Those of you with good memories will recall that this game debuted in Europe last month so you might want to check out our Niki - Rock ‘n’ Ball review to decide if this is the game for you or not. At the low price point of 500 Wii points we were impressed and gave it a wonderful 8/10.
If rolling balls don’t seem like your cup of tea then you might want to go retro and head on over to the Virtual Console and download the Master System classic, Wonder Boy in Monster Land. It’s an oldie, but a goodie!

Might be my first Bplus game.
only 1 game this week?
I'll be downloading this in a few hours for sure.
Only one game this week. Bang! and Lonpos are probably next weeks games.
Oh, if only... The pearl gathering requirement is completely tedious and annoying, the two goals don't really mesh and often you'll end up doing one and then the other were pearl gathering usually comes last when all real threats have been eliminated and your only enemy is the lack of air control and maybe the awfully inconsistent walljumping. Even worse are level designs that require precision platforming because the controls just aren't very suitable for that and jumping up a vertical shaft with platforms makes any mistake force you to start from the bottom again because you can't even use air control to fall back to the closest platform and avoid a total loss.
This is a regression to the failures of jump&run games predating Super Mario Bros.
It's not fair that there is only one WiiWare game released this week. At least it is a good one. I still wish there were more games comming out instead of these one game weeks.
Oh yes it is fair, after the last releases Europe got we need some chance to catch up.
The review for this and the price are good, so I may pick this up later today. I also like that there is co-op.
only one dumb game? When does swords and solders come out?
That's it? Oh well. I'm getting it right away though... Although I was desperately hoping for Snowboard Riot or Evasive Space.
@Bass: I think Lonpos is coming next month. SR and ES are said to be released this month, hopefully.
Come on Nintendo! Release Smash Bros. next week too! If so, that'll be the best week ever for me. All three are must-buys in my eyes!
Also, whatever happened to Mart Racer?
I predict we'll see Pop Em Drop Em Samegame on Friday for the EU and Monday for the USA. Just a guess though!
Evasive Space cannot be far away, I expect we'll get a press release later in the week about that.
I'm very surprised we only get one game this week, despite Japan getting four new WiiWare games tomorrow...
Dazza's predictions usually come true. =P
It's a toss up on which 500 Wii Points game I'm going to download today. I'll probably wait on reviews for both Monster Island and Niki - Rock 'n' Ball. Niki does have a slight edge since I love games like Bubble Bobble.
Yeah they did a ad in Nintendo power for Evasive Space, so I would expect it any week now
I really need wiipoints now, since I've been waiting for Niki, but that will take awhile.
I wish we'd get a platform sidescroller or some game where you can explore and find secrets and such. That'd be cool.
Meh I'll pass.. waiting for LIT and still ever so patiently for Eternity's Child
Congrats for getting Niki, NA! Since this is the only game this week, here's hoping that it'll get more sales than it did here, even though that strategy didn't work with Lonpos a week or so back.
I wish we'd get a platform sidescroller or some game where you can explore and find secrets and such. That'd be cool.
This game has a feature where you have to try and beat levels in a good time to gain awards and get closer to 100% completion. I know it's not the same as what you meant, but it's a start.
It's not fair that there is only one WiiWare game released this week.
How's about one WiiWare game for a fortnight? Not feeling so unlucky now, are you?
@Wiiloveit-Cool.Thanks.
I liked having things to unlock in Pichinko Planet. Extra incentive to play a game more too.
I like Niki. Just got it. It's pretty good but Plattchen is better, imo.
I noticed in the manual that they thanked Deivion212. I always thought it was Demon212. I never realized it was an "ivi" not m. oops. I use my wii to go on the internet.
@ longtimegamer -- Why?
@Alexsay-Not sure maybe a good review of one or both of their games? Gonna check out his nikki review. Don't remember if I've seen it yet.
So you mean to tell me Drake didn't get his name mentioned after his good review? lol
@longtimegamer: Noticed that too. When I was vidding my run through the Wii Shop concerning Niki RB, I vidded that portion.
@AlexSays: I didn't get my name either. lol.
@worryboomb: Excuse the pun but worry not.. there's already a review!
I might get Plattchen twist sometime. I like the fact that they continue the Plattchen story from Plattchen Twist to the Nikki Rock n Ball. Don't know how much story there is to these though.
@KnuckleSonic-Where's your video at?
My vid? Haven't uploaded it yet. But if you want you can check out my channel on YT ("KnuxSonic8") - my old "KnucklesSonic8" account got suspended a few months back. Dumb YT. >_> In fact, I'm still doing vids.
And yes, Plattchen is a unique game worth trying if you're willing to keep an open mind and you give it both time and patience.
Looks alright, but I'm not gonna be getting this one. Anyone want to give me their thoughts on Mega Man 9? I've been thinking about buying it lately but I'm not sure if it's good.
@ KnucklesSonic8 -- How'd they NOT mention you?
They should have a picture of you framed and on their wall after all your support. lol
@ Shadx -- I'm almost certain the page on this site for Mega Man 9 has SEVERAL opinions on the game, one of those being from the famous Corbie.
Oh, and the reason David "DEMON212" Barber was in the manual was because he was the first person to properly play through PLATTCHEN before reviewing it
Oh so it's like a prize for being able to play that long?
@longtimegamer: I noticed that when the game was released here, and just so you know: DEIVION212 is the name of the YouTube channel, but he still refers to himself, and gets referred to, as DEMON212. Oh, and the reason David "DEMON212" Barber was in the manual was because he was the first person to properly play through PLATTCHEN before reviewing it, not because he really liked it.
Also, there isn't much of a story link in that you don't need to have played PLATTCHEN to understand it, although it will clear a few gray spots.
In addition to this, am I correct in saying that you managed to do the savant challenge in MadStone? Because if so, you should be able to do PLATTCHEN Okay, it might not be that hard (until MS get's released here, I won't know), but it helps if you're a good gamer.
@KS8 (20): Same here.
@KS8 (newer ones): Yeah, what happened to your old channel (why was it suspended?)?
@Shadx:
If you liked the classic NES Mega Man games, absolutely pick up the new one. It's fantastic and possibly the best of them.
Remember, though, that video games used to be much tougher back then. As long as you realize you WILL scream profanities at your television now and then, you'll have a lot of fun with MM9. It's my second-favorite WiiWare purchase yet, unseated only by World of Goo.
@Wiiloveit-Yes, you're right. I would think that more people could do it. I don't know how many have really tried though. I was surprised to see that it's taking so long to get twenty top players, really.
I've got to go back and beat that top score though. Thought I was going to once,but lost alot of my score by the end of it. Wasn't very far from it though awhile back. I was well over it until I lost a couple times or so. That really sucked.
On Plattchen, I remember liking some of the visuals that I saw in Plattchen from pictures and videos. Seems like there is alot of content to it. Unlockables too, right?
I'm glad they brought the price down for here. Be nice if they did that for Europe too. It's really not fair when they just do it for one place and not the other.
Nice update. I've wanted this for a while, but already spent my points. And I want some XBLA games more than this, so Ill pass for now, but this will definently be a future buy for me.
Also, DEMON212 is awsome. Great reviews. I remember when he used to be on this site (Well, VC-reviews anyway). Good times, good times
@longtimegamer: There is a helluva lot of content: 100 different levels in classic, copycat and mission modes, each with lots of variety from start to finish. The price difference is a bit of a shame, but after playing through it, I believe that there is more than enough content to warrant a purchase at 1500 points, especially when compared to World of Goo at the same price. The problem is that new buyers aren't going to see that, and won't be looking for much over 1000 points.
Also: when talking about MadStone and PLATTCHEN, try not to confuse both games in the same paragraph.
One game? And It's not Cave Story???...well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't get points yesterday (spent the $20 on my Live subscription).
@Mickeymac: I wouldn't expect Cave Story until you hear more news about it, or at least confirmation that it's finished from the developer. Same goes for Animales and whatnot for anyone else who's going to complain about their most anticipated game not being released this week.
Niki AND Wonder Boy? Wow, two great games at the same time is a first...
Modern versions like MM9 and Contra 4 are actually harder than the games back then. Also I think MM9 is not one of the best MMs, the difficulty balance is off with enemies being almost nonexistant outside of way too difficult minibosses and the rest of the level mostly being covered in spikes.
@Wiiloveit:
@longtimegamer: PLATTCHEN probably has the largest amount of content in a WiiWare game.
@AlexSays: lol just a joke. That made me smirk, thanks for that.
@Oops. Thanks Wiiloveit. I'll try to fix that. "Using the Wii to type this."
@Bahamat Zero-Yea I like to look at his reviews. Also the Wiireviewer (and little wiiviewer), and I saw a review of Yoshi's Story done by this one one guy named Geomon something. He's entertaining too.
@longtimegamer: So, you enjoy Wiiviewr's reviews too, hm?
@Knuckles-I'll have to check out your YT. Mine's shitakemushroomninja.
As for Niki, I plan to get it in the near future, if samegame isn't any good.
@KDR_11k:
Well, speaking as someone who actually played those original games as they came out, I'd say MM9 is perfectly within that classic realm of difficulty. Not as hard as MM1, but pretty much on par with 2 and kind of 3. Later installments got a bit easier as I understand, but I have limited experience of them.
And I have no idea what you mean about enemies being non-existent. Did we play the same game?
@everyone giving out YT addresses
Saw both KnucklesSonic8's and Objection_Blaster's. Mine is beastman93FZero.
I also like to watch DEMON's videos. They're pretty honest and in-depth so I like to see them on the games I'm interested in.
@Chicken Brutus
MM1 is so easy! I still haven't finished 2 or 9 yet because of difficulty level. I think 9 is easier than 2 though.
@Topic
This could be a good game, but I can't buy it as I need all the money I can get to buy Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon.
What a weak week.. hey I said the same word twice! but yeah what a bad week for me that is...
@beastman93
Maybe I should re-evaluate MM1! I remember it being much too hard at the time. The first time I played MM2 I literally sighed with relief...it was still challenging, but no longer unfair.
I'll check it out again, though...it's been many years. Maybe I'll have no problem with it this time!
continues to wait for Eternity's Child
I've been thinking about getting Niki Rock'ball. Mainly cause it looks similar to a game I used to play for N64 Iggy Wrecking Ball
Oddly enough, nobody has listed a "Gaming Website" as their favorite reviewers yet.
Maybe all of us (including me) prefer the average, non-biased, unknown reviewers
@beastman: For me the order is 9>1>2. 1 wasnt as hard as everybody said. Everyone always says "OMG! MM1 IS LIKE SOOOOO HARD!". Meanwhile, It took me months to beat Kid Icarus
hmm....should i get this, or castlevania: draculas curse????
help?
Wow, this marks the fastest I've ever gone from downloading a game and deleting it! What absolute crap. The worst controls I've experienced in any game (Wii and Retro), awful graphics and music... the game has absolutely nothing going for it aside from the potential to be loosely compared with Bubble Bobble (a far, far greater game for the same price), which is what convinced me to give it a try. I should have trusted my instincts when I saw that awful looking trailer. Sure, it's only $5, but this is totally worthless.
Not only are you given pathetic, nonsensical controls, but you're asked to make pixel perfect jumps with them sometimes, and the angles aren't always obvious. The game has no inertia to speak of. The physics totally defy how a ball should behave. You hold down A to enter bounce mode rather than pressing A as you hit each surface. Something about the way the ball rolls just does not feel right at all, and you have no control over your jump. Yes, controlling yourself in mid-air is unrealistic, but it makes for a good game. We have known this since the first Mario. There's no momentum, a jump from standstill and while rolling feels the same. You can't pick up speed.
]It's a sad statement about WiiWare's catalog when this kind of game, which would be mediocre for a flash game, becomes tempting. If only S&S would come out so I could forget this sooner...
For only 500 points, this is a no brainer for me.
o.O I think I'll get Castlevania because of Adam's response...lol.
I disagree with Adam about the controls, they aren't great but they're managable once you get used to them. Some of the later stages can get really annoying though, you have to keep running back and forth all the way from one end of the level to the other because you have to collect the gems in the right order. This is made worse by the fact that you have a time limit.
I think I'll pass on MM9 now ... and this.
@Adam-Thank you for writing about your grievances. They seem to coincide with things that will bother me and I will do more research before (if) I download this game. I had been considering it (the price tag was helping the decision,) but now I'll pick something else up and leave this for later (if ever.)
Apparently others, and certainly the reviewer, got a different experience than I did out of this... so maybe you would like it. All I know is, I saw what looked like an awful game and took a chance on it, and should I have ever trusted my first reaction... it doesn't compare well with most flash games I've played, which is really sad. Even when I can get the controls to do what I want, I don't really "want" them to do anything because the core game play is so empty and unsatisfying. Games like this remind me why Nintendo doesn't have a demo service for WiiWare.
At least the VC is still putting out a halfway decent game every few months.
I agree totally there Adam. Whilst I approached Niki with a lot more enthusiasm than I did with Plattchen, it quickly disappeared. It's an ugly game with repetitive game play based on ill-conceived objectives and throws some awful level design and sloppy controls in to boot.
In fact the only saving grace is that the game costs 500 points, but for that I'd suggest people pick up Bubble Bobble on the Virtual Console - infinitely more playable and a hell of a lot more fun for the same price. Certainly to compare Niki to games likes of Bubble Bobble is an insult of the highest degree.
My appreciation for Bplus' capabilities as a game designer remain as ever at rock bottom.
I downloaded this last night and it isn't bad. (1) The whole initial 'menu' thing (picking a level and starting a game) is confusing because you just seem to start playing without warning and (2) the 'jump' physics take a lot of getting used to because they're nothing like Mario's (which platformers emulate). However, considering all of my gripes, this title isn't bad overall. Interesting and worth the 500 points.
@WiiGuy: Just be lucky you don't live here in Europe.
@Adam: The controls aren't that bad, they just take a bit of getting used to - try coming up with your own interesting and nifty techniques and if you're not too bothered about being precise about the speed you control Niki at, the D-pad controls (press minus to switch) are a lot better in my opinion.
@Calculon: the game might not look as good as many other games, but the unique-ness of the style could be a helluva lot worse. Also: did you buy PLATTCHEN? Because unless you've played it for a good length of time, there is no reason for you to have strong feelings about Bplus as a developer, since PLATTCHEN wasn't that bad.
@Wiiloveit: re. Plattchen: No thank you, I don't want to play it simply because I foresaw the very issues that many reviewers said plagued the game well before it hit out shores. And no, you favourable opinion will not change my mind when you take into account that I personally believe that one out of every nine WiiWare games is actually worth the money asked for.
As for Niki, I agree it does have a very unique, ugly and unmemorable style. Thankfully and hopefully it's the last we'll see of it.
I personally believe that one out of every nine WiiWare games is actually worth the money asked for.
Which explains why we see you ranting so much on here then - because you hate WiiWare. Of course. That makes sense.
Also, the fact that you're not giving Bplus any respect because you've played just one of their games and are basing the rest of your judgement on the harsh critics is just daft. Also, what do you mean by "I foresaw the very issues that many reviewers said plagued the game well before it hit out shores."? When you say "out shores", you do realise that very little information had been revealed at the time of release, and if you meant to say "our shores", you do realize the game was released in Europe before the US, right?
Or, you could do us all a favour and just calm down for once
He seems pretty calm to me. There's no need to irrationally attacking this user's comment down to small, insignificant spelling errors. He shouldn't have to do anyone a favor if he doesn't want to try a game, whether it's for a reason you approve of or not. There are many games I don't want to pay to try, and for many different reasons, some of which may not be good, but the problem is, there's no demo service for WiiWare, so we HAVE to trust what little we have: other games by the same developer and the opinions of critics unless you expect each person on this site to buy every single game and try it for himself -- and then what would this site be for?
And I think 1 out of 9 is a generous estimate, but I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan, which can only mean one thing: unconditional optimism for the future, despite all signs.
waves at Nintendo of America
Gradius Rebirth would be nice, any time soon?
From NOA
Mmmm...hows about next year? Does that sound good to you?
@Wiiloveit "Also, the fact that you're not giving Bplus any respect because you've played just one of their games and are basing the rest of your judgement on the harsh critics is just daft" Um, I believe they've only made 2 wiiware games...so not liking them for at least 50% of their games isn't too far out there.
@Adam-Sadly, yes, we must be unrealistically optimistic when it comes to Ninty. US Disaster in '09, please!
Awwww, I missed the epic argument
I still think Ill get it. It looks fun and unique. I guess everyone has a different opinion though.
@beastman: YOU LIAR!! YOURE NOT FROM NOA!!!!
THIS is what would happen:
NOA: Our teams are hard at work
Fan: Wait, what does THAT have to do with anything
NOA: We cant say anything, but knoww our teams are hard at work
Fan: What are you talking about?
NOA: Our teams are-
Fan: DANG IT, JUST SHUT UP!!
That link leads to an error page, unfortunately. I'd be interested to read that.
Has Rebirth been confirmed for US release? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see it all, though I of course very much want to see it.
I think my days of fanboyism are waning, at best. My Wii has sat here for too long with nothing but Brawl and Shikigami (though these are admittedly awesome games). If Wii Music 2 is announced at E3, consider me retired!
@Terranigma: I just got Dewy's Adventure yesterday too. Great game! I got it from WalMart's 2 for $30 online bundle (got Blast Works for the 2nd game).
Hooray for the ESRB!
Yea, Wii Music sold predictably well. I'm sure it's great for kids. I don't know that I'd honestly expect Music 2 (though it wouldn't be a shocker). I just like to make jokes at the game's expense. I thought Guitar Hero was boring; needless to say, Wii Music makes me laugh every time I see it.
I am cautiously optimistic about Sin & Punishment 2 and Punch-Out, but I don't expect to do more than rent either. I'm also hoping against all hope that I've been misinformed of The Conduit's lack of split-screen, which would be a huge deal breaker for me.
I'm also hoping against all hope that I've been misinformed of The Conduit's lack of split-screen
You aren't misinformed.
Split-screen is dead and High Voltage has decided not to waste time with it.
Great decision by High Voltage.
No whoever made that decision thought it'd be better to focus on the parts of the game non-dead. lol
Split-screen may be dead on 360 and PS3, but on Wii? The average Wii user probably plays with friends or family more than random strangers online. Everyone I know prefers to play games in person.
It's not what about people prefer.
The thing people always screw up is they think the industry runs on fun. lol
Split screen doesn't sell games any more. At least not enough to cover the extra time and money.
It used to be "Hey wanna play with people? Here's split screen!"
Now it's "Hey we have 16 player online with voice chat!"
Online multiplayer sells games. Split screen does not.
For this being High Voltage's first huge game, spending extra time and money is not an option.
Split screen was NEVER going to be in this game. I said that from the get-go.
If there's a logic behind that, it's not clear. "What people prefer" and "what sells games" would seemingly be the same. People buy what they prefer. I really don't think the average Wii user cares about 16-player online as much as split-screen. Might as well put split-screen and 12 bots because it feels the same, except you can set bots to easy, which I like.
I have sadly accepted that online has superseded split-screen on the other consoles, but I've seen no proof of it on Wii so far. You may be right, but I hope not, and I'm not willing to admit it until it's more prevalent on the system. I like my friends. It's fun to play games with them. Your unbelievably adorable avatar may indicate you're a fun person to play a game online with, but it wouldn't be the same.
As it stands, Brawl, Kart, and other big multi-player games that have online play also have split-screen. It's unfortunate that there's no way to gather statistics on this, but if there were, I'd bet anything that local multi-player is far more popular for both games, not that online play is unpopular for either -- certainly not.
And as for HV's first big game... well, SEGA is publishing it... I would think they have a few extra pennies to toss their way, but I don't know.
Please don't crush my split-screen dreams.
@Adam
Yeah we'll just let the game industry crush it for you.
And yes, I also want Gradius Rebirth to come soon. Want Cave Story more though.
I really don't think the average Wii user cares about 16-player online as much as split-screen.
....The average Wii user doesn't care about this game.
In this case, we're talking about one or the other.
If you're wanting to know whether more people prefer ONLY playing multiplayer when friends are over OR playing other people anytime via online, it's a clear choice.
"What people prefer" and "what sells games" would seemingly be the same.
You're applying the right logic to a wrong subject.
People would prefer to have online AND multiplayer. If High Voltage took the time to perfect both, the cost would outweigh the reward.
Everything revolves around money and if High Voltage thought split screen would bring a bigger profit, they'd pull the trigger.
As it stands, Brawl, Kart, and other big multi-player games that have online play also have split-screen.
Mario Kart is split screen because Nintendo wants people buying more accessories.
People buying Wii remotes, nunchuks, classic controllers, and Wii Wheels benefits Nintendo.
Third parties don't make any profit off of people buying Nintendo accessories.
So you can see how split screen benefits one and not the other.
And Brawl isn't really split screen. Unless you mean literally people are "splitting" screen space.
If that's the case then Super Mario Galaxy is split screen because a second person can have a cursor on-screen.
I have sadly accepted that online has superseded split-screen on the other consoles, but I've seen no proof of it on Wii so far.
How many split screen games are there compared to online games?
That should be more than enough proof. lol
Please don't crush my split-screen dreams.
I think High Voltage already did that. lol
@Mickey: Haha, too cruel, but too true.
@Alex: Yea, that's mostly right, though I don't like admitting it... A few nitpicks though:
No, the extra accessories sold I'm sure is a happy (very happy) coincidence for Nintendo. Nintendo seems very intent on having people play together. You're unfortunately right that the average Wii user doesn't care about Conduit, but Mario Kart? The average Wii player is very much behind the game, and they want to play with family and friends.
And as for only being able to play multi-player when friends over with split-screen and any time with online... well, if the average Wii user stereotype were in effect here (and yea, I know it's not for Conduit, just wishful thinking on my part), I would totally disagree. The only people I know who play games online are obsessive about it. Others try it once or twice and are turned off by how ridiculously good online players are, and therefore how hopeless it is for them to win. For me and others, this experience is indistinguishable from playing "multi-player" modes with bots because you aren't seeing real people around you, and in the case of the Wii, cannot even interact with them.
"How many split screen games are there compared to online games?"
I'd need to see statistics for that. I very much doubt there are more online-only games than games that have local multi-player. You are talking about the system where something called Carnival Games sells more than 10 copies. If you mean split-screen literally, maybe so, but I really meant "local multi-player" all this time -- I just kept saying "split-screen" as applies to Conduit (hence the faulty comparison with Brawl).
I guess I am just old, but everyone I know likes playing with friends more than strangers. Oh well, times change.
@AlexSays-I agree that you are correct in split-screen being moslty killed off but personally with the Wii's (at least in my case) shoddy online (disconnects, SLOOOOOW connection and game-starting speeds,) there's no way I'd prefer ONLY online over ONLY splitscreen. (Yes, both would be ideal. I'd be willing to wait.) If your argument was based on HV saving money and time, online takes a hell of a lot longer to implement than splitscreen.
Yes but online makes more money.
No, the extra accessories sold I'm sure is a happy (very happy) coincidence for Nintendo. Nintendo seems very intent on having people play together.
With what games exactly?
Wii Sports and Wii Play? Made so people will buy accessories.
Mario Kart? Split screen isn't uncommon among racers, no real surprise.
They like people playing together because the more people want to play together, the more they're willing to spend on controllers, plastic shells, and other accessory crap.
You'd have to be crazy to think it's a "coincidence", and Nintendo just really likes families being together. lol
I didn't say anything about any game but Mario Kart in that comment. Mario Kart has always been a multiplayer game. It would be foolish to think they "added" it for the sake of the wheel accessory. So yes, happy coincidence. There's really no logic in saying otherwise.
Wii Sports and Wii Play? Of course, but they just sell controllers, not accessories. All systems have games that support multiple controllers. It's not exactly some evil genius scheme to break our wallets, or at least if it is, it isn't new.
No you missed my point.
Mario Kart has split screen because it's a racing game.
Split screen isn't uncommon among racing games.
They knew they could make a killing off split screen (third parties can't) with the Wii Wheel.
/logic
Of course, but they just sell controllers, not accessories.
And after reading my original post...
spend on controllers, plastic shells, and other accessory crap.
....You'll see I categorize controllers AS accessories.
Can you provide me with games made by Microsoft or Sony that are equivalent to Wii Play, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart?
As in they sell extra crap?
Because that's been my whole point all along, they sell certain games so people will buy certain accessories. We'll see that again with Wii Sports 2.
My point was just that Mario Kart has always been multi-player, so this is not a new strategy. If someone had not thought up the Wii Wheel, it still would have been split-screen. You say now that it is split-screen because it is a racer, and yes, that's true, but first you said, "Mario Kart is split screen because Nintendo wants people buying more accessories." Well, yes, they want people buying more accessories, but it's Mario Kart... it was going to be split-screen anyway, which you've now said in your new response. So it was just a misunderstanding.
Sony and Microsoft don't need games to do this because their systems have all sorts of add-ons: extra HDs, a camera, microphones, etc. Of course, these are all tied to online, which is why they don't interest me as much. But they cater to a completely different audience. I wouldn't expect split-screen games on these systems (though CoD and Halo are huge, obvious exceptions that I know sell controllers).
And anyway, if Mario Kart split-screen sells accessories, that means split-screen is popular and that people will buy a game for split-screen. I don't see how the fact that it sells well is an argument against split-screen's popularity on Wii.
I don't see how the fact that it sells well is an argument against split-screen's popularity on Wii.
Because that's the ONLY high-selling split screen game on the Wii.
That's how. lol
And most of that is because people love Mario Kart and even more people love Nintendo.
Comparatively, not many people know or love The Conduit, and even less know or love High Voltage. lol
Split screen wouldn't pay off for them. They have no High Voltage accessory that people will buy for the game, and they don't have nearly as many people buying their game.
@ KDR_11k (#38): "Modern versions like MM9 and Contra 4 are actually harder than the games back then."
For me Mega Man 9 is easier than its NES predecessor because of the shop, but even without it is not that hard like Mega Man 1-4.
@Alex
Well, people may not know and love Conduit particularly, but it's just a shooter. They're all the same.
@Ness
I thought 9 was very easy, too. I couldn't beat Wily's second form, but everything up to that was fine, and I hardly used the shop. The mini-bosses were really tough, but that's it. I haven't played 4-6 in a long time, sadly, but 1-3 are definitely much harder for me than 9.
I haven't played Contra 4 though, sadly, because I don't have a DS.
"it's just a shooter. They're all the same."
Well by that logic, The Conduit should play like Lords of Thunder. I love Lords of Thunder! Now I want the Conduit! Thank you for this stunning realization! /sarcasm/
I'm pretty sure most people knew what he meant by shooter.
So no need for the sarcasm. lol
Yea, you have a problem if you don't understand what it means in the context of our conversation: FPS (that's first-person shooter, not frames per second, to be completely clear, since you are apparently very easily confused).
**** it, I'm out. Now on, I'm stayin' out of any argument that involves Alexsays.
@Terranigma. That's so true. Winning an argument with him is impossible. Eventually you reach a point where you can do nothing but agree with him. That's why I stopped getting involved in his arguments a while back.
And it's too bad about THQ. They published a lot of crap over the years, but they 've cranked out some pretty good games.
I disagree. You shouldn't even be concerned with whether or not you'll "win." The best way to deal with arguments is not to get worked up about it and especially not to be rude about it. Alex and I went on for awhile with neither giving in or getting upset. Mickey steps in for a second to be rude to me about something that was completely obvious in context, then gets angry when neither Alex nor I are phased. It's bizarre. I have no emotional investment in whether anyone else likes split-screen over online. I just enjoy a calm, polite discussion with anyone. I know it's a gaming site, but arguing isn't a game. Just relax.
Yes, but we are fanboys for the same system. We need to stick together!
Now let's sing kumbaya (sp?), everyone.
@Adam
People sayin' that all shooters are alike pisses me off, that's all. I'll agree that was a stupid arguement, and I was going to mention Gears of War instead of Lords of Thunder, but I figured LoT be a better contrast. I didn't read any of your comments except for that one, so I didn't understand the context.
I try to stay away from arguements in general, since I'm not very good at arguing.
Well, Gears is a third-person shooter, anyway, so still not the same.
Anyway, they are all alike to me. It shouldn't upset you that I don't regard a genre the same as you do, I mean no harm. Diversity of opinion = fun times for everyone!
