Nintendo of America Outlines Upcoming Q1 eShop Releases
Posted by Thomas Whitehead
There are even dated Wii U eShop titles
Nintendo of America has issued details on a number of upcoming games on the way to North America in the next few months. While there aren't necessarily any real surprises, we have a few solid dates.
The headline news for the Wii U eShop is the confirmed release date of Ron Gilbert's The Cave, a platform adventure title led by one of PC gaming's most revered development figures of the 1990s. Rather than arrive with the rest of the downloads on a Thursday, it'll arrive on 22nd January. Most other releases have vague Q1 dates, but you can't win them all.

Zen Pinball, the Cave and maybe RE: Mercenaries (if it is at a discount, doesn't seem like a full game to me).

Meh. Mildly intrigued by Cave. Problem is - NOTHING else on Wii U horizon excites me at all. Hope 3rd parties surprise us. Would be great to see a Dead Space trilogy or a BioShock Infinite released. Would be awful if we finally have an HD console that has no 3rd party support. The promise of a Zelda or Metroid might just keep me hanging on to my Wii U. Only 3DS one I'm looking forward to is Luigo's Mansion.

Harmoknight?

@MultiMariosonic Who knows, Nintendo didn't mention it, but it doesn't mean it won't make Q1, it just wasn't on this list.

It looks like more launch titles are appearing in the eShop as downloads, that sounds great.

Well shoot. I was hoping for the new Shantae (or the original one) to be released soon.

I'm not a huge pinball fan, but I'll be grabbing all those other Wii U eShop titles. Nice lineup.
On another note, I read an article the other day that mentioned the "EU Wii U eShop". Try saying that out loud a few times.

They're releasing a new Finding Nemo game?

@ueI I've added hyperlinks now, and that Nemo game is from last year, but the publisher's giving it a go as a download.

I'm still curious to see what prices those first three 3rd party retail games will have on the eshop, since they're all currently easy to find for about half their original retail price.

Shame Pinball Arcade isn't in that list; I was hoping it would beat Zen 2 to the eShop.

I'm curius about Ghost Recon's price. If it is good I'll download it instead of getting the retail copy.

WaveBoy said:
is RE: Mercanaries worth getting for $15 retail? Kind of held off since i wanted RE: Revelations to be my first true RE 3DS experience.
#23
ThomasBW84 said:
@DarkCoolEdge - In my view Ghost Recon is fantastic, often and unfortunately overlooked. It'll be interesting to see prices on these older games, and I'm hoping the publisher will go for budget rates.

@ThomasBW84 Totally agree. Awesome game. It was the game I got with my 3DS!

The games I am looking forward to finding out more about are BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien and Toki Tori 2.

Shanksta said:
@WaveBoy it was fun for me since I bought 2 copies to play with my younger brother, but if you're playing by yourself I wouldn't recommend it. It's basically just mercenaries maps and solo gets boring.
#27
PinkSpider said:
Would love to.have mercenaries on the go but its gonna be a stupid price, the retail downloads that are nearly 2 years old should be no more than £15
Theres no way paying £40 for these games.

Pretty dissapointing on the Wii U eshop front, particularly considering the lack of third party support and the number of titles that have been delayed.

They forgot about the Virtual Console games that they'll end up releasing in Q1, all two of them.

For sure I'm getting The Cave, the biggest reason being Ron Gilbert. Plus, videos interested me. Interested in Puddle, but waiting for more info. I already have Zen Pinball on the 3DS, so I'm torn about that one.

Harmo Knight won't be quarter 1? Ugh, my day is friggin' ruined.
Bloody Vampire looks nice, but will probably disappoint.

Windy said:
I think they might be slowing down the releases. So much so fast has been coming out. I love it but it's frustrating at the same time. It makes me a chain gamer which sometimes is not fun. I was also hoping for HarmoKnight and Plan to get Etrian Odyssey on Cartridge when that releases. But these holidays had me being a Downloading fool.....heh Speaking of which I ran out of room on my SDcard today and couldnt download the Fire Emblem Demo. I ran out and got a 16gb card today and im re-downloading all my previous stuff haha

I'm guessing Harmoknight will still come out this quarter. They tend to release eshop titles with little fanfare.
Also glad Shadow Wars is getting a 2nd chance to shine.

@Pikachupwnage Wow, that is the first time that I completely forget a pretty big aspect of a videogame. I never really played it online so I didn't even think about it. I take that back then, its worth it.

Looking forward to Ikachan.
I'm hoping its $5 or less, though.

Windy said:
@KnightRider666 They should be bringing out 5 VC games a week and at least 2 3D classics a month. Gosh all it would do is make them more money Cripes! It cannot be hard to Localise VC games.

KnightRider666 said:
@Windy: I agree with you 100%. I believe the licensing is what makes bringing certain games to us from the past difficult. Look at Earthbound. B/c of the real world music references, Nintendo can't get a VC release to us. Luckily I grabbed a SNES cart off ebay for $120 almost a year ago. It amazes me to see how much it has gone up in value, and how it continues to hold its value.

You don't actually have to redownload everything. If you have a PC with a card reader (or can get a USB card reader; they're cheap) just do this:
Source: Did this myself to make room for 3DS Retail downloads.
Now, if only they'd fix it so DSiWare could run off the card...
