With Pac-Man World: Re-Pac out on Switch in a few weeks, Bandai Namco has shared details on how the game will look and run on the Switch!
The details for the remake of the 1999 PlayStation platformer Pac-Man World have been detailed on the game's Japanese website (thanks, Nintendo Everything).
It's a fairly familiar story for Switch owners who want to pick up this platformer on the hybrid console. Pac-Man World: Re-Pac's frame rate will run "up to 30fps" on Switch, both handheld and docked. For resolution, the game will be 1080p docked and 720p handheld.
Lastly, you won't need to make a ton of room for the remake on Switch, as Re-Pac will require "about 3.6GB", according to Bandai Namco's website. The game doesn't yet have a listing on the Switch eShop, so this is subject to change.
You can check out some more details on Pac-Man World: Re-Pac over on the Japanese website right here, or if you want to see how the upcoming remake stacks up to the original 1999 release, check out our article below!

"Up to 30FPS"
Up to.
For a 20 year old game.
Yikes.
@C-Olimar Was about to say the exact same.
Well, I will get the PS5 version for 60 fps.
I don't think I need to ramble on again about the same issues. If the game had every chance to hit the best performance, but didn't, then it's not great.
I mean, it is remade from the ground up, buuuut... levels are still pretty small with not as many details as newer games. It could easily run at solid 60fps, not even reaching a solid 30fps it really means they don't care at all...
@C-Olimar while I think 60fps should be possible.
It is a remake so new engine, so not the original game.
If it was a remaster that would change the story.
Why on earth is it so hard for these developers to get platform games running at 60fps on Switch when Mario Odyssey managed it FOUR YEARS AGO and is way more detailed/bigger worlds than the likes of Sonic Colors, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot or Pac-Man World? Most of these are remakes of extremely linear PS1 games and being a multiformat game isn't an excuse, sorry, but it's not. Make more of an effort for a console with an 100 million userbase.
@Rayquaza2510 I'm happy with 30FPS tbh.
It's the "up to" wording that concerns me.
If the game isn't optimised to run at a smooth 30, it isn't ready for release.
Cut the resolution if it means smooth 30fps or even 60fps. Stable frame rate is much more important
My only concern is what the Native framerate is. Native is the way.
I’m not too surprised by this since most switch games run at 30fps. So long as it is steady then I’ll be happy
"Up to 30fps"? Unbelievable.
@C-Olimar @Discokuningas @WillQuan this system is easily only half way through its life cycle. And you know what I played games at 10 fps on N64 so I’m a real gamer and don’t care. Everyone else is a digital foundry graphics whore and not a real fan.
Never played the original, so no nostalgia for it here. I'll wait until it goes on sale for $20, then pick up a copy for Switch & PS5.
@sixrings Man haha. While I agree with you that fps are overrated (when did we start counting them?), you really should use a different set of words for your comment! You are asking to get into a fight with those
@Clyde_Radcliffe - Because they are developing a game for multiple platforms at the same time and then trying to port it over to Switch, which as we know has weaker hardware. If this was designed from the ground up for Switch, it would be a different story.
@sixrings Your boot, sir
@NeonPizza 720p yikes. This is the og xbox days? People around here need to accept we need a upgraded system. Sure the developers could be being lazy. But being lazy on better hardware would have gotten us to 60fps.
@Rayquaza2510 No its not ? its just the unity engine again they've been using the unity engine for almost all the remakes so far Even with klonoa
@sixrings "720p yikes. This is the og xbox days?" No, the original Xbox ran at 480i, though was technically capable of 720p. You're thinking of the Xbox 360.
You underestimate the terrible performance games by lazy developers can have on powerful hardware.
People are acting like "up to 30fps" means it'll be running low 20s at all times, or something. Says nothing about the stability of the release, other than it not being locked.
At this point, if you're playing modern games on Switch (and, like it or not, this remake graphically constitutes a modern game), you know performance won't be butter smooth. That's the price of gaming on a five-year-old, underpowered gaming tablet in a world of 4K consoles.
@BenoitRen it sure seems like there’s a lot of lazy developers on switch.
@Wisps
In general its because higher framerate means the game not only looks smoother but also is more responsive, its also why stability is considered important and is why the "up to" part is concerning since it means that the game wont even be a stable 30.
@Mgalens lots of Nintendo fans love saying Nintendo is all about the frame rate. Yet A good portion of Nintendo first party games are sub 60 and the hardware isn’t strong enough for most developers to get their games to run at 60. And I’m not even talking about major graphic intensive games. I’m talking crash trilogy, sonic, pac man, that new namco remake. It’s extremely rare to find a 1080p 60fps. That said a lot of those Wii u ports transitioned well. So maybe we need more ports.
It does very much feel like preparation for more powerful Switch hardware. "up to 30fps" on the current Switch could mean stable 60fps on the more powerful Switch.
@Ralizah
I'm usually fine with a stable 30 its just when it drops below it that I find things get noticeably stutter'y, in cases like with this and klonoa i would be cool with a "performance mode" option with lower resolution and more stable framerate.
@NeonPizza
an easy mix up but its wild GUNS, though i would love to see wild arms and its sequels get remasters on switch (sadly unlikely since sony owns the IP iirc)
Yikes, guess I’m going with the Series X version then. I get now wouldn’t be the best time to release a successor, but they kinda needed one since yesterday.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see what the reviews say. Kirby and the Forgotten Land was 30 FPS, and that ran just fine. Hopefully this game would be similar to that.
I may get bombarded for this but we really do need an updated switch with higher power. If not for Nintendo games, at least third party games.
@JGruns you're on the money... I dont expect a 4k console or anything but these types of games and many of Nintendos own games should run at 1080p 60fps
@Wisps you know when n64 came out we were super forgiving because it was the first time real 3d was at home for a relatively cheap price. However as years went on I think most our expectations grew. Surely no one expects their switch to perform like a series x or ps5 but can we get to ps4 or even base xbox one?
Jeez people are acting like 30 FPS is terrible when Kirby Star allies and super Kirby clash are both games that ran at 30 frames and nobody had was complaining about that. (They were complaining about a lack of difficulty for the former and micro transactions for the latter)
@BenoitRen There were several 720p games on the original Xbox and many more 480p games.
@sixrings I think I sent my now self removed response to you on accident, lol.
@Greatluigi It's not terrible but 30fps isn't the standard anymore. PS5 and Series X releases are generally 60fps now. Nintendo needs to beef up their hardware. I love Xenoblade Chronicles 3 but man does it look blurry with bad textures. Only the art style saves it. I keep thinking how awesome it'd look on another current gen console. I only buy Nintendo exclusives on Switch now. Otherwise it's other consoles.
@Synthatron_Prime I am very concerned what botw 2 is going to look like. Every year the game is delayed the higher the standards of graphics become.
Personally I don’t think the switch needs a upgrade it’s perfectly fine just the way it is. And when I played the klonoa demo it’s looked fine to me. (Plus when me and my family watched aqua man in 4K it made it look fake.)
As long as the game is fun I don’t care about FPS or graphics.
@sixrings THANK YOU!!! people are acting like 30 FPS is unplayable when it’s still perfectly fine.
Heck BOTW is 30 frames and it’s still considered one of the best games of all time.
@Greatluigi Luigi I was being sarcastic. I love BOTW but it would be 100% better at 60fps... And I no I dont want to play the game at 60fps 480P I sold my CRT along time ago to watch fake looking HD
Heh. It might be "good enough" to play handheld on Switch, but other than that appeal, it's probably best to get it for something else.
@MidySeaCloud I don’t think you understood my comment.
But that fine.
@Synthatron_Prime yeah, I love the Switch, but it’s starting to feel dated. Load times are so slow too….
@rockodoodle I swear the switch is popular because it’s less gimmicky. It’s traditional games that you can play on the road or at home. It’s supposed to be a hybrid. But the better the games look on other consoles the more it looks like a portable. Except that portable games from gameboy, game gear, game boy advance, ds we’re all cheaper than their console counterparts. I just don’t know how much longer they can charge us the same price for significantly less all because we might want to play it portable
@sixrings honestly, I pretty much see the switch as a handheld that you can use as a console. I almost never play in docked mode and if I want a more robust experience, I will get that game on another system. I am far from a graphics snob too. It’s just that we are playing on a system with nearly decade old technology and it’s starting to show.
@rockodoodle I just hate cycling between systems. Much prefer it all on one eco system. I can live without the Microsoft and Sony first parties. But games like this ugh.
@sixrings it’s kinda interesting to see the different approaches to gaming with each system. But u are correct, thee is no reason why I should have to get a 20 y/o game to run smoothly on a supposedly current generation system…
I will not be buying this. 30FPS for a game like this is just unacceptable.
@unlimitedbitsgaming I see you love your game boy but when you bought game boy games they were less than the nes or snes counterparts.
@sixrings Okay, and? What's the point of your whataboutism, we aren't talking Game Boy, we're talking Switch, of which I'm also an owner.
Wow, $29?
I'm so excited for this, the original was amazing.
My son loves Mario, I'm more of a Pac-Man guy...
@sixrings People keep buying shoddy releases, so developers have understood that they don't have to put much of an effort into it.
@Synthatron_Prime I thought it was only available through jailbreaking. Now I see that those options were available on NTSC consoles, but not PAL ones.
