@JaxonH It would definitely be awesome to just hold the case up to the Gamepad instead of entering a code, but I think people would still abuse it. It wouldn't be as widespread as it would with disc-based registration, but there are definitely some people out there who would buy games new only to use the NFC chip without opening the games, and then return them. That would give Club Nintendo fake information, and give someone else who buys the game afterwards a useless chip. If there was a way to lock the chip until you open the game, it would be a great upgrade to Club Nintendo. QR codes you could scan with the Gamepad/3DS camera would work too, though they'd be less awesome.
@rjejr
I agree. Nintendo should have put a Club Nintendo App of some sort on the Wii U (and maybe 3DS) a long time ago. It doesn't make sense at this point for it to be so separate. They should also work on making digital games on Club Nintendo available to pretty much everyone, regardless of country. I mean, the eshop's already available everywhere, right?
The reason they don't just automatically match discs with Club Nintendo, though, is because people would abuse the system. Even aside from people buying used, people could borrow their friends' discs just to get points on Club Nintendo, which kind of defeats the purpose. Also, you have to do a registration survey whether you buy the game digitally or at retail. The digital games just don't need you to enter a code first.
And the Wii U already has it's own version of Skype. I don't think many people use it.
@Quorthon It's only optional if you don't want to play online, which is a huge part of many games, and a free feature on PC and Wii U.
Your logic concerning Club Nintendo is very backwards. Nobody buys $150 worth of games to get a $5 game. They buy games, and then get something from Club Nintendo free. Since you don't pay to get the game from Club Nintendo the game is free. PS+ is the exact opposite. You pay, and they let you play games as long as you keep paying. If you stop paying, they take them all back.
There are a couple key differences here. First, Club Nintendo is free, so if you already own what they're offering, you aren't losing anything. That's not true of PS+, with which you've already paid. And second, Club Nintendo has options. Each month they put up 8 games (plus the Gold/Platinum rewards), and you can choose to get one, or wait until you see a game you want. I think coins are good for 2-3 years, so you can wait a long time. With PS+ you get what they give you, end of story. If you already owned it, or didn't want it, it doesn't matter, because you paid Sony up front.
Your example really doesn't work. With Club Nintendo, I buy games I want, I keep them, and then I get bonus games/items that I never paid for. In your example I'm trading items of high value for items of low value. There is no trading or loss involved in Club Nintendo.
@electrolite77 Optional subscriptions can become mandatory, like PS+ did.
It might make great business sense, but it does so at the expense of customers. The larger your PS+ library gets, the more you'll feel obligated to pay $50 to keep it going for another year. Having a PS+ library for a system you don't have may make you feel obligated to get that system, even if you prefer the other. If you don't have the subscription, and therefore can't get some sales, it feels as though you're being punished for not subscribing.
It was obviously Nintendo that didn't put online play in some of their games, but that's not the real problem. Imagine if 3rd parties stopped putting online games or modes on the PS4 and Xbox One. They'd suddenly have almost as great a shortage of online games as the Wii U. As it is, most of the online games on all three systems have come from 3rd parties.
@Quorthon
It's not optional on the PS4 if you want to play online, which is a huge component of many PS4 games. You get 1-2 games per system (which are usually only playable on one system) per month. You don't get to choose the games, so the free games you paid for in advance might be games you already have or simply don't want. If you stop paying the subscription, your entire PS+ library gets locked, so they're really just rentals, too. I fully understand what PS+ is, and I don't want any of it, including payed discounts, on my Nintendo systems.
I'd also like to point out that whatever you get from Club Nintendo is 100% free. With PS+ you pay $50 a year to rent a bunch of games Sony chooses, but with Club Nintendo I get several free games (or collectables) with my usual purchases, no strings attached, and I get to choose which I want. The Deluxe promotion has also acted as a constant discount on the eshop, covering new, old, and discounted games.
And finally, any lack of online games on the Wii U stems from a lack of 3rd party support, not from Nintendo. Online players being better than you isn't Nintendo's fault either, and in no way makes Nintendo's online service worse.
I for one hope Nintendo stays far away from the PS+ model. I don't want to pay for "free" games and discounts. I'm all for an extended Deluxe promotion, though, especially if they expand and/or improve it. It would be great if they could have incentives for both retail and digital games, for instance, since many gamers (myself included) still prefer discs to downloads.
@Quorthon Yeah, but Yoshi's Island isn't really a Mario game, even if they called it Super Mario World 2. You don't even play as Mario (the same goes for Mario Land 3, actually). I did forget about the Mario Land games, but I was referring mainly to home consoles.
As much as I love Mario, I'm fine with his next game being on the next system. The Wii is the only system since the NES to get multiple Mario games, after all. Right now I'd rather see other franchises get their chance on the Wii U.
@BaffleBlend And yet Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were still the best scoring games last gen (according to GameRankings), and 3D World is currently the highest scoring current gen game on Metacritic (it's behind Rayman Legends for the Wii U on GameRankings).
I'm not surprised Nintendo would go with Sony for a Mario movie. They're probably the biggest movie company in Japan, after all. I am a bit skeptical about the movie itself, though. I just can't see Mario translating well to the big screen. As many critics have pointed out over the years, Mario games don't really have stories. That's fine for games, where gameplay is most important, but a good story is integral to a movie, even a movie meant for kids. I'll probably end up seeing the movie whether it's good or not, though.
Next year will be legendary. Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Star Fox, Yoshi, Xenoblade, Devil's Third, and Splatoon all in one year (and I'd be surprised if there weren't some surprises too), and right on the heels of Super Smash Bros. And that's just the Wii U, with Monster Hunter, Majora's Mask, and Codename STEAM coming to the 3DS (and again, I expect some surprises). 2015's going to be expensive.
If this is true, Nintendo certainly didn't waste any time. I mean, Amiibo figures haven't even been out for 3 weeks yet.
Anyway, the collector in me is annoyed that I'll probably never be able to collect every figure at a reasonable price. I'm glad I at least got the Villager.
That would be disappointing, but honestly, I'd prefer a new Fire Emblem for the Wii U over a Fire Emblem crossover. SMT4 was good (I still haven't finished it thanks to its maze-like design), but Fire Emblem Awakening was awesome.
If you format the system, Nintendo can restore your eshop account, but what would happen to your Wii Shop account? Can they even bring that back?
I think I might abstain from playing, online or offline, until Nintendo releases another update. As awesome as the game is, it's not worth risking both accounts and the Wii U itself. Good thing I have Omega Ruby to keep me busy.
If that chart's true, it's not surprising. The Xbox One had by far the best discounts this year, while the Wii U barely had any discounts at all. I don't know why the 360 would do so well though. It was barely in the ads.
Unfortunately, my copy still hasn't arrived. I bought it with SSB from Toys R Us, which I bought there for the free Amiibo. I have the Amiibo, but both games are still hundreds of miles away. On the bright side, maybe this bug will be fixed by the time I get my copy.
It's a great game, but I'm not going to spend $11 on it. Even if I didn't already own it on PC and PS3, that's just too high a price for an old game, especially one that's been on sale for a buck more than once (which is how I got it on PC and PS3). I'm glad they brought it to the Wii U, but I think it should have been $5-6 instead of $11.
It seems to be the worst Sonic in years, and that's saying something. Any interest I had is gone. Hopefully they'll make a good Sonic game next year... and change Knuckles back.
So basically, one guy ignored every fact out there and pushed the Vita, and the other guy said Sony's trying to get the casual market the Wii had, the same market many Playstation fans hated... What were these guys trying to accomplish?
Hopefully Nintendo figures out how it's going to work, and puts out an update on the 21st, required to play Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, that closes whatever hole it uses, leaving tons of people with a useless copy of Cubic Ninja. Even if the hack's creator doesn't plan on using it for piracy of 3DS games, other people will, and even if they didn't, it still allows for piracy of other games, including those available on the eshop.
I want to get one primarily in the hope that Nintendo will add Gamecube games to the VC soon. If they do, I want to be ready, and if they don't, it's still a cool adapter.
The Villager's coming free with my pre-order from Toys R Us, and I probably won't get any others anytime soon, so I guess he'll be my "main" Amiibo. I got lucky, actually, because the Villager Amiibo was sold out at Toys R Us, and they just restocked him. The others look cool, so I'll probably get at least a couple more at some point, just not this year.
@Auwwy "since all I know is that they don't want it taught in US schools (sorry, Italian here...) since it's scientifically wrong." That's where Intelligent Design comes in. Creationism shouldn't be taught in schools because it's religious. Intelligent Design is fairly all-encompassing, and can even include evolution. The reason atheists don't want ID in schools is that it allows for the possibility of religion.
As for angry atheists, it's not hard to find them online. They obviously don't represent every atheist out there, but they're the loudest. It's not unusual for them to make statements like "Creationists should be shot" or "Creationists shouldn't be allowed to have kids".
@Arcamenel When did anyone mention "white heterosexual christians"? People were talking about Jews, one of the more persecuted races on Earth, and Christians, which can be any race or gender. What's more, Christians are being persecuted in the Middle East right now, where their lives actually are in danger.
And how is your life in danger every day? Your account says you live in the US, which isn't really known for killing homosexuals.
@nessisonett As Yorumi just said, Nintendo never approved of the games. They were released without any permission from Nintendo. They even have different cartridges (black with a weird ridge on the end) because they couldn't use real NES cartridges. I think the game you were referring to is Bible Adventures.
@nessisonett Are you referring to one of the games made unofficially (without Nintendo's permission) by Wisdom Tree? I'm fairly certain Nintendo never made a religious game.
Arguing about the religious status of atheism/agnosticism is getting very off topic, so I'll try not to touch it. I will say, though, that one could argue that it was the lack of faith that allowed the Russian dictators to rule as they did. I mean, before Stalin, was there ever an atheist (he was an atheist, not an agnostic) with so much power? And has any leader had as high a death count under his leadership as Stalin? My point is, even if an atheistic leader didn't specifically declare that he was killing in the name of atheism, that doesn't mean atheism had nothing to do with the killing. The number of people who died under Stalin is at least several times the number of people killed in the name of Christianity.
@617Sqn I haven't played it, nor do I intend to, but I have looked into it. It takes the story of Isaac and Abraham, the father of the Jewish race, and warps it, using it as the premise for a game even fans often say is disgusting.
As for religion being connected to every war, you might be right to some degree, but being connected and being the cause are not the same thing. Religion didn't cause WWII, the worst war in history, for example.
Hopefully Nintendo is still blocking it. I'd prefer not to see hateful and/or racist content on the eshop.
@Auwwy People say that all the time, but the number of people killed in the name of Christianity is actually pretty low, especially when compared to the number of people killed in non-religious wars, or under non-Christian leaders.
I was excited for this game, but decided to hold off on it because of its late release. I'm kinda glad I did, too. This game should not have any trouble running on the Wii U. The fact that it suffers from frame rate problems makes me think it was a lazy port. Hopefully they release a patch to fix the problem soon. Either way, I'll probably be getting it next October.
I tend to agree with him. Nintendo, especially with the Wii U, has the most and the best exclusives. Whether you get an Xbox One or a PS4, it doesn't make much difference. They share a lot of the same features, and almost all of their biggest games are shared. There's just not much difference between them. The Wii U, on the other hand, stands out as the only truly unique system this gen. It has the Gamepad and Miiverse, of course, but it's also the only new system to have backwards compatibility and free online play. In the end, if you want the most/best exclusives, go with the Wii U, and if you want the most multiplats go with either the PS4 or Xbox One. If you want the best multiplats, go with PC.
Man, the rewards are so expensive nowadays. I just "bought" Kirby's Dream Course, leaving me with just enough to get this poster set. I've gotten almost every poster set on Club Nintendo (I skipped the Animal Crossing posters; they were expensive, they only came with two posters, and I thought they were kind of ugly). Hopefully they don't start putting up CD's as soon as I'm out of coins.
@Aviator It's very clear that this game targets Christians and Jews, and I don't think Nintendo should allow any content that insults a group based on their race, religion, etc.
@Zombie_Barioth You could argue that, but it's hard to say something's censored when it's almost universally available, as BoI is. Whether the game's on the Wii U/3DS or not, the vast majority of people have access to it. It's not censorship when you can easily get it, but not on your device of choice.
I'm not going to pretend to know what's best for other people. As I said, I prefer a friendly eshop, and want it to remain free of hateful content. That's not me telling others what to play. It's just me wanting a friendly eshop. I don't care what you play.
"I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to my death your right to say it" I agree. That's why I said I wouldn't be interested in banning material like BoI. People should have the right to expression, even if it's insulting or hateful. That right doesn't include the right to be in private stores like the eshop, though.
@Zombie_Barioth Not quite. I specifically said that the game is available to pretty much everyone with a computer, and I'm okay with that. Like most hateful material, I would personally prefer if it didn't exist (at least not as it is) but I would never try to ban it. That would be censorship. Wanting to keep a specific store from carrying insulting, hateful, and/or generally offensive material is not censorship.
Also, this isn't just because I'm personally offended by the game. I would be against any hateful game coming to the eshop, even if it had nothing to do with my beliefs. I'd prefer to keep the eshop a fairly friendly place.
@ZeroZX_Dev I'm not against discussion, but there's a difference between discussion and insult. Discussion should be respectful.
I'm against censorship, but keeping this game off the eshop wouldn't be censorship. The game would still be available to pretty much anyone with a PC less than 10 years old, after all.
"do you hope to see more titles like Binding of Isaac come to Nintendo systems?"
Not at all. I love indie games, but I don't want to see the eshop littered with insulting, even racist, games. I still agree with their policy of rejecting games with religious content. It's simply too touchy a subject.
Nintendo should do this kind of thing more often. Back in the day they gave out free stuff to members all the time. I remember getting a DK64 T-shirt and an N64 controller cover (also DK64 themed) just for being in the N64 Crew. Now that they can give out digital rewards like themes and demos, they should do that kind of stuff again.
On another note, I hope America gets similar treatment. I'd love a Halloween themed background, even if only for a week.
I haven't gotten the email yet, despite opting in and putting the address in my contacts. I'm hoping that the email will pop up randomly. When the SSB code was sent out, people got it at various times throughout the day.
I still have the eon ticket I got with the original games, for use with the e-reader. I can't wait to go back to Hoenn. Ruby was one of my favorite Pokemon games, and probably my favorite GBA game.
As UltraLaserTen said, the codes for the demo will apparently be distributed from the Pokemon website to subscribers who opt in for emails. The site recommends subscribing before October 20.
Edit: That's how to get the demo in America. I'm not sure if it applies to other regions.
I played it for the first time thanks to the Wii's VC, and since then I've enjoyed every Paper Mario after it (yes, I loved Sticker Star). I wish Nintendo would add it to the Wii U's VC, if just to give me a reason to play it again.
I have this on PC and PS3, but I'd prefer to play it on the Wii U. For $10, though, I definitely won't be getting this any time soon. Thomas Was Alone is already over 2 years old, and has been sold for $1 multiple times. The Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One versions of this game should cost no more than $5.
I definitely plan on getting the bundle. I loved the Gamecube controller, and even if I don't use it much in the new SSB, it'll be great to have another one. My real hope, though, is that the adapter is the first step in bringing Gamecube games to the Wii U VC. If there's even a slight chance of that happening, I want to be ready.

"since all I know is that they don't want it taught in US schools (sorry, Italian here...) since it's scientifically wrong."
That's where Intelligent Design comes in.
@Arcamenel
When did anyone mention "white heterosexual christians"? People were talking about Jews, one of the more persecuted races on Earth, and Christians, which can be any race or gender. What's more, Christians are being persecuted in the Middle East right now, where their lives actually are in danger.
And how is your life in danger every day? Your account says you live in the US, which isn't really known for killing homosexuals.
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
@nessisonett
As Yorumi just said, Nintendo never approved of the games. They were released without any permission from Nintendo. They even have different cartridges (black with a weird ridge on the end) because they couldn't use real NES cartridges. I think the game you were referring to is Bible Adventures.
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
@nessisonett
Are you referring to one of the games made unofficially (without Nintendo's permission) by Wisdom Tree? I'm fairly certain Nintendo never made a religious game.
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
@nessisonett
Every comment you've made on this article has been about people who are offended, not about the game...
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
@Auwwy
What was I supposed to get from that link?
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
@617Sqn
I haven't played it, nor do I intend to, but I have looked into it.
Re: Teaser Tweet Suggests Binding of Isaac on the 3DS
Hopefully Nintendo is still blocking it. I'd prefer not to see hateful and/or racist content on the eshop.
@Auwwy
People say that all the time, but the number of people killed in the name of Christianity is actually pretty low, especially when compared to the number of people killed in non-religious wars, or under non-Christian leaders.
Re: Review: Costume Quest 2 (Wii U eShop)
I was excited for this game, but decided to hold off on it because of its late release. I'm kinda glad I did, too. This game should not have any trouble running on the Wii U. The fact that it suffers from frame rate problems makes me think it was a lazy port. Hopefully they release a patch to fix the problem soon. Either way, I'll probably be getting it next October.
Re: I'll Take Zelda And Mario Over Sharing Call Of Duty With Sony And Microsoft, Says Reggie Fils-Aime
Re: Super Smash Bros. 3-Poster Set Now Available from Club Nintendo in North America
Re: Nintendo Outlines Generous eShop Publication Policies
@Aviator
It's very clear that this game targets Christians and Jews, and I don't think Nintendo should allow any content that insults a group based on their race, religion, etc.
Re: Nintendo Outlines Generous eShop Publication Policies
@Zombie_Barioth
You could argue that, but it's hard to say something's censored when it's almost universally available, as BoI is.
"I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to my death your right to say it"
I agree. That's why I said I wouldn't be interested in banning material like BoI. People should have the right to expression, even if it's insulting or hateful. That right doesn't include the right to be in private stores like the eshop, though.
Re: Nintendo Outlines Generous eShop Publication Policies
@Zombie_Barioth
Not quite.
Re: Nintendo Outlines Generous eShop Publication Policies
@ZeroZX_Dev
I'm not against discussion, but there's a difference between discussion and insult. Discussion should be respectful.
I'm against censorship, but keeping this game off the eshop wouldn't be censorship. The game would still be available to pretty much anyone with a PC less than 10 years old, after all.
Re: Nintendo Outlines Generous eShop Publication Policies
"do you hope to see more titles like Binding of Isaac come to Nintendo systems?"
Not at all. I love indie games, but I don't want to see the eshop littered with insulting, even racist, games. I still agree with their policy of rejecting games with religious content. It's simply too touchy a subject.
Re: Nintendo of Europe Distributes Free Halloween 3DS HOME Theme to Club Nintendo Members
Re: Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version US Distribution Details Revealed
I haven't gotten the email yet, despite opting in and putting the address in my contacts. I'm hoping that the email will pop up randomly. When the SSB code was sent out, people got it at various times throughout the day.
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th October (North America)
I got Guacamelee this morning and Squids Odyssey this afternoon. I'd call that a pretty good day.
When does the Master Reboot sale start?
Re: Details on New Mega Evolutions and Soar Ability Revealed for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
Re: Nintendo 64x64: Paper Mario
I played it for the first time thanks to the Wii's VC, and since then I've enjoyed every Paper Mario after it (yes, I loved Sticker Star). I wish Nintendo would add it to the Wii U's VC, if just to give me a reason to play it again.
Re: Thomas Was Alone to Make Friends With Wii U in November
I have this on PC and PS3, but I'd prefer to play it on the Wii U. For $10, though, I definitely won't be getting this any time soon. Thomas Was Alone is already over 2 years old, and has been sold for $1 multiple times. The Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One versions of this game should cost no more than $5.
Re: Limited GameCube Controller Edition of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Comes to Light
