Re: NPD Results Deliver a 3DS Milestone And Modest Wii U Sales

WildApple

There was nothing wrong with the Wii. Nintendo had only one thing to do: updated the hardware, so it would show and play full HD games (1080p).

The Wii U gamepad it one of the biggest and most expensives fails for a Nintendo console. They should have just keep the motion sensors (maybe upgrade them a bit or two).

And also, where are the AAA 3rd party titles? Why are we constantly reading, the developer X is abandoning the Nintendo platform.

Of course indie games are great and sometimes a big refreshment, but you can't base your console market only on indies in the long run. Who will buy such a thing, when there is non of the bigger names on it.

Nintendo needs to understand, that they can't compete with the the Tablets/Smartphone markets and games and also it shouldn't.

One of the problems it, the Wii was a real revolution/innovation. The Wii U is just, I don't know, what to say.

What do you think, why do people buy PS4 and Xbox One consoles and not the Wii U?

Re: Capcom Europe To Axe More Than Half Its Workforce Due To Major Restructuring

Well, if the global economy crisys will continue in the comming years, many things will change for sure.

Especially the videogame/computergames market is quite sensitive and vurnerable.

Did you read the other news on the site?

"Small" Number Of Staff Laid Off At Sega Of America
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/10/small_number_of_staff_laid_off_at_sega_of_america

And so on and so on. Yeah, I know, companys come, company go/close, but things are getting (from financial perspective) harder than in the past decade(s). Today we have so many taxes and there will be even more. The countrys/states are more and more in debts ... more and more people are unemployed, the european social system in some member countrys is almost bankrupt.

So, what I want to say/write is: the number of people who can afford to buy new games (at full price) and to buy new consoles will be smaller. Especially in the "werstern world".

Re: Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Reveals?

Well, I still play sometime my good-old Wii, but I have to say, that I am playing more and more on my PC (if I have free spare time, sadly there is less and less of it). There are more and more Indie games for it and nice rereleased older games on different services ...

I also like to play different strategy games, where the PC is the absolute winner for this type of game.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto: People Need To Be Patient With Wii U

WildApple

Is this guy on drugs?

The "problem" (for Nintendo) of today is, that there are so much more alternatives to Nintendo consoles (smartphones, tablets, other consoles, PC&Mac) and services, that Nintendo has to really think about their future.

People will not wait. They will simply buy another product, where they have a big games library. Aka: Apple's AppStore.

Re: Iwata Implies That He Could Step Down Over Sluggish Sales Performance

WildApple

Dont get me wrong. I love Nintendo, I own a Wii with plenty of games, but to be honest, I think, the future is not bright for Nintendo.

Today we have smartphones (or whatever they are called) and tablets, that are getting more and more games, and most people don't need another device (3DS) to play interesting games on it. Also, the gaming/developer community is bigger and bigger on these platform as time is passing by ...

And what about Nintendo? Well, 3rd party support is slowly decreasing, the new Wii U is simply to expensive and it has simply not enough 3rd party support, especially now, when you can get for about 250-300 € the Playstation 3 Super Slim (500 GB) with three games (bundle options) or the older models for even les ... And look! How many games you have for PS3 or Xbox 360 ...

And we should not forget the PC platform.

Anyway, I hope, there is still place for Nintendo type gameplay experience in the future ... or will they turn into a software developer, like SEGA did?

SEGA did survive and they are getting bigger and bigger.
What will happen to big N?

Re: Nintendo Developing New Game Genres to Revitalise 3DS

WildApple

@79 - I don't play any of these games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Crysis or Halo series.

I do however like to play different action and adventure, there are some FPS games (like Turok), racing games, strategy games (real-time and turn-based), board games and RPG games (the old classics like Baldurs Gate and similar, I do like the Witcher series too). And I don't play any games over the internet. I don't like multiplayer games.

However I really like these indie-games, like Braid, Shadowgrounds, Amnesia: Dark Descent and so on.

On the Wii, I also prefer the Super Mario type games, Metroid series, NyxQuest, Swords & Soldiers etc.

Re: Nintendo Developing New Game Genres to Revitalise 3DS

WildApple

I have to fully agree with SimonB79.

The Wii is dead for me*. Sorry, but they simply don't have any attractive games anymore, like the competition (MS Xbox360, Sony PS3, PC/Mac with all these games on DVDs or services like Steam, Impulse, D2D, Gog.com, Indie Humble Bundles etc.).

  • I still play it once or twice a month or two, but ... since I finished all my old games, there are only a handfull of games (normal Wii and some WiiWare), that are worth to replay.

The only game I bought in the last 12 months for Wii was Donkey Kong Country Reborn. That's all. And three WiiWare games.

Re: Three Brand New Zelda Skyward Sword Trailers

WildApple

Can, please, someone explain me something: I never played any of these Zelda games.

From the look it seems like the gameplay is similar to God of War (I played it a bit at a friend) and such.
Are these games similar to the 3D version of Sonic, Rayman, Ratchet and Clank, etc? Is it a type of 3D platformer, or what?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Microsoft's Kudo Tsunoda Greatly Saddened by Wii's "Unfulfilled Promise"

WildApple

Actually, I think Kinect will be a big catastrophy for MS.

But on the sidenote, Sony can get some decent stuff, I they will make the PS3 Move even more precise, than Wii's Wii Motion+ is. All in all, the stuff will be usable only, if there will be some good games for it and people will buy that stuff.

I would like, if the Wii could give me 720p graphics. Nothing wrong with the games on Wii (except the showelware).

Re: HD Wii - Is It Coming? Depends Who You Ask

WildApple

Seriously guys, there will be no upgrade of the current Wii to HD. There would be too many compatibility issues with the existing titles from a technical point of view.

Are you sure about that?
There is already an emulator, that can turn the actual titles to better resolution (for now only Super Mario Galaxy). Here is a picture:

So, the games are already HD, only the hardware is weak in the Wii.
