EA does not have to sell FIFA or NHL to Nintendo hardcore fans. It is pretty clear that (the most of) Nintendo hardcores do not care about "AAA" titles. Despite what many here likes to say, they do no even care about innovation and creativity, since they missed (not entirely their fault, mainly Nintendo) almost the last 10 years of video-game industry's progress (about graphics, mechanics, genre, game-play, online features). Despite keep asking for something new, top sales on Nintendo consoles are always achieved by the most "vintage" franchises. Take the Wii, were NSMBWii outsold a true innovative gem as Super MArio galaxy 29 millions vs. 11.5.... On WiiU, despite all the love, games such Bayonetta, TW101, ZombieU (the only game that really showed us how great was the gamepad) had not so enthusiastic sales numbers.

I say this not to generate flames or criticize personal tastes, but to steer the discussion towards a different point of view: EA does not have to sell FIFA, NHL or NBA to Nintendo fan. It won't success in this, Nintendo audience do not care, like they do not care about other AAA titles. It is Nintendo that has to show (with the help of third parties) to non-Nintendo gamers that NX will be a console well worth their money. Nintendo has to modernize and introduce new franchise too for them. A good step has been done with splatoon. Another one could be made by giving us a "21th century" Metroid Prime with fps/rpg mechanics, a truly open-world Zelda, some new IP that will introduce to Nintendo fans the great possibilities that relies in massive online games. This will help Nintendo hardcore fans to "open their eyes" on different genres that now they despised, closing the gap to the rest of the gaming world. On the other hand, by having on their side big AAA producers, they will also attract other gamers to Nintendo franchises, allowing them to play their favourite AAA games together with Zelda, Marion and company.

As I said in another post, with NX Nintendo definitely has to choose what it wanna be: a "vintage" glorious company catering mainly to nostalgic Nintendo fans and keep selling 10 - 20 million(being optimistic) consoles per generation or "invade" the modern gaming world with old fashion IP, brand new modern one and lot of 3rd parties, catering to everyone who really love video-games, aiming to compete with Sony (I belive MS will leave console market soon, or they will reduce xbox to a kind of steam machine)

@Chandlero considering time it is, indeed. But powerwise wiiU is closer to 360/ps3 than ps4/xbox1 unfortunately... So I believe is not easy to heavily optimize it for low spec hardware

@Chandlero i believe is not so easy to port an 8th gen game to a 7th gen one with different architecture and limited power, being an indie... It also depends by the engine that has been used.

I guess his hope is that NX will be more powerful and similar in architecture to ps4 and xbox1

NX could be aimed as first, 'definitive' console for gamers, in which case they need EA (and ubisoft, activision, bandai, etc etc) or can be another 'mainly nintendo' console, in which case they can survive unifying 3ds and wiiu developers, but they will have to cope with again not exciting sale numbers. Only with competitive price they can become a succesfull secondary console for xbox and ps4 owners, but i fear the compentition of VR will be strong, if NX launch is targeted end of this year/beginning of the next one

If NX will really be released soon, this sounds like a major problem and a possible cause of future software draught.

If it is not the case, I can see that Nintendo is still so picky and very annoying in dealing with 3rd party devs...

EA is right here.
Nintendo has lost all the gamer community except Nintendo fanboys and families with little kids.

While Mario is the company's banner, I believe Zelda has more potential to innovate within Nintendo's world...full 3d, more RPG mechanics, open world even MMO features could be introduced into franchise. Mario looks more stale and attached to the platformer standard

I hope these rumors to be true.

It will be very hard for NX to be less powerful than consoles released 3 years before, but with Nintendo you' ll never know...

I believe Nintendo must put all efforts in consolidating its handheld dominance and, at the same time, find a way to create a home console (or the home part of NX) that will become a desiderable "companion" console (read "secondary") together with Ps4. They have no chance to fight Sony and Ps4 right now. They are entering the market too late (considering 8th gen) or too early (9th gen) in the home console market. They have to find a way to: first, "force" 3ds owner to upgrade to NX portable and then from there go on with the NX-home

When (the great) Divinity original sins has been ported from PC to console through the Enhanced edition (new zones, addons, control schemes, updated mechanics), PC user were able, the same day, to download all the extra contents of the consoke edition, for FREE.

@mjharper i wonder how they could screw up a multiplayer that should be basically dogfighting....

It looked very ugly before with poor graphics, then the control scheme was disappointing and clunky as some journalists reported after trying the demo.... In a way is good that it will be delayed, on the other endit seems nintendo has lost its touch lately.... Bad money grabbing games, lazy expensive remasters and projects that never seen an end (QoL, ZeldaU, Starfox, Project Robot-Guard...). It start to be a complete mess here...

Full game price for some upgraded textures, same amount of poligons and just a new dungeon that needs anyway a plastic figure? This is hilarious...

They were able to turn the lack of new releases in a even better milking strategy....

Too expensive for a "normal" hd remaster with no new content at all...

I voted Metroid but any new "eye popping" IP would be the best choice. No more carbon copy games from the past at launch. It needs to clearly show that is running on a brand new powerful console.

Reading that list was very disappointing for me, thinking how many great franchises skipped the wiiu and would have been a great matvh for it: Kid Icarus, Metroid, F Zero, Fire Emblem (there is no strategic game on wiiU, the console with the most strategic friendly controls ever)

As for feeding the trolls, i own a wiiu and I played a lot of games on it, i particularly enjoyed Rayman, Bayo 1 and 2, TW101, 3D world, Tekken Tag, smash, hyrule warriors among others.

It just got stale after the first year and a half, when it become clear that third parties flew away and Nintendo main worry was making uninspired port/rehashed carbon copies of old franchise and selling us amiibos in every possible way...

The crucial point, imho, is that in a brand new console lineup you shouldn t have a "more of the same" NSMBU... It does not help to differenciate the new console with what comes in the past. You need something new with a wow factor in it, and another 2d mario is not, is actually very boring.

Concerning "supposed" repetition in other franchises, they simply sell very well anyhow. 2D Mario doesn't, anymore....

@XCWarrior WiiU version is far superior, imho. It runs smooth and local coop is a blast (as for any musou on home consoles)

Bayonetta 2 is in my personal top 3 of WiiU games. Such a tense and engaging experience! It is definitely avreason to own a WiiU for me.

1) every mature game bombed on Nintendo system, including bayonetta 2.
2) you can t compare selling numbers for a launch title like zombieU with numbers from other consoles (that also have better selection of survival zombie games).
3) ps4 and xbox one not only have gritty and grey games. They have EVERY KIND of games: tons of sports, casual games, PLATFORMS, fps, tps, wrpg, jrpg, arcades, LOT of GREAT Indies and so on...

With the wiiU I had to wait 3 years to get a proper JRPG (not a game gendra typically associated to COD maniacs), while on ps4 there is already a vast selection....
Not to mention that some great colorful looking / original games already showed upon on XBoX and ps4 or are coming: Ori and the blind forest, bastion, transistor, little big planet, unravel, abyss odissey, fez, journey, the talos principle, dreams... Just to mention some).

Does not come into mind to the average Nintendo fanboy that is not that other gamers only play COD and FIFA, but that the average selection on Nintendo nowadays sucks (few great gems in a sea of repetitive Mario and co platformers, stupid casual party games with animals and remakes over remakes over remakes of 30 years old franchises)? Could it be that Nintendo actual selection is very boring and limited for the 3rd millenium gamer?

I still have to play Gravity Rush on Vita... My backlog on Sony Consoles is huge... I hope i can do it before the sequel arrives!

Gravity Rush remastered for PS4 will be 29.99$ on the official ps Store, The Last of Us remastered was at launch at 49.99$ but with DLC (standalone DLC + multiplayer with all map packs and extra contents like "making of" documentary)..... just saying.......

@BertoFlyingFox i decide to buy DLC from time to time according to what it offers to me compared to the asking price.... Here we are talking of bits of games not even worth a dlc (costumes in MK8, levels in zelda) blocked behind a DLC paywall disguised as a plastic figurine, without even giving the possibility to buy it digitally paying what is worth.

@VanillaLake it is what all matters to them. If you think about the casual gamers flocked to mobile, "hardcore" gamers are on PS4 XB1 en masse... What does remain for Nintendo? Nintendo grown up fanboys and kids/families to whom the WiiU appeals the most... So then what's better than plastic toys to cater both Nintendo fetishists and kids????

@Octane i totally agree with you. Give me the choice between buying a digital dlc for X bucks OR a physical DLC for X + Y (the cost of the plastic figurine).

First The Witcher 3's DLC is 10€ online and 20€ in the stores with 2 decks of Gwent cards (amazing, by the way)

Yes, Amiibos are physical (and pricey) DLCs and yes, we should "vote" with our wallets...

But I lost faith in the gaming community... Lot of complains about how Star Wars Battlefront was lacking contents and was overpriced, and it was still at the top of Christmas sales...
