Phil, i demand one of your "YOLO" playthroughs of this title. Of course, the inevitable conclusion would be when you finally couldn't take it anymore and bashed yourself in the head with a hammer.
Guys, this doesn't automatically mean that all the Hudson franchises are dead. Konami isn't just going to toss money in the bin by dumping popular franchises. /me looks at Capcom's Mega Man Then again ... That all said, it is a shame to see another classic-era company fade away, but i don't think anyone's really surprised by this after their buy-out last year.
Can't decide if i'll get Metroid II, as i have the GB cart and just replayed it earlier this year ... ahh, who am i kidding, i know i'll grab it eventually! /me reaches for 3DS Also, Happy Turkey Day, everypony!
I was hoping this would get US release last week, but hopefully it's still coming. I love classic-era puzzle-platformer type games, and even a slight comparison to Wrecking Crew (aka the most underrated/overlooked Mario game of all time) definitely peaks my interest.
I will continue to ignore the existence of this thing until there is actually a game that i care about that requires it. Which i doubt is a day that will ever come.
Though i'm a huge Cap fan, i'll pass on this one — i'm actually more curious to see how the DS version is, which looks more like a beat-em-up style game, or similar to the Batman Brave & the Bold DS game.
That's nice Kawata-san. Now, will it actually be an enjoyabe RE game to play, or another annoying actiony garbage-fest like RE5? Yes, i know people love and praise RE5. Personally, i thought it was a horrible horrible game which was horrible. With horribleness.
Phil + writing/vid'ing anything even slightly related to Mega Man = Win. That's math, mofos.
Good piece, Phil. I especially love the "1-Up dropping on to spikes, sitting there smiling and mocking you" bit. (now i'm reminded that i need to catch up on some of your channel vids)
Holy crap, i really hope we get Gargoyle's Quest soon. I LOVED that game back in the day. It was like finding gold — i picked it up knowing nothing about it except for its tenuous connection to the GnG franchise, and discovered an awesome game as a result.
Puzzle Agent is a lot of fun. I'd definitely reccomend anyone who hasn't played it to go d/L it right now, as it's very cheap — and Telltale is always having sales as well.
I think it's pretty clear at this point that Tretton says these sort of things purely to rile up us internet nerds and spark message board debates/flame-wars. Honestly there's no other reasonable assumption for the uneccesarily baiting comments time and time again from one of the leading companies in home electronics.
I agree that SSX3 is probably the better game, but i had more fun with this one. I was actually just recently thinking of buying this again (long ago traded it in after 100%-ing it at least 5 or 6 times).
Good advert. I've been a big fan of Williams since Mork and his cocaine-fueled days (if you think the man's hyper and out there now ...), so this is personally extra-cool to me. And seriously, EPIC BEARD FTW!
The fact that it was actually by LJN is almost mind-boggling. I really like this game, very reminicent of Lode Runner, Jumpman and those classic puzzle-platformers of yore. Damn, yore had a lot of good games.
Awwwwwesome. My very first gaming experiences were entering lines and lines of BASIC code in order to play a simple game (and having to "save" it on cassette tape!). I also used to put far more time than one would have though possible into the Basic Programming "game" on Atari 2600. Wow, this is definitely cool.
Well ... crap. Hopefully things will change. I have to beleive this would sell quite well; like others have said, just slap "From the Creators of Final Fantasy" in big block letters on the package.
Hmm, to G&G or not to G&G? Pro: Great classic game that i certianly don't mind paying $8 for despite already having it through MAME; Con: Another game that will inevitably remain as Unbeaten in my Backloggery for quite some time, if not forever. XD
@Betelgeuse Heh, i was actually going to mention that as soon as i saw this article, till i saw your post. =) The theme sticks in my head if i even play it for a minute, or think about the game at all (theme playing in head now). A fun little game.
Countdown for WiiWare cancellation begins now ... Heh, I kid. At least, i hope i do. This is one of those games (like Mega Man 9/10) that i'd rather get for Wii than XBLA, just on insane retro-principles that i invented in my own mind.
I do understand people's dissatisfaction with this release (i personally am happy with it), but in general i disapprove of any review that spends more time focusing on what's not included in a game then what actually is included.
Ironically, it's funny you rarely see anybody bashing so hard when movies get anniversary DVD re-releases with little extra content.
Sweet, never played VI. I guess i need to finally get back to, and finish, IX. =) And Corbs, VI is better than V? Cool. I'm psyched, since V is amazing, and my favorite in the series (of those i've played).
@tbd Totally right there withya, girl. Between this game, DKC and Golden Sun coming up (and some others i'm sure i'm overlooking ... oh yeah, New Vegas), and having just bought Force Unleashed 2 for 360, my gaming dollars are seriously threadbare. D'oh!
@PSI First off, this game is going to be available on ALL platforms, PS360 included. Second, Jimi Hendrix does not own the word "experience". I can't express in words how foolish that sounds. Third, this is not made to "profit off his death". He died well over a year ago. Are releases of Lennon materials made to "profit off his death"? Or everything released that involves or is connected to a dead person? Fourth, people make fun of celebrities. It's the way the public is. And even those who would bash or make fun of MJ while he was alive would admit that he was one of music's biggest stars and sensations of all time, and tremendously talented to boot. So much fail.
All that said, this game's not my cuppa, but seems to be turning out better than i would have thought.
Cap is my all time fave superhero, but i have nothing but low expectations for this game. The fact that it'll essentially be a movie tie-in release doesn't help either. I'll be (very) happy to be proven wrong, however. At least with Gage writing it, the story should be solid. Just hope the gameplay is as well.
Price point is reasonable (and falls in line with XBLA's trend of marking most new releases at the $15 price point to condition users to buying at that price), but if it were 1000, it would have been an instabuy for me. Instead, now i'll wait, as i'm sure many others will do, which may end up hurting Sega in the long run.
I love hearing Yamauchi-san stories. The man was simultaneously a jackass and a business genius (for a time, at least). The "needing a translator" thing, when he totally did not, is awesome.
I'm so happy i still have my ColecoVision ("inherited" from a friend after the NES took over our lives and he didn't want it any more) -- still works perfectly, too (though i can't always say the same for the controllers).
Being released separately, or only bundled? If separate, then i'll definitely import it. LOL @ the "...before London is destroyed this Christmas" bit. XD

Awesome job, Phil!

Re: Review: Antipole (DSiWare)
I wasn't sure on this one, but a good review, comparisons with VVVVVV, and a 500-pt price tag certianly put it on my list.
Also, while i assume the title is pronounced "anti-poll", i prefer to pronounce it "ant-ip-oh-lee" so it rhymes with Antigone

Not that interested in this game, but i do demand that "Think you're bein' funny? ... Pink Bunny!" becomes a 'net meme.

Yay.
The "sexiness" one is my favorite. I nearly spit out my coffee laughing at the end with the random Terminator comments. XD

Yep, didn't take long for people to start whining about the 3DS VC releases. Jeez.
Tempted to get Tennis, as i spent LOADS of time with it way back when. Plus, with Wimbleton going, i'm in a bit of a tennis mood.

Re: Review: Jam City Rollergirls (WiiWare)
Hope there will be a demo eventually, since i'd like to check out the gameplay first-hand before d/L'ing.
Re: Review: Black Tiger (Virtual Console / Virtual Console Arcade)
Considering grabbing this one. Unless my inner-masochist gets the better of me and i finally grab GnG.
For those mentioning Magic Sword (great game), FYI, it's available on XBLA (and PSN?) as part of Final Fight:Double Impact.
Re: Review: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (DS)
This game is phenomenal. Really hoping it turns into an ongoing series.
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th January 2011 (North America)
Sweet, 1942; may also grab Black Tiger. I wish there was a Roller City demo, but i guess i'll just wait to hear some feedback from those d/L'ing it.

Must be more than just the filesizes (though that's probably a factor), if it's not coming to XBLA either.
