After many unsuccessful games I once managed to get first, but unfortunately, no coins for me. I am still happy about the first place though. Hopefully, Nintendo will do something similar again, mabye even with a different game. The competitiveness really puts a new spin on things.
Just Tetris for me this month. I haven't bought any Switch game since December and I only have a little over $20 on the eshop that I left there just in case some kind of tempting discount appeared. And actually, Sega Genesis Collection and Starlink, games that have been sitting on top of my wishlist, are both discounted in Europe. Since they are so different games, I can't really decide which one to pick up and knowing myself, I am just going to keep deciding until the offer ends.
I have a 200GB one from SanDisk and it's crazy how quickly I'm filling it up. I haven't bought any new AAA releases yet, but the Switch has introduced me to indie games and now I have tons of great indies, that I didn't get to play on the Wii U.
This kind of event fits Splatoon a lot better. Not only were the items for Zelda pretty useless for players further in the game, but Zelda just isn't the type of game where obtaining extra items from News posts feels fair. Splatoon is more grind based and these items (unlike Zelda) don't make the game easier or help you win.
I don't mind reduced framerate, worse textures, downgraded models or pop-in if the game runs well. But not only does this apparently not run very well, but the visual presentation of the game is completely destroyed. So yeah this is annoying to say the least.
Games like this and the Assassin's Creed remake have no right to have unstable framerate, but yet they do and it's really a shame. I thought Ubisoft will try to establish themselves as the top Switch supporter, but judging by this, it seems that they see Switch as a less important platform that they can just dump on some shovelware and easy ports for extra cash. Many big studios are like this and I am starting to lose hope that this is going to change anytime soon.
It's really strange that it took them this long when A Hat in Time got a similar filter but it's actually a lot better (with changed models and stuff), not to mention bunch of other extra stuff that came with that same update.
@westman98 You can't judge sales by UK charts, as it has never been a great market for Nintendo products. But the good digital sales (at least in Europe) could be caused by the fact that many countries don't have an official Nintendo branch, so distribution is handled by a distribution company. And in these countries, the price of any Nintendo product is crazy high, so it's often more affordable to buy games in the official eshop instead.
I was very surprised when I found out that it is at the top of Europe's best sellers eshop list. I wasn't sure if this game would do well, but it seems like it's selling all right. Hopefully this will translate into more support from Blizzard (Overwatch, pretty please).
I am one of the people, who are excited about Let's go and the Pokeball controller is the only gripe that I have with the game so far. It is waaaaay too expensive for what it actually offers. I am going to get the actual game (I am team Pikachu by the way) and then wait until the Pokeball gets cheaper.
... yay? Honestly though, I am kind of optimistic about this one. From what I've heard, the last one wasn't terrible, and if the price is just right this time around, the old bobcat might have a grand return.
I really want to like this game and support Blizzard so they put more games on the Switch, but sorry, I just can't. It's not because I think this is a bad game, but after watching some videos and even trying it myself, I can't understand the appeal of the gameplay. I guess I was never fond of games with this style and perspective. However, I'm still happy that it turned out to be a great port and I hope it sells well.
Sorry, the game might be good but I just can't support this kind of in-game-purchases implementation. You either give me a great complete game where I want to unlock everything and then maybe buy extra content afterwards, or I don't give you my money. Seriously, the game industry has gotten worse lately with many big companies using their established IPs to get as much money from their loyal customers as they can.
@Latinomex01 I seriously don't understand what is your problem. People in poor countries live without Nintendo consoles, does that mean it's disrespectful if we buy a Nintendo console? No, of course not. This guy spent some of his money and while I wouldn't personally do that, I don't know why he couldn't, it's his decision.
And by the way, I'm not American, I just disagree with the comment.
@Anti-Matter I unterstand why you don't want to play modded games, neither do I (at least not on the original hardware). I just think that modding has a bigger impact on the gaming industry than you might think. For example, neither Sonic Mania or Ms. Pac-Man would exist without modders.
@Anti-Matter Honestly I disagree with you on this one. Many older titles are still relevant thanks to the modding community. Just look at Super Mario 64. That game still has big community of players thanks to modders, who provide these players with "more Mario 64" to play. And many of these hacks are made with a lot of passion and love and sometimes bring new people to the series.
Just to clarify, I would never mod my console to play romhacks, but I appreciate what these communities have done, as they (while illegally) largely contribute to the gaming industry.
I would actually love if Nintendo decided to enter the VR market. Although I haven't been interested in the technology at first, I've tried various headsets since then and now I truly believe VR has a big gaming potential. And I feel Nintendo is a company, that could popularize VR with their unique approach to both hardware and software development.
@Anti-Matter Honestly, as much as I like the gameplay of ARMS, it isn't a game that could ever win any award. In terms of gameplay, character design, stage design, graphics and music, the game is great. But there is no glue to hold all of this together. We rarely get to see the world of ARMS outside of the battles, which is something I hope gets improved in ARMS 2, if they ever make one.
My first ever dream job was making Mario games, actually. I spent countless hours drawing Mario levels on paper and then completing them... also on paper. But when I told my parents that I want to make Mario games when I'm older, they told me that only people owning the license can produce mario games. I still remember how this literally ruined my day and destroyed my dreams and future plans xD.
@Enigk I also think that the presentation was a little underwhelming, but there were definitely some system sellers. The two obvious ones are Smash and Pokémon, but I think even Super Mario Party and Fortnite will sell Switches for many people. At this point they have so many great titles and when they start advertising these along with the new ones, I truly belive they won't have problem with selling the Switches.
I tried the game the day it was released and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It's easy to understand, fun to play and the feeling of danger whenever you hear footsteps or gunshots is something that no other game on the Switch can offer. I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything, but I understand its popularity and I'm happy that I can have have such a well known game on my platform of choice. That being said, I hope Epic will polish the graphics a little bit and adds motion controls. Right now, it feels like the game is in a beta version on the Switch tbh.
I like some of Capcom´s IPs and when there´s a reason to be optimistic, I am. But this is just.....wrong. There´s no reason to get this version over any other one. Since it´s streamed, you can´t take it with you anywhere like other games. I think the idea has a potential. Imagine that there would be a real, traditional, but graphically inferior port of this game. You could play the game normally or by paying an extra fee, you could use the cloud streaming service and get the aesthetically best version (with higher resolution, better framerate and textures,...). That way, ports like this could earn these companies more money as many TV Mode players who have access to a good internet connection would likely pay for the service to get the best experience possible. However, releasing Resident Evil like this will probably make many people unhappy (it already is, look at the official video of the announcement), because portable gaming is a big thing in Japan and by not giving people the option to play a certain game portably (which, by the way, is the main selling point of the console), people will lose interest and not buy the product.
@subpopz I don't think they've officially published sales numbers, but judging by the fact that 1. They never said anything about how the games preformed and 2. Most off the Switch ads have Nintendo made games in the spotlight (Skyrim was shown once or twice, Doom wasn't at all), I'm assuming their titles weren't sales wise even close to the games Nintendo published on the Switch. And it seems that all these big developers are scared by this and also the fact that Nintendo players aren't used to spending money on microtransactions, which play a big role in the overall profit. The thing is that if they did release a well optimized and complete game and advertised it for the Switch as one of the platforms, I think the game would sell very well. But that's just a risk these guys aren't willing to take.
This is a shame really. Not because I would get this game (no single player campaign = no buy), but because it shows how much interest these companies have in terms of making games for the Switch. For some reason, I was certain that now companies will start porting their new AAA games to the Switch. Now it seems that they weren't happy with the sales of Bethesda games on the system and will probably just port their shovelware and maybe some older titles. And that is honestly pretty sad, because these big AAA games could've pushed the hardware sales and made Switch a current Gen competitor.
I really want to get Rayman as it was one of the games I skipped on the Wii U. That being said, the sale is NA only and I'm not creating additional account just to buy one game. So, bring the sale to Europe Ubisoft, pretty please.
You know, I don't hate the idea of borrowing a game's concept and trying to do something unique with it. But when a company does a complete and obvious clone, I don't want to support them even if the game itself is fun.
@Squido While I don't think Splatoon will get a Battle Royale Mode, I don't believe any of your theories will come true either. 1. Yes, we've got confirmations of games with no real materials in the past (most recently Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon at E3), but this only happens to games that are really anticipated or haven't got a new entry in the franchise for a long time. Announcement of Splatoon 3 wouldn't be that exciting for most of the people, since S2 came out just recently. Not to mention, the Splatoon team is still probably working on a new content for Splatoon 2, so it's very unlikely that preparations for a new title had already started. 2. Porting the first Splatoon would be unnecessary extra work for the devs. Most stuff from 1 was brought over to 2, so almost no one would buy the first game when the second one is much superior. The cross play thing wouldn't be impossible, but it is again pretty pointless since Nintendo will probably shut the Wii U servers down in a few years. 3. I could see a Splatoon movie being a reality someday, but certainly not now. The Mario movie is still in the works and they still don't know, whether it's even worth it to invest money into making these movies.
I am actually one of the people that wants to try Fortnite. The strange feeling that you may be shot any second if you´re not careful seems very thrilling and exciting. I also really like the cartoonish art style and the game as a whole just looks fun. So yeah, bring it over. And do it as soon as possible, because this battle royale trend will soon fade out and while I personally don´t care whether the game I´m playing is popular or not, releasing Fortnite too late might not make as much impact as it would when released this year.
Honestly, there´s no way they won´t bring old games in one way or another. This would mean losing a ton of money. Retro games are, unlike with previous systems, extremely marketable. Virtual Console was introduced with the Wii and was featured in every Nintendo console from that point on. It was, hovewer, never advertised as a big feature, because it was incompatible with the selling point (or gimmick, if you want) of that certain device. Let me explain: Wii - motion controls - incompatible 3DS - gaming in 3D - incompatible Wii U - interaction between two screens - incompatible Switch - switching between home and portable console, sharing Joy Cons for multiplayer, different control options - ABSOLUTELY COMPATIBLE Some people say that Nintendo doesn´t want to do VC because their Mini consoles are selling so well. But that simply isn´t true. What does Nintendo want to sell more of - their cheap console where the customer can´t do any purchases besides the actual hardware, or a new 300 dollar mainstream console where they get more money with each new bought game as well as become more recognized as a company? The Mini consoles are only reviving the nostalgia, while Switch has the potential to bring people back to gaming. I mean, if there was a Switch bundle with a lifetime retro pass with access to all of Nintendo´s past games, the demand for the Switch would rise to a whole new level. Nintendo, bring these classics to the Switch and I will support you with all of my money.
I feel that this game's attention and popularity was stolen by Zelda and Mario. Yes, people are still playing it (which explains why it's being regularly updated), but whenever there is a conversation about must own games for the Switch, Splatoon 2 is almost always at the bottom of the list. It's a shame to be honest, this game is crazy fun and even has potential to become a popular esport in my opinion. I'm planning to get this DLC as I have a very bad internet connection at home which means I can't play anything online, so any new single player content is welcome.
I really like Super Mario Run. I bought the full version when it was 50% off and I´m still playing it pretty often. I also sometimes play FEH, Animal Crossing and the Pokémon mobile games but I didn´t spend a single penny on any of these. I just don´t like the idea of constantly paying money just to move forward. And the saddest thing about this is that F2P games are more profitable for Nintendo which means they´re more likely to implement them to more games in the future.
I bought Variety kit on Friday and it's so much fun. So far I've built the RC car, fishing rod and motorcycle. I didn't expect to get such an amount of enjoyment from the building process, but now I feel sad that the making part doesn't take longer. Other than that, I also got the SNES mini as it is finally available for a realistic price. And if I'll have some spare time, I'll probably play more Zelda, Mario+Rabbids, Splatoon 2, Pokken Tournament and other games that I still haven't finished.
@Yorumi There is a new app called Fuze, which introduces newcomers to programming and lets you create simple programs and games. And when Labo was announced, there were people asking if you could can use the Switch's unique features (HD rumble, motion controls and IR camera) and the devs said that yes, you can. This opens more possibilities as you now have actual graphics to work with. So if you're looking for something more in depth, this might be the way to go.

And the saddest thing about this is that F2P games are more profitable for Nintendo which means they´re more likely to implement them to more games in the future.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?
I bought Variety kit on Friday and it's so much fun. So far I've built the RC car, fishing rod and motorcycle. I didn't expect to get such an amount of enjoyment from the building process, but now I feel sad that the making part doesn't take longer. Other than that, I also got the SNES mini as it is finally available for a realistic price. And if I'll have some spare time, I'll probably play more Zelda, Mario+Rabbids, Splatoon 2, Pokken Tournament and other games that I still haven't finished.
Re: Site News: So, Where's Our Nintendo Labo Review?
@Yorumi There is a new app called Fuze, which introduces newcomers to programming and lets you create simple programs and games. And when Labo was announced, there were people asking if you could can use the Switch's unique features (HD rumble, motion controls and IR camera) and the devs said that yes, you can. This opens more possibilities as you now have actual graphics to work with. So if you're looking for something more in depth, this might be the way to go.
