Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

lockelocke

WOW, the wait is over. I feel like this should cut out like a third of all VC related bitching and moaning...Oh, wait, not counting my fellow Americans. Anyways, I'll be skipping this one, still have two carts (probably should have sold one, too late now!) but its great to see a classic getting the light of day it deserves. Enjoy, all.

LOL, yeah what a load of bull

Re: What's New In The World Of Goo?

lockelocke

Man, I was just thinking yesterday, "Where the hell is that Goo game that was so hyped up a few months back?" Really excited for this one, sounds like production is nearly complete. Now, we just need to overcome the beast that is publishing!

Re: Tumblebugs

Great, just what we need. A clone of a game that's already out on a service that, to date, only has twenty-some games. Hopefully next, we'll get another table tennis game and a few more Arkanoid clones. I'm glad some publishers are keeping it real, releasing original and groundbreaking stuff, because some of these companies are just seeing it as another chance to cash in on the same old sh*t.

Re: Gradius Rebirth

@Big=Sexy
Lifeforce, man. They don't make 'em like that anymore. That freaky last boss gave me nightmares as a kid.

I would've preferred a graphical update a la Star Soldier R, but in general I love this idea of old franchises getting new installments that look like they could have come out a decade ago. Keep it up.

Re: Crescendo

I'm always excited for games that integrate music, but not many of them are good. I'm not a fan of the whole Guitar Hero/Rock Band fad; I'm a musician, so to me these aren't really music games, they're more about watching the notes move down the screen and hitting buttons when you see the notes hit the line at the bottom. Same with DK for GC and DDR.
To me, music games should be about what you HEAR, not what you SEE.

I loved Electroplankton, though it wasn't really a proper game. The field is wide open in this genre, and this sounds promising.

Re: USA VC Releases: Mega Man and Neo Turf Masters

@Adamant
LOL, keeping a video game on hard is what men should do, thats funny stuff, man

But, yeah, I totally agree, Mega Man's difficulty doesn't live up to the legacy. I never thought it was hard as a kid, and didn't hear about it being "so hard" until much later. Mega Man 2 was actually one of the few games that I could complete as a 5 year old, though that freakin puzzle-ish boss with Crash Man's weapon (after you beat all Wily's robots) took me a minute to figure out.

Has anyone broken a mil on 2-minute mode?
I've been stuck as 998,000 for like two months, I mean how on God's green earth could you possibly score any higher? Pointers, anyone?

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (20th August)

lockelocke

Aw, sorry Toki. At least the other quality titles are hanging in there amidst a sea of mini-game type stuff. If mini-games are what the people buy, mini-games are what the publishers will release, so I'm glad people threw their money at Strongbad, because it opens the door for more cult releases.

@WiiRocks
Exactly, just look at Strongbad.

Re: Square-Enix Gets Invaded!

lockelocke

The little description of the game posted above has really sold me on the game, even with the ridiculous DLC catch. I love the idea of battling with tanks and other military gear, instead of just wreaking havoc and blowing up buildings, which is initially what I thought the game might be.

Thinking about it, maybe the DLC thing ain't so bad. I mean, 500 points is a great starter price, and then we have the option of moving up to the next level when we're ready to. For example, I've owned Star Soldier R for months, but I was so intent on breaking a mil in 2-minute mode, that I hadn't even played the second level until two days ago. So, if the gameplay has the right level of replay value, taking it one level at a time may not be a bad thing, especially since the game has online scoreboards. I know that I'll for sure be focusing on score rather than getting on to the next level. Lord knows I love me some online scoreboards.

Re: Last Flight - Artwork!

I love point n click, but skipped on Strongbad, this looks like just the fix I need. Also, I'm extremely excited for a proper M rated title on WiiWare, haven't played a decent horror themed game since RE4.

Re: Defend Your Castle

@Virus
WOW, VS, now that's an idea. That's a cool flip on the whole concept, training and deploying units against an opponent's castle. You could even have a single player mode like that, call it ATTACK, or something.
But I'm pretty sure you should hang on to that kidney, I think they're important, or something...

[EDIT] Interactive catapult? What would that be like?

Re: Defend Your Castle

lockelocke

@Virus
I couldn't agree more. The Up button on my D-Pad is BEGGING for a spell. Seriously, if some DLC labeled "FOURTH SPELL" magically appeared one day, I would throw my wallet at the screen.
Still, there are, in a way, a few extra "modes" of play. Large units, small units, and catapults only scenarios are all available through the credits option on the main menu.
Small units are a serious BITC--um, er, hassle.

Re: Review: My Aquarium (WiiWare)

lockelocke

I'm strangely tempted. Always wanted fish as a kid...
Hudson is really controlling the WiiWare service, releasing a lot of varied material, which is cool because people who like Star Soldier R may not be the same who like My Aquarium, but Hudson is providing for both audiences. Not to mention the upcoming Bomberman and Alien Crush games. Other publishers should really study up.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Strong Bad Episode One

@Raptor78
Thanks! Monkey Island, now that was a kick ass game. I loved all the Sierra stuff that I got a chance to play, used to have the super old King's Quests and Space Quests on my Apple 2. Thanks for the link, but unfortunately I can't run the Strongbad setup EXE, cause I'm still running a Mac 15 years later, lol.

Re: Luc Bernard Quits Videogame Development

lockelocke

It's OK to retire, just come back in a bit, like Jay-Z!
Sucks about the bad press, though, it seems like they're being haters just to be haters. The artwork oozes quality, I can't imagine the game being a big letdown. 1/10!? That's putting it on the level of like a Pixar movie game or like a Zack & Cody game, ridiculous

Re: Splatterhouse 2

lockelocke

My mom used to have to drag me out of Blockbuster the month they put this game out to play. Personally, I dig the lack of vertical movement. I think it really sets Splatterhouse apart from the other great side scrolling beat em ups of its time, its a cool challenge. Dig the horror movie feel.

Re: Mega Man Finally Out On Monday In USA

lockelocke

Hey, I'm standing with the "can't stand the reversal of jump and shoot in the Anniversary Collection" crowd. I traded my Anniversary Collection based on solely on the switch, which I know a lot of you think is stupid, but, yo, the original controls are just ingrained in my head, so when I jump on the Anniversary Collection, I'm constantly jumping when I want shoot, y'know? That's what happens when you've been playing Mega Man since FIVE YEARS OLD. And for all of us long time Blue Bombers, WHY WOULD YOU SWITCH THE ONLY TWO EFFING BUTTONS IN THE GAME?

Re: OFLC Update: Wonder Boy in Monster Land

@David77
C'mon man, you're behind the times, we've already complained, now we just sit around, defeated, hopelessly waiting for a good game to come out. But, yeah, We all need some Flashback and Out Of This World lovin
