Oh and @shuis , I love that someone mentioned Nintendo coming up with the first true digit analog stick for a gamepad. Very fun fact to throw into the fray.
Honestly, what drew me into the first AC game for GCN was the enchanting feel of the game presented by the Animal Crossing interactive website. It was probably the first time a website campaign actually intrigued me so much. I wonder if one of the internet archives has that site somewhere?
Anyway, every AC game that has come out I have purchased due to that same feel of enchantment. I hope this one brings as much laid-back splendor as it's predecessors.
@Nintendude789 It makes sense that Hatena needs the money for the service. I suppose people just aren't used to sub fees from Nintendo.
Oh, and, while I haven't been an XBL subscriber in about a year (partly due to the stupidly high price), comparing the cost of it to flipnote is apples to oranges.
I honestly don't really understand any of this. I get flipnote, but was Nintendo losing enough money from the way it was that they would have to charge? Albeit the amount is small, and I guess the answer is yes since they are charging, but I'm still fairly confused.
It's been predicted for a while. What do you do when graphics aren't the only area you can improve? Only Nintendo seems to know, because they have always been the road of innovation. They brought the gaming industry back to life with the NES in the states, let's see if they can keep it alive with the Wii U.
I remember renting this game at Blockbuster so many times. They would always lose the little grey key thing to take the expansion out with so I would have to use the expansion bay lid. I probably rented this game and Banjo Kazooie so many times I could have bought them twice. /shrug
I wonder if the reason Microsoft announced the ONE early is because they want to know how the crowd thought of the original ideas. They may come back at E3 and say "just kidding guys! We listened to you and changed how we're gonna do a lot of things." I can see a company like them doing a 180 even if it cost them a bundle.
I don't think it's all too likely that a new Metroid Prime will come out. Looking at how Iwata treated the Prime trilogy in the official Metroid timeline and all, I think Nintendo sees it more as a spin-off series.
That being said, Metroid Prime was probably my favorite Gamecube title, and my second favorite Metroid title next to Super (the GBA games are fantastic too!). So I wouldn't mind at all if we saw more Metroid rather than a new IP.
Don't think someone that clueless would give the effort of actually beating the game. That game was hard and long when it first came out, but it's still one of my favorites.
I will say, as complex as the game might be it is nothing compared to the first two. Both Metroid and Metroid II were very vague compared to all of the more recent ones.
I remember when my sister and I got Game Boy Pockets. I got Pokemon Blue and she got Donkey Kong Land. I thought Pokemon was horribly boring and traded her for DK. Early that next year (1999, I think), I was so jealous after watching her play Pokemon that I asked for Red version for my birthday. The rest is history.
The Christmas that Gold/Silver were released there were two identical presents under the tree both labeled "Ben or Bess." We opened them and picked our flavor. She decided on Gold so I took Silver. A lot of my pokemon memories are linked with time spent playing/trading my sister.
@TysonOfTime Thanks for the links. That really puts them in perspective. $50 is still a really nice price for some great desk bling though. I'll have to think hard about this one.
I dunno. This game looks so much like F-Zero it's a bit odd.
Great to hear someone speaking some truth about the Wii U though. That's always been my main argument. Graphics can only go so far, and the Wii U's graphics aren't too shabby, so if you bring nice games to the table, it should be fine.
The only way I wold be upset is if it was a true Banjo platformer. Perfect Dark died with it's single release, and I'm more of a fan of Street Fighter than I am of KI.
A Viva Pinata release would make me a tiny bit jealous, however I can't see anyone calling a that a "historic" IP.
Makes the most sense. Also, looking at the price of a simple pokeball at 100pd each, that would hardly cover the cost of something as complex as an Environmental, honey we shrunk our Pokemon, room. One would think.
I was in love with this game. It was what I went to after getting everything I could in F-Zero X. I greatly enjoyed the need to repair ships and ability to buy used parts for cheap, it gave an extra dimension to the game.
I remember none of my friends liking it though, which lessened it's value a bit because nobody ever wanted to race me. :-/
This article makes me so sad. This game was the first "epic" adventure I had played. I think I was 12 when I beat it. That was back when there was Gamefaqs (very early stages) and Cheat Code Central. I played through the game and only used the guides later to get better at speed runs and collect 100%.
Kids are babied these days so much with the instant gratification of Google and never-ending tutorials (or "helpers" that tell you what to do. I'm looking at you Skyward Sword!!!) that it's rare to see a kid try anymore. "Dang, there's this door, and I don't know whether to shoot it or approach it and press X... I need the internet."
One of the greatest sound tracks of the N64 if you ask me. I still try and play thru Banjo 1&2 at least once a year. I enjoyed N&B(as much as one could) and Gruntilda's Revenge as well. So sad to see Rare sell out.
I've played Spyro since I was a kid, but only on the Playstation. I could honestly care less about any Insomniac games on the Wii U.
Honestly, like hydeks said, Nintendo has followed a cycle of sorts for many years, especially on its non-Japanese fronts. However, everyone (not only fanboys) appreciates it and continues to buy and play Nintendo games. All new IPs and 3rd party games have been added bonuses. Microsoft wants a game, they buy the dev team that makes a good one and market it through "MS Game Studios." Sony, (while not entirely outsourced) makes bank on exclusives from other developers. Nintendo thinks up a new idea and usually ends up slapping some blue overalls and a red hat on it or giving it a sword and an annoying fairy. It's just their way of doing things, and it has worked for 30 years.
So give the Wii U a break. It may only see a splash of third-party support, but does anyone who still buys Nintendo products (fanboys or not) really care?
@hms Wow, I really hope you didn't just cause a bunch of ignorant kids to brick their Wii Us... not cool.
Oh, and define "HD" for us. Hate to get into a petty argument, but I find it annoying when people diss a game for not being 1080p. Technically, the term "high definition" relates to anything beyond 480 pixels wide. Some would even call 480 with progressive scan a type of high definition. 720i (which hasn't been used since the early "HD" days) and up are all considered "HD" and few can tell the difference between them due to the immense amount of pixels and identical aspect ratios.

Yeah, I know what you mean. As much of a gamer as I am, and always will be, I still have to admit that the gaming community is full of hypocrites.
