Re: Editorial: The Wii U Has Been Nintendo's Lowest Selling Home Console; It Deserved Better

Alshain01

@Turbo857 Not according to Nintendo, they are continuing the 3DS line. It would be incredibly foolish of them not to as they would be killing key demographics. The switch is not and will never be a replacement for the 3DS. It's too expensive, I can tell you that and I don't even know its cost. The 3DS is most often purchased for kids, and multiple units for each household. If they attempted to use the switch to replace the 3DS, Nintendo would be completely abandoned for tablets and smartphones.

Re: Editorial: The Wii U Has Been Nintendo's Lowest Selling Home Console; It Deserved Better

Alshain01

@Turbo857 The main problem with the switch is it is trying to be two things and will excellent at neither. Most of those that want a portable, want a cheap one, and will go with the 3DS. Most those that want a home console are going to want either a powerful one and will go with XBox or Playstation, or would want a unique one and would have preferred something more like Wii U. The small subset in between the ven diagram that want a portable home console will the likely switch buyers, I don't see how the Switch can be Nintendo's savior with that little group.

As a home console user, I don't want a mobile device, and I don't want to pay for a bunch of hardware I will never use, like a battery and a screen that can only be used while mobile. So, I am not likely to buy a Switch even though I own a Wii U. Without even knowing the price I know it's going to be too expensive for it's abilities if I just ignore the fact it can go mobile, since I won't use that feature.

Re: Looks Like Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About The Wii U's Failure

Alshain01

@LetsGoRetro The Legend of Zelda is not a 2d platformer. Pikmin, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Bayonetta, all the best games for the Wii U are not 2d platformers. Do you even own a Wii U? Because by that comment it sounds like you don't. In fact I would say 2d platformers are probably where the Wii U doesn't shine, because you don't need a second screen for that. Most other genres are where it gets strong.

Re: Talking Point: A New Nintendo 3DS Price Drop Can Prolong the Portable's Lifespan

Alshain01

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think the Wii U was too expensive to manufacture. Ultimately that was it's downfall, Nintendo was probably already taking a loss on it.

I think the streaming video had two wireless communication transceivers alone, then you add internet wifi and infrared and camera and the screen and the battery and the wireless for other controllers, the NFC reader, it adds up quickly.

That thing had so many freaking radio transceivers in it, it's a wonder it was ever as cheap as it was.

Re: Budget New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced for North America

Alshain01

@AVahne Most of that is either irrelevant or subjective. Build quality, better 3D, and comfort of use is all subjective. Build quality doesn't really matter if you already own one anyway. Load times aren't really all that relevant, they are quite fast on the 3DS so saving 0.5 seconds isn't going to net you much. So all your really get is the ability to play the very incredibly small list of "New 3DS" exclusives and the SNES games on the VC.

That's not much at all to pay $100 for, and you would be losing screen size. Like I said, not much incentive to upgrade at all. Your definition of "cheap" and mine are clearly different, because $100 is a lot money and there is no reason for me to upgrade when my ALBW 3DSXL still works just fine for everything I want to play, including Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Re: Feature: Catch Up With the Animal Crossing Direct and New Leaf's Fresh Features

So I just jumped in and the campground is there, no amiibo necessary, and I was able to visit with Pave and buy a few exclusive items using the new coupons (FYI: These items to appear in the Catalog, but can not be re-ordered). The campground entrance itself appears in the mountain wall, where ever that may be in your town. Unfortunately it wasn't a great place, I'm going to have to demolish a wind turnbine and redecorate a bit. I ordered the new secret store room from Tom Nook (more loans, yay), and well that is all I have found so far.

Re: Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct Airs Tomorrow

Alshain01

@Barbiegurl777 Restarting isn't hard. I did it on purpose in August and it goes a heck of a lot faster the second time. I need one more fashion check from Gracie and the fortune teller shop and my entire main street and all non-demolish-able building will be done, and my house is done. I've also almost finished the museum, though starting in August would have been better for that.

Re: Gallery: Check Out These Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Mock Ups

Alshain01

@bakayoshi Oh ok, I didn't mean any offense by that, I hope you didn't take it that way. I just think there could have been a little more like you did with the StarFox over the buttons. You could have had the Triforce over the D-pad-replacement buttons for example. Maybe I'm just too big a Zelda fan

Re: Mythical Pokémon Genesect Confirmed for Anniversary Distribution in November

Alshain01

@-DG Meloetta is coming in December and will be a download. The article makes it sound like this was a new confirmation of Genesect, but the details for the whole year, including distribution method, were actually published back in February.

My hope is that they are doing this one by code so they can do Diancie by download, because that is the only mythical they haven't done this year (at least here in NA)

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards To Boast 16GB "Standard" Capacity

Alshain01

@BiasedSonyFan He meant Nvidia Tegra X1, not XBox One.

And no, it is not a fact that it is more powerful than the Wii U until they announce it's specs, it is speculation. The 3X power of the Wii U is an unsubstantiated rumor.

What is a fact is that we don't know how powerful it is. Period. We do know that Nvidia has said it is a custom Tegra, but that could mean more powerful version of the Tegra, but it could also mean Nintendo told Nvidia it had to be cheaper and therefore ended up weaker. We just do not know.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards To Boast 16GB "Standard" Capacity

Alshain01

@DanteSolablood Well I don't know if it's going to be as weak as the Wii U, nobody does, but remember the Wii was basically a repackaged GameCube, so it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility for Nintendo to release a repackaged Wii U. You seem to think it is absurd except for the fact they have done it before. Even more so, the GameCube and Wii U were both a flop, while the Wii was a success. So, I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if it did end up similar to the Wii U in specs in the slightest. We just don't know.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards To Boast 16GB "Standard" Capacity

Alshain01

@DanteSolablood ROFL. So I say "we don't know how powerful it is" and you hear/read "It's less powerful than a commodore 64" and you call me a "Neg", I'm guessing that means negative, but I haven't been negative, at all! Saying we don't know is not the same as saying it's terrible. I just keep my expectations curbed until we know more rather than assuming this thing is going to be made of pure gold and spit fresh baked sugar cookies out of the slot every time I click a button.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards To Boast 16GB "Standard" Capacity

Alshain01

@DanteSolablood Any of the games in the trailer don't count as they are pasted on in post processing, and rumors are rumors but Nvidia said it was a custom Tegra chip. So, there is nothing confirmed leading us to know it's power.

Also, the Wii U has the technical capability of running Unreal 4, it just doesn't have it.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards To Boast 16GB "Standard" Capacity

Alshain01

@DanteSolablood Well, actually Nvidia said it was a custom Tegra chip and we have no idea what that means. As far as we know, it is as powerful as the Wii U, we know nothing more. We know they both can play Breath of the Wild which means they are at least equals.

I would certainly hope it would be more powerful, but knowing Nintendo's history, you can't say that it is.

Re: Talking Point: Imagining a Future Nintendo Switch Budget Spin-Off - A Non-Switching Microconsole

Alshain01

@BiasedSonyFan I hope not as well, if they are smart and offer a non mobile option then they can easily avoid it.

Rest assured the console itself will fail if they only target mobile users. With the system specs it is almost assured to be in the $350 range, that's too expensive to give it the popularity of the 3DS, and in many cases the mobile aspect is undesirable and overly costly to those who want a successor to the Wii U.

If they offer both options, they hit the console demographic and the new hybrid demographic (but not the 3DS demographic) and the thing will have a much better chance of survival.

Even if you want the mobile version, you still want Nintendo to do the micro console version because it makes it a better chance your purchase won't end up like the Wii U.
