Keen to get their foot in the door of the shooter genre, Nintendo has announced an indie-developer third person shooter for the European 3DS eShop.
Not much is currently known about IronFall Invasion, but the developer VD-dev has been posting screenshots of the game since September last year. The game takes heavy inspiration from titles such as the Gears of War franchise with its third-person perspective and quick time-esque reloading mechanism. The game makes use of the New 3DS and New 3DS XL's C-Stick to achieve a control scheme you would expect, but it can still be played on any 3DS or 2DS system.
The game promises 6-player online and local multiplayer as well as an extensive single-player campaign. Shooters have been relatively absent from the 3DS, most likely due to the limitations of only have the single circle pad, but now that the C-Stick is a reality will this game pave the way for more shooters on the handheld? Only time will tell.

Very happy this is coming. I loved Revelations and software like this gives the system much more balance. As much as I love 3D Land and co, shooters are lots of fun too.
Beyond glad to finally see this coming I was afraid it was cancelled since they haven't said anything about it in a while. Cant wait to get my hands on this.
Finally!! I thought this game was dead!
I wish it had a physical version tho for the people who don't like digital download.
Never heard about this one before but it looks surprisingly decent so far
I don't want to judge it too much as I enjoy the genre but what looks a bit like a crap third person shooter isn't a strong end to a Direct
I was quite amazed when they said this was done by three people. Very impressive!!
Really surprised they didn't silently drop the project. From what the trailer showed, the visuals are surprisingly colorful. But I'm a really brutal judge when it comes to shooters, so I'll let them surprise me about the gameplay - especially the balancing.
Also, should the headline really emphasize the "New 3DS" part? It's not an N3DS-exclusive, after all.
Really pleased to see this make a return. The 3DS (and Wii U) are badly in need of some shooty action, and with some online, this sounds like a blast, plus, it looks downright incredible as a 3DS game.
I wish it had a physical release, but whatever, I'm still planning on getting it. Hope it uses the Circle Pad pro.
nice to see this still exsists lol
It has online?! Last I heard the developer had ruled that out due to the investment needed. I guess we now know why the game disappeared off of the radar for so long.
Whoo, finally a fps shooter on the 3ds !
@dwuuuu It's third person, not first person.
The character models look similar to the ones used in Multiplayer Halo
Gears of Halo: Modern Titanfall 3.
No thanks.
hm too bad i wont be getting the new 3ds. and i freaking hate touchscreen aiming. maybe there is another good control method
Splatoon is coming so... I think I won't need another shooter in a long time
if the price is right i'll be sure to purchase!!
Maybe. It depends on if they're able to get things right with a title like this. It also depends on whether or not I decide to pick up a New 3DS.
@Ralizah
Those are all very different games.
I've been waiting for this game since 2012.
So happy! hyped up! day one buy
What a Direct it was! I've been playing Revelations Raid Mode a lot since I received my n3ds, the super-stable 3d works great, making the gyro-aiming a fun, immersive addition now. Maybe they can implement it as well?
@Shambo I sure hope, that they would add gyro option.
I love touch screen aiming, but not every one have thumb straps anymore, and Gyro is always with you. I have started to like gyro more anyway.
Glad this isn't cancelled, hadn't heard much about it in a while
Also glad this is still on track. There are way to few action games for 3DS. It's a genre I like, and many of the ones that have been released have worked really well. I also really really hope this will have single-cart (or single download, I guess) multiplayer. Would be soo awesome to try that multiplayer. I might be able to get six persons with 3DS:es together, but without such a mode I won't get all of them to have the game...
@Imerion You could just play online...
This team made the fantastic GBA version of V-Rally 3. I look forward to this game.
@TimeGuy Sure, but I'm not really fond of playing online. I find it much more fun to play together with friends in the same room.
@ecco6t9 I remember playing and really liking that. Indeed very impressive for it's hardware.
Looks fun.
I'm just suprised it running on a 3ds. This game looks very impressive.
YES!
Damn! I'm getting this! but I really want a Physical Retail Release
Must. have. this.
i was amazed with the gameplay trailer, looks amazing coming from an indie company, might buy it
Star Wars Battlefront would make me buy a 'New' 3DS in a second.
Looks nice, handhelds are sorely missing FPS worth playing, though it would be naive to think this could open the floodgates I hope we see a couple more games of that genre.
this looks awesome but if it doesnt support the circle pad pro i'm going to be pissed. i was going to preorder the monster hunter new 3ds but u have to buy it now and give up your old 3ds for the discount now. a month before it comes out!! how the hell do u do a system transfer if u give them your old 3ds a month before u get your new one???!!! what a load of crap.
Definitely purchasing. Platformers and JRPGs are cool and all, but seeing something like this on 3DS is neat.
I've known about this game for about a year, maybe more. When it came on the Direct, I was like, 'hey this looks like Iron Fall!' - and thankfully it was. I thought it may've been canceled. It's even got multiplayer now - last year I'm fairly sure it was said they couldn't do multiplayer because they were such a small team. Perhaps Nintendo were impressed and lent a hand?
Either way, Day 1 for me.
@Quorthon It does! Atleast they said so last year.
