For those too lazy to read, to sum up the comments section here: "Whine whine whine, Kid Icarus was the best game in the history of EVAR, whine whine whine!" it's a good game, but ridiculously overrated by members here
Moral of the story: The next time any of you lot whine or complain that your favorite game got a "low" score or "bad" review, you will realize that you are less mature than a 7 year old.
Gonna have to grab Ninja Gaiden just on principle. Having a Restore Point will be so sweet, just for that brutally punishing deal towards the end where if (when!) the final boss kills you, you continue from 2 stages back.
Translation as to why it's going to be on PC only: "Well, it would actually cost us a little bit of money to put it on consoles, and the fact that all we did is snatch up and release a fan-made game should tell the fans all they need to know about how much we're willing to invest in MM at this point. Almost nothing."
@Shining-Void I think you're thinking of the enagagement ring (diamond-y!), which is different than a wedding band. Wedding bands are more often just simple rings (typically gold).
The only thing i'm really curious about this is why it's only like this in the EU. Usually it's my fellow foolish Americans that encourage a company to do something like this ... there must be some reason why this policy is limited to the EU.
@Malic You're simply not correct about that. If Atari hadn't established that a home video game market even existed in the U.S., there's a good chance we never would have seen the NES come to the U.S.. Nintendo undoubtedly has done a tremendous amount for gaming, but you really need to review your video gaming history if you think Atari's contribution is "not even close".
I am dumbfounded (but ironically not surprised) by some of the comments here. Bushnell was a pioneer of the home video game industry. To cast him off as if he is someone who has no idea what he's talking about (or worse, to even suggest that Atari did nothing for gaming?) is just pure ignorance. You kids need to educate yourselves.
Being who he is, of course mainstream publications writing up the WiiU (most of which from what i have seen are taking it from the approach of "are gaming consoles becoming obsolete?" discussion) are going to seek him out for comment. And this is the same thing he's been saying for years — he believes console gaming in general is on the way out. I disagree with him, but that doesn't invalidate his viewpoint.
I heart you for mentioning Gumshoe. I pumped hours and hours into that game, finiding the branching paths in each level, and beating it over and over again. I very unique, and sadly overlooked, game.
Also, big ups to Gyromite — another game that i dumped hours upon hours into, with the classic method of using my feet on the pressure plates to control the R.O.B. parts.
I wouldn't be surprised, but forgive me if i hold a giant grain of salt until this rumor comes from somewhere other than a Korean ratings board listing.
As others said, I would also love if it did come to PS3, sell exceedingly well, and maybe convince Capcom to stick to the roots of the series instead of the perpllexing direction they've decided to take the series in the recent console entries. Revelations was an awesome entry.
I think it's most likely as was said above a royalties issue. Or perhaps there was a limited term to whatever royalties contract or agreement that existed, and one or other (or both) of the sides decided not to re-up the contract, or one or other (or both) of the sides wanted to change the terms.
Or maybe they are going to feature the games on the WiiU eShop, but the agreement that they had with Rare only allows digital distribution through one forum (similar to the way a tv show may have the rights to air music while on broadcast tv, but not on the dvd or in reruns). Lawyered.
Or it could be something completely different. I tend not to think it would have anything to do with an HD collection or anything, but i suppose it is possible.
Good review, Jon. And interesting too — a perfect example of why people need to not just look at the score, but read the review. The review itself reads like it would recieve a much lower score. Quite frankly, this is exactly what i wanted to read in a review — you hit on all the questions i had personally about the game, and while i'm sure it is a great, fun game, your review confimed all my concerns over the game and reinforced my decision not to pick it up.
I have one of the portable Genesis systems, and the emulation can be spotty at times, but perfectly playable. The one i have is awesome as it, although it only has 20 built-in games, it actually has a cartridge slot for playing Genesis (and MegaDrive) games.
Also, so people know — the "80 Games Included!" thing does NOT mean 80 Genesis/MegaDrive games. There are 40 Gen/MD games, and then another 40 games that are on-par with lame website-based flash games.
Cool! Though i still need to pick up VI. (by the way, the article mentions that V and VI were released for DS, but you forgot that IV was also released for DS)
Already planning on d/L'ing Layton (anyone know the block size?) on Sunday, and debating both GnG and Castlevania (just on princple, as i had it on GB back in the day, and wouldn't mind having it again despite the suckage).
As for the Mutant Mudds DLC (which i'll also be getting), are the additional levels accessible from existing save-game slots, or do you have to start a fresh one?
The original has always been my personal favorite in the series, most likely due to an extremely high nostalgia-factor level. Having this on a hand-held (legitimately) will be awesome, so hopefully it will get a US release soon.
I see abolutely nothing wrong with this. No one is forcing the buyers to spend the money.
This is little different than buying marked-up concert or sporting event tickets through StubHub or elsewhere. I may have spent $900 on a pair of 2001 World Series tickets (face value = < $200), but no one made me do it. If someone wants to charge $750 for something that's a third of the price, and someone else MUST have that item day one, that's their choice.
@peoplecallingforbeatings You are horrible and despicable, and have no concept of reality.
Good review, Phil I was waiting to hear your thoughts on this before picking it up, since we tend to share very similar gaming tastes. /me heads to eShop now
Also, Gargoyle's Quest is absolutely awesome. It's a bit hard in the beginning, but it quickly becomes a fair challenge once you start to gain power-ups and such. One of my favorite "overlooked" GB gems.
Fare thee well, James. Congratulation! A Winner is You! (congrats also to Damo for taking the reins 'round here) I would post something more humourous, but Phil already stole the Zoidberg quote. Instead, i will ensure that there is much pudding shipped and waiting for you in Frankfurt.
Ubisoft's presentation was excellent.Watchdogs looked incredible, and i'd actually be surprised if it's not on WiiU, just given the style of gameplay with the "hacking" stuffs — seems like a perfect fit for the Gamepad.
I played the demo of Lord of Shadows, and it was fine. But i'll agree — after playing it i thought "Well, that was ok. It's not Castlevania, but it's ok."
Of course, i also don't really care for the "Metroidvanias" either. Just give me pure classic 8/16-bit style 'Vanias and i'm happy.
Waste of time is a waste of time. The game's not happening; they're not going to release the prototype. I think at this point, it's become such a sore issue that Capcom would never release it just on stubborn principle, even if they had signed affidavits from a million people promising to buy it.
Is Zuma's Revenge the same game as regular Zuma? I have put in ridicuolous amounts of hours on that game on XBLA; it's tempting to grab a portable version. If the price point was a bit lower i'd instabuy, but i'll probably hold off for a bit.
Still can't decide whether to get Punch-Out! or not. I have plenty of other versions, but it is one of my favorite NES games. Of course, if i do get it, that'd be another eternal :U: on my BL since i don't know if i still have my skills anymore to be able to beat Not-Tyson.
