Re: Violent Video Games Blamed for Knife Attack in Scotland

Obviously the parent's leash was pretty long (if existent) due to the kids early "activity." All that tells us is that, chances are, they didn't give a grub's butootie what their kid was playing, therefor rendering M$'s rigorous parental controls about as useful as a Lancer with a bicycle chain.

Still, terrible what happened. Wish the victim a speedy recovery.

Two best moments: 1. Flying Pikmin, the amount of strategic possibilities is astounding.
2. Zelda stuff. Loved the old Oracle games (played the GB/GBC games before I had a console.) Would be great to add them to my virtual library. Plus the new Zelda game looks pretty interesting. Anxious to see more.

Re: Woman Finds Extremely Rare NES Game At Goodwill Store

My best GW Finds were: Megaman 1&3, Secret of Mana and Mario RPG all in one visit, then another time I found Secret of Mana in mint condition (everything but the original plastic wrap). I've found other good stuff too. Just takes some dedication and a little faith.

Re: Feature: Reimagining The Wind Waker on Wii U

I read about this in an email from ZU. I was very excited to hear about it for several reasons.
First, one of the primary reasons I loved WW, was because of it's sense of exploration and vastness. The new HD rendering will undoubtedly enhance this aspect, making the game even more immersive than before.

Second, any chance to play a Zelda game with the GamePad is a good one. The maps and menu system can only get better. Plus, with the massive camera side quest in this game, the GamePad could make the game come to life with point and shoot features. The TingleTuner was always a fun feature to me, so including that in the game's built-in functionality (and not having to look for my old GBA-GCN cable) would be great.

Lastly, the music. Apart from the nostalgia attached to the sound tracks from Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past, Wind Waker has some of the most well-rounded and beautiful music of all the Zelda games. Hearing this music enhanced and at its prime quality would be a treat indeed.

All in all, a great way to help us wait for the next installment.

Re: Talking Point: The Future Role of High Street Games Retailers

I'm sure this has been commented on somewhere up there ^^^, but one aspect of gaming that game stores can still profit on is classic/retro gaming. Around here, there are Play'n'Trades, which have new releases, but specialize in the rare and old. Apart from taking in trades for ALL games/systems, the employees are sent out to thrift stores and the like to find old games, as well as scan eBay and Amazon, etc. to find good deals.

This makes it more convenient to the customers that already know of ebay buying, by not having to wait for shipping or for auction times, and those who don't, by giving them a place to buy the games they remembered playing back in the day.

Heck, I constantly scan online auctions for games to add to my collection, but a I also am willing to pay a possible extra buck or two to pick up a copy and play today.

Re: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Scares Its Way Onto The 3DS March 24th

Apart from Luigi's Mansion being a fun game, I remember associating it with the joy of obtaining a new console. It was the first game I remember seeing a demo of when the "Dolphin" was in the works, and then I remember it being one of the first games I played on the after-named Gamecube. Can't wait for the much awaited sequel.

Re: Miyamoto: Pikmin 3 To Be More Like Series Original

Another thing I noticed about the time limit was that it, at least for me, greatly increased the replay value of the game. 1 is definitely shorter than 2, however after adding up the time spent on improving my score with 1, it greatly exceeds the time I've spent on 2.

One of my favorite elements of a game is the replay value. Beyond getting a bigger bang for your buck, if a game has greater replay value, it tends to stick with you through the years.

Re: Miyamoto: Pikmin 3 To Be More Like Series Original

I was literally just talking about this with someone while playing Pikmin 2. I got Pikmin 1 on release day when I was 11 years old, and I absolutely loved it. The first play through I got 29 parts in 30 days. Now I'm down to getting, I think 30 parts in 10 days (haven't worked hard enough to get the famous 8-day).

The major problem I had with 2 was the fact that you never felt rushed. It was like playing Tetris, only the blocks never dissappeared, and there was never a ceiling to hit. It was fun, inspiring, and a very good game, but it seriously lacked in giving the player a feeling of urgency, purpose, or satisfaction, if compared to the first game.

I am waiting on Pikmin 3 to buy my Wii U. I played the demo at the pre-release expo thing a few months ago, and as far as the standard Pikmin functionality goes, the game feels great (and looks fantastic in HD). I can't wait to see how well the old feel is implemented again. Way to go, Miyamoto, for bringing back the true feel of your series!

Re: Entire SNES Game Collection Up For Sale

mikeyman64

I saw the N64 version of this sale about 2 years ago on Craigslist. They wanted $7,000 for the whole thing. I was only missing the boxes to about 5 games, but everything else was pretty much CIB. Didn't have the money, or the space for it at the time.

Re: Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf Drop Into Q2 2013

mikeyman64

Pikmin 3 looked very nice at the Wii U pre-release expo. The controls were sharp and it played very smoothly, like it's predecessors.
However, there's only room for improvement in my eyes. This game will be the primary reason I buy a Wii U, so I don't mind waiting for excellence.

Don't let us down Nintendo!

Re: Latest Iwata Asks Episode Reveals Why Paper Mario Sticker Star Abandoned RPG Elements

mikeyman64

I purchased this game at school a couple weeks ago. I was bored, and needed something to do. I have always loved Paper Mario, and I was slightly disappointing when I got about an hour into the game.

However, after getting roughly 10 hours into the game, the sticker system begins to feel more natural and less like a card-based RPG like Baton Kaitos or Chain of Memories.

The lack of a deep "story" is hard to even notice since the game play is so fun. The way the bosses and enemies grow more difficult along with gradually stronger stickers, and a more impressive collection, works quite well, and never feels unbalanced or broken.

Beyond that, there are a couple other aspects that I enjoy such as the object collecting (reminds me of Pikmin) and the different Boss/Sticker couples that add a bit of clever puzzle-solving to the game. There's also a sort of achievement system that is fun to work through.

Excellent portable Paper Mario, IMO.
