Re: Super Metroid

Missed this one the first time around, but being a huge fan of Prime I gave it a shot. Easily in my top 3 SNES games, spend money now! If you've played Prime, but no classic Metroids, pick this up; its really interesting to see how nearly every detail of Super Metroid was translated into Prime.

Get Ready
Got more wear than any of my SMS carts (or cards), IMO the best SMS title out there, kicks Space Harrier 2's ass up and down the block. Cop it!

Nice to hear someone speak out against the usual cries of "7 DOLLARS!? TOO EXPENSIVE!!"
I never have understood the harsh way that people tend to evaluate the worth of these VC and WiiWare games based on price (which has never exceeded 15 dollars!) I can spend 7 dollars at Taco Bell, no problem

Re: Mega Man 9 Is Coming To WiiWare In Retro Style

Wow! It looks like a whole lotta Megaman virgins are about to get they're cherry popped. Have fun with that, kiddies.

I think the most exciting part about this is that it opens the door to new games being developed for old hardware, or the release of games that were finished but scrapped before release (cough) Starfox 2 (cough)

Maybe even the fabled Socks The Cat Rocks The Hill for SNES and Genesis.

Re: Mega Man 9 Is Coming To WiiWare In Retro Style

Is Capcom developing this? In any case, this is the kind of out of the box thinking that all WiiWare developers should aspire to. Great game ideas like this exist everywhere but are never fully realized or are never delivered to the consumer because there simply isn't a place for them in the retail market. Instead of a bunch of minigame-esque shovelware, I hope to see some more original ideas like this, that simply would not exist if it weren't for digital distribution.

Re: Microsoft Befuddled by WiiWare

lockelocke

I understand Nintendo's approach, it works to ensure quality control. But, I must say, this Microsoft dude has a point. Why not let everyone download development kits, and then select the quality submissions for release. Of course, this could result in too much content coming through to reasonably filter or even look at each game. But...if you're going to claim that you're a forum for independents...

Re: Xiotex Amazed By Reaction To WiiWare Rebuttal

He was simply pointing out the contradictions between Nintendo's WiiWare mission statement, and reality. Hey, I agree that Nintendo has a responsibility to uphold quality control, but they also have a responsibility to back up what they say. They claimed WiiWare was a forum for smaller developers, and even invited this guy to London's WiiWare summit before rejecting him. I think the main issue here is that they rejected him after evaluating his company, instead of evaluating his proposed game.

I think his only misstep was titling the entry "WiiWare is a lie." Besides that, the blog entry is really merely an observation.

Re: Otakugate – The Saga Continues

I think the main point was that he was writing off a storage solution on a handful of nerds, which is alarming to hear from a Nintendo employee, considering we pretty much ALL need one. He basically turned to his consumer base and said, "You're a bunch of nerds if you want to save more games." Is Nintendo really THIS out of touch with us and do they really care THIS little? It was this feeling I got from his comment which pissed me off, not really what he said or the words he used.

Re: Xiotex Amazed By Reaction To WiiWare Rebuttal

There's nothing whiny about it. Nintendo said one thing, and did another, and he simply made a note about it on his personal blog. I say, if calling that to attention causes people to confront Nintendo, its all for the better. Maybe Nintendo will finally learn some follow through.

Re: US VC Release - 2nd June - Ninja Combat

The US won't get any good VC releases until the dollar holds strong again????
Sorry, thats just hilarious. What, are you watching Oliver Stone's JFK while reading The People's History Of The United States, and looking at a 9-11 conspiracy diagram? Please!
A company dealing with a product with an average 4 year lifespan would not seek to gain profit by barring one of their most profitable regions from quality titles INDEFINITELY!! Plus, that makes no sense, as they would be barring us from quality WiiWare titles and quality Retail titles...

Re: North American WiiWare Top 10

Dude, people are sleeping on Star Soldier.
This is where Try-Before-You-Buy would come in handy. It seems a lot of people are apprehensive about SSR due to the time attack only nature of the game. I was guilty of speculation, too, but as soon as I played the game, all fears were dispelled. The sheer quality of the gameplay let me know my 800 points were well spent.

Same with Lost Winds. A 3 hour campaign is preventing people from throwing 10 of their hard earned dollars at Frontier. If people had the chance to demo these games, I think they'd be less inclined to throw their money at whatever seemed like it was the BEST VALUE and would instead go for the BEST GAME. But because we're all shooting in the dark here, the best bet seems like a game like Dr. Mario or Defend Your Castle, because these games ooze replay value, there's no question of getting your money's worth. Help a brother out, Ninty!

After playing the undeniably awesome Star Soldier R, I am definitely interested in any SHMUP action offered on WiiWare. Review, please!

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - June 2008 (Super Mario RPG!)

@Stuffgamer1
I see where you're coming from with the price thing. Which is probably why Square hasn't taken the chance to dump their catalog onto the VC, selling the early Final Fantasy games for 500 points a piece is huge bargain, when you consider the ratio of money you spent on the game to the time you WILL get to spend on the game.

As far as comparing Mario RPG to the FF series, I agree with Viral, how can you compare them, really?
After beating FF3 for SNES, I was ready to the throw in the towel with RPGs. I loved them, and yet I was sick of all the items hidden in various shelves and pots, and having to anally check everything everywhere I went, and I was sick of taking 30 minutes to walk a distance that should've taken five seconds, but takes FOREVER because of all the random encounters.
BUT! It was Super Mario RPG that allowed me to enjoy an RPG experience, without kicking the crap out of me and being SUPER DEMANDING at all times. No random encounters, secrets that you can (usually) go back to if you missed them the first time around, a world map system that did not incorporate battle, etc, etc...
SO, I think Super Mario RPG is the perfect RPG for a casual gamer that wants an RPG experience or just an RPG fan looking for a bit of a more laid back experience. If I hadn't got this refreshing breath of relaxation from Mario all those years back, I don't think I ever would have started up FF7 or FF8, but by the time I finished Mario, I was left WANTING all those over-the-top elements typical to the RPGs we know and love...

Re: WiiWare Publishers Lament Release Date Shambles

lockelocke

Nintendo's main problem is that THEY ARE SLOW.
They were slow to enter the era of CD based games.
They were slow to get online like their competitors (with the Gamecube instead boasting, WHAT!? GBA CONNECTIVITY!?)
I can already tell, this Wii memory issue is going to be an uphill battle, and a slow one at that.
As far as release dates goes...they seem to be a bit of an abstract concept for Nintendo. Even with retail titles, dates are scheduled, then postponed, then postponed some more. I think I waited somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 years for Twilight Princess, from the very first screen I saw online to the launch date of the Wii.
Its definitely a positive that Nintendo has already acknowledged the storage issue and promised a solution, but lets be realistic, we might not see that solution for another year.
