When you consider the sheer number of limited edition consoles the company has released over the years, it's hardly surprising that plenty of Nintendo machines both old and new are deemed to be incredibly rare. That doesn't stop them from being super-interesting, though, as this new video proves.
The video comes from video game researcher and archiver Liam Robertson, as part of his Game History Secrets show found on DidYouKnowGaming?. Several rare Nintendo consoles are shown off, including a special Nintendo DS with Super Mario 64 DS artwork, a rare Advance Wars DS only given out to press, and more – including a fascinating story surrounding a Miyamoto signature that was believed to be just "a smudge".
It's well worth a watch if you're into this sort of thing and, if you're interested, the video was created in partnership with Console Variations – a great website for tracking down all the weird and wonderful variants of Nintendo consoles.

How many of these Nintendo systems have you heard about before? Any that are completely new to you? Let us know in the comments below.

Pictures instead of a Video would begreat.
@Azuris That would be nice, because I'm technically supposed to be paying attention to math class right now.
I bet all the limited edition 3ds are worth a lot, especially Zelda and pokemon unopened.
How could anyone consider that a smudge
Who else went through the video to see if you had any of these? I don't.
I'm really mystified at just how bad that Super Mario 64 special edition looks. Looks like someone clicked the magic wand tool in photoshop and pasted Mario on with no other adjustments. Pretty bad aliasing and bits of the background still clearly visible. At least it's a rare, ugly console I guess.
8:47 "Hot Summer Donkey" lmao
@Azuris but then they couldn't fling even more advertising at you
I have one of those ANA N64 Consoles without the shipping box. Normally they’re worth $1,000+, but it’s missing the ANA Jumper Pak cover so I’ll sell it for the bargain price of only $500. I’ll even include a standard jumper pak cover because I’m so nice. Anyone interested? 😀
I have a nintendo 2ds a can go the eshop or gamestop and get any ds or3ds game i want that really cool it nintendo really really mess up so bad when they stopped making all the D's family we really enjoy and and its small so you can put in backpack or you prize not the switch that that is to big to carry everywhere and they are sealind all the D's 3ds game I hope you go back to D's family it was alot better thank you have a safe and healthy howllen
Whatever l can't stand watching videos. Had to keep skipping around to just see the consoles. Images please next time. Can't keep looking up things.
some brilliant book's on ebay with loots of consoles in them
@Radbot42 Not sure if it's the same person, but the funnier thing is I recall someone making that comment on Nintendo's own message boards (during one of the periods when they permitted gaming discussion, they later restricted it to tech-support talk only, not sure if it's still running).
People were shocked.
@Azuris : They can't get YouTube ad revenue by posting pictures. I'm going to abstain in protest.
I still have the old ds lite Zelda limited edition, it's the gold one, not sure how much it's worth now.
The Mario 64 one looks like that Nirvana cover.
Where's Wii U? Since it was a major failure, that automatically make it rare since so few were made.
I own a Super Famicom Box thats pretty rare. Pretty cool too. They were used in hotels for pay to play. Made a video on it too
N64 Mario in the DS/GCN era kinda looks cursed
The Puzzle & Dragons DS would be the most interesting to own, especially with Shigs' signature. The Advance Wars DS was cool too.
@Lone_Beagle it’s not a Nintendo Life video. So I don’t think they care about ad revenue.
Some really good designs in there. Some I knew existed and a fair few I didn't
I agree, images would be nice, although watching the video is beneficial for the content creator which I think is a good thing.
Its time to practice my Miyamoto signature
Was thinking this article was gonna be based on consoles like the SNES PlayStation, smh.
