@SLIGEACH_EIRE Don't worry, this is hardly a spoiler, especially if you've played Zelda. You are going to be so engrossed in everything else in the game you won't care about the Cuccos.
@yuwarite 15 year old Human maybe. He isn't human. In any case, being short could just be one of his genetic factors, like his left handedness or tendency for being a sleepyhead (both of which are present in BotW). The point is, he has always been depicted as small, originally probably to accent his role as an underdog taking on a giant evil.
@yuwarite Link is always portrayed as either a child of approximately age 8 (OOT, MM, Wind Waker, etc) or a young adult of approximately age 15 (OOT, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild, etc). If he were taller it wouldn't make sense.
@Mainer82 -SPOILERS- There is one in game. There are 5 sets, 4 based on previous Link incarnations are tied to the Amiibo, but there is a Hero of the Wild set which is in game and does not require Amiibo. I won't spoil how to find it.
@Paddle1 Of course he did, but I don't think he expected it to be released for another 2 years than it actually was at that point. That's why it feels so rushed and incomplete... it is. They had to try to get something that would sell out there, even if it was several more years ahead of schedule.
@ProjectCafe He was still involved. They were developing it long before they announced it. However, I think Iwata still believed in the Wii U, I don't think he expected such a quick replacement.
@Baker1000 @LegendOfPokemon Why wouldn't they buy the Wii U. It's a good system, it supports 2 systems worth of back catalog games, and virtual console and e-shop titles. It's also about as cheap now as it is going to be (as a new device that is). It's not surprising people are grabbing up the last ones. Bear in mind these are likely the people that would never pay full price for a Switch (or would have for Wii U, or a Wii, etc). Being on the cutting edge doesn't matter to everyone.
This actually makes a lot of sense in a way. They did unified development for the other 3 platforms for a singular release, they had to go above and beyond to bring it to the Switch. Extra development costs money. Usually one of two things happen, either the new console version goes on sale at the original price while the older versions become cheaper or the company just eats the extra development costs in hopes of simply garnering more sales.
Raising the price is a 3rd approach I've not seen before, but it's not that strange.
@capitalism ROFL. I dare you to find one post that has been snarky toward Nintendo anywhere from me. As for negative, I don't believe Switch is the right approach, so I may have been negative toward that, but not the whole of Nintendo. It seems like you just don't like people who have different views than you and you aren't intelligent enough to make coherent replies so you just like to attack rather than discuss.
@capitalism I don't know what Sony has to do with it but I don't want a mobile device from them either. It doesnt matter how many like or dislike it, you said people were forgetting it was mobile, I said those people don't care that it is mobile. To those people, it's just an overly expensive underpowered console.
Also, one weekend of supposedly record sales (which I'm not convinced of yet) does not make a successful console. We have yet to see if Switch can survive being marketed as a replacement on their console line.
As for other gaming fansites, what are you referring to exactly? My understanding is this is a Nintendo fansite, I am a fan of Nintendo. In fact I've never owned anything other than Nintendo (and PC of course). Are you saying Nintendo life isn't good for people who like Nintendo games? .. or are you saying that being a Nintendo fan means you have to automatically love every idea they have, good or bad?
@capitalism I think the question is, do we want them to do that? Not everybody does. I have no need for a mobile device, the switch would sit in it's dock forever in my house. So that point is moot to a lot of people.
@Crono1973 I think your analogy is a bit lopsided. Locking all saves is more like requiring everyone to have a license to drive because some people suck at it.
I'm not buying a switch anytime soon, but this isn't one of the reasons. If for some reasons as the article says, I were to be departed from a switch I bought in the future AND still possessed the game cart AND bought another switch, that's just a reason to play a great game all over again.
@Captain_Gonru I've been definitely doing the meandering. Exploring, looking for shrines, hunting, cooking, training horses, having fun... I only move on with the story quests when I start getting bored and can't find anything to do without moving to a new area. I suppose I could move on to new areas anyway since this game doesn't care where you go, but a little story mixed in with the rest is just how I like it.
@shadow-wolf Good choice. I don't think this is a spoiler cause anyone would recognize it the moment they entered, but I ran across a shrine today that was basically one of those marble mazes where you tip the maze to move the marble through it. That was another crucial motion controller support.
@shadow-wolf Motion controls work very similar to Wind Waker HD.
Shooting a bow, It should be noted that in this game, Bows do not have Z-Lock auto-aim. They also arc like a real-world bow instead of shooting in a perfect straight line.
Magnesis and Cryosis runes also make good use of motion controls.
Finally simply setting a pin (waypoint marker) on your sheikah slate makes great use of motion as well. You just aim at a distant point that looks interesting and hit a button. I'm actually surprised how well the game filters exactly what I want to target. I have yet to place a pin in the wrong place.
In short, yes I think motion controls are crucial.
The only thing I don't like is the flashing message on the gamepad. It's distracting. They should have an option just to turn the second screen off if it can't be used for anything.
@Anti-Matter In addition to weather as shadow-wolf mentioned, 'fluffy' clouds do cast shadows even on sunny days. I think thats what you see in the 3rd screenshot. It's hard to get identical screenshots.
@Jeremyjones12992 I've seen no marketing, and it's the same price as the Wii U was at launch if you compare the fact that you have to buy a game to use it. The bigger Wii U + Nintendo Land was $349, The Switch + 1-2 Switch will cost... $349.
I haven't played it yet, and I expect good things. But I can tell you my personal score will not be a 10/10 because it doesn't utilize the second screen properly. I still think I will enjoy it, but it won't deserve a perfect score.
@Rontanamo_Bay I actually did enjoy Twilight Princess better the second time on Wii U, but it still earned it's spot deep in my list. It's not a bad game, but it's not remotely close to the greatest in the franchise.
@Rei I believe the charge port is USB-C, which is pretty stark contrast to all the proprietary connectors used in the past.
USB-C is a relatively new standard finalized in 2014 and starting to appear on newer devices that is reversible (similar to the Apple lightning connector) but not directly backward compatible with previous USB variants (though you can buy adapters or dual type cables). The fact it is standard means you do not need a Nintendo charge adapter, any USB-C charge adapter will work. This also allows USB-C spare batteries to be plugged in.
Frankly, it's probably the best improvement the Switch has over previous handhelds.
I can't choose between Wind Waker and OOT for first.
3. Majora's Mask
4. A Link Between Worlds
5. Skyward Sword
6. A Link to the Past
7. Link's Awakening
8. The Legend of Zelda
9. Minish Cap
10. Twilight Princess
@yomanation Oh yes it does matter. If they market it to the home console users then those that prefer mobile will tune it out right away. Those that prefer home consoles will dismiss it as under powered and expensive.
Marketing is very important, never ever think that it isn't. There are entire professions that revolve around identifying and properly targeting marketing demographics. Nintendo just doesn't seem to employ any of them.
@yomanation One small problem, that is not literally or figuratively my argument at all. My argument is the opposite of yours. They did not need to consolidate because doing so will NEVER produce a good product, Switch or otherwise. It's a jack of all trades and a master of none. If they want to shut down 1/2 of their product lines, that's different. Focus entirely on mobile or entirely on console, don't try to do both and especially not both at the same time. This attempts to please both markets and will result in pleasing neither.
@yomanation Lol, I'm not the one with Nintendo fanboy blinders on here. And you call me narrow sighted. Sorry but if you are going to result to insults, and bad insults at that, I'm not going to discuss this any further. I prefer intelligent discussions.
@yomanation I think you are confused. They have not ended the 3DS and have been vehemently claiming the opposite. They still have two platforms. Discontinuing consoles, maintaining two competing handhelds, and then claiming they haven't isn't going to have a higher quality or quantity game. Your arguments make no sense. It's a bad move.
@KirbyTheVampire Is it really that different from how they handled the Wii U? Small number of launch games, bad marketing, underpowered, doesn't compete with tablets and phones, doesn't compete with other dedicated gaming devices, small amount of internal storage, too expensive.
@yomanation Based on what information did you come to that conclusion? It honestly makes no sense, modern game development has nothing to do with the number of systems you have.
As for being a wise decision, that remains to be seen. They have hedged all their bets now. With the Wii U, the company still had the 3DS to fall back on, but the 3DS is aging now. Even keeping the 3DS alive will not help them if the Switch fails. If it does, it could damage the company significantly especially after the beating they took on the Wii U. Like I said, all their eggs in one basket.
Essentially what they have done is pull out of the console market entirely. The switch will not appeal to people just wanting a console. It's too expensive and too underpowered for that. It's a mobile, but they are marketing it as a console, which is similar to the mis-marketing mistakes they made with the Wii U.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don't know that they will give it a 10, it will likely lose some due to not being 1080p. Not much, but a perfect score is not likely to happen.
@electrolite77 When they ask for AAA games, they mean at the same time or close to the same time as it gets everywhere else. Not games that are as much as 10 years old. Don't get me wrong, Terraria is a great game, but the majority who are going to buy it have already bought it. World of Goo, yep that's a great game too, but it's almost 10 years old and everyone has it already. Just a cursory look at that list and there are a large number of those there.

Not at all surprising for Japan. I suppose good news is good news though.

Save file editing is a big issue in some games, in Pokemon it's a massive problem where people bring hacked pokemon into competitive tournaments.
In some cases this seems like a good thing.
