Yay! I'm always happy when one of the new e-shop games I'm playing that I love gets a great review There have been some awesome Virtual Console e-shop games lately! I am loving this 8-bit Summer thang. This is a wonderful, forgotten little gem (to me, anyways) I've never heard of it. Back when I had a GameBoy I would have loved playing this had I known about it. I give it an 8/10, for great music, level design, replayability and addictiveness.
Can't wait for this I'm a sucker for Mario titles, even if they are kinda the same as other ones lol There's always something new in each one, I've found, and its enough to keep me interesting, shelling out $40, and playing
Hells yeah! Playing it now (and I've never played it, which is strange since I'm a huge Gameboy/retro gaming/Mario fan) and so far, it's living up to its high rating on here With Mario games, though, you really can't go wrong! A+
OK. I am eating my words up above. I took the plunge... as an old Basic programmer (as a kid in the 90s) I made several programs... like Mr. Bojangles on my TI Home Computer (haha, anyone remember those? Probably not many do here.) Anyways, I downloaded Petit and I am actually enjoying it. I'm enjoying other user creations, actually. There are many many websites (mostly Japanese) with QR codes and such. For instance, i just played the best DS version of Missile Command I've ever played on a Nintendo handheld! haha. I would love to dabble in programming again. So just maybe, one of these days, when I have the time... hrm...
This isn't the T.I. Basic that I grew up with and made programs back in the day on my Texas Instruments computer, I'm sure. And even if it was, no thanks.
Already got em all! Who on Earth would wait for those fantastic releases? I'm sure most ppl who wanted them (except for new customers/new adopters of the 3DS XL) would already have grabbed those titles. Howabout releasing a new Mario title on the e-shop (like SMB 2, VC) to coincide with the NSMB2 release?
I don't care if they offered triple the points, or quadruple, I would not buy a digital retail cartridge download! I like the portability and case cover art.
My suspicions confirmed. Sure, it's only 1/6th of the 2 GB SD Card that's included, I have a 6 GB card I think, but I still want a retail game cartridge since I want to be able to pass it around to friends and family and keep it for years to come. I am a little wary of NIntendo's e-shop policies and handling of transferring titles, esp one as big and expensive as this one. Retail for me, still, I'm afraid.
In a word: Hell no. Ok, that's two words... Not only will a digital download take up a massive amount of space even on an SD card, but I want the dang box!
@TwilightPoint Agreed. Physical cartridge for me, as well. If the offer were better or if they offered a game I didn't have, I might bite, but I still want/need the physical cartridge!
I got this game and love it. I think the review is a bit harsh, but that's just my opinion. I urge everyone to read other reviews, watch the game video on the e-shop and make up your own minds.
I'm surprised you give this game an 8/10 when NL gave Kirby's Pinball Land such a lower score. Just goes to show the reviewers can have different takes on games. I've also seen this game and Kirby's scored totally opposite on others sites. As virtual console games go, this one seems visually limited, but I also love games of this genre (old RPG's) since I love vintage games. One of my favorites was the old Star Wars game on my old Apple IIC back in elementary school! This one seems cool, too, I'm sure I'll get it in the next few weeks. Thanks for your review and I love what you do, just confused by the scoring as of late.
I'm playing the games I got over the last few days, all are pretty fantastic: Johnny Kung Fu, Kirby's Pinball Land, Mighty Switch Force (for $2.99!) and I'm still loving Art of Balance: Touch! Some great games have come out recently!
Oh wow. In my opinion, you totally missed the mark with this review. (This is my opinion of course, the review is yours.) However, I would give this game at LEAST a 6/10, I think it's lovable and charming, very fun and has a lot to offer on many levels. So I would encourage everyone to check out other reviews too and make up your own mind. I love vintage Virtual Console games and pinball, this one is great.
Since upgrading to my 3DS as an early adopter (and selling my DSi) I can't imagine a gaming world without it. My 3DS is my primary gaming system. The only other gaming system I play with is my old Atari 7200
Got this earlier today and I am totally loving it. Much more addictive to play and fun than the previous Kirby game (imho) I would give this one a 8/10. Fantastic!
Thanks for this article! I will definitely be an early adopter of the 3DS XL and I can't wait to get my hands on the bigger screen and more comfortable controls
Just got "Johnny Kung Fu" and so far, it is shaping up to be a must buy. I am loving the innovative use of Game & Watch scenes. So far, I have counted 2 different Game & Watch clone scenes (from "Ball" and "Parachute") oh, and "Donkey Kong", too, is in there
You really can't blame geeky gamers. Some of us are very very young, some of us are very illiterate and crazy, and the rest are normal and smart (like me) lol! jk, ok maybe not
Wow! It's a game packed day! Makes me glad since we had a few weeks in the not so distant past with only 2 crappy downloads. This summer is shaping up to be awesome! Can't wait to get the 8 bit titles! (and $3 for Mighty Switch Force is a must buy for those who don't have it!)
Basically, these are the individual games off of the Nikoli Pencil Puzzle 3DS release, right? Why not just buy the whole game instead of individual bits and pieces?
P.S. Back in the day, I think my Mom and Dad paid like $30-40 for that original NES Golf lol And I played the heck out of it. When I hear the sound that the ball makes when you put it ("mroooooooorph!") it makes me chuckle inside.
Great review! It looks like I may be in the minority here but as an older retro gamer, I absolutely LOVE this game, and I also love the original NES "Golf" which is available as a VC game (via Gameboy) in the e-shop. I have so many memories of both games that its hard to describe my love for it, but this game is, indeed, better than Golf, but both bring me great enjoyment. Thanks for giving it the high score that it deserves.
Hey gang, this game is on sale used on Amazon for under $20! And at Gamestop. Just make sure it comes with the box! You can register it at Club Nintendo for coins if it has the registration card inside like mine did.
I just got this on sale from Gamestop for $15, and it's well worth the price! I am LOVING it !! My favorite is Free Flight mode. I love flying around the island at night. So pretty. Oh yes, and I can't wait to finish more missions. Now, what's this about a Squirrel Suit? I think this is a fantastic game, well deserving of 8 or even 9 stars

Re: Review: Decathlon 2012 (DSiWare)
Cinemax is iffy.. I do remember slightly enjoying Sokomania, though, even though it got blasted here, as well.
Re: Full 3DS Retail Downloads Have Teething Troubles
@Stuffgamer1 I totally agree. I don't mind having cheaper 3DS/DsiWare on my system, but larger titles? That's what cartridges are for!

Re: Review: Tumble Pop (3DS eShop / Game Boy)
Loving this, loving this, loving this. What a bizarre little title.
Re: Petit Computer
Yeah, this isn't real basic. At least I don't think. The basic I wrote with as a kid was a little less user friendly. lol
Re: First Kart Krashers DSiWare Trailer Skids In
It might look a little bad off, but that don't mean its not fun! I'll let ALL the reviews roll in before deciding on purchasing, though.

Is migrating your 3DS games and data to the new 3DS XL really as "painful" a process as is described here? What does it all entail?
