Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Cases To Carry And Protect Your Console

WillQuan

I've got the Tomtoc case and I'm a bit confused by this bit. "The magnetic, detachable front cover lets you jump into a game without fully removing the case". Im pretty sure thats not a feature of the case, can't see anything on Amazon that mentions that as a feature and as far as I can tell, the front cover isnt detachable. I mean maybe im missing something and it is, in which case, can someone let me know how that works.

@Specters I'm sorry but if you define harassment as someone replying to a comment you made in a comment section, you really do not understand the meaning of that word. Just as you are allowed to say it performs fine, people are allowed to share their experiences in comparison. There is plenty more evidence online to back up the opinion they it performs poorly.

Also if you cared to read any of my other comments, I've played since launch and all the patches. It still runs terribly, there is no escaping that fact.

As the person above me said, the reason this is so frustrating is that there appears to be a good game in there but it's quite possibly one of the least immersive experiences I've experienced on Switch purely due to performance issues.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 1.3.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

@PJ301178 I played Violet and also from day one and I wouldn't even say the performance has improved through any patch. The thing is I understand that they drop the frames on things in the distance deliberately for performance and all that kind of stuff but the kind of issues I'm talking about are literally frame drops in pretty much every area of the game. Every single enemy base, about half of the towns and a good chunk of the world chug regularly for me.

I genuinely think at this point it truly is a perception thing on an individual level. There is no way that performance could vary system to system and version to version on this game the way some people seem to believe.

Just to clarify as well, this is from someone who has bought every mainline game in the series to date and I even loved Sword/Shield. This game has genuinely put me off buying any new Pokémon game till they can hit a decent graphical level and have the game run at 30fps minimum. I really don't think that is too high an expectation at this point.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Version 1.3.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

WillQuan

@Specters I mean that is simply not true. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show the patches do nothing significant for performance and I've played the game after every patch and it's the exact same. Don't understand what you gain from simply lying about a game. Same with the people who say "I had no problems on my Switch" as if there is a significant difference across different devices for this game, which again is just wrong. Maybe on an individual level people may not be as bothered but that doesn't mean the game performs well.

Re: Feature: 5 Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Quality Of Life Updates We Still Want To See

WillQuan

@Ascenser No one is expecting this game to look like a next gen title at 60fps, they are simply expecting a consistent 30fps and with the game looking like it does, that should be more than achievable. There are a whole host of games that look better and run better than this game on the Switch going as far back as launch titles, so there are no excuses for a company as big as TPC.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

WillQuan

@YoshiF2 Personally the performance of this new game has been dire in comparison to SW/SH, while that game didn't look fantastic the only time it lagged for me was connected to the online. The DLC also massively improved on the core game, both visually and the new areas being more diverse.

I literally walked out the door on this game and it dropped frames. The worst part of it all is that underneath the performance (which I can't ignore) is what could be a great Pokémon game. Don't take this as me sticking up for either game massively either, just speaking on the performance/visuals.

On the video, I was hoping for some patches that could sort this at least frame rate wise but I'm now not so hopeful.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Delayed Until 2023, Switch Fans Left In The Dark

WillQuan

@NinjaNicky If they competed with next gen consoles they wouldn't be cheap, probably not as easily accessible or as family friendly. So the things that make them sell now would no longer be part of the product and instead they would be the same as their 2 main competitors which wouldn't be a good plan.

I just want to say Nintendo have been following this path since the Wii because their past 2 powerful consoles before that were outsold by PlayStation and quite significantly. At this point they aren't going to change so just seems redundant to complain about it.

Re: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Delayed Until 2023, Switch Fans Left In The Dark

WillQuan

@NinjaNicky I appreciate everything you just said but it simply doesn't effect sales of these systems. Game gear and Lynx more powerful than Gameboy, PSP and Vita more powerful than DS and 3DS. The weaker system has sold more pretty much every generation with portable systems.

The Steam Deck looks great performance wise but let's not pretend it's some perfect system that has huge wide appeal like a Switch. Also the Steam Deck being able to play Nintendo games really isn't a big deal, you've been able to play 90% of their back catalog on a computer and mobile for years.

Re: Retro-Bit's GameCube Component Cable Will Save You Some Pennies

WillQuan

I got some cheaper component cables for both the Wii and PS2 off Amazon and they work completely fine. These expensive cables seem to be a bit of a rip off to be honest.

Since then I've got a CRT and everything is now through RGB as my Pal TV doesn't do NTSC, so rgb is needed for the 60hz goodness.

Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?

WillQuan

@Gwynbleidd Doesn't really apply in the same way, internet opinions just don't translate into the average consumer opinion. Most people are in the silent majority who simply don't interact on Social Media platforms, they just browse.

Even the 16k up vs 93k down completely proves it. The video has over 1m views, so only around 10% of people who watched it even reacted to it. Another famous example, Infinite Warfare has over 3m down votes on its launch trailer, still sold over 13m copies.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch OLED Model In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@RupeeClock Thanks for the information, good to know. Looking into the titles you've listed the enhancements mainly seem like gimmicks using the camera or very minor performance improvements e.g. menus are slightly quicker on B/W2. Doesn't seem like a huge improvement and for such a small number of games, the DSi really doesn't strike me as much of an improvement vs the DS Lite. The DSi also removed one of the DS' best features in backwards compatibility, so overall I'd even say the DS Lite was probably the better purchase even after the DSi's release. Don't think you can say that about the original Switch vs OLED. It's clearly going to be the best option if you are purchasing a Switch for the first time.

I do think this new Switch is a bit of a stop gap between the original and a new console which I'd imagine would be revealed next year at somepoint, maybe the year after.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch OLED Model In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@RupeeClock That's news to me, are there any games that actually take advantage of the additional power outside the camera and using homebrew? You've piqued my interest now haha

Also very strange, just googled it and the first thing to come up was a GBAtemp forum post and you were one of the first comments, weird coincidence!

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch OLED Model In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@SeantheDon29 I don't think it's a case that Nintendo can't make more powerful hardware just that historically when they have, it hasn't panned out for them. Nintendo 64 was the most powerful console when released, sold less than PS1. Gamecube was more powerful than PS2, PS2 sold 5x the number of consoles. Wii U was on par with current systems when released, sold awfully. Whereas Wii weaker than competition, sold more, Gameboy, DS and 3DS weaker than competition sold more. Its simply that weaker hardware has worked for them and the Switch is currently selling ridiculous numbers still, why change now when it works for them?

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch OLED Model In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@RupeeClock yeah but they weren't significant hardware upgrades. DS Lite was better form factor/size and screens, DSi added some storage and DSiware which didn't require more powerful hardware and the DSi XL was literally a big DSi. All of them upgrades have more in common with the OLED Switch than they do if there was a more powerful Switch Pro.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch OLED Model In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@RupeeClock I wouldn't say unreasonable but I would say that if you've followed Nintendo for a long enough time, that it wouldn't really be expected. Outside of the New 3DS, have Nintendo ever significantly upgraded a system within 4 years of its release?
