Re: 505 Games Is Publishing Suikoden Successor Eiyuden Chronicle, But A Switch Release Is TBC

The game looks great, but the idea that it's too much for the Switch to handle seems ignorant. Maybe if it's not optimized and you're using needlessly resource-intensive visual effects, but visually it doesn't look very different something like Octopath. We have Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch, but it can't handle this? Yeah, I'm not sold. Game looks great, but let's not be ridiculous here.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night On Switch Had Biggest Response, Sales Were "Well Above" Expectations

I'm hopelessly hooked on this game, even after finishing it twice. It's got some less-than-exciting design early on in the game, but it's a good ol time for Castlevania fans and the Randomizer Mode gives the game exponentially more replay value than any of the official Castlevania releases (talking about commercial releases, not the absolutely rad randomizer mods for the handheld 'Vanias).

All that being said, for Switch being the platform with the most sales, it's still busted as all get out. I'm lucky if I can get through a sitting with less than two hard crashes.

Re: Poll: Does Resident Evil 4 Really Need The REmake Treatment?

gwardojones

Not if they're going to try and make it an annual release like RE3. RE2 was a good starting point for these remakes, but the back half was a bit shallow and it sounds like RE3 is even worse about those issues. If they're not going to take the time to make sure RE4 is as sharp and intense as it was at release, I'm not at all interested in it.

Re: Review: Good Job! - This Laugh-Riot Feels Like 2020's Answer To Untitled Goose Game

I went in to this one looking to create carnage, just like the Direct suggested. But it was actually when I started trying to complete the levels that I was really cracking up. There's something about trying desperately not to cause any chaos that makes spilling an entire coffee tray on an auditorium full of employees so much more rewarding.

That and trying not to destroy shipping containers with a claw machine only to destroy most of them with the same claw machine.

Re: Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Might Be Released On Switch Next Week

gwardojones

Oh thank god! Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast has not aged well and that's largely due to its over-reliance on switch hunting and gun play--two things it doesn't do very well.

Jedi Academy, on the other hand, is a really streamlined experience meant to get a lightsaber in your hands and get you out doing Jedi stuff asap. The levels are more like playgrounds and the combat is awesome. I can't wait to play through this again!

Re: Bloodstained Axes Roguelike Stretch Goal, Will Replace It With A New "Randomizer" Mode

gwardojones

I'm cool with a randomizer mode, but the options here seem a little lackluster. There is no option to randomize enemies, nor is there one to randomize what order the rooms appear in. I know these would cause balance issues, but call them "Chaos Mode" and move on. Playing the Dawn of Sorrow randomizer with random room and enemy orders made that game endlessly replayable. Here's to hoping that they consider doing something like that for players who have already mastered the base content.

Re: Here Are Two Teaser Posters For The Upcoming Monster Hunter Movie

Never have I been more bothered by the existence of a movie than this. Normally if you disrespect a franchise I love with bad films, I can brush it off. But given the pedigree of this director and his "undying respect" for the source material of his work, I'm expecting a train wreck that will break my gentle, MonHun-loving heart.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest II: Luminaries Of The Legendary Line - The 'Difficult Second Album' Of Enix's Classic Series

Just beat DQ1 and had a good time with it. It's definitely not the best way to play the game, but Dragon Quest is still a good time on its own.

So far, DQ2 is an improvement over one. The sprites with each other blend a lot better than in DQ1. The encounter rate has been super high on the world map, but that actually might be because I keep wandering off the plains into mountains and forests (the game warns you that these places are full of monsters at the beginning of the game, but I took it to mean there were tougher monster. Now I think it means there are higher encounter rates on non-plains tiles, but don't quote me on that.

Are there better ways to play DQ? Yeah, for sure. But these games are still fun and interesting in their own right. If you've ever loved the early DQ games or are a fan of old school JRPGs, this will certainly entertain.

Re: Capcom Looking To "Awaken" Past Franchises After The "Indisputable Successes" Of Resident Evil And Monster Hunter

gwardojones

Power Stone, a new Breath of Fire, and some Mega Man X titles would really make my day. Wouldn't mind seeing a new Lost Planet either, so long as it's not that terrible-looking western-ass Lost Planet 3. I by no means hate western devs, but going from a weird, unique HIGHLY Japanese shooter to a bland, by-the-numbers western action game was not my favorite choice of Capcom's.

Other than that, sequels to anything Clover made would just make my day.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest - A Classic JRPG Marred By Odd Choices And Technical Issues

gwardojones

I'm playing through this now and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The art style doesn't so much clash for me as it does remind me of old Japanese PC games. That's a really specific example, so it may not have the same charming effect it does on me. It would have been really nice to see a speed-up or zero encounters option like we're seeing in the Final Fantasy Switch ports, but overall this has been a fun, pleasant, surprisingly open-world experience.
