Re: Surprise! Football Manager 2019 Touch Has Just Launched On Nintendo Switch

If this has all it's UI issues sorted I'll be purchasing immediately. I haven't played FM properly since I was a student 10+ years ago, and I don't have time for the super in depth direction it has gone recently. To be honest I just wanna buy wonderkids from 3rd division Brazilian sides for a pittance, play 4-4-2, and take Accy Stanley to the premier league title.

Re: Reggie Defends Continued Support Of 3DS Line, Believes Next Gen Of Players Need To Start Somewhere

@MH4 this is great, I have a 2 year old and I'm not letting him near tablets (for games, I don't mind him watching movies on them). I've seen other nieces and nephews spending hours in front of awful tablet games that they play for 2 mins, uninstall, get an another, play for 2 mins etc etc. I bought an old DS Lite recently and I'm letting him play Mario and Tetris. He obviously cannot play them, but he recognises that pressing a button creates some sort of reaction on the screen which amuses him. I really want him to be into good quality games that we can play together, I cannot bear the thought of him becoming some Candy Crush/Infinite runner moron while I'm sat on my sofa playing Mario Kart alone!

Re: Team Cherry Has Cancelled The Physical Version Of Hollow Knight

jcvandan

@Valdney this is a crazy attitude, first of all do you really think somebody is ever going to take a digital game away from you somehow? And second, you're literally missing out on some of the greatest games ever made because of this stance. I sort of get where you're coming from but it doesn't seem worth it to me, and this is from someone who always buys physical when given an option.

Re: Photorealistic Graphics Didn't Match Welcoming Nature Of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee

I like the sound of this, after reading the preview last night I went and preordered it. I haven't played a Pokemon game since yellow, mainly because I don't like JRPGs. As soon as I read there would be no random battles, and that the esoteric grind had been removed I thought it's for me. Should be a nice enjoyable chill game to play over Christmas along with occasional bouts of Smash. I also went and preordered NSMB U to play with the wife to try and cheer up a depressing January. Some good Nintendo times a coming!

Re: SEGA AGES Sonic The Hedgehog - Feel The Need For Speed (Yet Again) On Switch

jcvandan

@Rotroid Basically what you are saying is that is meant to be sluggish. I'm not a hardcore Nintendo fan, I have various consoles and if you read my follow up you'll see that I was a Sega kid back in the 90's. Platformers are 100% about how they feel to control, you can pick almost any platformer, particularly modern ones, and they are responsive and feel great to control. Sonic doesn't. I don't give a hoot if it's meant to feel how it does, it feels bad. And why does expressing an opinion mean I'm throwing [removed]?

Re: SEGA AGES Sonic The Hedgehog - Feel The Need For Speed (Yet Again) On Switch

jcvandan

Yeah I'm not saying the levels aren't well designed, Sonic just feels so awful to control. It actually stresses me out when I lose momentum because it's tedious to get going again. I think it would be way more enjoyable if Sonic was zippier to get going! I've been playing Mario Bros NES since the online service launched and that's the complete opposite, such a joy to control. And this is coming from someone who was a Sega kid back in the day.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows The Harsh Reality Of Playing Dark Souls: Remastered In New Trailer

jcvandan

@mj2k18 Level/world design, environmental storytelling, risk reward mechanics, obtuse world building, lack of hand holding, these are the things people bring up consistently other than difficulty. If you're asking people you personally know why they like it, they probably don't know to speak about games in a way which can communicate what they loved about it so they just fall back on the most obvious thing about the game.

Re: Nintendo's Brand Relevance Rises In The UK, PlayStation Still Most Recognised

@frodouk to be fair you make a serious point, there has been issues of intolerance surrounding Brexit. I haven't seen any of it because I live in the north and not in a city, and I imagine the worst of it happens in London. I just find it surprising that someone would leave the country because of it, I'm pretty sure all these problems will be sorted in a few years once Brexit is in the past. Just out of curiosity where did you move to?

Re: Space Harrier Is Joining The Sega AGES Line On Switch eShop

jcvandan

@DM666 I agree, I have had a real hankering recently to play some ps1 and dreamcast classics but I have a backlog of bloody amazing games on the switch and ps4 so I never get round to it. Although I did play a few hours of resi 1 one night which was fun and gave me serious nostalgia.

Re: Review: Hyper Light Drifter: Special Edition (Switch eShop)

jcvandan

@Donutman I totally agree, I'm just personally fed up of those traits in games at the minute. And I did say 'my games' in my comment, which implies I don't want them, not that I don't want anyone else to have them because that would be silly. And I think it's reasonable to complain about something if you don't like it, regardless of whether other people do.

Re: Review: Hyper Light Drifter: Special Edition (Switch eShop)

jcvandan

I bought this day 1 on PC but I've just double dipped. This is a phenomenal game. The thing that really differentiates it from other similar indies is the game world. It's full of cool secrets and it rewards exploration with meaningful rewards. The combat is lovely as well, initially it is difficult but in no time at all you are swooping around the screen destroying enemies. Going on holiday for a week in October so I will be sat on my balcony at night with a bottle of whiskey playing this gem .

Re: The Nintendo Switch News Channel Took Almost A Year To Create

jcvandan

@EasyDaRon it seems that way but think there's probably a bunch of stuff behind the scenes, a UI to create new stories, some sort of API to feed stories out to other channels, a database to store everything, some cloud based setup that can serve millions of users. Plus I guess they aren't using a common well known framework to build this. Not even considering the inevitable redesigns that came from feedback. I'm a software engineer and it's surprising how little small team actually does in a year when you look back on it. It's a tough job.
