Re: WiiWare Publishers Lament Release Date Shambles

lockelocke

Depressing, though not surprising.
Luc Bernard recently made a comment on his blog about the WiiWare release of Eternity's Child. Something to the effect of, he has no idea when it will be released, its all up to the PUBLISHER.
Thanks, Ninty!

Re: Major League Eating - New Screenshots And Video

lockelocke

The biggest problem I see with crap games like this is that they limit the amount of quality titles that can be released each week.
Otherwise, I would say, Go for it, Embarrass yourselves, Mastiff developers.
But, because Nintendo only delivers a couple of WiiWare titles a week, the appearance of a game like this so early in the service's life is a bit scary.

Re: US VC Releases - 26th May - Metal Slug

Nice! Maybe I can finally fulfill my childhood Chuckee Cheese dreams of beating Metal Slug 1...
City Connection review is a bit harsh, its a fun arcady title, good if you like Burger Time/Dig Dug esque type games.

Another week, another slew of elitists putting down other people for having opinions.

Re: Review: LostWinds

Its been asked, but...
Has anyone collected all 24 treasures? Is there a point?
I missed 2, and I'd be all for hunting them down...as long as they actually do something. Which would be a let down, you know, if they just did...nothing

Re: Review: Star Soldier R

Bought this game an hour ago and just broke 800,000. Its a perfect 10 in my book, can't stop playing. And I haven't touched 5 minute mode!

Re: Hardware Focus - Commodore 64

@thewiirocks
There's a lot that went into the game industry crash of the 80's. Saying that the Commodore caused it is giving it a lot of credit. Don't forget about the financial collapse of Atari after over producing millions of copies of ET The Game. Also, at the time people were becoming discouraged from throwing their money at Intellivision and Voyager consoles that would be systematically updated and reproduced every six months or one year or so. But I wouldn't say the Commodore helped, thats fo sure.

Re: Beer Pong - College Drunkeness Is WiiWare Bound

lockelocke

WOW, people. Pretty heated over this game, are we?
Look, just because DK Math came out on the VC, I didn't turn my back on the service. And Soul Caliber Legends isn't going to cause me to boycott Capcom or new SC games in the future. That said, I think WiiWare's credibility is still very much intact. This game just looks crappy.
Really, I'm not that surprised. After all, Nintendo made a big deal about using the Wii as a tool to appeal to "non-gamer" types, it was pretty much the mission statement of the console. And actually I can imagine a market for this game, probably one born out of novelty interest, but whatever, it will sell copies. Personally, though, I don't see the draw. Who wants to play a round to Beer Pong that doesn't get you DRUNK?

Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX

No single player scoreboards is a big frown face for me, but the demo and online play are a plus. Not that it matters much, as soon as my girlfriend hears about this game, she will, without a doubt, somehow coerce me into buying it. And proceed to hand my ass to me on a plate, I suck at this game.

Re: Review: Star Soldier R

AH! Stop talking about Ikaruga!
Now, look what you've made me do, just copped it on Ebay. Another chunk of my paycheck vanished...Used to own this puppy, easily one of my top five games. I used to walk around like BLACK BLACK BLACK WHITE WHITE WHITE BLACK BLACK BLACK, can't wait til it gets here.
As for Star Soldier, I love the idea of scoring against the rest of the world, seems like it would be better to cop it soon, while people are still interested and posting scores.

Re: US VC Release - May 19th - Sky Kid

You'd benefit from getting it when it comes out, for online play. I feel that already online Brawl battles have been neglected for Kart races, and who knows how long people will be racing it up before boredom or a new game hits.

Re: Review: LostWinds

@Senhal
I could not agree more. I rarely get to play for a sitting longer than an hour, so playing an RPG takes about as much commitment as a long term relationship. I used to be all about em when I was a kid, and I'm glad I got my FF3's and my Xenogears over with before the real world started to kick my ass, because I just have no time.

Re: US VC Release - May 19th - Sky Kid

lockelocke

Yeah, I feel you. It seems the difficulty of games has let up a little in recent years, probably to include casual gamers. That's a lot of fun, though; Ten years later, returning to a game like, "Oh, I bet I could school that game now" only to find its just as hard as you remember.

Re: US VC Release - May 19th - Sky Kid

@konderdoodle
that burglary I mentioned? Both my original Mega Man 2 cart AND my copy of GC's Mega Man Collection were stolen. Burn! Its been a while, but weren't the graphics updated on the Anniversary Collection? I'd rather play the original cart graphics, takes me back to those good ol days, five years old, with a PB&J, kicking Bubble Man ass with my jammies on.

Edit: Just looked the game up, saw it has original graphics. Memory scramble.

Re: US VC Release - May 19th - Sky Kid

lockelocke

I don't think there's anything UNFAIR about the VC, but I do think its painfully slow. I love the VC, bought my Wii FOR the VC, and yet I've got a few mixed feelings about it. Nintendo was very smart to only vaguely describe the workings of the VC in the months leading up to the Wii's release. Ninty promised a download service that would make available classic games from past consoles by a wide array of different developers; this sold me off the bat, as I had just lost probably around 100 games for different consoles in a recent burglary. However, the details about how the service would work were cleverly omitted from description, prompting people to imagine a massive library of classics available for instant download; what they got instead was a few games a week. So, I do, I do, I do-ooo, love my VC, do doubt. HOWEVER, I'm still waiting on some titles that I had anticipated downloading on the Wii's launch date. I mean, I had to beat motherfu****s at Costco just to get this bad boy in my living room, and through the whole exhausting ordeal, I had one game on my mind, one I still ain't got, Mega Man 2.

Some of the best multiplayer action offered on Genesis, an absolute classic. Hip hop aliens = Five Stars

Re: Review: LostWinds

lockelocke

I don't get the price to length ratio issue. If we can assume that the Lostwinds sequel is to be as long as the first installment, and the price is the same, we have a six hour retail quality Wii game for $20 bucks. I just might complain about a six hour game for 50 bucks, but six hours for $20 seems like a bargain buy, especially when the quality is up to par with most and beyond the caliber of some retail Wii titles. After all, how long was Mario Galaxy?

Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?

lockelocke

It seems like Square-Enix is treating the VC as a dumping grounds for Intellectual Property they feel has lost its value. That would certainly explain why we've only seen the more minor of S-E's license catalog appear on the VC (not to diss Actraiser, an old favorite of mine!). While the statement by Tsuchida & Shiraishi seems to imply that the VC is a less profitable forum for releases, it makes sense to me that if Square-Enix really is judging games on an individual basis, and deciding which platform is best for rerelease, a lot of titles (like SMRPG) that have a high demand for release on the VC might benefit from this 'strictly business' philosophy that says, "may the most profitable console win!"

But, I can see how the VC might fall short of maximizing profit, when you consider that the current Final Fantasy DS remakes, which could have been sold without any graphical updates for 5 dollars a pop (or 8?? Have they put out any Super Famicon FF's on DS??), are instead being sold for six times that amount.

Re: Review: LostWinds

lockelocke

Not to stray from topic, but the ability to personally rate these games (like on vc-reviews) would be nice. I came here to give Lost Winds a hella enthusiastic 10 out of 10. I'm loving these controls, which are not AS dependent on the Wiimote as I had anticipated, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that, although they're not changing the way I look at gaming controls, they do represent an unbeatable blend of Wii brand motion sensitivity and classic analog stick platforming. Intuitive, allowing you to dive right into the game, without being too easy, or making puzzles/obstacles seem predictable. Highly recommended.

Re: North American WiiWare launch games

lockelocke

Looks like a couple quality titles mixed in with a lot of filler
What a huge shock!
I mean, I never expected Nintendo to start a download service, promise a bunch of sick games, and then release over a painfully slow period of time amidst a ridiculous amount of filler! Completely unheard of!

PS: (@Jace) I ain't complaining about the service; I've been stoked on WiiWare since day one, and I love the idea of smaller developers getting the chance to take a crack at a platform which reaches millions. Just thought I'd put that in as to not be confused with, you know, all those, how did you eloquently put it? "Average" video game bloggers. Nah, I'd rather be on your team, with all the "extra ordinary, super charged, high powered, always in the right" video game bloggers. Son, I'm all grown up, and I didn't pre-order Earthbound, but I played it when it hit the US.

Re: The Legend of the Mystical Ninja

lockelocke

Haha, "overlooked the fact that the game was unplayable", thats funny.
Hate me, but I kind of agree. Always gawked over this game in Nintendo Power when I was young, so I bought it first thing when it dropped on VC. But, alas...boring, too many shops...

Re: Metroid

lockelocke

I totally understand this argument, but don't quite get what the use of judging these games by today's standards is...
I mean, if I wanted a game that was great by today's standards, I would buy a game that came out a little less than twenty years ago.
