Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

TheCold0ne

Without the aggregious performance and graphical issues, it'd be a solid 8/10. I like where it's going, but there's so few trainers out in the wild and they are almost all pushover with 1 Pokemon each.

Something more to do with the school and classes would be nice, but there doesn't appear to be any reward to the classes and it's just another tutorial. Relationships with classmates, class scoring, prizes for doing well or SOMETHING.

Re: Feature: Every Pokémon Game Narrative, Ranked From Best To Worst

TheCold0ne

Conceptually, the story from the Black/White games should have been good, but it was executed so poorly that it was painfully boring and the only generation I just couldn't get into. I beat the main story of the first game, but couldn't get invested in the post-game story. Then I tried playing the sequel and couldn't even beat the main story. The characters were all so bland (even for a Pokémon game) and their was no motivation to do anything.

Ateast with some of the other games, even with a bad/nonexistent story then I could turn my brain off and go through the motions, but B&W just forced me to deal with their tedium.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus: How To Get Every Eeveelution - Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, And Sylveon

TheCold0ne

Espeon vs Sylveon gets a little weird. If it learns BabyDoll Eyes, then you are forced to get Sylveon unless you either

A) Have enough happiness before lvl 15 (I got it at 19)
or
B) Teach Eevee enough moves after BabyDoll Eyes to allow it to be removed from it's moveset (assuming that works at all).

I just got screwed because I didn't realize Eevee had a fairy move (I didn't check prior) and just let it evolve, thinking I'd get an Espeon.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

TheCold0ne

I'm still getting it, but I do wish EXP Share could be toggled on/off as-needed (I switched it on sometimes for ORAS to train up an egg pokemon easier) and that they included something like Mega Evolutions like in ORAS as well. I can live with all of the other "changes" or "missing content".

Though I guess for the price I'd expect a little more effort behind including new stuff.

Not sure why people dislike the art, mostly because it's just the original made in 3D (chibi overworld with normal proportions during battle). I could understand wanting something closer to SWSH for the visuals overall, but I don't think it's hurt by the art direction as-is.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

TheCold0ne

Both! Because I have, what some might consider, an unhealthy addiction to owning different technologies and tinkering with them.

Also the Steam Deck is cheaper than anything else currently in the handheld gaming PC market and I want to play PS2 games on-the-go (so I will be keeping an eye on youtube reviews going forward and see what it can do).

Re: Review: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox - A Fine Action-RPG With Performance Issues On Switch

TheCold0ne

So far the performance is definitely noticable compared to VIII (I barely remember any FPS drops during that game, maybe in very specific areas). At the very least it's not unplayable (IMO, Bloodstained fits that bill). It's annoying, but has yet to interfere with combat or anything.

The strange thing that I am seeing is how fast the load times are. For how poor general performance is in most areas, I'd think load times would take a hit too, but it loads weirdly fast (loading a save, new areas, etc).

Granted, I am also not very far into the game yet, but the performance drops aren't nearing dealbreaker-status yet.

Re: Review: TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue HD - An Enjoyably Old-School Aussie Romp

TheCold0ne

I see people commenting that it's $40. Where is this? I only see it as $30 in the US eShop.

Granted, I also backed it for a discounted double-pack (one for myself, one for my wife) in the kickstarter project.

My wife was super into the Ty games back in the day since the Thylacine is her favorite animal, but I've started to get into them with the HD remasters with the hopes of a true modern sequel if these sell well enough.

Re: Review: Bravely Default II - An Excellent Old-School JRPG That's Happy To Play It Safe

TheCold0ne

So excited for this. Like it seems in your review (and from others I've spoken to), the art style can seem a little "meh" when off of the 3DS and now in higher resolution, but I feel Like I'll get used to it.

But I am hoping for the story and character quality to be on-par with the last two games. I still stand by the (my) opinion that Bravely Default an Bravely Second were the best RPG experience on the 3DS (both games together made an amazing experience). I worry this won't be the same for the Switch, but that's OK, as long as it's close.

Love me some classic RPGs (last I remember being REALLY good was Dragon Quest XI).

Re: Random: So Much For Level Scaling In Pokémon's Isle Of Armor DLC

TheCold0ne

I honestly don't see an issue with the way it is set up. Though I also wasn't aware of the supposed scaling.

It fits the level for people who beat the game and wanted to go straight into DLC. I know my final party was lvl 60-70, which is just a little too strong for the trainers in this new area, but not too badly.

It'd be really weird if the trainers here were low level to match the user's party. It just wouldn't make sense to me.
