Re: Nintendo Embraces Opportunity To Share New Games At E3 2019 As Sony Opts Out

dumdum

There's really not much Sony will show, so they're better off saving that cash and spending it on an E3 where they have something new to show. I doubt they'll stay away forever, and E3 itself is big enough for some giants to skip years, as long as said giants don't stay away forever.

It's not a big loss on either side for next year's E3, just Sony doing due diligence with their finances, like any financially prudent company would. Let's not make a mountain out of this mole hill.

Re: Octopath Traveler Crowned Nintendo Game Of The Year At Golden Joystick Awards

Guys, voting for the Golden Joysticks are done by the public, so it stands to reason that the most popular games get the votes. Heck, you probably have a number of people creating dummy accounts to vote more than once. Wait for actual critics' awards if you need something to nitpick.

Also, I felt that Spider-man's story deserves a nod over God of War's. My personal, non-critic opinion, of course.

Re: Check Out Thai Martial Artist Tony Jaa In Capcom's Upcoming Monster Hunter Movie

@Tsurii World did sell a metric ton of copies compared to any other Monster Hunter, so it stands to reason that any director would draw from that entry if the goal is to sell tickets to people familiar with the source material. And well, the goal is to sell tickets.

Sorry that the designs didn't cater to your personal preference of Monster Hunter entry, but among all the things they could get wrong with this film (and they seemingly will botch many), the selection of source material isn't.

Re: Fortnite Is Teaming Up With The NFL To Bring Customisable Team Outfits To The Game

The NFL's trying to market its way to other media. They've been seeing a decline in viewership since 2016, so what better way to ensure the viability of their huge business by tapping into the next generation of kids who play Fortnite?

Honestly, though, the NFL will still be viable for many more years even without this. It's the leagues like NASCAR who should've tried doing this to maintain awareness of their product.

@Mamabear I base it depending on how many hours you're gonna sink into the game and use that skin. Avid players can easily spend upwards of 300 hours in multiplayer games (and that's even on the low end), so I'd think that paying for cosmetics you'd use in even just a fifth of those hours is reasonable if you're really into said MP game as well as whatever team you're supporting.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Just Got A Whole Lot Deeper Thanks To The 'Spirit' System

dumdum

I loved the trophy system, but I can see how that's a feature that needs a whole bunch of manpower to pull off which might have threatened the planned release date of Smash well into next year, which wouldn't have sat well with Nintendo execs who were banking on Smash to be THE game for the Switch this whole year.

Turning it into the spirits feature is fine with me, as long as I'm able to read about the history of each character somewhere. As for competitive balance, I figure there'd be a way to turn it off in matchmaking preferred rules for the purists out there.

What would really please me would be the addition of the trophy system post-game as an update (though highly unlikely).

Re: Morphies Law Had Disappointing Launch, Devs Planning New Free Content To Bring Players Back

dumdum

@NewAdvent It seems like when they thought of this game, they didn't think Paladins or Fortnite would ever come to the Switch, or at least not before they launch, so they didn't have a business model that's akin to what those two have (free game, then pay for cosmetics sort of deal). The moment those two games entered the picture, Morphies Law was instantly dead on arrival with its pay for the game model.

The competitive shooter market is already a tough one to crack (whether it's team-based or battle royale), there have been bigger studios with veteran names that tried and failed (Lawbreakers, anyone?). Coming in with a paid game model when many market leaders are free-to-play is just asking for trouble.

Re: Hardware Review: NS Glasses 3D VR Headset for Switch

dumdum

The main problem exklim has is that they're forcing games to look 3D on a display and games that don't support it. Until Nintendo themselves issue a software update to have a VR mode on the Switch (whether it's by actively shifting images around real-time for passive glasses to work or take the Cardboard approach of splitting the screen in two), any third-party claiming to have made VR work on the Switch on their own is just selling snake oil at this point, even if that's not their intentions.
