While this is likely a so-called "patent troll" in action, I just love how people in the comments section on these types of stories are all of the sudden legal experts who pretend to actually know what they're talking about, when they clearly don't. I find it rather entertaining.
Thank you for that comment, as it was exactly what I was thinking as scrolling through this comments section. It's a shame that so many people still want to just senselessly bash or find ulterior motives rather than just accept that something positive was said, regardless of the motivations behind it.
And then these same people wonder why people complain about Nintendo fanboys being ridiculous.
If they're going to do a MM remake (which i'm sure would be on 3DS), the most logical thought would be that it would release in close proximity to the eventual new Zelda for WiiU. Think about it — we get a Zelda remake for WiiU released in close proximity to a new 3DS Zelda, so perhaps we'll get a Zelda remake for 3DS released in close proximity to the eventual new WiiU Zelda! #fatchance
@ktribal Yep, 15x15 is the biggest they go (again).
Mega Picross mode can be rough, especially after playing a bunch of standard puzzles — you really need to adjust the way your brain tackles the puzzle. Cool though.
While I have absolutely no interest in these games, I have seen these commercials on tv over the past week, and have to say I was actually impressed. Good marketing (and I too noticed that they are obviously shooting for a slightly older crowd than the stereotypical Pokefan kiddies).
@1337man1233 @MegaWatts I can confirm that the Mako SuperPad 64 was horrible. I had one back in the day, and in GoldenEye multiplayer games, it was always given to the best player as basically a handicap to their ability.
Sadly, this is the internet, so logic rarely (read: never) prevails, especially amongst the whiny gamer population. But it is always good to know there are some other people out there who actually have common sense and are able to reason things out in a logical fashion. Spock approves of you.
@AlmostEveryoneInThisCommentsSection Wow, overreact much? Granted, i'm not surprised.
This looks like a Layton Life - type game. I'm assuming that it's less of a "proper" entry in the series (assuming they're going to make more at all), and more of a spin-off expansion/franchise-branding.
@Tornado I can understand your view — copyright lengths in the U.S. have become drastically over-inflated (again, this is primarily or substantially due to lobbying dollars from Disney and others), with some copyright protection extending over a century from the date a work is created (and for works created since the late 70s, it's the Life of the Creator + 70 years).
But the 14 year provision was established at a time when the nature of media was very, very different. Digital media and the proliferation of how easy such media is available to basically everyone at once, not to mention the nature of media existing in the public marketplace (for sale and consumption) for much longer, necessarily requires stronger protection than what existed in the past. 14 years just isn't realistic in the modern world.
Obviously, the issue always comes down to the core of what copyright law (and all IP law) is meant to protect and encourage — protection of a creator's work and IP in order to encourage creation. There's always room for a debate of the pros and cons of each side of the argument, but given the intricacies of the issue, this probably isn't the best place for it.
If you're going to make a fan-film, don't look for money to fund it.
Sincerely, Common Sense

@Tornado You are wrong on several levels — there's a HUGE difference between a 30 year old IP and an IP that's been in constant use over the past 30 years. There are problematic issues with copyright law (primarily because of Disney), no doubt, but that's a seriously ridiculous point of view.
Lol @ the tagline. Being a Long Islander, the proper pronunciation is second nature to me, but it's one of those LI town names that often perplex non-Islanders.
I personally don't care either way. I could count on one hand the amount of games I've considered importing, and I never have because most are filled with Japanese text.
I do understand some people being frustrated with it, but I tend to agree that it's a "problem" that's been grossly overstated by the infamous "vocal minority" of gamers on the 'net.
@Damo Come now. You know as well as I that his comment was made with the idea of 360 vs. XB1 and PS3 vs. PS4. Reading a strained implication into what he said to apply this to a "WiiU is not next gen" argument is reaching, at best, and at worst, is presenting something in a certain fashion for the pure sake of article-hits.
Sigh. This interview with Ancel in no way, shape or form even references the WiiU. In no way does anything he says in it "all but confirmed that the system won't be getting the game". Sigh. @Damo, I am disappointed at the flame-bait once again. Not surprised. But disappointed. Sigh.
What some people seen to be missing, which makes this even more hilarious, is the fact that Phil is pretty much the ultimate authority on Mega Man games. Check out his YT page for some amazing MM no-damage run vids.
I'd buy it day one if it came over here, but I highly doubt it will. I wonder if there's a possibility that Ninty would ever publish the game in the West; it does seem that they have a good relationship with Arino-san and the show in general.
"Gummy Bears Mini Golf lives up to its name: there are, in fact, gummy bears playing mini golf." For some reason, this sentence alone made me laugh hysterically.
@timp29 False. There has been a plethora of litigation on that very issue (most notably Sony vs. Universal, back in 1984), and to put it simply, it is considered "time-shifting" and fair use.
Back in the day, the Coleco tabletop games were awesome products. I remember being so jealous of that one rich kid in the neighborhood (i think everyone knows one of those — the kid whose parents got him everything) who had a bunch of them. Donkey Kong definitely wasn't the best, but Pac-Man was awesome.
Congratulations on cutting-and-pasting the exact same response into two different news articles.
Also, congratulations on being completely out of touch with the real financial realities that led to Ubisoft's decision.
Have fun continuing to believe these things, along with the many others here who prefer to be ridiculously upset instead and angry at Ubi insead of actually taking 12 seconds to understand business realities.
@Zombie_Barioth Actually, i believe the game is supposed to be a prequel to the tv series, following the Dixon Brothers before they meet up with the group in Atlanta.
Though with the development in the mid-season premiere, i can't help but think that there was some coordination going on, story-wise, perhaps in an effort to sell the game.
I love how everyone is calling this a horrible game when not a single person has played it. Also, this game is not trying to "cash in" on the Telltale game's success. It's trying to "cash in" on the tv show's success.
People who are going to boycott this game (presuming they actually wanted the game in the first place), and/or boycott Ubi in general are seriously ridiculous. It's not even funny how stupid of a reaction that is. I'm totally with you on this one, Waltz.
I can't help but wonder if this is a translation snafu — perhaps what he said was intended as referring to potential development for other platforms (e.g., smart phones, tablets), rather than actually developing different platforms/hardware.
I am disappointed with more "reading between the lines" being used here in another News article, immediately on the heels of the "Iwata implies he's stepping down" article. :
Funny. People complain when developers just do a straight-port to Ninty consoles from PS/360, then when a developer says he didn't want to do just a straight port, people complain. Sigh.
Knowing that i tend to share Phil's gaming tastes and sensibilities (or however you want to describe it), i'll probably end up passing on this one.
That said, i'll check out the demo (XBLA), but the negatives addressed in the review are the kinds of things that, for me, will likely sap any enjoyment out of the game, and just encourage me to go back and play my beloved King's Quest games again.
Suggestion to everyone here who are younglings: Read up on who Nader is and the stances he has taken on issues in the past, and you will realize that this sort of statement coming from him completely fails to shock us old people in any way, shape or form.
@Retro As the article mentions, the "indie" label is always debated with respect to what it means, but considering WF operates "independently" (i.e., it's not owned or run by EA, Activision, Ninty, MS, Sony, etc etc etc), i think the label certainly applies.
