Re: Microsoft Was Simply Exploring "Every Angle" When It Approached Nintendo About A Buyout

ThanosReXXX

@eduscxbox No offense, AGAIN, but you're still not getting it. Either my point is not coming across because of it being interpreted incorrectly, or perhaps something gets lost in translation because you're not a native speaker, but either way, if you don't really understand what I'm trying to say in regards to why people feel this way (and rightfully so) about Rare, then there's little use in continuing the conversation, so I guess I'm off to other, more constructive topics...

Re: Microsoft Was Simply Exploring "Every Angle" When It Approached Nintendo About A Buyout

ThanosReXXX

@eduscxbox No offense, but you're missing the point I was making. The people who have already left ARE what made Rare the company that it was. The new people are only Rare in name, NOT in track record or game development history. Last I read, there's only two original Rare employees still involved with the Microsoft team, meaning that well over 24 (!) people are working elsewhere. (and at least 18 or 20 of them are actually working at Playtonic)

So, for all intent and purposes, Rare IS dead.

Re: Microsoft Was Simply Exploring "Every Angle" When It Approached Nintendo About A Buyout

ThanosReXXX

@eduscxbox Most of us are talking about the original Rare team. What's left of that now, is a mere shell, so it's mostly new people having joined the team after the acquisition by Microsoft, who now make up the new, post-Nintendo Rare, and who made games like Sea of Thieves.

The largest pocket of original developers have already left Rare, and formed companies such as Playtonic, who now effectively are the biggest part of what's left of the original Rare team.

So, it's no wonder that they're not making those old IP's anymore, but it's not so much because they don't WANT to, but more because they have no connection to them or history with them, so it wouldn't be the same anyways. And Microsoft probably knows this as well, otherwise they'd simply instruct them to make new installments of these old IP's, so it's likely that they don't want them to rehash old successes again either.

Re: Can You Name All This Nintendo Hardware?

ThanosReXXX

Well, I got 14/20. Could have had 17, but I made a couple of dumb, hasty mistakes, and the other three photos were from hardware that I've either never seen or don't own (Ring-Con, Labo VR kit and Famicom 3D System glasses), so it would have been impossible for me to know.

Either way, first time in a LONG time that I dared to take one of these infernal quizzes again, and I'm satisfied and relieved with the results.

Re: Review: Turrican Flashback - An Annoyingly Incomplete Collection That's Still Worth A Look

ThanosReXXX

@nessisonett Well, they were kind of cross-generation, if you will. Earlier Amiga games did indeed look a lot like NES games, but the later ones all looked like superior versions of SNES/Megadrive games. And after that, they also brought out a final range of computers that had an even more advanced chip set that went FAR above and beyond 16 bit.

Here's an example of that:

And keep in mind: this game came out in 1998...

On a side note: while looking up those videos, I came across a Raspberry Pi Amiga project. That's about as plug and play as you can get...

Re: Review: Turrican Flashback - An Annoyingly Incomplete Collection That's Still Worth A Look

ThanosReXXX

@nessisonett I don't know how old you are, but the Amiga series of computers, or home computers, to be exact, were around during the 16 bit era, so at the same time the SNES and Megadrive/Genesis consoles were around.

In most cases, multi--platform games looked better on the Amiga, and sounded better as well, due to a better processor and graphics card, and there being more audio channels to use.

But one thing puzzles me: even though you might be a bit too young to know all that, it was also a highly popular brand in the UK, much like its predecessor, the Commodore C64 home computer. It was popular in all of Europe, actually, with MASSIVE mod and demo communities and so-called swap fairs, where game disks were exchanged. (pretty much blatant piracy: you'd take a couple of boxes of empty 3.5 diskettes with you, and you went home with a bunch of new games and/or tech or music demos).

On a side note:
If this article and or the mention of the Amiga systems has somehow piqued your interest, then there's plenty of options to get acquainted with the platform.

The best emulator out there is called UAE, which simply stands for Universal (or Ultimate) Amiga Emulator, and there's versions of that emulator for just about any platform out there. I personally only use two of them: I've got WinUAE for my PC and UAE-Wii for my modded Wii. Both work like a charm, and the emulation is 1:1.

There's literally thousands of games on offer, most freely downloadable due to them not having a publisher or existing developer anymore, and it's pretty much plug and play.

Re: Save Farty Puts The Life Of A Flatulent Chicken In Your Hands, And It's Out Today On Switch

ThanosReXXX

This game stinks...

EDIT:

On a slightly more serious side note: I'll let this one, erm... fly, until I can grab it from the eShop for about a buck or two, because it honestly isn't worth more than that, in my opinion. Fun to play with your kids perhaps, because they'll appreciate the "funny" part of it, but some of the questions will probably be way too hard for them, so it's a bit of an odd mix to say the least.

Re: Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Is Coming To Switch With DLC Included

ThanosReXXX

I'll just put this in bold, so it'll stand out a bit more:

This is the easiest recommendation that I ever had to give. Kingdoms Of Amalur may not be a definite must-have, but it definitely is a must-try for fans of the action RPG genre.

It has stylish graphics, which still hold up today, it has an intriguing, elaborate story and universe, and the gameplay and especially the combat is really solid and entertaining, that you'll find that once it grabs you, you'll easily be able to sink large chunks of your free time into it, and the hours will fly by quicker than you'd think.

The cons are that the story can be a bit too much for some people, because I wasn't kidding when I said it is VERY elaborate, and perhaps the combat can feel a bit clunky to some, depending what you're used to. Remember: this is a game that originally came out during the Xbox 360/PS3 generation, so in some areas, it does show its age.

Although having said that, those are the cons of the original, I have no idea what improvements have been made to this remaster, but honestly, it's already good, so it could only get even better in that case.

In closing, if I had to give it a rating, then I'd easily give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Re: Random: Brie Larson Doesn't Want To Be The Clown Villager From Animal Crossing

ThanosReXXX

@rjejr Yeah, I can imagine. It's the reason why I stay the hell away from the open sewage that is social media. Why would I tire myself with having to delete stuff if I can simply forego using all of these "wonderful" services altogether?

As for your comment on the local government here: yup, bang on. Collapsed like a failed souffle, or something to that extent. Bunch of morons. Our version of the IRS made some grave mistakes, spurred on by "slightly" overzealous politicians, resulting in thousands of innocent families being duped and wrongly labeled defaulters or even downright criminal.

All the people involved, which is basically the entire cabinet, had to resign. Nuff said about that, though. Wouldn't want to cross the community rules line (too much).

Re: Random: Brie Larson Doesn't Want To Be The Clown Villager From Animal Crossing

ThanosReXXX

@Kevember To be honest, I don't care either way. When viewing my initial comment with a certain mind set, I assume it could be seen as some kind of fanboy rant, or whatever you want to call it, but I'm just against useless negativity and/or comments in general, and I'm honestly dumb-founded by the blind hatred for people that we don't even really know, just because of a dumb thing that he or she once said that ruffled their feathers, and now any and all things they do are to be criticized and ridiculed, apparently for the rest of their lives.

It just all seems so pointless. I prefer constructive criticism, instead of exercises in futility...

Re: Random: Brie Larson Doesn't Want To Be The Clown Villager From Animal Crossing

ThanosReXXX

@Kevember More like "negative, repetitive comments about the same celebrity for the umpteenth time". We already KNOW that some people like to b**** and moan about this. And how quick they are to jump into the comments section to post their useless, unwanted brain farts.

The smarter, more sensible person would simply just ignore the article and not spend the time and energy into something or someone that he or she dislikes or hates.

Re: Random: Brie Larson Doesn't Want To Be The Clown Villager From Animal Crossing

ThanosReXXX

Sheesh, just for FRIGGIN' once I'd like to see an article mentioning Brie Larson WITHOUT morons making some kind of dumb@ss comment about it, but apparently, that's too much to ask in this day and age. Pfffff...

Get the f*** over yourself. There's bound to be billions of people that you don't like or care for, who may or may not share some of the same hobbies that we here all do.

Spoiler alert: they're actually human too! And apparently, some of them also like to play games in their spare time. Funnily enough, I've never seen this much backlash when Robin William's daughter or John Cena was mentioned. Also two very big Nintendo fans.

Oh, well. Another day, yet nothing new...

Re: After 13 Years, Mario Kart Wii's Rainbow Road Finally Gives Up Its "Impossible" Ultra Shortcut

ThanosReXXX

@Baker1000 That's one side of the coin. The other side is that it annoys the f*** out of people like me who, between work hours and private/family life, just don't have the time anymore to invest hours upon hours into honing their skills, and who just want to have a quick session or an enjoyable experience, instead of a frustrating one.

Not being able to avoid the blue spike shell in the older games was another massive annoyance, far as I'm concerned.

Re: Shiren The Wanderer Gets Physical Release, Pre-Orders Start January 12th

ThanosReXXX

@COVIDberry You're very welcome. It's an easy recommendation, far as I'm concerned, and even the previous game on the Wii is still available, as you may already have seen in the shop links I posted in comment #16, so if you're interested, and you still have a Wii or Wii U, you can also buy that one. The graphics are actually pretty similar as well, so you wouldn't even notice what version you'd be playing, contrary to full-on 3D games where the difference between a Wii and Switch version would obviously be VERY apparent.

Re: Shiren The Wanderer Gets Physical Release, Pre-Orders Start January 12th

ThanosReXXX

@Batty5 Well, if you still have a Wii or Wii U lying around, it's still worth getting it.

On eBay and similar sites, the game is being offered for the most ridiculous prices, because it's kind of rare, but it is also still available for reasonably normal prices, from several sources. Needless to say perhaps, but only used games, obviously. New copies of this game, if they even still exist, go for anything upwards of $200 - $300...

Either way, here you go:

And there's also a DS game in the series. Plays exactly the same:

Re: Shiren The Wanderer Gets Physical Release, Pre-Orders Start January 12th

ThanosReXXX

@COVIDberry No, I'm afraid not. But I've heard of it, though. Here's a gameplay video of the previous Shiren the Wanderer game on the Wii, which might give you a better idea than the trailer of the new game that I posted earlier:

And here's a review of the Wii game:
I added that because the gameplay in all games is pretty much the same, so from that review, you'll also pretty much know what to expect from the Switch version.

Re: Random: This Mario Kart And LEGO Mario Fusion Is A Work Of Genius

ThanosReXXX

Well, that's SERIOUSLY creative alright, but even though I definitely would want to own a set, it would only be for display purposes, because I don't have the floor space for even the simplest of tracks to be able to use this, unless I shove aside carpets, tables and closets, so at most, it would only be a one time show-off session...
