@Blizzia Your mistake is assuming that direct currency exchanges work at the consumer level. They don't. They are fine for global trade, but the value of a dollar in relation to a euro says nothing to the average pay rates, cost of living, and general affordability in a given area. Even in the US alone, heck in even in a single state just a 100 miles apart there is a drastic difference in the 'true' value of a dollar.
Even then, none of that takes into account perceived value, which will be up to the individual to decide. Each person wants a different thing from a game console, for example I don't feel the Switch is worth that much because it doesn't have the features I would use, that obviously isn't true for you because you say it is worth every cent. Neither of us is wrong on that, but I won't be buying it till it has had probably 2 price drops.
@DatFunkySmell Ok then. If you think you are hurting my feelings, you aren't.
@CR33D Not even close to the same thing. One is a matter of skill, the other is a matter of sitting around and waiting after getting halfway up a cliffside. There is no way to get better at climbing in the rain other than more stamina.
As your video game predecessor, I would like to say I am not disappointed in those that don't want a hurry up and wait game mechanic. And I am not disappointed in you for wanting games to continue to get better than I had with my Atari 2600 as a child.
@WaxxyOne I'm not saying it's a game breaker or anything. It's just something that could use improvement. Earlier I said a good way to fix the problem without taking away the feature was to make a set bonus that could circumvent it. That way, after collecting the right items, you wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.
@Ballzilla And my suggestion would be the same game experience without portability. It's the same scenario as the 2DS, just catering to people who don't want the portability feature. Just like the 2DS catered to people who didn't want the 3D feature.
@Ballzilla No, the 2DS was a removal of physical hardware. Effectively the device type. It's pretty much the same scenario as I am suggesting. If they could do it with the 2DS, they can do it with the Switch. It's a perfectly feasible option. We aren't talking about separate games here. The home version would play the same carts as the portable one. They play the same way on the Switch in both modes, so all it would be doing is taking away one mode. The game itself would remain unchanged.
@Ballzilla It's pretty much the same scenario actually. A feature that some people don't want and a cheaper option. How is that different from the Switch?
@Ballzilla I'm not necessarily looking for 4k. I don't mind a weaker device, I just don't want to pay for a 4k device and get a Switch, which is what you do when you buy a Switch. I would be perfectly fine with the Switch if they made a second option, the same guts as the Switch, but in a new package without the screen and battery and no ability to go mobile. The lack of expensive components would mean it would be cheaper but it would play all the same games as the Switch. Then I wouldn't feel like I was overpaying for a console.
It's not the fact that it is weaker that is the issue, it's the combination of being weaker and too expensive at the same time. It's just a matter of value, I don't value the Switch at $300.
@Ballzilla The problem, however, is I enjoy Nintendo titles and Nintendo has abandoned the console market. There is nothing on PS4 or XBox that I would buy one for and Nintendo is no longer offering anything for the console market at all.
I want the Nintendo games, I just want them on a console, which Nintendo had decided to abandon entirely. So everyone in that market that has loyal to them has been completely abandoned.
And yes, I meant the original PS4, which is STILL more powerful than the Switch. It may be outdated, but it beats the pants of the Switch. So in terms of pricing, the Switch is excessively overpriced for what it is. You say no one in their right mind would buy a 3 year old console, but if you bought a Switch, you bought at least 6 year old technology, because that's how much power it has compared to other consoles... unless it's a handheld and not a console, as I believe.
@Nintendoforlife That really wouldn't make sense at this point. The people who bought the Wii U version are unlikely to turn around and buy a Switch now just because of framerate issues. It's likely unintentional, but they definitely screwed it up.
@Ballzilla No, I must not agree, and I don't. Being able to use it as a hybrid is worth exactly $0 and multiplayer out of the box is nice, but not worth that much and I'd really just have 2 pro controllers rather than those joycons, so I'm going to be spending more, not less. Also the PS4 comes bundled with games. So if you are trying to compare the two, the switch at a minimum is $340 and that is assuming you DON'T get Zelda, getting only 1-2 Switch. If you opt for Zelda and not 1-2 Switch it's $360. That makes the PS4 $100 cheaper for a much more powerful system.
Ultimately, it's too expensive for what is in the box. If I bought a Switch, it would be permanently docked, never to be removed. It would include at least one pro controller but probably two, and the joycons would go in the trash. So the joycons, the screen, the battery, those are all completely worthless.
@DatFunkySmell Not being condescending, just letting you know if you haven't gone after all the Koroks, you haven't climbed everything. There are a lot of places that the story doesn't take you to.
The rain itself is not a bad mechanic, the sit around and wait is a bad mechanic.
@DatFunkySmell I'm on my second runthrough, this time alone I have 750 Korok seeds. I did Necluda before getting the Zora armor (in fact I just got it a few hours ago). I've gone after every hidden chest that my Shiekah Sensor + detected (Minor spoiler, you can detect chests with Shiekah Sensor+... and it makes the game a heck of a lot easier on rupees). I'm pretty sure you haven't climbed everything, certainly not as much as I have.
@DatFunkySmell Sit around and wait is a bad game mechanic... period. Always has been, always will be. Many have tried it, and it always is terrible. If you think it can always be circumvented, you haven't done a lot of climbing.
@DatFunkySmell Yeah but if it's a particularly steep/long climb you will need to eat a stamina filler several times where not raining you wouldn't have to eat at all. So in those cases it's simpler just to wait on the rain... which is a bad game mechanic. So your solution to the bad game mechanic is worse than the bad game mechanic.
There is simply not enough information about Scorpio to make that determination. Anyone making these kinds of projections now are pulling them out of their ass.
@Ballzilla I have to disagree with that, the cost is expensive for what you get out of the box. It's more expensive than a PS4 but weaker in power. It depends on your usage though. Sure it can go mobile, but it's too way expensive if you don't want to go mobile and have no need for that.
@FullbringIchigo Brand new, but less powerful. Don't compare by age, compare by capability. As I said, the people that view it as too expensive want a console, not a handheld. The problem is, Nintendo chose to replace their console line with this rather than their handheld line. So that leaves a group of people with nothing (current) from Nintendo... at all.
While it may be cool and realistic that Link can't climb in the rain, it's a poor gameplay mechanic. All it does is force you to sit around and wait. That's never good in a game. It could be easily mitigated too. The climber set bonus should have been "surefooted" allowing you to climb in the rain anyway. The stamina bonus is cool, but surpassing the rain would have been better.
The puddle thing is certainly cool, I hadn't noticed that.
@BornInNorway81 Look, you can't have guides without spoilers. It's not possible. If you have a problem with that, don't come here.. or any Nintendo fansite. I didn't come here for weeks after buying BotW.

Farosh: Why Lake Hylia, Floria Falls he flies right under the bridge, much easier to target there.
Dinrall: As long as you need scales, he's pretty easy to hit there in the Drenan Highlands, but it's hard to get above him there if you need his horn. It's easier to jump off the Tabantha bridge and take advantage of the wind he creates and the slow motion bow shot.

Keep in mind that is probably a top price, if you buy in bulk, as Nintendo would, then electronic components get a bit cheaper.

It's a bad game mechanic Nintendo should avoid in the future to make their games better. Try doing some climbing in the game and you will understand.
