Nintendo Download: 25th October 2012 (Europe)

Heavy Fire and Mighty Bomb Jack make for slim pickings - thank goodness for Layton
Ouch. Not much in the way of downloadable goodness this week, with just three games available - all of which are 3DS-based and one of which is a retail download. Aside from some downloadable videos and a smattering of DLC, there's not much else to report.
3DS Retail Download
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Nintendo, €44.99 / £39.99) — To coincide with the retail release of Layton's next adventure, you can also download the game directly to your 3DS console. Check out our Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask review if you're interested.
3DS Download
Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D (Teyon, €4.99 / £4.49) — An update of the disappointing WiiWare shooter, this action title improves on what has gone before but is still barely worth playing. As we said in our Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D review, "no matter what is bolted to it, the core of this revision remains a bland, anonymous, lowest-common-denominator shooter that leaves no taste behind and ultimately may as well have not even happened".
3DS Virtual Console
Mighty Bomb Jack (Koei Tecmo, €4.99 / £4.49) — Conclusive proof that not all retro classics have stood the test of time, this 8-bit port of the arcade original is a rather painful trip down memory lane. If you need convincing, you can check out our review of the Wii Virtual Console edition of Mighty Bomb Jack.
3DS Downloadable Video
BREAKTHRU Films (€0.99 / £0.89 each) - A brand new selection of videos from Breakthru Films is now available to purchase.
Videos available this week include:
- Fat Hamster
- Little Postman
- Magical Dance
- Papa’s Boy
- Scarecrow
- Spirits of the Piano
- Transformation
3DS Downloadable Content
New Art Academy (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 each) — Learn even more ways to create art with two new add-ons available for New Art Academy this week:
- Pointilism & Textures
- Mixing Paints
Special Offer
Let's Golf 3D sees a limited price drop to just €1.99 / £1.79 - its original price was €6 / £5.40, so that's quite a saving.
Not a lot to get your pulse racing this week, then. Let's get the formality of the poll over with, shall we?
What will you be downloading first this week? (99 votes)
Heavy Fire: Special Operations 3D (3DS eShop)
2%
Mighty Bomb Jack (3DS Virtual Console)
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS Retail Download)

I loved Mighty Bomb Jack back in the day. Might get it, even if it's only for nostalgic reasons.

I've got a physical copy of Layton preordered from shopto.net. I think Mighty Bomb Jack is a much better game than you give it credit for though, and will be quite fun to have on a handheld.

Even though this week is pretty bad overall, I may get Let's Golf, simply because its so cheap and I have a bit of spare money

@Pikachupwnage I'll take the NA software selection these past couple of weeks over a sale any day. No need to be jealous of EU because of one sale.

I'm sorry, you don't know what you're talking about. The NeoGeo is hardly crap or forgettable.

I'm very worried that 17 people who read Nintendolife - people that I would like to think would be knowledgable consumers, are still willing to pay a large amount over the odds for downloadable versions of retail games.
@AlbertoC
Thursdays, but we find out what is coming much earlier (obviously)

I just realized, why is NL referring NES games to their Wii VC review? Is it just a placeholder until they get the 3DS VC review in?
I remember they used to review 3DS VC NES games, on the ground that the experience would be different enough on a portable to Justify a seperate review, but they haven't reviewed any 3DS VC NES games lately (just referring to the Wii VC review).

Nevermind my previous comment. They just put up a 3DS VC review of Mega Man, so referencing the Wii VC review in the 3DS update is probably just a placeholder until they get the 3DS VC review up.

Good offer on Let's Golf, i'd held off getting it before cos i've already got several golf games, but at that price it's definitely worth a go.
Also interested in Mighty Bomb Jack, even though i know it's not supposed to be as good as the original Bomb Jack.

Ended up downloading Speedthru: Potzol's Puzzle earlier as it was on the E-shop at a 25% discount meaning it only cost slightly over £4. Excellent game for that price and I'm already enjoying it infinitely more than the dull, repetitive Pullblox.
