Re: Some WiiWare Developers Won't Get Paid

vherub

Nintendo needs to get more people into the wiishop. Whether that means packaging wii points with wii systems, 1st party games, or 1st party controllers.
If they bundle a 500 point coupon into wiiplay or wiiresorts, it would create gigantic, exponential growth in wii shop purchases.

Re: Review: Game & Watch Collection (DS)

Agreed with JK, it's the only game available to spend points on. Club nintendo needs to offer a better range of items- and cycle more stuff in. I will probably end up getting this, because nothing else is good, and my hopes of seeing a new item pop up have dwindled.

Re: Steel Penny Games Update

interesting post (and followup), nintendo does need to find a better way to get more people into the wiishop- giving everyone who buys a wii wiipoints- as they have done with the dsi would be a huge step to opening the gateway

Re: id Chief: "Show Me Why I Should Develop For Wii"

he does have a point that awesome games on ps3/360 tend to sell better, but awesome games on the wii, simply do not always sell better. It has to be frustrating that you can make a really great game, have this giant installed base, and not hit a homerun.

Re: Review: Wii Fit (Wii)

Upon initially getting wiifit, I would have agreed with the praise, but the more I used it, the less useful it was. Users are far too constrained in how they want to workout. You can't set time limits, you can't set routines. There is way too much menu navigation, selecting, button pressing and explanation. The workout timer is dreadfully broken. 30 second workouts record as 2 minutes sometimes. The more you want to push yourself, the worse wiifit pushes back. I used wiifit for about 6 weeks, at which point I felt the time I spent with wiifit would be more productive elsewhere.
What also bothered me is the games. Playing sports like football, baseball, soccer or tennis are fun, and you forget that you are working out. The games on wiifit are neither fun after the initial playing, nor are they workouts.
And it would have been nice to allow music to play in the background- most people exercise to music.

Re: Review: LIT (WiiWare)

I played through the first boss, and I'm glad I picked this up. There are little touches that ramp up how complicated the play mechanics, and once I figured out each new wrinkle, it was an aha moment.
Someone made a comparison to Tiki Tori, and I agree. So far, it feels like a puzzler, but it is unique enough and refreshing in the gameplay, that I would not lump it in with other puzzlers.
A demo of the first few levels would have been huge for this, I think.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Ignoring WiiWare?

vherub

1st party sales drive hardware sales historically for nintendo, but the wii doesn't need any help right now. And if anything, you see 3rd party struggling a bit to compete with 1st party titles like wiifit or mario kart. Nintendo has a balancing act because any mario (or pokemon) wiiware game will sell tons- perhaps at the expense of the other wiiware titles. Could be similar with the vc games where the aaa nintendo titles are slow to release. Is 1st party or 3rd party more important right now and for the future of nintendo?

Re: iPhone Hit 1112 WiiWare bound?

hope it works out, I'd also be worried about the gorgeous 800x600 artwork making the transition to the larger screen.
What's the deal with memory limits for the dsware? maybe that would be a better fit.

Re: Eternity’s Child – Still Alive, Coming in 2009

I played the demo off steam and was disappointed with the controls, it was frustrating to play with a keyboard, especially feeling floaty and imprecise. That said, I am still looking forward to this game when it releases on the wii and with a good control scheme it could be a blast.

Also, gencore, it sounds like you are taking a perverse glee in rooting for this game to fail. If you want to bash the developer, I don't know if this is the proper place for that. And if you want to bash the game, well the wii version isn't out yet to bash.

Re: Capcom: No Street Fighter II HD or Bionic Commando Rearmed for WiiWare

vherub

perhaps sf iv or sf hd are not destined for the wii. But I would think many wii owners would enjoy a new 2d fighter, especially one with online matches. The visuals can be vastly improved from the 16-bit era withou needing to look as nice as the 360/ps3.
The underrated and overlooked street fighter 3 could make for a nice wiiware experience.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (12th Nov)

vherub

the staying power of defend your castle is a testament to its $5 price. While wiiware games are influenced by quality, word of mouth and reviews, they are very price sensitive even if most games are cheap. I would bet games would have a huge surge in sales if they ever went on sale. Toki Tori sales have probably cratered, they would definitely benefit.
If the service had a weekend sale, similar to steam, that would also be a great way to get relatively older titles back in the mix. Eventually there will be enough great games that there won't be room in the top 20 for all the Goo or Lost Wind titles.

Re: Confusion Reigns over Mega Man 9 Sales

I recall capcom disputing an okami wii sales figure vgchartz a while ago.

anyway, i got mm9, and I hope it is popular enough that capcom does some more retro revival games with the same about of care.
