Unless you've been living under a rock, you will have no doubt heard the news that the most anticipated Switch release of the year - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - arrives on 7th December.
To help ensure maximum hype levels are reached before the launch, Nintendo has released a new trailer promoting the date of the game's availability. Running for roughly one minute, the trailer shows the extensive cast of characters while playing the epic Smash music in the background. Unsurprisingly, there's no sight of the supposed leaked characters.
Take a look at the trailer above and tell us if you'll be picking up or downloading Ultimate on day one.

Yea thats good and all but did you know that we are calling these characters "echo fighters"
This is a non-spoiling trailer so of course any additional characters not yet reveal won't be seen here.
Hmmmm... a new trailer the same day as the potential roster leak? Well played, Nintendo.
I'll probably download, no idea yet. Guess it depends on the size, and how much space I have left on my card.
Hypeeeeee
I already own it... they just need to send it to me.
(I mean it’s paid for already.)
@wiggleronacid
Exactly the same thing I was going to say.
Sure, some promotion is nice now that we're drawing ever closer to release, and while this kind of deconfirms the Smash Direct/Nintendo Direct we're so desperately waiting for - especially in the wake of what Sakurai said - the timing behind this is a tad suspicious to say the least.
The "don't listen to the leak, this is the new promotional material you were waiting for" feel of it all is slowly getting me to join "team real".
Do we really need more possible character reveals? The game is out soon, we’ll all find out then.
If Nintendo ever published a DVD or Blu-ray of all their Smash-related CG trailers and the Subspace Emissary cutscenes, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I can't wait to get this and Pokemon out of the way, so that we may (hopefully) get to hear some news about Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4
You’re a bit late, this trailer has been on switch’s nintendo news channel for about two weeks already
@AiZekas
NL, comment-posting-wise, has been acting screwy in the past few minutes. You have some accidental multiple posts to delete, but the message got through - though I'm not going to edit the mutual references in-between today's Smash articles out of my comments for coherence's sake.
What happens if players use a Final Smash at the same time?
Now put a trailer and in TV and show it loads!!! ... In the past 2 week I've seen about 1000 ads for cod 4 lol
@Sabrewing haha I said the eggsact same thing about month after Brawl came out
@Franklin I assume you mean for the Smash meter option. If so, whoever activates it first gets priority. Then the next final smash activates after the first one finishes, and so on. No simultaneous final Smash activations.
@AlexSora89 I don't see how this deconfirms a direct, be it a Smash direct or a Nintendo Direct with Smash announcements. He previously said he would reveal all characters before release. He also didn't say character reveals would stop either. He just said they would slow down, which was probably referring to how frontloaded reveals were earlier.
Not to mention, he still has other game features and content that he could elaborate on in a direct. Like the mysterious "spirits" mode everyone is speculating on. Which he'll want to do before Smash launches. So it's a guarantee we'll get Smash announcements before launch. It's just a matter of when in November it happens.
I'm more surprised how NintendoLife didn't report on the leaks, or if they did, the article was promptly removed.
Playable demo?
I needed this HYPE to remind me that the game is available in 2 months.
Still no mention of the single player mode and the game goes on sale next Friday in the $359 Switch bundle.
If the single player mode is really called Spirits Nintendo needs to promote it next week as a tie in with Halloween and the Day of the Dead.
@Ttimer5 Did you notice that Pikachu Libre is a girl?
LEMME HAVE IT!
I hope those leaks were not all accurate. Sakurai hates leaks and, as silly as it sounds, I wouldn't be surprised if he took them out just to spite leakers. He did get rid of smash 4's story mode for said reason. So who knows.
Hmm, that's earlier than I expected. Cool! Already got it preordered
@Regpuppy
What I take from this is that either
1) the leak is fake in containing too many characters
or
2) Sakurai lied to our faces once again, in a good way as always.
Unless there are going to be, like, three Directs next month, there is no middle ground.
Nice! A little too short of a trailer for me. Still great, though.
@AlexSora89 There's also
3) Subtlety was lost in translation from Japanese to English, and we misunderstood exactly what he meant.
4) He was purposely vague. He wasn't clear in his wording.
Regardless, I'm not sure I believe the Grinch leak like everyone else. There are a lot of fine details that seem off to me, and a lot of people seem to defend it because they want it to be real. Rather than because of the evidence itself.
@whanvee "Samurai"
I laughed, because My auto-correct does the same thing, regardless of how much I tell it not to.
@Regpuppy
The off details aren't lost on me either, but this doesn't make the leak any less believable. Swap the Chorus Kids with a Pokémon newcomer and you get a 100% believable leak.
Out of curiosity, though, what did you get out of what Sakurai said?
@Regpuppy I'm gonna pretend it wasn't a typo and I meant to call him that because he is just that bad A$$,lol
@AlexSora89 What I got out of it? That he was slowing down the frequency of announcements, but he didn't specify how much exactly. It's unclear if this was in reference to characters or general Smash content either. So that's why I said he was unclear and/or purposely vague.
The only definitive statement we got from him on this is that all of the characters would be revealed before launch. So, if there are more characters in the base roster, that means November is his last window to reveal them. How many characters and how much other content? No idea.
@Regpuppy
I can't wait for the Direct to put an end to pre-release speculation. It's unbearable at this point.
@AlexSora89 Yeah, it's pretty much just a few overzealous groups arguing that their favorite leak is right and anything to the contrary is wrong. Mostly because they have characters they like.
I'm crossing my fingers for that rumored November 5-12th direct to be the final Smash direct. Just so everyone stops arguing about the leaks.
I also can't wait for Smash to release, so that the news cycle isn't so dominated by it. It's a bit exhausting now, and I want news on things like Metroid and Luigi's Mansion. Lol
@Regpuppy
Thing is, it doesn't "dominate" news as much as it fills them with speculation.
On the bright side, though, LaxChris hasn't reported the nth fake leak (yet), so at least I can assume 4chan is giving us a break.
Super pumped for this coming Smash, but I'd have to say Smash 4's main theme is better, assuming this upcoming game uses a variation of the trailer music as its main theme. Regardless, looking forward to all the remixes of game themes. Those are always a blast.
