@smolsauce not quite. Just because something has not been tested in court does not mean it's legal. At best it is legally grey as it's untested. The reason the keys are a concern is because they circumvent Nintendo's copy protection for their Wii games. This could be a major problem and why I mentioned how Playstation emulators avoid this trap by just not including stuff like that in the emulator. I used the example of the BIOS, but I could see how that can be confusing as they are two different things.
It's untested in court, but we can see. I just think it's a bad idea to try because of Nintendo's legal argument. They aren't arguing against emulation or even reverse engineering. They are just arguing that including the keys violate their copyright protection.
@fox_mattcloud I'm more partial to getting a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake... Here is hoping it gets out of Saturn (a notoriously difficult system to make an emulator for) prison some day.
@Dragonite89 Nintendo's argument is very narrow in scope so there is a high chance they win. However what is established is the ability to reverse engineer to make an emulator not the usage of one. And Dolphin did break the reverse engineering clause by using the Cryptographic keys themselves (it is why most Playstation emulators require you to use your own bios to avoid this very scenario). Have you watched the video I linked above? It goes into way deeper into the topic and the big trap Nintendo has setup for this very scenario.
@Dragonite89 They should not do that. Emulators are in very shaky ground and most lawyers would say the current statuesque is the best case scenario. It is highly likely if emulators go to court they could be outright banned. So, if Dolphin goes to court they might not just be battling against Nintendo, but also parties to Nintendo (Capcom, Microsoft through Activision Blizzard, Atari, Sega, and dozens others).
There is no reason for them to pursue this legally for what is basically very little gain. Even the legality around emulation is questionable.
@CharlieGirl Agreed. Even though a good 50% of the Gamecube's library is a license game which makes releasing them pretty difficult (major league sport, WWE, movie/TV/Toy tie-in or music game) I'm still not a fan of how little of it is currently available on modern hardware. Nintendo seems to be heading in the right direction with Pikmin 1+2 and Prime Remaster... but, I still can't fathom why they've not released the Pokemon Coliseum games, Thousand Year Door, or other games that would require very little work to actually get on the Switch.
Who knows... time will tell I guess.
Though yeah, not a smart move on Dolphin's part. Emulators are in a pretty legal murky grey zone... why put that target on something that Nintendo seems to be ignoring for the most part.
I can go over the same song and dance every time. But a lawyer actually went over the legal issues with ROMs and emulators in an entertaining way. Give it a watch!
He even discusses why Dolphin has a bunch of issues to get on Steam that go beyond what is discussed in the article: https://youtu.be/wROQUZDCIMI
For those also curious he did a two-part series discussing why Nintendo and Sega treat copyright differently and the legal pros and cons of those approaches. Super informative channel.
Sega: https://youtu.be/IwTXCwqurNQ
Nintendo: https://youtu.be/i13hrynnGNY
Outside of that... duh! I have no idea what Dolphin was thinking doing this considering the unofficial agreement Nintendo seems to have with them and other emulators. "we won't go after you legally if you keep your emulators underground and out of mainstream eyes." Nintendo never had gone directly after an emulator till Dolphin decided to break what seems to be an unspoken policy Nintendo seems to have with them.
I think the DS version is an overall better RPG. More challenging, more to do, and overall a very tight package. Though, I think the sprite version is far easier to just get through and a better gate way game to the series (it is a charming "easy" JRPG without the bloat of later entries). I think it just depends on what your mood is. Though, I am disappointed the Pixel Remaster does not include the GBA content... what a bizarre oversight to not include the extra content on what is basically a Directors Cut version of the game.
Whenever I hop on one of these articles I'm always shocked by the sheer entitlement of the Pokemon fanbase. Technical issues aside, it must be hard working on this franchise.
Fan: "I want all 1000+ Pokemon, and regional forms available from day 1!! And each one must show personality, cuteness, and be the way they are in the anime. I also want the game to be as big as Breath of the Wild, and I want the gyms to be playable in any order with unique teams depending on when I battle them. I also want more Pokemon. I also, want a super complex story like I'm watching an anime. I also want brand new battle mechanics... while at the same time I want Megas, Dynamax, Z-moves and Terastallization in the game even though it be super unbalanced. I also want all my favorite games remade, and I want them in-between new generation games every three years. Oooh and all my previously caught Pokemon should be transferable in the game at launch."
I understand Pokemon is a massive brand... but guys... there is going to be growing pains to the series and a lot of those demands are just not possible to get the game out within a timely manner. To be honest... it is just not possible to do all of that and have the game ship out even within 8 years of dev time. I understand Gamefreak kind of did this to themselves by overdelivering on a lot of that during the Gameboy-3DS eras... but on HD systems (and soon 4K systems) that era of game development would require a studio far larger than anything Gamefreak has ever handled before and the scope would be unimaginable.
@SpaceboyScreams If this is the worst game you've ever played... you've not played many games. I recommend jumping on Steam and downloading some truly terrible games.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are a really enjoyable experience. How can you not enjoy Arven and his story? Or the pretty down to earth story of Team Stars? Clavell is a very engaging character which is a sharp criticism of the education system and how they ignore bullying. There is a lot to the story beyond "big out of control legendary Pokemon is running out of control due to the evil team!!! We must stop it with the other super powerful legendary pokemon!" Plot we've had since what... gen 3? It is refreshing. Yes the technical issues are annoying and while I can overlook them, I understand not everyone can.
But, this is far from the "worst game evar!!!!" label.
@NinjaNicky I could be wrong, but isn't this the most "lambasted" mainline Pokemon in history? It is sitting at a 72 on Metacritic which is still well bellow the average. Sword and Shield 80, Legends Arceus 83, Sun and Moon 87, Ultra Sun and Moon 84, Pokemon X and Y 87, Black and White 87, Black 2 and White 2 80. I'm pretty sure the issues are not ignored because Nintendo. That is just objectively wrong. When a game is reviewed all aspects of the game are taken into account and that also applied to Scarlet and Violet. Considering Pokemon tends to more often then not get an 87 and on the low-end gets an 80-83... I think it's safe to say people have noticed. If the technical issues were fixed then it probably be the best game in the series.
@DennisReynolds listed some of the very appealing parts of the game. Just because some people can look over the technical issues and still love the game, does not mean that the issues are being ignored by reviewers and the general public.
@RubyCarbuncle it's a Japan thing. Exclusive merch for specific conventions and events is extremely common in Japan. As for why? I dunno, maybe collector's just eat it up and then flip them to marks who want to own one? Either way it's just the norm over there, so this is hardly news to me. We have it too, but most of the time it's limited to Comic Con (or convention specific t-shirts).
@Korgon I'd say during the PS3-era they had to adapt. The blunder of the cell processor and high pricetag really pushed devs to the Xbox 360. So, Sony had to come out with massive heavy hitters Resistance trilogy, Killzone 2&3, Infamous 1&2, God of War 3, White Knight Chronicles 1&2, Demon Souls, the Ratchet and Clank games, The Uncharted Trilogy, The Last of Us. That's just games I can name off the top of my head.
Sadly Sony seems pretty content with with the PS5 generation to just settle back into 3rd parties carrying the console. But, damn PS3 Sony published games were damn good.
@TruthisRare clapclapclap very mature response. Once again I don't care what you do. You have fun. But, no need to be defensive when we're having a civil discussion.
EDIT: For those curious about legalities of emulators and ROMs here is a video made by a lawyer about the topic: https://youtu.be/wROQUZDCIMI
@TruthisRare doesn't matter what Nintendo does or doesn't do with copyright. @Switch_Pro is correct. Just because you don't agree with how they distribute them does not make them unavailable or not ripping them yourself not piracy.
Think of if I replied to you the way you did to Switch_Pro "what you too lazy or broke to own the tools needed to rip your own ROMs and need to pirate? What a joke." Notice how that response sounds way less reasonable than what I said above?
And the law does not care about your conscience or feelings. It's fine, you do you, but you can't say what you're doing is legal under the letter of the law. Switch_Pro is right, that under the current form of US Copyright unless you ripped the game yourself, from your purchased copy then it's piracy. Is it fair? No. Is it ethical the current setup for US copyright law? Probably not. Is downloading a game off the internet piracy even if you own or previously owned said game? Yes.
Though it's up to you how you feel, but you will get push back on your ideas. And on the side, Switch_Pro made it very clear he was not discussing the ethics of it, just the current sate of legal language and laws.
@FishyS that's fair. I don't tend to buy Sega collections so for me it's a solid value. For those who got them elsewhere they won't see the value proposition the same. I do think the Mario Kart 8 DLC is pretty nuts to include as I think that is pretty great value for a family who play Mario Kart together to save some dollars for online kart racing.
As for the GBA games... Yeah it's a bit sparse right now, but once Metroid Zero Mission, FE Sacred Stones, the Golden Sun duology and possibly 3rd party games like Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and Sonic Advanced arrive... It's going to get a lot harder to resist... And would be an instant purchase for Pokemon diehards once Pokemon Fire Red, Leaf Green and Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald arrive... Damn that will be a must have for a bulk of Switch owners.
@robchacot full price? Pikmin 1+2 is $60, but on their own they're $30, and one of the best remasters ever made is like $50 for the Prime remaster. I get GCN games are old, but $30 for them is pretty reasonable without the Prime remaster treatment. I'm sure Nintendo will keep them coming if Pikmin does well and considering to get some of these games on original hardware is can go anywhere for $40-170 I think Nintendo is offering here a pretty good value.
@JohnnyMind I agree. It was always a pretty good deal when it was just N64 and Genesis/Mega Drive games. But, with Mario Kart 8 DLC (amazing value on its own as you basically get Mario Kart 8.5), and now some bangers of GBA games... The future is pretty great for this service. I'm still holding out that Microsoft and Nintendo can bring Banjo Tooie, Perfect Dark and Conker to the service... But as of right now, you get an amazing deal if you have even a passing interest in the deal.
@FishyS I have been quite enjoying it. I think it's a pretty great deal now that you get GBA and DLC for select titles. It feels like Nintendo dipping their toe in the Gamepass model, and it's a pretty great value. That and with more Nintendo GBA and N64 games on the way... It's a banger of a deal.
Though I do think Nintendo needs to make their online offerings more expansive to entice more buyers, but what they have right now is pretty great.
@Friendly oh for sure!!! I was just pointing out that Microsoft getting a monopoly through this deal was a pretty silly idea considering how outside of COD and Blizzard, Activision has been pretty bad with their IPs.
@Switch_Pro indeed! I think you hit the nail on the head there. Activision has a fair amount of talented studios who are probably looking forward to working under MS. I'm excited to see what MS does with the studios more than the IPs. Too much focus has been on COD when let's be real MS won't make that exclusive if they want to make their money back.
@Switch_Pro which was the general point. The only big part of this purchase that could benefit Microsoft with its consoles (outside of COD, but that's not going exclusive) would be Blizzard. Though StarCraft and WarCraft would be hard to put on Series X without mouse and keyboard support. Halo Wars proved traditional RTS games are hard to pull off and even then are extremely niche on consoles (note RTS not SRGS). Though it be neat if they gave id Soft, Hexen, but I doubt just Activision's IPs will move the needle considering how dead and buried a lot of them are.
@Ridlay It's really not. Activision Blizzard has a handful of major IPs, Call of Duty, Diablo (historically a PC first franchise), World of WarCraft (which is in the decline and not on consoles anyway) and Overwatch... but for the most part some of their biggest IPs are dormant or dead. Tony Hawk? Dead. Guitar Hero? Dead. Skylanders? Dead. StarCraft? Dormant. Then they have smaller IPs like Crash and Spyro, which are not really system sellers. Their mobile offerings are massive, but won't turn the tide on the console side.
Their big IPs are massive, but they don't have as many as you'd think they do. It is why the FTC had to focus on Call of Duty because that is massive, but everything else can be PC and Xbox exclusive without harming Sony's lead. If this were EA... then Sony would have a problem because of the EA Sports label, Mass Effect (the hype around Mass Effect 4 is huge), Dragon Age, Dead Space, Battlefield, The Sims, Need for Speed. These are all massive franchises that are active. I'd say while none on their own are larger than COD, they'd be painful to lose, especially FIFA and Madden. I'd say even Ubisoft with their big three of FarCry, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs are probably more collectively painful to lose if they went Xbox exclusive than a good chunk of Activision IPs.
COD would never leave PlayStation provided PlayStation is still the market leader. The fact that COD is not on Switch (at least Warzone and the classics) is a headscratcher. Activision Blizzard outside of COD is not the juggernaut they were a couple generations ago. Microsoft is spending $69billion for COD, Blizzard and mobile IPs. Because I doubt they plan to revive Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. I highly doubt this would lead to a monopoly for Microsoft. Unless they bought EA or Ubisoft... but then that would be far easier to block.
@Debo626 @Pigeon as I said it's not that Sony currently is on par with Nintendo's catalog of 1st party games, it's that they could if they wanted to. And even Nintendo tends to only drop 1 core title per-generation of their top IP (1 3D Mario, 1 3D Zelda, 1 Mario Kart and Smash) and their smaller IPs fill the gaps with multiple titles like Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Kirby. The only outlier is Pokemon and we can argue how beneficial that will be long-term. If Sony wanted they could push Medievil, Ratchet and Clank, Ape Escape or even Sly Cooper to fill the gaps between God of War or Last of Us titles. Sony has some great IPs, but they don't really push them like Nintendo. So, in yeah Sony has built a pretty great IP catalog, just does not seem to make as good of use of it as they could.
@Debo626 I dunno man, God of War (2018) sold 23 million units, Last of US sold 19 million, even Horizon Zero Dawn sold 20 million units. It is not that Sony does not have huge names in gaming, they just don't leverage them as well as Nintendo. Nintendo is great at pushing older games, ideas and characters to the gamers, Sony seems less able to do this. It is hard to compare to Mario and Pokemon, but Sony does have some extremely recognizable IPs. Like where is Sony's version of Mario Kart? When they made their own Smash game they focused too hard on 3rd parties instead of including Sony favorites like Dart from Legend of Dragoon. They just seem too enamored with investing in 3rd party exclusives, than investing in their own back-catalog. Unlike Nintendo who leverages everything they have because they live or die by their 1st party titles.
@Pigeon I dunno Sony does have a number of heavy hitters and nostalgic stalwarts. Jak & Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo, Killzone, Resistance, Legend of Dragoon, Horizon, Last of Us, Medevil, Infamous, and Uncharted (along with licensed IPs like MLB the Show and Insomniac's Spider-Man) Sony has even more IPs too, but those are just some notables. If Sony wanted too, they could be just as prolific as Nintendo when it comes to first party IPs... They just don't leverage them as well.
I'll keep my nose out of this, but I agree with the judge. The best generation not just for sales, but the best value for the consumer was the 7th gen when all three platform holders were competitive and on even footing with each other. A strong Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo is good for the consumer.
@Thirsty_Hirsty oh no think of the children!!! I mean it's pretty nasty, but no worse than you'd see in an R-rated horror movie. If people want their blood let them have it.
@Jack_Goetz it depends on Fire God Liu. Maybe he did bring back Sektor because of the cyber-initiative. Cyrax has been a good guy consistently so maybe we'll see him back with a more diverse and unique move pool!
@SpoonySpoons @Agent069 Gamefreak is an external developer. Despite working almost entirely exclusively for Nintendo they don't get access to the same benefits an internal studio gets. Monolith doesn't just get lent out, they spend years supporting Nintendo's internal teams and work on Xenoblade and other projects. Pokemon would probably benefit with Monolith's know-how, but that doesn't mean they get that perk because at the end of the day they are 3rd party. It is up to Gamefreak who they want to work with and it needs to approved by the Pokemon Company, Nintendo and if it involves them Monolith too. Monolith is a small studio so they don't just have the resources to work on every Nintendo IP along with their own projects.
These are insane sales, truly unprecedented territory for Nintendo even during the NES and Wii-eras. However, Nintendo seems keen on pushing their brand into the realm of Disney. They see past Microsoft and Sony as competitors, they see Disney, Marvel, Harry Potter, large multimedia franchises as direct competition for consumer eyeballs. This tactic seems to be paying off quite well and I expect a next gen console sooner than people think to keep pushing their strategy of keeping eyes on them. Why else would they be investing in film, manga and theme parks?
@blindsquarel he helped create both Star Fox and F-Zero. So, it applies as Star Fox gets a title every now and again (not to that late-90s to early-00s golden age), but F-Zero has been dormant since the GBA I think. So... Yeah it applies to why he was asked the question as someone who contributes to both franchises.
@johnvboy if this is what the Switch can do in a week in Japan in year 6 I wonder if it will catch the PS2 in lifetime sales. The system still has some bangers to close the year and I see the system easily pulling another 10 million internationally this year if these sales are any indication of the console's overall health.
@Arawn93 I wonder what's up with Sony in Japan. The Switch is a monster over there, but Playstation historically has always excelled in Japan even during the early years of the PS3. Is it a demographic issue? But, the fact the Switch in total sales (OLED, base and lite) keep outselling it is a bit of a concern... One would expect at this point the Switch family to not be outselling the PS5 with a major exclusive title...
To be expected. Final Fantasy is an international institution at this point (not Dragon Quest levels in Japan, but extremely popular) and considering this one is radically different from previous entries and by all accounts top quality sales are to be expected. However, compared to the sales of Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake these numbers are a bit concerning... Limiting release on the PS5 appears to have hurt initial sales and I wonder if it's legs will make up the difference. The real factor on if the franchise is on shaky ground in Japan is if Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sells more than XVI.
@PessitheMystic to be fair the only people who bought a Wii U were Nintendo hardcore loyalists or those who were fans of then niche franchises like Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Fatal Frame or the odd Atlus game. The Wii U is a very poor indicator of franchise sales as we've learned with the Switch. I love the Wii U, great system with a great library, but not a system to draw those who wanted to play COD outside of the few itching for an FPS who already owned one.
As for why put COD on it in the first place... Well after the Wii do you bet against Nintendo? COD sold pretty damn well on Wii too, so it at the time seemed like a no brainier. After the Wii U, Activision probably wanted some sort of guarantee the Switch was just not a Wii U 2 and well... They were wrong and should had supported it better.
@Serpenterror would Microsoft owning Crash make it easier for him to get in??? Granted this is probably a joke, but I cannot picture a better bird flip Microsoft could give Sony.
@GrailUK I thought Sony said Nintendo fans don't like violent hardcore games... Jokes on them because I wanna see Samus blow Johnny Cage's head off with her morphball!! Imagine that gorey kill!!!
@GrailUK that be easy (though I'm not sure if this would count as Nintendo characters) Bayonetta would transfer super easy to MK. She'd make too much sense and imagine her fatality 0-0
I'd be okay with a Mortal Kombat representative in the next Smash. Mortal Kombat has been on Nintendo systems since the OG series (MK1-MK Armageddon) and Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1 are on Switch. The only games Nintendo fans missed out on were MK9 and MKX. Injustice proved MK characters don't need to be super gorey as cameo fighters and Scorpion would make perfect sense as a smash fighter. Fire balls/fire breath, teleportation, his sword for smash attacks and his grapple would be sick with his chain grab. Honestly this is a perfect fit for Smash and MK (it's also not like Nintendo has not invited M rated characters before like Bayonetta so please no "think of the children" memes if this does happen).
@RupeeClock Yes and no. Let's use Fire Emblem as the example. In a "casual mode" run of the game either Conquest or Three Houses there are still consequences of those characters fainting even without "classic" permadeath. If that unit dies in the map they don't get bonus experience for clearing the map, increase in skill points, plus that is unable to defeat enemies limiting their ability to level-up at the same pace as other units. In 3H even though you can "level grind" on off-days you are limited by how much you can use that feature during that day, or spending crucial action points to invest in Byleth to recruit better units from other houses than the one you now need to extra invest in. There are consequences for the character still fainting due to bad play. In Conquest with the limited amount of chapters and no avenue to level grind this is even more punishing as now you must either bench that unit in hopes that the others can carry the team and miss out in a unit that grows into an S-tier unit (in FE historically weak early game units tend to be some of the best in the game compared to higher level units you get early on due to the extra stat-growths they can get), or now put extra care into them leveling up in the next map and possibly knee-cap other units you are investing in and just messing up the party.
So, yes if the game is properly balanced around these features these extra features don't actively harm the experience that much. In 3H even though you can turn back a few turns you are limited to how many you can do that a map, and in some cases you may have screwed yourself outside of it's ability to help you. It is more convenient to use that tool, but in some cases it is about worthless anyways so it doesn't matter if you use it or just reset to an earlier save.
I think it entirely depends on how Pikmin uses this feature and how much it impacts that game. I like the Fire Emblem example as despite how casual mode and the ability to go back a few turns is lambasted by 'hardcore' fans it is not as game breaking as they think it is, but in less balanced games like Awakening and Birthright they do punish you far less outside of time commitment. If Pikmin makes the feature an expendable resource which is in limited amounts (Pikmin loves doing this in general) then I don't think the feature will be abused (even if it is limited to 1-3 times a day depending on how far you are in said game).
@-wc- depends on the code of the game. Some games it be easy to implement the option to disable this kind of features, others not so much. It really is up to how Nintendo's programers implemented the option. I hope it's toggle-able, but I won't get too upset if I have to resist the urge to do a do-over.
@Eggolor I get the frustration, but try to ignore those comments. Getting fired up tends to just lead to non-sense. Better to just stay cool. I adore Pikmin, but it also is a very niche franchise so an easy target of those who don't like the favoritism it gets (It's Miyamoto's baby).
@FishyS I think in the original Pikmin you have to almost try to get the bad ending even if you're bad at the game. Getting the minimum of 25 ship parts is really do-able as you can easily get more than one part a day. It does suck to die a fair bit in these games, but the skill cap is pretty low for an RTS, and provided you're paying attention and multi-tasking well even a bad day is pretty easy to bounce back from. But, I grew up with StarCraft and WarCraft 2 on the family PC in the late 90s, so when I got Pikmin for the Gamecube, I probably already had the basic skills to get through it without much issue... if you're starting form square one it can be very daunting.
Though I do agree that lessoning the time restriction will help new fans get into the series much like how casual mode in Fire Emblem allowed new fans to jump in without the fear of permadeath. Even if the series previously had built in tools to circumvent the challenge of losing a party member (the arena for level grinding, the lack of auto-saves, easy mode allowing for saving your progress on a map at anytime)... it is just the fear and added stress of those kinds of mechanics is not for everyone and Fire Emblem has learned from that. Though I do hope Pikmin 4 does not completely get rid of the time mechanic or completely simplify that for series veterans wanting a bigger challenge.
@PosterBoy I always considered it the same issue people had with Majora's Mask. People don't tend to like time limits as it adds extra stress and some just don't tend to enjoy that extra layer of pressure... no matter how lenient the time limit is. I mean for example in Majora's Mask you could easily finish a dungeon within the time limit and with the Song of Inverted time it is a breeze to get through the dungeon and the area leading up to it if you know what you're doing.
time limits are just not a super popular mechanic in general I guess, for example until Persona 5 that series had a bad wrap with people not liking the time limit to get through the dungeon and maintain social links. It was part of the reason the series was considered niche for so long (even by JRPG standards). Maybe Pikmin 4 will get more people into the series with it loosening the time restrictions.
@HotGoomba I want the deal to go through not because I'm pro-Microsoft or anti-Sony (even if Sony is not winning me over during this process). I'm pro the employees at Activision Blizzard. Say what you will about Microsoft's past, but the way those devs have been treated by Activision Blizzard will have it far better under new management and Microsoft has been very clear they will be making things better for them and find the harassment by higher ups at Activision Blizzard unacceptable.
@Wheatly it seems like the same cycle from Gen 8. Main game -> DLC -> Remake/Spin-off -> next gen game. Since the DlC is replacing the "3rd game" odds are the next generation would be rather early in the next consoles lifespan. Or we could end up with a remake (like the Let's Go games were a remake of Yellow version). I'd personally think timing Gen X with the holiday of year 1 or 2 of the next console would massively boost sales. It all depends on when this new console launches.

Re: The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin Is No Longer Coming To Steam
@smolsauce not quite. Just because something has not been tested in court does not mean it's legal. At best it is legally grey as it's untested. The reason the keys are a concern is because they circumvent Nintendo's copy protection for their Wii games. This could be a major problem and why I mentioned how Playstation emulators avoid this trap by just not including stuff like that in the emulator. It's untested in court, but we can see. I just think it's a bad idea to try because of Nintendo's legal argument. They aren't arguing against emulation or even reverse engineering. They are just arguing that including the keys violate their copyright protection.
Re: Forever Entertainment Hints At New Remake Announcement In 2023
@fox_mattcloud I'm more partial to getting a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake... Here is hoping it gets out of Saturn (a notoriously difficult system to make an emulator for) prison some day.
Re: The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin Is No Longer Coming To Steam

What you purpose is bad move written all over it.
Re: The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin Is No Longer Coming To Steam
Re: The GameCube And Wii Emulator Dolphin Is No Longer Coming To Steam
Re: Poll: Final Fantasy IV - Do You Prefer The Original Or The DS Remake?
I think the DS version is an overall better RPG. More challenging, more to do, and overall a very tight package. Though, I think the sprite version is far easier to just get through and a better gate way game to the series (it is a charming "easy" JRPG without the bloat of later entries). I think it just depends on what your mood is. Though, I am disappointed the Pixel Remaster does not include the GBA content... what a bizarre oversight to not include the extra content on what is basically a Directors Cut version of the game.
Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Distribution Announced
I do not envy those who work on this franchise.
Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Distribution Announced
Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Distribution Announced
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Teases "A Panel You Won't Want To Miss" At Comic-Con
Never been more excited for an MK game. What a great lineup so far and my man Smoke is back. Where there is smoke there is fire!!!
Though, I hope they don't show off every fighter and keep some as a surprise!
Re: The Pokémon Company Reveals Exclusive Figures For This Year's World Championships
Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Only A Classic Or Two From Being The Perfect PlayStation History Lesson
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
@TruthisRare clap clap clap very mature response. Once again I don't care what you do. You have fun. But, no need to be defensive when we're having a civil discussion.
EDIT: For those curious about legalities of emulators and ROMs here is a video made by a lawyer about the topic: https://youtu.be/wROQUZDCIMI
Have fun!
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Re: Microsoft Given All-Clear In The US To Acquire Activision Blizzard
@Friendly oh for sure!!! I was just pointing out that Microsoft getting a monopoly through this deal was a pretty silly idea considering how outside of COD and Blizzard, Activision has been pretty bad with their IPs.
Re: Microsoft Given All-Clear In The US To Acquire Activision Blizzard
@Switch_Pro indeed! I think you hit the nail on the head there. Activision has a fair amount of talented studios who are probably looking forward to working under MS. I'm excited to see what MS does with the studios more than the IPs. Too much focus has been on COD when let's be real MS won't make that exclusive if they want to make their money back.
Re: Microsoft Given All-Clear In The US To Acquire Activision Blizzard
@Switch_Pro which was the general point. The only big part of this purchase that could benefit Microsoft with its consoles (outside of COD, but that's not going exclusive) would be Blizzard. Though StarCraft and WarCraft would be hard to put on Series X without mouse and keyboard support. Halo Wars proved traditional RTS games are hard to pull off and even then are extremely niche on consoles (note RTS not SRGS). Though it be neat if they gave id Soft, Hexen, but I doubt just Activision's IPs will move the needle considering how dead and buried a lot of them are.
Re: Microsoft Given All-Clear In The US To Acquire Activision Blizzard
Re: Call Of Duty On Switch Still Isn't Guaranteed As FTC Appeals Court Ruling
Re: Call Of Duty On Switch Is Back On After Microsoft Wins FTC Court Case
Re: Nippon Ichi's 30th Anniversary Website Teases Three Unannounced New Games
A proper Phantom Brave follow-up would be nice. I do enjoy the We Meet Again epilogue, but I missed Ash and Marona, that and the original is amazing.
Re: Call Of Duty On Switch Is Back On After Microsoft Wins FTC Court Case
Re: Call Of Duty On Switch Is Back On After Microsoft Wins FTC Court Case
I'll keep my nose out of this, but I agree with the judge. The best generation not just for sales, but the best value for the consumer was the 7th gen when all three platform holders were competitive and on even footing with each other. A strong Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo is good for the consumer.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Shows Off Returning Characters In Jaw-Dropping New Trailer
@Thirsty_Hirsty oh no think of the children!!! I mean it's pretty nasty, but no worse than you'd see in an R-rated horror movie. If people want their blood let them have it.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Shows Off Returning Characters In Jaw-Dropping New Trailer
@Jack_Goetz it depends on Fire God Liu. Maybe he did bring back Sektor because of the cyber-initiative. Cyrax has been a good guy consistently so maybe we'll see him back with a more diverse and unique move pool!
But, where there is Smoke there is fire!
Re: Monolith Soft Profits Almost Doubled In Fiscal Year Ending March 2023
Re: Japan's Switch Sales In June Were Reportedly A Record High For The Console
These are insane sales, truly unprecedented territory for Nintendo even during the NES and Wii-eras. However, Nintendo seems keen on pushing their brand into the realm of Disney. They see past Microsoft and Sony as competitors, they see Disney, Marvel, Harry Potter, large multimedia franchises as direct competition for consumer eyeballs. This tactic seems to be paying off quite well and I expect a next gen console sooner than people think to keep pushing their strategy of keeping eyes on them. Why else would they be investing in film, manga and theme parks?
Re: Takaya Imamura: F-Zero Hasn't Been Revived Because Mario Kart Is Nintendo's "Most Popular Racing Game"

Re: Japanese Charts: Final Fantasy XVI Dethrones Zelda: TOTK After Six Weeks On Top
@johnvboy if this is what the Switch can do in a week in Japan in year 6 I wonder if it will catch the PS2 in lifetime sales. The system still has some bangers to close the year and I see the system easily pulling another 10 million internationally this year if these sales are any indication of the console's overall health.
Re: Japanese Charts: Final Fantasy XVI Dethrones Zelda: TOTK After Six Weeks On Top
Re: Japanese Charts: Final Fantasy XVI Dethrones Zelda: TOTK After Six Weeks On Top
Re: Activision CEO Made 'A Bad Judgement' In Not Supporting The Nintendo Switch More
@PessitheMystic to be fair the only people who bought a Wii U were Nintendo hardcore loyalists or those who were fans of then niche franchises like Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Fatal Frame or the odd Atlus game.
Re: Random: Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Knows Who He'd Add To Smash Bros., If Nintendo Was To Ask
@Serpenterror would Microsoft owning Crash make it easier for him to get in??? Granted this is probably a joke, but I cannot picture a better bird flip Microsoft could give Sony.
Re: Random: Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Knows Who He'd Add To Smash Bros., If Nintendo Was To Ask
@GrailUK I thought Sony said Nintendo fans don't like violent hardcore games... Jokes on them because I wanna see Samus blow Johnny Cage's head off with her morphball!! Imagine that gorey kill!!!
Re: Random: Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Knows Who He'd Add To Smash Bros., If Nintendo Was To Ask
@GrailUK that be easy (though I'm not sure if this would count as Nintendo characters) Bayonetta would transfer super easy to MK. She'd make too much sense and imagine her fatality 0-0
Re: Random: Mortal Kombat Co-Creator Knows Who He'd Add To Smash Bros., If Nintendo Was To Ask
Re: Pikmin 4 Will Let You Erase Your Mistakes With A Handy New Rewind Mechanic
Re: Pikmin 4 Will Let You Erase Your Mistakes With A Handy New Rewind Mechanic
@-wc- depends on the code of the game. Some games it be easy to implement the option to disable this kind of features, others not so much. It really is up to how Nintendo's programers implemented the option. I hope it's toggle-able, but I won't get too upset if I have to resist the urge to do a do-over.
Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands On" Impressions Of Pikmin 4
@Eggolor I get the frustration, but try to ignore those comments. Getting fired up tends to just lead to non-sense. Better to just stay cool. I adore Pikmin, but it also is a very niche franchise so an easy target of those who don't like the favoritism it gets (It's Miyamoto's baby).
Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands On" Impressions Of Pikmin 4
Re: Round Up: Here Are The First "Hands On" Impressions Of Pikmin 4
Re: Xbox Boss Says Call Of Duty Would Run "Relatively Great Compared To Other Switch Games"
Re: Nintendo Infographic Showcases The Games Featured In June's Direct
@Wheatly it seems like the same cycle from Gen 8. Main game -> DLC -> Remake/Spin-off -> next gen game. Since the DlC is replacing the "3rd game" odds are the next generation would be rather early in the next consoles lifespan. Or we could end up with a remake (like the Let's Go games were a remake of Yellow version). I'd personally think timing Gen X with the holiday of year 1 or 2 of the next console would massively boost sales. It all depends on when this new console launches.
