I said it before and I’ll say it again - 007 First Light is an absolutely fantastic game. If it had a new game plus available (it’s in development) it would likely be my game of the year. It’s a close tie with RE9 and Mina the Hollower right now…
Anyway, I have my fingers crossed it runs as smooth as a martini being poured through a Hawthorne strainer.
I’m cautiously optimistic given how Hitman 3 / World of Assassination runs. Stay patient, it’s almost ready!
I already have it on 360 (launch), PC, and PC (remastered). Am I diving in a 4th time? I'm not sure but I'm glad its running well on Switch 2! Glad it's also all on cart as others mentioned. Especially with storage prices being where they are, it's nice to not have to worry. Just plug n' play.
It's a co-op third person action adventure RPG. It came out in 2011. I have it on PC but I think it was released on 360 and PS3 as well. It's just OK. It doesn't have the same status as Two Towers or Return of the King.
It's not the turn based RPG game (Third Age) or RTS (Battle for Middle Earth). There was also a mutliplayer game in the 360 era called Conquest. I remember there was a demo and it honestly was very fun. I think could play as various creatures, in battle, and was basically a bit like Battlefield's Conquest mode.
I think that could be a fun remaster in 2026. Not every multiplayer game needs to be a live service / sign my life away commitment.
I don't love the Pro Controller but it looks nice for the collectors. I really like the console, at least from what I can see but its hard to tell from the leak.
I mentioned in this in the previous leak article, I would buy this console if I didn't have a Switch 2. Already owning a Switch 2, I'm not compelled enough to buy this just to collect, or to go through the hassle of selling my current Switch 2 to swap to this version.
That's unlikely that this version avoids that issue. It's an issue of the original engine, which this game runs on. As far as I understood, the team went into to solve "some" bugs but I don't believe they solved every issue.
Sam was also in Peaky Blinders, and I had really enjoyed his performance there as Chester Campbell, an antagonist to Tommy Shelby.
I could see him in a wide range of roles. Given the cast by comparison so far is extremely young, I do believe he will play an older, more wise character in the film.
"If Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Capcom’s swan song for 2026 — notwithstanding the updated and new-to-Switch-2 Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen in October"
They also pumped out Resident Evil Requiem AND Pragmata this year. We got a whole FLOCK.
Orbitals could be really interesting considering it's a Switch 2 exclusive and definitely has a lot going for it. I suspect it and Switch Sports Resort will be the highlight of the show since they're super accessible games.
I loved Bond but still waiting on NG+ and more content. I hope the port is good for those who can't play it elsewhere. Curious to see what people think on Switch 2.
I don’t believe this is all that surprising (difficult to port).
The game uses a lot of UE5 engine features that would need to be heavily modified and / or compromised to run on Switch 2.
Keep in mind that the original game heavily relied on contractors / third parties to deliver it. This has been widely reported on and Expedition 33 hasn’t been developed by the ~30 employees alone at Sandfall.
It’s possible they don’t have the bandwidth internally to develop the port, which is OK, but all things considered, it should be doable. There is no clear road blocker. Especially considering it runs on Series S.
Maybe they can’t negotiate a good deal anymore with the original contractors or third parties since the game has been a runaway success. Maybe they can’t afford the time to oversee when they’re in pre-production or production on another title. Who knows, and it’s above my pay grade.
All I can say is that there is enough supporting info that identifies this game is feasible to run on Switch 2 considering the performance of game itself on other platforms, the tech powering it, and what so many other developers have done to get modern AAA games running on Switch 2.
I’m definitely interested in the game, but personally JRPGs aren’t my favourite due to their complexity. My limit is Paper Mario series since it’s very… accessible. I think when it goes on a better sale, I’ll pick it up on PC but it’s a lower priority.
If and when a Switch 2 port comes, I may play there instead. TBD. Cautiously optimistic.
It's been the most successful strategy for them so far. While I agree they shouldnt just do annual releases forever, I do think the next 5 years they have lots of opportunity without fatiguing players.
Veronica, RE1, RE10, RE5.
People may forget that over the past 10 years, Capcom tried not once, not twice, but THREE times to make RE into a multiplayer game. Re:Verse was absolute trash, it was bundled with Village and now no one remembers (for good reason).
Where to go beyond the next 5 years is more concerning for me. I dont see how remakes will be sustainable as others mentioned. There wont be anymore good games to remake! Unless they go for Revelations, but still, I'd rather they divest into other NEW entries and expand upon other ones.
Why not do another add-on for RE4 Remake? If all the games are usually a very similar pipleline, it should be feasible to enhance previously remade games or expand further.
This is the one game I regret NOT buying on GameCube. I loved all the Mario sports games. This and Strikers I’ve never bought, only skipping Strikers because a friend owned it and we exhausted the game.
I may have tried Superstar Baseball but I don’t recall but I do recall I was super hyped for it when it came out (I love the sport).
I’m not sure why you’re bringing up Dead Cells, a game I didn’t mention and insinuating I lack the understanding.
If the developers are not prioritizing 60 FPS for a 2D game on all platforms, they need to reassess their tech, pipeline, and control measures. As many others mentioned, 60fps has been a standard for years on much older platforms. There is no excuse.
Hopefully the port is well. In the midst of Sony (and eventually Microsoft) going all digital, and knowing MGS4 is locked to PS3, this should be a win for physical media enthusiasts.
I just have the basic subscription. I don't touch many of the retro games because I have a SNES Classic. I'd consider the upgrade to the expansion pass if there were more, higher quality GC games. The N64 games don't particularly appeal to me, I've played many of them before and I know they don't hold up well relative to the baseline of games today (smooth, consistent perf).
Gamecube has a wide library and I'd love to see some more games come there. Whether Nintendo first party OR third party.
The only reason I have the basic sub is for some online play, like Mario Kart, and I like to have cloud saves. A shame cloud saves are behind a paywall but the subscription is super cheap ($30 CAD annual?)
Really enjoying Battlefield 6, no matter how much hate it gets. It’s as close to old BF as possible. Next week they’re adding naval combat, a new (largest) map, boats, and a variety of other things. Later they’re bringing back Wake Island and Air Carrier modes.
It’s my comfort food at the moment.
I needed a break after all the single player games I’ve been playing back to back this year. RE, Pragmata, 007, Mina.
I’m not sure I’ll play much or anything this weekend. Even if it’s scorching, I do like to enjoy my summer outdoors before it returns to darkness.
If I do play this weekend, I may return back to Mina or play a couple runs of Star Fox.
What’s for certain is that I like this weekend ritual of reading what’s being played here and the positive vibes from the community. It’s my favourite feature from NL.
I waited a few days, to play a few runs, and sit on it before I voted.
I think Corneria is the most iconic, it offers such a great introduction, and really makes you feel for the pending doom from Andross. That being said, after a few playthroughs, and because you MUST play it every time, it’s a bit long in the tooth.
Now that I’ve got to Venom and Venom 2 twice, I think I can say my favourite is Area 6. It just SO epic. I love how the crocodile enemy commander is so cocky but as you progress, passing lines of defence like a hot knife through butter, he begins to panic, and unleashes a boss that is quite challenging. You also have a goal of 300 enemies to destroy, making this level just cranked out to the max.
I love so many levels in this game. I can’t believe I haven’t played this since N64 and it all came back but felt new and fresh at the same time.
Really enjoying the game and as of today, Area 6 stands as my favourite level!
Mina the Hollower may be my GotY, rising above Requiem and 007, but it will have to wait this weekend because General Pepper needs the help of Star Fox.
It was an ad-hoc physical edition purchase to maximize a Best Buy gift card and I have no regrets.
I’ve been training a lot this summer for a sporting event and my routine usually gets me up pretty early. Usually 5am. This morning was a rest day but my body didn’t get the memo to sleep in. So I booted up Star Fox around 5:30 and played in bed until the sun was shining. I took the Meteo route for my first play and I’ve made it to the level (Macbeth) with the train, land master before I paused.
Wow! This game brings back the memories! I’m having a great time and I appreciate all the little details. I love the new cinematics and how the characters deliberate before leaning towards Fox to choose a direction. I’m also SO happy they kept first person, cockpit view. It’s my favourite way to play, really increasing the immersion. It’s too bad the landmaster doesn’t have a Battlefield style tank view but the Arwing is… just glorious.
I’ve kept the inverted controls and it’s so fun to have an arcade style jet fighter game. I really enjoy trying to get the medals, it’s fairly difficult and I’ve already had Slippy get cooked (literally) on the lava level.
While I can’t help but be disappointed this game is a remake of Star Fox 64, it also is easily, by far, the best way to play Star Fox.
I also tried a solo match, multiplayer arena battle against bots. Honestly, not bad! I could see playing online getting a bit sweaty. I think this game will be best played in co-op and I wish it had online co-op. I think it would have been icing on the cake.
Highly, highly recommend if you’re looking to scratch that Star Fox / arcade itch.
If you’re new to Star Fox (64), I’d suggest watching a playthrough from your preferred YouTuber. If after one run you want to play it, you’ll probably enjoy the structure. If you’re not sure and think it’s more of a one and done, I’d just watch the playthrough and move on.
Overall, great game and I hope others are enjoying it as much as I have for the 1hr or so I have played!
I see lots of support for Bethesda, and yes, lets be happy a physical edition is coming, I just think it would be wise to wait and see how this port plays out.
I have it on PC, my PC is fairly high end, and it struggles to maintain 60fps. I booted it up last week and after playing for about 30 seconds, it froze my system.
I say this with love. It’s one of my favourite RPGs, so I feel I am extremely lenient of the core engine (gamebryo) performance issues. Be prepared for this game to struggle on Switch 2. I strongly suggest dialling back expectations. This won’t be as strong as Skyrim or Fallout 4, that run on an updated engine (Creation). Oblivion Remastered is essentially 2006’s Oblivion being fed through Unreal Engine 5, for better or worse. If you were there on Xbox 360 or PS3 20 years ago, I think you’ll be fine. For the newer generation, buckle up. It’s janky and you may want to see how Switch 2 manages the jank.
I love Oblivion so much, I’d consider double dipping on the remaster IF there are cross-saves, but that’s a big IF and the game needs some updates.
That’s a tough one. I am split between Requiem and Mina.
On one hand, Requiem is not the best on Switch 2 (compared to other platforms) and I think it’s the least replayable RE in quite sometime. Middle section is rough, a slog. However, the gameplay is… just sublime and you can’t underestimate how fun it is to play it in handheld mode, late at night with headphones. It’s a fantastic game but a few faults. Can’t believe how well it looks on Switch 2. It’s one of those miracle ports.
On the other hand, Mina the Hollow is EXACTLY the type of game and experience that thrives on Switch 2 (or your handheld of your choice). It scratches that itch I’ve had for quite some time. A new GBC/GBA Zelda adventure. With it running at 120fps, and that classic 8-bit art style, it just hits so well.
On the technical merits, Resident Evil Requiem is the more impressive game but I am enjoying Mina so much, I think it’s my Switch 2 GotY (so far).
Mina the Hollower has still got her little claws burrowed into my Switch 2. I’ve now beat a second area / dungeon and clocked around 10 hours.
Beyond Mina, I’ve gone back to Battlefield 6 on PC. They’ve added this new variant of Rush mode, the one pioneered from Bad Company. I believe the new mode is called Obliteration*. At least, I think it’s called that because I have the hardest time reading the main menu, there are so many things on the screen it hurts my eyes. Anyway, in this “mode” you find the bomb on the map and only the carrier of the bomb can plant it at a M-COM station. It’s also symmetrical. Both teams have to attack and defend, and who ever has the bomb and is spotted is made visible to all players.
It’s almost like Battlefield Capture the Flag and Rush had an explosive little baby I think it’s one of the best new modes since Rush in fact. It plays very well on the large maps because everyone is drawn to the bomb carrier, it gives all players a common primary objective. As well as the strategy to try and anticipate where the attack may steer towards one of your bases. Or how you can help escort the bomb by providing vehicle support, suppression assistance, or just getting creative with the environment.
Seriously, if you liked older BF games and skipped all the recent entries, you’ll likely enjoy BF6. It’s also 50% off and in my view, more than worth it at that price.
It’s likely a facade (sun shading) system that extends over a curtain wall glazing system. In other words, those square shapes are not the size of a floor. It’s quite fun because I assume they’re meant to be pixels.
I didn’t calculate it but if you total up the vertical squares and divide by 9 (floors above grade) you should be able to identify how many squares per floor. It’s probably in the range of 2 to 3*.

That's unlikely that this version avoids that issue. It's an issue of the original engine, which this game runs on. As far as I understood, the team went into to solve "some" bugs but I don't believe they solved every issue.
Hence the remaster title to temper expectations.

Definitly think others are onto something. A Zelda direct (Zelda Movie + OoT remake) in September seems likely.
Like the Star Fox one. 15mns. I don't see them putting both Zelda and OoT in a 1hr direct. It will overshadow all the other announcements IMO.

30 FPS isn’t good enough for a 2D platformer, especially a Metroidvania. If Dread can run at 60fps on Switch 1, there is no excuse.

Re: Review: Rhythm Heaven Groove (Switch) - A Low-Key Swansong And Perfect Mic-Drop For Switch 1
Very nice. Enjoyed the demo, first time playing a game from this series. I thought it was one of the highlights from the last Direct.
Looking forward to grabbing this in the future.
Re: What Does The Upcoming Switch 2 Revision Actually Do?
8 of 12. Not terrible but no chance at the leaderboard this month.
Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Launches August, Physical Edition Confirmed
Everyone here talking about cartridges... did anyone watch that trailer!? It's GOLD!
Re: Poll: What's Your Switch 2 Game Of The Year So Far?
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Diddy Kong Racing
NA/EU. Nostalgia and lightning ⚡️
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th June)
I hope this game comes to Switch 2 one day.

@KingMike
Yes… rub the salt more into the wound 😂
Re: Quiz: Can You Tell These N64 Games From The Mangled Box Art?
That was tough! Admittedly I made some amateur mistakes. Of course that’s Yoshi’s Story. There is no Island for N64. Derp.

Re: Nintendo Announces The Construction Of A New ¥121 Billion R&D Center In Japan
@GravyThief
Re: Nintendo Announces The Construction Of A New ¥121 Billion R&D Center In Japan
Approx $1,411 USD / SF (2.4M ¥ / m2) to deliver.
Gat damn. Don’t underestimate its brutalist facade. They’re sparing no expense here.
