Re: Video: How To Play Rare And Expensive Nintendo Games On A Budget

WildApple

@ElStormo0
maybe some fidelity is lost, but my eyes hurt from watching a game on CRT TV or CRT monitor...

Emulators have many options:

  • you can always turn on different graphic filter for the image, if you want a more "classical" image (blurred image, scanlines...).
  • you can manipulate the fps (frames per image) if you think, the game is too fast or too slow
  • you can swap the language on the go, if there exist one
  • you can mod the game to an extent

Re: Early Wii Remote Concepts Have Been Uncovered In The Nintendo Gigaleak

WildApple

I am more than happy, that the "motion" gaming, that the Wii, PS3 Move and Xbox Kinect represented is gone. The "new" Virtual Reality is just a new-gen fashion fad that will also pass quickly.

I have to say, there were some solid games on the Wii. Sadly, the video output was bad even for the 2000s. Nintendo could at least built in an HDMI output. They tried to correct this with the Wii U, but it was too late.

Actually, in last month (January 2021) I did read a rumor about this, that at least one mayor "player" in the PC/videogame industry is in talks to aquire SEGA/SEGA Sammy Holdings.

Oh and I almost forgot: SEGA had big loose with their arcade business last year.

Also, last year (2020) Codemasters was bought by EA and Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media (parent of Bethesda) or at least are in the process of being purchased.

Oh and did you know, that Gearbox was just aquired by Embracer Group (THQ Nordic, Deep Silver, Saber Interactive etc.)?
Here is the link, that I am not making something up:

Re: UK Retailer GAME To Close 40 Stores In "Rationalisation Programme"

I did buy some use (pre-owned) and also new games from them, when they had relatively low shipment prices to Europe.

But this was years ago in the late years of PS2 and golden era of Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. And when they had many PC games too on CD/DVDs.

They even had promos/sales like buy 2 choose 3 for 10 ₤ and such.

Re: Review: Garfield Kart Furious Racing - A Rancid, Regurgitated Hairball Of A Racer

Hm, interesting review, especially the score.

The PC version is very solid. It works without problems and, as it was made mostly for kids in mind, there are many unlockables...

My nieces like to play this game.

It works great with combination of keyboard + gamepad (Xbox generic clone). It has 2, 3 and even 4 play local splitscreen! Local splitscreen in todays racing games are a very rare thing today.

I would give it at least 6/10.

Re: PlayStation 4 Just Overtook Wii's Lifetime Sales

@RupeeClock
Yeah, mostly downgrades (like the remove of the Gamecube port, memorycard and similar)

And than the Wii mini...
That was even a more of a downgrade. They removed the SD card slot, removed the Wifi (so no Web/Internet access), removed the component video output... just to name a few. And the whole thing (the build quality) seemed much cheaper in comparison to the original Wii.

Re: The SNES Classic Mini Uses the Same Hardware as the NES Mini

@bolt05
Well, I have a list here...

  • USA - 788 total, about 690 MB; * Europe - 610 total, about 560 MB; * Japan - 1551 total - about 1.5 GB; * for Korea, there are 2 games; * Hongkong has 1 game; * there are some betas, bad dumps, some unlicensed etc.

total is about 3792 known Nintendo Super NES/Famicom games (from 2003)

Re: January NPD Results Show the NES Classic Edition Was the Third Best-Selling Console of the Month

WildApple

Well, here where I live, it wasn't problematic, to get on of these NES minis.

There were a bunch of NES mini boxes... I've grabbed one from the shelf, the price was/is 70 EUR.

One of the guys, that work there and I know him, said, they've got about 100 pcs with the first shippment (that was in december 2016) in 50 pcs now in february 2017 (attention: for the whole country!), yet it still didn't sold out.

There are still some boxes available in their online store:

The only thing, that isn't in the box, that the US version has is the AC adapter. You only get an mini USB to normal USB cable

So you need a modern TV with USB support or buy an USB adapter with 1A/0.5V support... or USB hub, that has AC adapter included.

Re: Rumour: Sources Go to Battle Again Over Nintendo NX Power

WildApple

NX is not using x86 architecture like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The NX has special, custom-made chips and the overall design of the hardware is very modern. The chips are industry leading because they are very modern chips, but having modern chips doesn't necessarily mean Nintendo is aiming to create the most powerful hardware on the market.

So, since it won't be any x86 arhitecture, but again PowerPC or someting like ARM type ... Than we can say bye-bye to 3rd Party (big studios) games support from the start.

Well, maybe the indies will save them, who knows?
