves cats. In fact, I'm surprised I haven't seen a single "I can has Mario" joke.

Seriously, I think it's time for Amazon to start selling Wii U again. 3D World will quickly become the best selling Wii U game at least.

Without being too much of a negative Nancy, I do worry that all the retailers won't re-stock Wii U as well as they should. I've been in GAME plenty of times since they announced all sorts of partnerships between themselves and Nintendo UK and you wouldn't know the Wii U existed. Last time they blamed the CoD launch for their lack of Wii U presence despite their being a Wii U version (that was not on a single shelf).

Anyway, I'm sure that this game will excite enough people to give Wii U a decent Xmas but our measure of decent has definitely been lowered since launch.

I had my doubts before, but it appears Mario is going to (once again) save a system from ruin.

Amazing news! I'm seriously glad this is happening, Nintendo, and especially Wii U desserve it so much. It's amazing how one awesome single game can do for a console, of course that only happens when it's a 3D Mario action game! Mario, our heroe in videogames and in real life!

a few places above Ryse, Zelda LBW (definitely given this title to ease the pain of no 2013 Ashes cricket) and Dead Rising is certainly impressive considering we're being told that nobody wants a Wii U and that 'next-gen' is about to vanquish Nintendo forever.

@Nintenjoe64 agreed. My biggest worry for the wiiu is its treatment by retailers. Game puts the games in a corner with no attention to any big game given at all,even 3d world only has a few boxes in the corner with a little "pre order now" sticker. My local independant Grainger Games dont even STOCK most games unless they are pre ordered( my most recent visit showed no wii party u, wii fit meter, batman arkham origins, w101 the list goes on).
So in summary retailers just dont seem to care about wiiu, so how on earth is any game meant to sell if no games are on the shelf?

Mario , Link , Donkey Kong , Samus , Kirby and Pikmin along with the Virtual Console are the reasons I own a Wii U - Though I have to say the Wii U on it's own merit is an Amazing system Nintendo's best to date it's a shame how many are missing out on how awesome this system really is it offers so much more than just playing video games I think it should be fine against the ps4 and xbox1 . Hopefully Mario brings enough attention for Wii U so more people will see how Awesome Amazing and different the Wii U is !

So let me get this straight:

A game that isn't even out yet and is for a console that isn't doing well at the moment is beating both Xbox One and PS4 on Amazon?

If you went back in time and told me that this time last year, i'd laugh in your face, lol!

Just Dance for Wii is 9th. I don't think it's as huge as people are making out.

Given the stellar reviews, it's not surprising, given the fact that

A) PS4 and XB1s launch titles are underwhelming.

B) There are like 3-4 million Wii Us in the wild.

We have yet to see if this will equate to hardware sales. Though if Wii Party U moved units, I know Mario surely will! Especially if you consider the value you're getting at $360 (Mario U, Luigi U and 3D World)

@Worthy That is not saying much when the inventory for the two consoles have been pre-ordered and sold out for quite some time.

It is an accomplishment that it is getting all the critical praise that it currently is, but the gaming media will just move on to the next shiny thing that comes along eventually (Xbox One launch). The traditional gamer crowd/media has already decided it is a two console generation and has dismissed the Wii U as they mostly ignored the Wii. When something so impressive comes along they cannot ignore it (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) they will give it praise and then quickly move on.

@Nintenjoe64 Game are terrible for Nintendo (At least where I live all the Nintendo stuff is facing away from what you can see when you come in. Everything that could be possibly only available used is.)

I am not sure what's worse, their lack of support for the products they're trying to sell or the way they stare at me like I'm an escaped lunatic when I enquire about anything Nintendo. They don't even let you pre-order Wii U games half the time despite the same games being available for pre-order on other systems. I guess that is why online and digital will eventually kill them

@Nintenjoe64 It won't because if anybody wants to pay anything lower than the RRP they have to pay Game. (I just won't do that so I don't get Retail Digital). Nintendo loves price fixing and stuff like that (They got that fine in the EU so they are a bit more relaxed about it here). Amazon are the best supporter of Nintendo there is anything they can keep in stock they do and they mainly only sell new.

I could see it if Nintendo had an agreement with Game to only sell official accessories keep everything in stock new as much as possible. Don't do the type of tricks they do at the moment where used is the normal new price everywhere else. They are not getting that (Maybe they think they are but they are not).

HMV on the other hand for stuff like films/music you can see why they get the concessions they do.

Although Mario and Zelda titles would sell well regardless, this really goes to show how much of an impact reviews have on the general public. It's kind of sad, to be honest, that the media has so much sway on sales.

I'm glad to see that early signs are positive for both Super Mario 3D World and the Wii U in general. I certainly would like to play that game myself.

I would be pleased if people are buying Wii U's to play Mario 3D, but there's a part of me that would like to say to each of these people: 'Clever you for buying a Wii U for Mario, but now you have to go and buy Pikmin 3, Lego City, Wind Waker HD and most importantly Wonderful 101 as well. Or you'll get a clip round the ear from me for not doing so'.

However, I stopped doing preorders from Amazon long ago, since once I ordered Mario Galaxy and it shipped two weeks after launch and I did not get my Mario coin preorder bonus that was originally promised with teh preorder.

Workmate got a wii u premium for just £199 yesterday. If you live in the UK these things are cheap. Hopefully we get some good hardware sales here over the holidays.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I hope I am, but I'm failing to spot this in the Amazon UK top selling games :/ could have sworn in was in the top 50 the other day, and now its dissappeared!

Found it, moved up number 24! Had to look under 'top 100'. Would have thought you could view it by sorting the gaming section my popularity where i was looking.

It's way too soon to tell if this title is going to turn around the Wii U's misfortunes. Nonetheless, the news is promising.

how funny is that, the "weaker" console with the least install base is at the top of charts with this new Mario title.

I just wonder how many of the people who are ordering this game are going to try to play it on their old Wii systems.

Half the people buying this on Amazon are probably parents buying it for their kids thinking its a Wii game because they dont even know about the Wii U. (see TRU, BB and Kmart all having ads for $99 Wii mini but not a single Wii U).

Anyway I think the bigger story is Amazon still not selling the Wii U. They've been bombarding me with Prime offers and PS4 and X1 is everywhere, Im sure they could help move some Wii U units if people could buy it from them.

There were very few times I've gotten this excited about a videogame. Besides Dragon Quest 8 I haven't felt this way in a long time. I hope Nintendo and 3D World rock the world baby!

Normally I would buy this one from Amazon, but I am downloading it the second it goes live.

On the other hand, A Link Between Worlds can wait, so I will get it from Amazon.

Need a Wii U, now

It'll help, but I doubt it will single handedly turn the console's fortune around.

Miyamoto's new IP is key. If it is a casual Wii Music/Fit type thing, i doubt it'll gain any traction, because Nintendo will NEVER get that audience back again (flocked to i-phone/i-pad/android devices, etc) not coming back, etc. If it's a new IP of the calibre of a Metroid or a Pikmin that makes genuinely innovative use of the gamepad, I can see that gaining a lot of traction with actual 'gamers'. They mightn't get the astronomical sales of the wii, but they can certainly fall somewhere respectably in between the wii and gamecube..

Building up a really solid library, regularly releasing quality content, and bringing the Zelda bundle with the price cut would help here in Aus....but then again, Nintendo could care less about Australia, so whatever...

Can't blame 'em! This game looks amazing! About two years ago I thought I was sick of Mario platformers, and then Super Mario 3D Land came along and shut me right up! And now we have THIS! Oh man, if only I had a Wii U! D:

the game looks amazing. picking up my copy at walmart tomorrow. quick question though...so if doesn't drastically sell systems what would the new excuse from the fanboys be?
