Linkstrikesback commented on Video: See Splatoon's Shiny New H-3 Nozzlenose...:

Weapons are ok, but I don't care enough to boot splatoon to just look at that.

October is the first month where we didn't get a new stage since release, which makes me think development is winding down (if it hasn't already wound down already), or they're saving stuff for a paid update. I hope they're not because that'll fracture the userbase, and I don't play splatoon enough anymore to justify a paid update on top (possibly twice since I also use two wii us...)

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo's UK Store Gives Free eShop Copy of A...:

My email says I have to wait until Tuesday too for the Physical copy, and they only just now dispatched it at about 9:50 this morning.

That's obviously not going to have arrived in time for release date (yesterday), haha. Still no code in my inbox though .

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo's UK Store Gives Free eShop Copy of A...:

They won't be giving you a code now if you order now...

The point of it is "Sorry, we couldn't get your preorder to you on release date, have this in the meantime".

You may well have noticed, if you've looked at a calendar, that the release date was friday , i.e. yesterday. You won't get anything (other than what you buy, obviously) if you order now.

Besides that, I haven't gotten my preorder which I placed a while ago, nor a download code yet >_>. Time for complaining, me thinks.

Linkstrikesback commented on IRONHAX to Use Free-to-Play IRONFALL Invasion ...:

I would love for a free to play game to open the 3DS for playing backups. I really would love to turn some of my retail games into download versions without paying nintendos ridiculous eshop prices (When compared to retail).

Being able to buy a retail cart, back it up and then play it anywhere with me is just so ideal for me for a handheld system. If I have to use a card, I can only take one of my nearly 40 3DS retail games with me. If this works, I can have them all at once (and maybe even my 60+ DS games too!), and it'd be glorious.

Linkstrikesback commented on Feature: Explaining Humble Bundle and What it ...:

"DRM-free downloads, remember. "

No they aren't. Not even close. You get an eshop code that can be used once on one machine. You can then never move it off that one machine (except a transfer which erases it and everything else off the source machine.

That's the very defintion of DRM. Normal humble bundles are DRM free because you can download a .exe and then copy it ad nauseum if you want to a million pc's.

Linkstrikesback commented on Shenmue 3 Could Happen Via A Kickstarter Campa...:

No, it couldn't happen via kickstarter. There is no way they could EVER raise nearly enough money, the dream cast game alone cost 20 million dollars. And of course a current gen game would cost more.
And only 59 kickstarters have ever got over $1million, let alone 20.

Whats with all the blatant clickbait articles nintendolife

Linkstrikesback commented on Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like...:

"What could it look like" vs "what will it look like if it happens" are two very different things.

1) is what we've been seeing for years on dolphin, and is glorious. 2) is the nintendo approach where they put BLOOM EVERYWHERE for no reason (thanks WWHD).

Linkstrikesback commented on Zero Escape Series Creator Considering New Opt...:

He actually said a few days ago that kickstarter probably won't work. Presumably VLR cost a ridiculous amount of money. Very few games hit more than a few 100k, which, with VLRs full voice acting, models, 30+hour single player and excellent OST almost certainly cost more.

I hope it happens someday though.

Linkstrikesback commented on Rumour: 2015 Sonic Title To Hit Wii U Alongsid...:

"Sonic Adventure 3" already happened, twice. They called them "Sonic heroes" and then "Sonic the hedgehog" (a.k.a Sonic 06).
They were both horrible games (just like the originals are by todays standards, they aged terribly).

The only sequels sega should be considering even slightly are "Sonic Colours 2" or "Sonic Generations 2".

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: Have Your Say on Satoru Iwata's Nintendo...:

I'd be excited for DS virtual console on wii u, except for the fact that Nintendo has done an absolutely terrible job with Virtual Console on both the 3DS and Wii U.

At the absolute very best, we get a slightly better slow trickle of games. At worst, this means we get even fewer SNES games. (And we're unlikely to get many of the games I really want, like pokemon/ the world ends with you)

Linkstrikesback commented on Preview: Japanese Gamers Get Their Free Super ...:

We can get free wii points. At the low low price of 4000 stars, i.e. 16 full wii u games/20 full 3ds games, you can get 1000 wii points, i.e. enough for a single N64 game, and they only apply to wii vc or wiiware games. Nothing on 3ds.

Whereas you can get 70 or so coins if you do all the extra things per game, and the downloads cost 150-200 coins, i.e. somewhere between 2 and 3 games.

It's not even close to equal.

Linkstrikesback commented on Fresh 2013 UK Hardware Sales Figures Keep 3DS ...:

Wow, that's enough spin to keep the galaxy orbitting.

A 40% increase yoy for the wii u is absolutely terrible news, given it was on the market for nearly 12 times as long this year. (It launched on the last day of novermber in 2013 in the uk).

And only a 4% increase for 3ds when they dropped the pokebomb (As well as all the other amazing titles this year) isn't reassuring either,

Linkstrikesback commented on Feature: Nintendo Games We'd Love to See in 2014:

Wow, Metroid Prime IV is winning the "favourite from this list" poll at the moment.

Shame it's not going to happen in 2014. Retro took 2 years to put out metroid prime 2 and that was when they already had everything left over from Metroid prime 1 ready to speed up development.

They can't possibly made a Metroid prime 4 properly in around a year after finishing DK Tropical freeze. (Though I would dearly love to be wrong)

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Download: 26th December and 2nd Janua...:

"3DS Virtual Console
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Nintendo, €3.99 / £3.49 until 2nd January 2014, then £3.49/€4.99) "

I presume this is a mistake and that it should be £2.79 like the wii u version, and not that there is no discount on the 3DS version for UK people.

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

A no name site, with no source or proof is your argument?

Lol. So anyone who can make a webpage and put stuff on it is automatically telling the truth. Yeah, no. Show a big site or an interview with a sony employee where they said it, because that is trolling, pulled right out of the arse of that webpage maker to get hits.

Sony announced a ton of stuff long before Microsoft. For those with short memories, they absolutely blindsided Microsoft with the PS4 announcements months before microsoft had anything to say about the xbone. At the time, they said that the strategy they were going to take would be the "one that does right by gamers", or something along those lines. I find it very hard to imagine translating that into restrictive DRM.

Then explain why people aren't buying the Wii U. Either you think Nintendo games have gotten significantly less desirable (i.e. worse), or they have competition. Pick one. Or give a valid third option, but that would contradict what you're already saying.

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

People are buying PS3/4, Xbox 360/ones and smartphones/tablets instead of Nintendo consoles. Therefore Nintendo has competition.

Unless you're suggesting the reason Nintendo sales have fallen through the floor (And are nearly coming out the other side of the planet...) is because Nintendo games have gotten worse, hence no-one wanting to buy them?

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

Well, sony has officially sold more PS4s in a single day just in North America than nintendo has wii u worldwide this entire year.

That about says it all really on how this is going to go down.

If they have the stock, it's quite possible Sony outsells the Wii U by the end of the year

Linkstrikesback commented on Pokémon Bank Pricing Emerges For Europe:

I'm not happy with any pricing over £0 for transferring pokemon. They had better give a 30 day free trial with every new pokemon game that comes out if they do intend this to permanently replace in game generation transfers.

And £4.50 is too much for such a meager amount of storage, but whatever. A fool and his money and all that.

Linkstrikesback commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

All I'm going to say is, if the PS4 doesn't do significantly better than the Wii U is going to, the entire industry is in some serious, serious trouble. If all 3 did about what the wii u is likely to do (say 30m , and that's very generous, since it's more likely to be ~20m) it would mean that roughly 2/3rds of the market just vanished in the course of a single generation.

Linkstrikesback commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multipla...:

I forgot nothing. Wii U is currently doing significantly worse than the gamecube.

At least, those are only US numbers, but it's pretty similar everywhere.

"But if that is your general situation, you should consider changing it."

I should consider dropping out of getting a successful career because of videogames and nintendo being incompetent? I moved to a new university to begin getting a Ph.D last month and everyone I knew went their separate ways. I would dearly love to play New Super Mario Bros U/2 with my friends, but Nintendo won't let me.

"mario game 3+ times and tell me, if there is any challenge left that would make you say "i need to play that game online again" "

It's a little something called "fun". There is something inately fun in being able to play video games with friends, even if you've played it through before. Yes. I would like to "play that game online again" if I was doing it with friends. It's the same as sports: I sure as heck didn't give up playing football because "we've done it before 3+ times".

Coincidentally, This is part of the reason I know no-one else who has bought a wii u. They'd have jumped on it if that meant they could continue to play multiplayer games over the internet, but nintendo is still stuck in the early 90's in regard to the super scary internets.

Linkstrikesback commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multipla...:

@Einherjar That's not a fact, that is something you just made up on the spot.

You must be moderately young still, as real life clearly hasn't hit you yet with the reality that everyone has responsibilities that mean they will eventually be forced to move away from people that they would like to play games with.

I know tens, maybe even a hundred + people I have met that I would LOE to be able to play Mario Multiplayer with. But almost all of them live hundreds of miles away now.

If you really think that "Onlne MP degraded itself to foul mouthing, smack talking, and elitist sub groups and is in no way compareable to a local MP round." I can only presume that your friends don't have an internet connection? Otherwise, either you and your friends are already in one of those groups, or you are wrong.

(Hint, it's probably the fact that you are a short sighted fool, like the people at nintendo making these decisions).

"They'll buy it anyway".

Right, that's exactly why wii u is currently on track to being the biggest failure of a console launch outside of the virtual boy that Nintendo has ever had.

Linkstrikesback commented on Soapbox: The Wii Changed The Face of Gaming, B...:

@ Blastoise-san
The xbox one wasn't trying to get casual gamers at the very beginning. On which planet do you live that "Restrictive DRM that prevents you sharing your games" was supposed to appeal to anyone?

P.S> The casual market isn't"gone". They just play games on phones/tablets now.

Linkstrikesback commented on Talking Point: Pokémon X & Y's Grand Global R...:

If the news had been good from leakers, it wouldn't have been so bad. I kinda wish they had worked on it for a few more months to add another 30 or so new pokemon, and a full battle frontier. Oh,and not put pokemon transferring behind a paywall. (Yes trial, blahblahblah, all well and good so long as you only want to transfer to X/Y and never again)

Ah well.

Linkstrikesback commented on Nintendo Download: 3rd October (Europe):

Here's a reminder for anyone after a digital copy of wind waker. sell download codes for most nintendo games upon release, and normally at the same price they have retail copies, so it would be £45 through instead of the £50 nintendo want. Still too much for my liking, but whatever.

Linkstrikesback commented on Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS:

You can lock the 3D out by a password/pin.

But it really isn't obvious at first glance of a 3ds that you can do it, so yeah, I can see your point, especially if the parents are a bit less tech savvy.

Linkstrikesback commented on Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS:

You could do worse, I suppose. The lack of a clamshell design means I wouldn't ever buy one though.

That, and we can guarantee that in a year or so, Nintendo will be announcing the "2DSXL"

Linkstrikesback commented on Inti Creates Revealed to be Working on Shantae...:

Wow, what spin from the wayforward guys. It's only one guy working with them, not the studio, according to the mighty no9 page.

"And actually, we share more than just a sensibility for awesome 2D action games with our friends at WayForward — one of our artists at Inti Creates, Makoto Yabe (aka KOU), is contributing some key illustrations and background art to this new Shantae as well! (He made the sweet high-five image you see below, too!)"

Linkstrikesback commented on Talking Point: With Calls for Nintendo to Foll...:

I personally expect Nintendo to try and ride out this generation with the wii u (They can't get rid of it this early, that WOULD be a disaster), but there isn't much they can do to reinvigorate the console if this winter season doesn't work.

I then assume they'll do away with having two lines and have only the 3DS follow up but complete with the ability to stream to a tv.

Linkstrikesback commented on Reaction: The Pokémon Bank and the Inevitabil...:

Except, if you want to use the pokemon transfer feature, for this or any further generations, which has been free for the last 10 years, you DO have to buy it.

No-one would be complaining if they weren't putting a massive feature and one of the most important features of pokemon behind a paywall
