@Anti-Matter That is to be expected. Offering multiple choices would cater to both groups of people instead of one. I'm sure some people will like it, but unless they try to bring in a big user base then this is just going to fail like the Wii U. Offering multiple options would allow them to bring in traditional console users and mobile users.
@BiasedSonyFan Then they can enjoy bankruptcy when their second console fails. But that isn't true, every decision Nintendo makes is most definitely a business decision.
@BiasedSonyFan No, it would not be pointless. It would sell to a different target audience, a different demographic, and at very little development cost to the company. As I said earlier I'm not buying the switch. They aren't getting my money, that's a loss for Nintendo. However, if they took all the guts of the switch, put it in a static box and sold it as a second option along side the switch, I would buy it and they would get my money. The switch doesn't appear to have anything special that actually even requires the mobile device like the Wii U did. It's just one screen or the other.
So there is no reason not to offer both options, one being cheaper and not portable and the other being more expensive and portable. They are just going to lose sales if they do not offer both options. If they don't offer the second option sooner rather than later they will lose it permanently because I'm not interested in buying an aging console when they finally do decide to do it.
@BiasedSonyFan Because not everybody wants a mobile platform or is willing to pay extra for the hardware that will sit in the dock forever and never get used. If Nintendo wants to shoehorn themselves into this one format well, it's just going to be another failure.
Yes, this is exactly what they need to do. Not everyone wants to spend extra on a screen they will never use. They should offer both versions right from the start so people can choose their features and price. It should come packaged with a pro controller and play all the same games, just no screen, no battery, no joy con, and no mobility.
They shouldn't wait either. They should do this from the beginning. Don't sell the switch for a few years and then add it to the line, do it in march! Delaying the micro-console version will only ensure it's remains niche and doesn't catch on. I don't want the Switch and won't be buying it. If they do a micro console, I might, but if it comes years later when the console is aging, I won't bother. So release it at the same time or I'm out and Nintendo is dead to me.
Not only will I miss it, but I won't be buying without it. I can get more powerful single screen consoles and I have no use for mobility, so I guess it's goodbye Nintendo.
Not being backward compatible just means you should wait a year before buying. I mean, the Wii U was backward compatible and it still felt like the game library was too small.
@Captain_Gonru It's definitely not a console, so it must be a portable. It's just a portable that can plug into the TV.
Maybe that is splitting hairs, but I think the emphasis is on portable with some console features rather than the emphasis being on console with some portable features.
@UK-Nintendo Because the Wii U was a great console, people just didn't realize it and it was marketed badly. This isn't even a console at all, it's a portable handheld only really. Jack of all trades and will be a master of none.
@DanteSolablood There would be no need to redesign the controller. The only reason for the joy-con is so it can separate and attach to the screen. If you don't have that screen the pro controller would work just fine, no need for the joycon at all. The pro controller would be the ONLY controller. It is Nintendo's fault that they think this gimmick will work.
As for pre-judging, you want me to waste my money buying the thing before realizing it is crap? What else do you expect?
@DanteSolablood No, if it were a traditional console, the pro controller would be the only controller and it wouldn't be uncomfortable. So it's still additional cost.
@DanteSolablood Ok, but still if it were just a traditional console, I wouldn't have to buy both, just the one, so it still counts as extra cost... unless they are giving away a pro controller with each unit.
@DanteSolablood Because I'd have to buy both the removable controllers and the pro controller with the Switch. The pro controller is the only way I would use this thing, the Joy-Con controller looks terribly uncomfortable. You are also paying more for the screen, whatever this thing costs, it could be cheaper without it and I won't use it, so why do I need it?
Well I just don't see the market for myself. I'd being paying more than necessary for a home console because that home console has a screen that can not be used as a console (like the Wii U) and will never be taken as a portable from my house.
Now if they released an even cheaper version without the screen or removable controllers, just a single box with a pro-controller like a real console that isn't a toy, I might be interested. But as it is the extra cost of all these never-to-be-used features assures I will not be purchasing this one. I've gone ahead and pre-ordered Breath of the Wild on Wii U.
They are trying to send this message of home console gaming on the go, but they are shunning the people who just want a home console.
@sp_initiate-001 The Wii was a superior selling system and they wanted to cash in. They didn't try to copy the Wii U and it's doubtful this will end up better.
@gcunit If it could, you would think they would have showed that in the video. It seems strange that they wouldn't. Also the Breath of the Wild demo had no second screen map. The evidence is against it.
Nintendo Switch.. we took the Wii U, removed the touch screen, dual screen play, motion controls and made the controllers detachable and we will sell it to you as a good thing - Nintendo.
Every time someone in the video went to the TV, they had to plug in the screen. I'm going to be incredibly disappointed if they have 2 screens but can only use one at a time.
@JohnnyC Pokemon isn't Nintendo, nor is it the highest profile franchise on the Nintendo systems. The Mario franchise has almost double the game sales of Pokemon and if you discount everything but the "Super Mario" sub-franchise (such as Mario Kart, Party, Golf, etc), Pokemon still loses.
I can understand the concern of driving while playing, but in Texas where everything is so spread out that you can't possibly walk between them, not allowing a passenger to do what they want will end the game here.
I'm ok with this rumored idea as long as it can still maintain second screen gaming. I would think if it can connect to the TV with a wireless dongle, it should be able to behave much like the Wii U in that regard.
PSA: If you get one of these cards, the 'Q' looks like an 'O'. The printing is really bad and there is no tail on the 'Q'. Turns out both of my incorrect codes had Q not O.
I went and got cards for both my games from Gamestop, but they aren't working at the moment. Maybe Ninty is just being slow with turning them on, but I tried 2 of them and neither would work.
People are talking like NX is going to be the replacement for the 3DS. This article implies the same thing.
I can tell you now, that isn't going to happen. At the likely cost of the NX, parents will not buy multiple NX units for their multiple children and Nintendo is not likely to abandon the multiple child household by not following up on the 3DS line with something new and relatively inexpensive for the handheld market.
Streetpass on NX would certainly be a nice thing to have, in addition to whatever replaces the 3DS.
So in other words... buy the cartridge. I filled up enough of my memory card with Pokemon Y. Only got that one because it was a free club Nintendo deal (though it did get me hooked)
@Phil_Kavadias It's hacked. You can't trade legitimate ones through GTS. As far as I know, any Mythical with a blue star cannot be traded through GTS to date. If you look at their badges you should see a special one for event pokemon which prohibits that kind of trade.
I don't want a retro 2D Metroid, I want a 2.5D Metroid. Take inspiration from New Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong Country and add in the Metroid weapon/armor/level design flavor. That is what I want.
I learned my lesson with the Wii U, I won't be going buying the NX till it's been on the market for a few years and has some games. It's a shame, the Wii U is the best console on the market, people are just too blind to see it.
@siavm That makes no sense. If phone sales are down, then people aren't buying their phones. If people aren't buying their phones, nobody is going to buy an extra device to use the phone they aren't buying. I doubt that is their reasoning for this.
@crazycrazydave It's not likely to be mirrored by Android companies. It's more likely you will start seeing Android phones advertising that they still have a headphone jack. Basically Apple is creating advertising for Android Phones with this move.
Yep, I've bought my last Apple product. Android is the future. (FYI: All of my last 5 phones were iPhones, I'm currently using an iPhone 6 and that will be it)

Re: Fans "Shouldn't Assume" That The Nintendo Switch Reveal Trailer Features "Actual Game Footage"
I don't know why people find this so surprising. They did the same thing for the Wii U and Wii, and probably others.
You can't actually record somebody playing the game this way. Glare and other camera issues prohibit it.
Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch May Divide Opinion, But It's Made a Splash
@Captain_Gonru But by that sizing guideline, a 10" iPad would not be considered portable.

@Artemis that and you can play dual screen on the Wii U, this doesn't appear to have that.
Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming
@3MonthBeef
No they didn't. The 4 buttons on the left controller are the dpad.
Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming
@Cesco Nope. From what I've seen so far the Wii U is superior in design.
