Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

Honestly, what drew me into the first AC game for GCN was the enchanting feel of the game presented by the Animal Crossing interactive website. It was probably the first time a website campaign actually intrigued me so much. I wonder if one of the internet archives has that site somewhere?

Anyway, every AC game that has come out I have purchased due to that same feel of enchantment. I hope this one brings as much laid-back splendor as it's predecessors.

Re: Rumour: Retro's Wii U Title Is An Entirely New IP

I don't think it's all too likely that a new Metroid Prime will come out. Looking at how Iwata treated the Prime trilogy in the official Metroid timeline and all, I think Nintendo sees it more as a spin-off series.

That being said, Metroid Prime was probably my favorite Gamecube title, and my second favorite Metroid title next to Super (the GBA games are fantastic too!). So I wouldn't mind at all if we saw more Metroid rather than a new IP.

Re: Weirdness: A Wii U Gamer's Miiverse Journey Through Super Metroid

Don't think someone that clueless would give the effort of actually beating the game. That game was hard and long when it first came out, but it's still one of my favorites.

I will say, as complex as the game might be it is nothing compared to the first two. Both Metroid and Metroid II were very vague compared to all of the more recent ones.

Re: Feature: A Brief History of Pokémon - Part One

I remember when my sister and I got Game Boy Pockets. I got Pokemon Blue and she got Donkey Kong Land. I thought Pokemon was horribly boring and traded her for DK. Early that next year (1999, I think), I was so jealous after watching her play Pokemon that I asked for Red version for my birthday. The rest is history.

The Christmas that Gold/Silver were released there were two identical presents under the tree both labeled "Ben or Bess." We opened them and picked our flavor. She decided on Gold so I took Silver. A lot of my pokemon memories are linked with time spent playing/trading my sister.

Re: Shin'en Multimedia Defends The Wii U Hardware

I dunno. This game looks so much like F-Zero it's a bit odd.

Great to hear someone speaking some truth about the Wii U though. That's always been my main argument. Graphics can only go so far, and the Wii U's graphics aren't too shabby, so if you bring nice games to the table, it should be fine.

Re: Review: Star Wars Episode I: Racer (Nintendo 64)

I was in love with this game. It was what I went to after getting everything I could in F-Zero X. I greatly enjoyed the need to repair ships and ability to buy used parts for cheap, it gave an extra dimension to the game.

I remember none of my friends liking it though, which lessened it's value a bit because nobody ever wanted to race me. :-/

Re: Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today's Gamers?

mikeyman64

This article makes me so sad. This game was the first "epic" adventure I had played. I think I was 12 when I beat it. That was back when there was Gamefaqs (very early stages) and Cheat Code Central. I played through the game and only used the guides later to get better at speed runs and collect 100%.

Kids are babied these days so much with the instant gratification of Google and never-ending tutorials (or "helpers" that tell you what to do. I'm looking at you Skyward Sword!!!) that it's rare to see a kid try anymore. "Dang, there's this door, and I don't know whether to shoot it or approach it and press X... I need the internet."

Re: Insomniac Not Working On Wii U, Considers It More "Current Gen" Than "Next Gen"

mikeyman64

I've played Spyro since I was a kid, but only on the Playstation. I could honestly care less about any Insomniac games on the Wii U.

Honestly, like hydeks said, Nintendo has followed a cycle of sorts for many years, especially on its non-Japanese fronts. However, everyone (not only fanboys) appreciates it and continues to buy and play Nintendo games. All new IPs and 3rd party games have been added bonuses. Microsoft wants a game, they buy the dev team that makes a good one and market it through "MS Game Studios." Sony, (while not entirely outsourced) makes bank on exclusives from other developers. Nintendo thinks up a new idea and usually ends up slapping some blue overalls and a red hat on it or giving it a sword and an annoying fairy. It's just their way of doing things, and it has worked for 30 years.

So give the Wii U a break. It may only see a splash of third-party support, but does anyone who still buys Nintendo products (fanboys or not) really care?

Re: Rumour: The Recent Wii U System Update Has Boosted Clock Speeds

mikeyman64

@hms Wow, I really hope you didn't just cause a bunch of ignorant kids to brick their Wii Us... not cool.

Oh, and define "HD" for us. Hate to get into a petty argument, but I find it annoying when people diss a game for not being 1080p. Technically, the term "high definition" relates to anything beyond 480 pixels wide. Some would even call 480 with progressive scan a type of high definition. 720i (which hasn't been used since the early "HD" days) and up are all considered "HD" and few can tell the difference between them due to the immense amount of pixels and identical aspect ratios.
