Re: Gallery: Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) In All Its Glory

WillQuan

@RupeeClock I think people really overestimate the demand for a more powerful Switch. You might see it a lot on the Internet but that is from the "hardcore" (lack of a better word) fans. The average consumer doesn't really care and that can be seen in the fact the Switch is still selling incredibly well.

Re: The E3 2021 Awards Winners Are In, But Nintendo Lost Out

WillQuan

It's almost like different people and media outlets have different preferences...

This whole debate about who won E3 has been and always will be a load of ****. Like who honestly cares who "won", I mean if I owned only an Xbox, of course Microsoft are going to win for me as I have no interest in Nintendo or visa versa. Such a pointless debate created all to generate more clicks.

Re: There Might Be A Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Sequel In The Works

WillQuan

@nimnio the only parts where I experienced significant slowdown was the large tower section where there is a bit more going on and the second to last boss (that was really bad). The bigger problem for me was the loading times which when going between rooms can be particularly long and even worse when dying/reloading. Sometimes the menu seems to take far too long to show up on screen as well. I would by no means say its unplayable(I did fully complete the game after all) and would also say it didn't effect my personal views on the game.

Re: Rumour: Get That Salt Ready, Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrid Console

WillQuan

@FTL That may be true but that ignores the other part of my comment in terms of price points. While their mobile chips may be some of the best on the market, the devices they come in typically cost 2/3x the cost of the Switch and even more in comparison to a Switch Lite. While there is a subset of gamers who are willing to spend huge amounts on powerful devices, the mass market in gaming has historically shown that a lower price point often leads to success.

Re: NPD Reveals Top 10 Best-Selling Star Wars Games Of All Time In The US

WillQuan

@brunojenso Yeah it's the two bosses after that one I believe, don't want to ruin anything for you though. Strangely I'm not normally into the big budget movie style games but I think the dark souls feel of the game is what I enjoyed. Was fantastic though and I do love a good Star Wars game, definitely in my top 3 of them alongside the original Battlefront 2 and Pod Racer.

Re: NPD Reveals Top 10 Best-Selling Star Wars Games Of All Time In The US

WillQuan

@brunojenso if it's kicking your ass now, wait until the final two bosses. I found the game difficultly not too bad after the initial learning curve, then it just seemed to ramp up massively on the last two boss fights. Was definitely rewarding beating them both mind you, one of my favourite games of recent years.

Re: One Of The World's Most Famous Footballers Is Coming To Fortnite, And He Can Turn Into A Robot Cat

WillQuan

@RadioHedgeFund if the followers of a football club thought the players didn't deserve the wages they would still buy tickets because football is about much more than the players on the pitch. People love their clubs and will go to games even when they hate the owners, the players and aren't even being entertained by what is happening on the pitch. Football is completely different to the film and music industry. To add to that, most of the revenue clubs generate in the top leagues is from TV rights which adds a whole new level to it and means people are paying for games and clubs they don't even want to see. It's much more complicated than "if they get paid it, it must be worth it".

Re: Xbox Cloud On Switch? Nintendo Won't Allow It, Says Industry Analyst

WillQuan

@duffmmann depends by what you mean in general, if speaking about value for money and in my opinion better games, I'd say Xcloud has it but in terms of tech it's really not. Stadia actually streams at 4k (some games native, some upscaled from 1080p+) whereas Xcloud is streaming from base xbox ones at 720p max, so you are getting lower quality graphics, framerates and resolutions. Stadia also runs across way more devices but that is changing soon for Xcloud. As I say I think overall Xcloud will be the better option in a year or so but tech wise, it is factually speaking a step behind.

Re: Xbox Cloud On Switch? Nintendo Won't Allow It, Says Industry Analyst

WillQuan

@duffmmann Stadia has a bad rep but the best technology by far at the moment which is rather unfortunate. Xcloud barely works for me and the image quality has been unplayable but Stadia runs pretty much flawlessly and at a much higher graphics quality. Looking forward to when Xcloud is upgraded to the Series level systems and hopefully reaches the Stadia level of tech in the future. I much prefer the game pass model for streaming games personally.

Re: There's A New Nintendo Switch System Firmware Update Coming Soon

WillQuan

@Xylnox I really don't think the store is that bad in comparison to Xbox and PlayStation. On my old PS4 the store was slow most of the time and wasn't always the easiest to navigate and since recently picking up a Series S, the Xbox store is pretty terrible as well. I think to be honest they could all do with massive improvements but it's never a priority. Same even with the Google Play store, outside of the search function everything else is pretty bad.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of DOOM Eternal On Switch

WillQuan

@nessisonett When commenting on streaming services I would advise not using PS Now which is currently the worst option available as a benchmark. I've beaten Doom and played 50 hours of Destiny 2 on Stadia and they run perfectly fine and in the case of Destiny 2, perform significantly better than PS4/Xbone versions.

Re: "Free Melee" Becomes "Save Smash" Following Nintendo's Legal Action Against Competitive Smash Bros. Event

WillQuan

I always find this argument quite conflicting in my mind. On the one hand I see Nintendos response as a logical recourse for a company protecting their IP and brand to some extent due to prior issues in the Smash community.

On the other hand, I don't get why Nintendo wouldn't see past the legal side of things and support this kind of thing, it will only bring positive feedback from fans of Nintendo. Better still, just re release the game and use the fans net code as part of it, pay them for it and then make a load of money on the sales.

Re: Nintendo Shadow-Drops Another Nintendo Direct Mini, Watch It Here

WillQuan

@Brummieendo90 why will it ruin gaming? Just because some people have an attachment to physical media doesn't mean it ruins it for everyone. Like anything it has its pros and cons. I mean people said digital purchases would be the death of gaming, look how that turned out.

Fact of the matter is you have Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Sony and now even Nintendo testing the waters with the technology, its only going to get bigger.

In the end all of the practical criticisms I've seen against game streaming like visual quality, input lag, reliability etc aren't an issue for me when I've streamed games and ownership isn't massively important to me either. I mean I had a PS4 with loads of games I bought downloaded but wasn't really that bothered when I sold my PS4. Physical media is a tiny part of the industry in music, TV and film at this point, similar is going to happen with gaming.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

WillQuan

@Darknyht wasn't referring to you specifically but look through these comments and you'll see what I mean. That is also a bit of a myth, they very rarely completely get rid of paid services and they are often rolled into another service e.g. Google Play Music has become part of YouTube music.

In regards to your other comment, completely understand in the US it is likely to be a bigger issue due to the way ISPs operate. In the UK that isn't really a problem, there are small sections of the country that struggle with good internet but a majority of towns and cities have great options. My friend didnt even realise his internet ran at 200mb/s until I checked it for him and that's in a relatively small town.

Thing is I have no problem with people bringing legitimate criticisms to streaming and Stadia in particular e.g. Small library, slow growth, low multiplayer numbers etc but when it comes down to it most haven't tried and are just parroting what they've seen someone else say.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

WillQuan

@Bunkerneath The second part of your comment makes no sense. Why would cloud gaming be anymore susceptible to shovelware and games being difficult to find? Have you been on the Switch Eshop recently? There is so much shovelware and I still find the games I want easily. The reviews being bot led is also nonsense, who actually purchases games based on the star rating on the platform? We all read reviews from gaming sites, when I had a PS4 I didnt once pay attention to the star rating from other users.

Re: Talking Point: There's Never Been A Better Time For Gaming Consumers, Nor A Worse Time For Gaming Innovation

WillQuan

It's actually incredible how misinformed people on gaming sites are when talking about streaming platforms. For one Stadia doesn't require an incredible Internet speed, around 30/40mbs is enough for 4k 60 fps and isn't a particularly high speed here in the UK. You don't need a subscription, you literally buy games you want to play and Stadia Pro is a subscription that offers a set number of games a month like PS Plus and the addition of 4K streaming. Input lag isn't at all significant and it feels like you are playing on a console/PC. You can play on pc, laptop, tablet and mobile with pretty much any controller or you can get a Chromecast with a controller for less than half the price of a Switch Lite.

I'm not here to say that Stadia is the best platform ever but once you give it a go, you know this is going to be a big part of gaming in the future. On top of that you have Geforce Now which plays games you buy on Steam, EGS, etc, Xcloud which runs game pass games, Luna which has just been announced that seems similar to gamepass and you even have Shadow which is literally just a top end PC streaming to your screen. Whether all of these replace physical is definitely up for debate as are the merits of ownership etc but before you start saying something at least try to understand the topic and writing it off cause you like to own discs and cartridges. This type of gaming is likely going to benefit a huge section of the market who would normally buy a console and play COD, Fifa and a couple of games each year and if they can save £400 on a console and just play on something they already own, they will likely do it. With Amazon, Microsoft and Google all investing significantly in the tech, it will take off, they have too much money to fail.

On the flip side I do think this does benefit Nintendo in a strange way, by being more niche and having strong exclusives, they can likely keep a decent market with their typically more traditional approach and I will continue to support Nintendo as they offer experiences that can't be beaten in my book.
