The Grudge was actually based on the movie Ju-On, hopefully this is an adaptation of the original japanese film and not the lame american remake starring buffy the vampire slayer. In any case, I'm in agreement; proper horror games have kind of vanished since the RE franchised started building games around combat instead of atmosphere. FEAR was a great combo of combat and atmosphere, tho, much props
Um, I beat Link To The Past when I was close to 5 years old. I think the franchise has always been directed at a very wide audience, and has always done an excellent job at incorporating challenges for those who can handle it, while still allowing younger gamers to complete the main quest. I have been concerned with the diminishing amount of optional equipment and quests over the last few entries, tho.
@Eugene Nice call on the beam of light! I kind of was looking at it like the output of some outerspace type jet engines, but its starting to look like a beam of light to me. Bit.Trip Beam?
cell-shading doesn't really bother me, its actually a good way to take of advantage of the Wii's less than spectacular visuals. its mediocre sequels to already mediocre games that bother me; lets hope ubisoft can dig Red Steel out of the grave its in.
The Wii is totally full of kiddy games, and the small handful of excellent M-rated titles isn't convincing me otherwise. If Red Steel 2 doesn't use the motionplus, it seems like a pretty useless sequel.
Well, even if homeboy isn't down to contribute, I'd be down to see a Wii Starfox, under the condition that Nintendo picks the franchise back up from Namco or whoever did the GC installment.
Even so, I am praying for an eventual release of Starfox 2 for the SNES.
Steve is the man, while Billy Mitchell is the epitome of all things pathetic and evil. Mitchell probably faked that new high score, he's a shady punk. If they throw that on TV, I will be watching and rooting for you, Steve! See the film if you haven't, it's touching to a stupid degree.
daaaaaamn Looks pricey, but worth it. Hopefully between this game, World of Goo, and Bit.Trip, we'll start to see the bar on WiiWare games raise a bit, I was worried the service was going to dig itself a grave with all that shovelware
@retro_player_22 Having played FF1 as a wee 5 year old (my first RPG...aaaah, memories) I'd much rather play it how it was upon initial release. When I downloaded Zelda for the VC to give it another go, for old times sake, and saw that corrected spelling, it totally pissed all over my nostalgia fire.
@ Mickeymac Why would that be a joke? I mean besides homeboy's overzealous method of expressing his less than humble opinion, I totally agree. Kefka is the ultimate badass. Evil makes him laugh. Sephiroth, on the other hand, has a complex about his origins and is taking it out on a world full of people he can't relate to. Don't get me wrong, I love FF7, but I can't agree that FF3 (it'll always be FF3 for me, just can't bring myself to call it 6) is boring. If anything, I was HUGELY dissapointed that FF7 removed the feature of a seperated party that underwent simultaneous but seperate plotlines. But the game made up for it with one of the most classic magic systems ever implemented, so, in conclusion: Different strokes for different folks, FF1 and FF8 are my favorites, anyhow.
Just pick up the challenges, if they don't kill you within like 30 seconds, they make you better.
At first, the blue dots were a huge source of frustration for me, but what I've discovered is that your eyes start to adjust to the onscreen mania once you've been playing for a bit, plus you learn the patterns. I don't really think it's unfair or punishing.
Still trying to get through Descent! HUGE PROPS ON THIS AMAZING GAME, easily the most addictive game I've played since Tetris Attack or Goldeneye, can't put it down.
@Adamant I'm with you, homie, best game on WiiWare, easy
Good review, but daaaaamn, Matt, you stuck it to em. With words like 'awful' and 'pitiful,' 'average' and 'dissapointing' being flung about with such fervor, I bet these guys are crying on eachother's shoulders right now. How do you sleep at night, sir? Nah, I'm just playing
Onslaught seems like it may be a worthwhile download for gamers who only own a Wii, and are therefore barred from the selection of quality shooters on the 360/PS3. Beyond that, it'll have to be seriously impressive to stand out in the herd. Still, I'm curious and definitely open to more FPS titles for the Wii. Bring on The Conduit!

Re: Nintendo Fandom Downcast At Revelation That Miyamoto Is "Not God"
damn, so all that praying has been a waste...
a mere man, yes, but homeboy is a visionary, I still root for him
Re: Ju-on: The Grudge Officially Coming Stateside
I'm hella stoked, Ju-On is one of my all time favorite horror flicks, plus the survival horror genre is a little bit of a cold fish these days

Re: Contra ReBirth Announced, Approaching
Hell yes, I hope we see a lot more of these franchises coming back from the dead

Re: Gun-shaped Wiimote Announced
hell to the yes
Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)
@nice_shirt
I concur: Onslaught is shallow and ultimately lacking. Boss fights are nicely done, tho!
Re: East Meets West In Red Steel 2
Motionplus support! A glimmer of hope

Re: New Bit.Trip Game Teaser Image
They could call it Bit.Trip Your Mom as long as it kicks as much ass as the first game. Put me down for an instant purchase.
Re: Mad Dog McCree Coming To The Wii?
How are you gonna start digging up obscure FMV shooters? We don't even have Duckhunt! Save it, Ninty!
Re: MadWorld
This game is high art. Super recommended. A short campaign, but milks replay value with a good array of twisted score based challenges.
Re: Game Play Trailer - Icarian: Kindred Spirits
@AlexSays
I'm with you. It looks boring and bland.

wasn't AlexSays blasting anyone who thought it MAY be possible that this would make it past Japan? haha, looks dope!

Re: The End Of The World Starts In Europe
Nice, have fun. One of my personal favorite Zeldas. Dare I say it? Yes, I like it more than the super praised Ocarina.

damn, wish I got this instead of Onslaught (yaaaawwn)

Re: Review: MadWorld (Wii)
This is for sure the next Wii game on my list. I heard the campaign is only like 5 hours long, true?

Re: Ten Arcade Games We'd Like To See On The Virtual Console Arcade
It would be cool to see some early 90's style beat-em-ups like Turtles In Time, The Simpsons, and X-Men, but above all else, we need some MS. PAC MAN
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Bonsai Barber
whack
Re: USA VC Update: Super Punch-Out!!
Best release since Life Force, yeaaaaaah

PS - Auto-retargeting is for chumps
Re: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord
Sounds cool, kind of a RTS/Tower Defense -ish thingy?
Re: Final Fantasy Finally Coming to VC
Hell to the yes! I cannot wait to download FF1 and be 6 years old again.
Re: Video - The Making of Bit.Trip Beat
Woooow, I'm totally shocked this game only took 4 months. Shouldn't be too hard to get a sequel on the tracks, eh, eh?
Re: Review: Bit.Trip: Beat (WiiWare)
Growth is kicking my ass up and down the block.

Re: Review: Bit.Trip: Beat (WiiWare)
Dude, this is easily the most creative and impossible to put down game I have played in ages. I wouldn't hesitate to pay another 6 bucks for a sequel.
Re: Adventure Island: The Beginning - First Video
Sorry, but as a long time fan of the Adventure Island games, I must admit that this looks pretty close to absolute crap.
Re: Brand New Harvest Moon Series: Ranch Store Screenshots
what is this? Harvest Moon: Shovelware Store? I'm soooo sick of minigame oriented Wii titles. C'mon!
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Gradius Rebirth
holy ish! definitely the release i was anticipating the most.
only 1 player tho? frowny face
Re: USA VC Update: Commodore 64 Launches With Three Games
FIIIIINNAAAALLLLYYYYYY
Cheers, my UK brethren
Re: Adventure Island: The Beginning
Nice, I'm glad the game received a little touch-up without any major overhaul to the core of the game itself. Same basic game, new look, works for me.
Re: Rumour: EarthBound Not Coming to Virtual Console
what an effing burn

Re: Mr Driller Tunnelling His Way To WiiWare and DSiWare
Instant buy. I have Mr. Driller for the PS. Just a stupid amount of fun involved.
Re: Diatomic: Microscopic Arcade Action Madness
my eye is officially caught
Re: Life Force
5 stars easy
Re: USA VC Update: Life Force
FIIIIIINNAAAALLLLYYYYY
Besides Tetris Attack, this is my # 1 most anticipated VC game. Hell to the yes. Finally, a quality co-op shooter for the VC.
Re: Review: Onslaught (WiiWare)
wow, that 9 was totally left-field, did not expect it at all. I was gonna blow my next 10 bucks on Lit, but I may hold out.
Re: Pulseman
meh, too much platforming, not enough shooting

burn
