@tanookisuit lucky you were unable to make your point succinctly, that was in grave danger of ending up racist...

The review makes it sound like Lylat Warriors - Wonder if Koei Tecmo have any plans to revive this for the HD generation?

I anticipate the announcement of the Wii U 2 E , their PS4 Pro-level dedicated home console that they've managed to keep under the radar simply by employing the Wii U's publicity team to brand it and get the word out there. 4K 60FPS, VR and AR support, an actual Voice Chat system that uses more than yogurt pots and string, and a revolutionary new couch-co-op solution (firmware support required) that supports plugging in up to 3 RealDolls to act as your co-players.

Or... you know... a couple of Amiibo.

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

I guess the difficulty is in having the Amiibo offer functionality that's worthwhile without undermining the game proper by gating off content that should have been there from the start. Splatoon was a terrible example of the worst of both worlds, locking out single player challenges that saw the overall out-of-box 1p experience drastically shortened, and only offering some mid tier on-disk dlc that you outgrew very quickly.

If things stay as they are they need to make cheaper amiibo cards of the existing statues available transparently. No blind bag poodledoodlydoo. The only thing the Animal Crossing amiibo got right was the portability of the cards.

Since they're selling a system aimed at families I'd like them to have a software vending model also aimed at families, with a unified parent-controlled account that the kids can check software in and out of on different consoles. No one should have to buy Tamodachi Life twice. No one.

Re: Your Classic Splatoon amiibo Will be Supported in Splatoon 2

@ThatNyteDaez The issue, as I said, is the lack of consistency and definition in terms of Amiibo, what they do, what they're compatible with; a problem the other 2 don't have, and a problem Amiibo would have regardless of whether they came first or not. Some Amiibo do next to nothing, some are very versatile. And it's a fluid situation as new games are released and old games are patched, but there's no clear vision, it's all a bit ad-hoc. And that's not good for business - if a shop assistant has to ask me what they're for, they clearly are not going to be able to answer the same question for prospective customers. (And that's happened a few times, I always answer the same way : There is a hole in my heart that can never be filled, but I'll keep cramming plastic tat that looks like Samus in all the same)

Regarding "toys to life" - maybe playing as the character is not the only use or even the best use, but that doesn't address the fact that it's not a use of the Amiibo.

@ThatNyteDaez At least in Skylanders and Infinity, you could play as your character. The relationship between what you buy and what you get is very linear. Amiibos offer no defined or consistent payout and sometimes seem downright backward. I mean, you buy Ryu for Smash Bros, but you can't play as Ryu unless you also buy the character as DLC? Twice, if you own both platforms? Bananas.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE This is no worse than BotW locking certain unnecessary armour sets behind amiibo, which is very tolerable. Hopefully this is a good sign for the Single Player campaign which REALLY suffered if you missed out on the boost in content the Amiibo gave it on the first one.
