@Croz Can't say for certain, as I don't own it, but I am almost positive it would fit. I was on the fence about purchasing one, because I have a couple Waterfield 3DS XL cases already, and they fit my Analogue pocket perfectly. Personally, I also much prefer the design of the City Slicker cases anyway, so the only benefit of the pouch (for me) is charging while in the pouch.
@dimi Meh. Poorly timed embargo IMO, but it's not like Analogue has ever released anything other than top of the line products, so I think we pretty well know what we're getting. That is, if we can get it, of course... I was refreshing the screen non-stop at the original launch and never once saw them come in stock, so I'm still a bit concerned bots will beat me this time around too. And I'm not at all crazy about placing an order that won't be fulfilled until potentially 2023, so I don't know how to feel about this.
@Magician Shoot... I was just going to say I loved this game, but not quite enough to double dip. I think a physical copy has just convinced me XD Thanks for the link!
Like I said, I stand by your point - it's just seems completely irrelevant here. 99% of the people that purchased Shovel Knight don't care about how the game was funded - they purchased the game and got what was one of the best games of its kind at initial release, followed by a plethora of free content updates. And that's effectively all we have to go off of so far. I've not seen anything to make me doubt their upcoming releases.
Then again, after the Witcher 3, I had full faith in CDPR too, and we know how that turned out Still, I think we just need to wait for the game to release before accusing them of releasing an unfinished game.
@CharlieGirl I agree with the sentiment, but you couldn't have picked a worse developer to try to make your point with. Shovel Knight was amazing at launch and had some of the best free post-launch content in recent memory. I'll Yacht Club the benefit of the doubt until they give me a reason not to.
@Specter_of-the_OLED It's not remotely. If you're looking for sim city clones, that would be Cities Skylines or Tropico for your island builder fix. This is still a great game, but not a sim city like.
I like the game on PC, but after playing it, it feels weird to call it a city builder. It feels much more like a board game, where placing tiles in proximity to other tiles grants you bonus points. It's fun, but it doesn't really scratch the city builder itch for me. More puzzle like.
@RasandeRose Yeah. I would have loved something very stylized like Valyria Chronicles. It's also possible that once in motion and I'm playing it, I won't care about at all, but initial reaction for me is that it is quite unappealing. Still - underneath it all, it's going to be Advance Wars, so it will be hard to be disappointed =)
I'm stoked for this release and will almost certainly get it, especially with online confirmed, but I really dislike the art style. I would have preferred higher resolution 2D sprites, or pretty much anything that didn't look like a mobile game.
@SwitchVogel In the SRG Discord, they said it's essentially to protect the limited nature of the release. They want the physical release to maintain parity with the digital release and no eventually become an outdated, lesser version of the game. It's not a "Selling" point to me either, but it's also not an issue - seeing as how they are funding the games themselves and devs know what they're getting into, I don't see a problem with releasing a feature complete game, and moving on to a sequel should they want to expand the game later.
@tekknik Every role I've ever held had every software development teams as part of IT. Not that it really matters, but seems like an awfully hard point to argue that programmers aren't in the IT world.
That said, this article (And most people) seem to conflate the concept of a Development Team and Developer job positions. A development team, including my own, is made up of many roles - Developers, QA, Designers, Product Owners, Project Managers, etc... They all make up the development team, and those from the outside may refer to the entire team as the "Developers" of product XYZ. That does not mean each individual is a developer by trade.
What I prefer and what I buy are different. I was a dumb kid, so most of my collection pre-GameCube is loose. Everything since is CIB. Due to the crazy prices, for older stuff I tend to buy those loose, but I'm much more meticulous with stuff I've purchased over the last 15 years or so.
@Onion Yeah that's nonsensical to me too. Just... don't play the new dungeon. It's an opinion piece, so it's not overly important, but for anyone else looking into the game now, I definitely recommend DX over the original.
@thesilverbrick If it makes you feel any better, I'm the same way. I have no idea why. One paper, it seems like a game I should like - but I just can't get into it. I think I only bought two games, at least... but I am feeling tempted by Rise, again, despite not enjoying World or the last one I played on 3DS.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand @jump They never said they weren't heavily inspired from BotW. It's pretty clear they borrowed some aspects - but this is a simple explanation for why the leaned so heavily into Greek mythology, which BotW does not.
I played it on PC and I absolutely love it. I do not agree with this review in the slightest. I can't comment on the technical issues - and that may very well be a valid complaint - but this has to be the review I've disagreed with the most here. I found the commentary and dialogue humorous and entertaining, and perfectly suited to a game about miniature toys in a sandbox. The puzzles were fantastic, well thought out, and challenging. I can't stress enough how much I disagree with those points, and I frequently recommend this game on PC to my friends.
@StefanN I was about to post exactly this. It's still incredibly complicated and involved - at least, for the good rogue likes. After all, someone still has to design the individual rooms and areas, make sure that they can all interconnect in a meaningful and fun way, etc... It's certainly not always the "easy" way out.
That said, I do love roguelikes, metroidvania, and retro graphics... so perhaps I am slightly biased, but I just don't understand how one could say they love the look of a game, love the gameplay of a game, but won't play it because it's a roguelike. To each their own, I won't criticize those that feel that way as I have genres I don't like - but I still don't understand it.
@zocker-hias Celeste I would definitely give a 10 - but honestly, can anyone really objectively say what makes a 9.5 vs a 10? I mean, they're both outstanding scores. Celeste in particular, I believe to be the pinnacle of the genre.
Regarding Horace, I wouldn't say it is a 10, but it is quite easily an 8 or 9. It's hard to pin down a genre, because they game is bonkers and does a bit of everything. But even then, I don't have a problem with someone else personally rating the game a 10. It's a great game - whether the numerical score someone assigns it is a 9 or 10 is of little relevance and is easily attributed to personal preference.
@SwitchplayerJohn I'm not so sure. I think I'm the ideal target audience for this (Huge Nintendo fan, own a single-family home, hard-tile kitchen that would work for this, little kids) but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of buying 2 of these. Especially since my son loves driving our real RC car outside. Seems to me staring at a screen defeats a large part of the fun of racing an RC car, though it is cool you get to build your own tracks and race in your virtual house. Maybe I'll pick it up on sale.
@Anguspuss My son is the same way with Hotwheels, and I remember doing the same as a kid. I would spend way more time building tracks, legos, etc... than I would playing. The thing that doesn't sit well with me is is what is mentioned in this review - they'd often forget they were racing real RC cars until it zipped by. I'd much rather it be the opposite - where you primarily watch the cars, rather than the screen. I have a feeling my son (4 years old) will be the same. Still, interested to check it out.
I'm really mystified at just how bad that Super Mario 64 special edition looks. Looks like someone clicked the magic wand tool in photoshop and pasted Mario on with no other adjustments. Pretty bad aliasing and bits of the background still clearly visible. At least it's a rare, ugly console I guess.
Best SA2? Not a chance. Favorite? Absolutely. I think if most people revisited that game today though, they'd realize just how atrocious the camera is along with some of the levels. Most of the 3D sonic games have aged very poorly.
@Snakesglowcaps I've also been playing it since release and enjoying it. That's because the original games themselves are great. That doesn't change the fact that this is an incredibly lazy port. We're not living in a vacuum - there's plenty of other retro collections done much better, and for cheaper. The SNK 4th Anniversary Collection, Street Fighter collection, Mega Man Legacy Collections, etc... I'm also a software developer working from home. I don't get a pass for shoddy work simply because I'm working from home. It doesn't matter "What goes into it" if the end product doesn't live up to user expectations. I'm not saying this is a trash/garbage collection, but it is definitely the bare minimum Nintendo could have done.
@Snakesglowcaps In the grand scheme of things, of course it's not a huge deal - but that doesn't change the fact this is an incredibly lazy collection of ports. No other industry gets to claim the "Oh yeah, this product sucks but... you know. Pandemic". Most everyone is figuring out the shift to work from home, but product & service quality do not get a free pass because of it.
I'm more upset than I have any right to be, but I really just can't believe that would be dumb enough to leave Galaxy 2 out. Likely makes it a pass for me.
@NintendoPok Three sentences was too long for your feeble mind to comprehend? You wonder why people aren't taking your "opinion" seriously? It's because your opinion is complete garbage. Though that's just my opinion I suppose. And this is sentence #5, so I guess you've probably already become confused and stopped reading, so I'll end it here.
@NintendoPok You seem like you'd be a lot of fun at parties. So you're telling me you can't fathom how a video game could help prepare a young kid for life as a pet owner? Even if it's something as simple as "They need a lot of attention and exercise" ? Pretty sure she never stated that she learned everything she ever needed to know about dogs from Nintendogs. Just that it helped prepare her.
@MeowMeowKins it seems you misunderstood what I said. They are selling for $2k secondhand. So yes, they did very well and there is incredible demand for them, even at $500 MSRP.
@MeowMeowKins It's an after market NES that does not rely on software emulation. The reason it's so expensive secondhand is due to custom firmware & cores that were release that allow it to accurately play roms from just about every 8 bit system. I absolutely loved my Mini, and I've pre-ordered this one as well... but yeah, it's not worth $2k to me, which is why I sold it =) I am really looking forward to having another though.
@mattmanvsuperman To my knowledge, no. But, I think there are flash carts that do and the possibility of custom cores adding it in the future.
@Ulysses Not saying they'll last forever, but should be a good long time =) Regarding the battery, I spoke to toon - GBC carts did have the battery soldered in place, which I had forgotten about. Soldering is not as tricky as people think though, so it's still a fairly simple process if you have the equipment. Being interested in retro-gaming kind of necessitates it, long term - I've recapped I don't know how many handheld systems, replaced LCDs, speakers, etc...
@Ulysses There's no moving parts, so there's not much risk of a cartridge dying - aside from the save battery if there is one - which is a relatively simple fix. Don't think anything in my collection has failed yet. I don't think a single cartridge in my collection have failed me yet, dating back to the NES.
@bryce951 Anything's possible - I'm not saying they're immune, just that it's not a concern of mine.
Also, back to eBay - what are you talking about illegally reselling? To my knowledge, there's nothing preventing people from reselling items on eBay at a higher price, apart from morals... though I'd say you're just as bad if not worse for intentionally sabotaging auctions.
@bryce951 I doubt they're going under any time soon, and I've been thrilled with past purchases from them. They clearly know how to make top-notch products, even if for a niche market. That said, I still don't like anyone holding on to that much money for such a long time.
@TG16_IS_BAE I actually don't think the system itself is overpriced, but the dock seems to be. Don't get me wrong, the system is very expensive, but I think you get what you pay for here. It's just a very niche market who would care about most of the technical specs.
EDIT: Regarding the eBay scalpers... I blame the dumb people willing to pay that much more than the scalpers themselves. I purchased an Analogue NT Mini back when it first launched, played with it for a year and realized one day people were paying stupid amounts of money on eBay for them. I put it up for sale and it auctioned for $1700. Obviously that's different than someone intentionally buying loads of stock just to resell (Though, Analogue limits 2 per buyer) but the way I saw it, I had something that someone else wanted, and if they value it more than I do and they are willing to pay a stupid sum, I will let them. Like I said, I'm more excited for the Analogue Pocket than any other system I can remember, but it's not that hard to refrain from paying scalpers.
@brunojenso Yeah not the best look. This is actually the most excited I've been for a system launch in some time, and I was ready to buy a black system, white system, dock, cases, screen protectors, cables, and a set of cartridge adapters... a stupid expensive purchase to be sure. So after the lengthy delay, I'm kind of glad I didn't hand over $600-$700 for them to hold ransom for a year. I just hope they really do follow through with increasing production, because I'm going to be beyond disappointed if I can't get at least one of these.
@KillerBOB Unless they produce none, how could they not produce more, if they haven't produced any to begin with?
Though I think it's pretty obvious they put up pre-orders for an existing contract/order with a manufacturer, and they're saying they are planning to increase capacity.
@impurekind Of course you're entitled to not like the aesthetics, but the reason it has to be fully open, rather than just the size of a GB cartridge, is to allow for cartridge adapters. I personally much prefer having that option, even if it does look a little weird.
@Kalmaro Eh... considering the amount of marketing that went into the Switch being a hybrid console, and the stats showing how many people use it handheld exclusively, I'd say the Switch Joy-Con are more integral to the system than any other system's controllers. I kind of get your point, but it's not really the same as other systems either.
@Sandro89 @HobbitGamer Agreed. And unfortunately, I'm fairly certain the Lego QA testers are also core software developers, so this is likely why 2020 has been such a quiet year for games... right?
@shoeses Not sure what you're going on about. Not defending the price or criticizing the price. The point was solely that the game was STILL $60 on Wii U, so of course they're not going to launch an updated version of the game at a cheaper price. Nintendo does wait forever to cut prices, but they most certainly do permanent price drops as well.
Tropical Freeze is irrelevant here, though I'll agree the price was high and is the reason I didn't buy it. We could discuss all day what the price of ports should be - I likely would have bought several more at $29.99 or $39.99 even - but that wasn't part of the original discussion. Merely pointing out that it would make no sense to release an updated port on a brand new system for less than it was currently available.
@shoeses Would have been nice if it were cheaper, but at the time of release, MSRP on Wii U was still $59.99, so it wouldn't have made sense to release the Switch version for cheaper.
@SSJW I'm not accusing you of saying it is off the table. I'm saying I have an issue with the posts in the original article that imply a project of this nature should have never been given the greenlight. It sounds like we agree.
@SSJW Never heard of it, but I would agree with you based on the name alone, it likely should have been shunned. The point is, there are a lot of terrible things depicted in games. To imply that a topic is entirely off limits simply because it is a "Real issue people are dealing with now" as some of the posts in the original article said, is the part that I think is non-sensical. I only mention , murder, abuse, theft, etc... as those are things that are clearly terrible, yet prominently featured and often glamorized in games. Obviously, if the game is distasteful, it should be shunned. I've no issues with that. I just have issues saying the topic is off limits in the first place.
I think the game should take flak for some of the decisions they made, but to say a game about this should not be made period because people actually deal with this for real is beyond non-sensical.
How about games that depict racism? For profit (Or selfish interest) wars? How about just straight up blatant murder? Let's not pretend that online abuse is somehow worse than any of those things. Of course it is a real problem, and of course it needs to be taken seriously - that doesn't mean that it needs to be ignored entirely in the entertainment industry.
@Krambo42 Yeah, it's super weird. It took me way longer than it should have to realize it contained both games. Considered Dig2 was the much better game, I would have expected a more prominent place in marketing. Regardless, got my order in this time, so I'm happy.
@Steelhead You made up my mind for me =) For those unaware like me, it's up for pre-order on Strictly Limited Games, shipping in October/November time frame. €39.99 for steelbook version. Just placed my order.

Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@mattmanvsuperman To my knowledge, no.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@Ulysses There's no moving parts, so there's not much risk of a cartridge dying - aside from the save battery if there is one - which is a relatively simple fix. Don't think anything in my collection has failed yet. I don't think a single cartridge in my collection have failed me yet, dating back to the NES.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@bryce951 Anything's possible - I'm not saying they're immune, just that it's not a concern of mine.
Also, back to eBay - what are you talking about illegally reselling? To my knowledge, there's nothing preventing people from reselling items on eBay at a higher price, apart from morals... though I'd say you're just as bad if not worse for intentionally sabotaging auctions.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@bryce951 I doubt they're going under any time soon, and I've been thrilled with past purchases from them.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@brunojenso Yeah not the best look.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@KillerBOB Unless they produce none, how could they not produce more, if they haven't produced any to begin with?
Though I think it's pretty obvious they put up pre-orders for an existing contract/order with a manufacturer, and they're saying they are planning to increase capacity.
Re: Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Have Sold Out, But More Are On The Way
@impurekind Of course you're entitled to not like the aesthetics, but the reason it has to be fully open, rather than just the size of a GB cartridge, is to allow for cartridge adapters. I personally much prefer having that option, even if it does look a little weird.
Re: Nintendo Dropped Every LEGO Mario Prototype 6,000 Times To Ensure Its Quality
@Kalmaro Yeah. I play pretty much 100% handheld, so I'm sure that influences my feelings on the matter.
Re: Nintendo Dropped Every LEGO Mario Prototype 6,000 Times To Ensure Its Quality
Re: Nintendo Dropped Every LEGO Mario Prototype 6,000 Times To Ensure Its Quality
@Sandro89 @HobbitGamer Agreed. And unfortunately, I'm fairly certain the Lego QA testers are also core software developers, so this is likely why 2020 has been such a quiet year for games... right?
Re: Switch Online Subscribers Can Play Pokkén Tournament DX For Free Next Week (Japan)
Re: Switch Online Subscribers Can Play Pokkén Tournament DX For Free Next Week (Japan)
@shoeses Would have been nice if it were cheaper, but at the time of release, MSRP on Wii U was still $59.99, so it wouldn't have made sense to release the Switch version for cheaper.
Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash
@SSJW I'm not accusing you of saying it is off the table. I'm saying I have an issue with the posts in the original article that imply a project of this nature should have never been given the greenlight. It sounds like we agree.
Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash
Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash
Re: SteamWorld Dig And SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition Are Getting Physical Switch Releases
@Krambo42 Yeah, it's super weird. It took me way longer than it should have to realize it contained both games. Considered Dig2 was the much better game, I would have expected a more prominent place in marketing. Regardless, got my order in this time, so I'm happy.
Re: Review: CrossCode - The Zelda-Like RPG You Never Knew You Wanted
@Steelhead You made up my mind for me =) For those unaware like me, it's up for pre-order on Strictly Limited Games, shipping in October/November time frame. €39.99 for steelbook version. Just placed my order.
